5. Oxygen‐Rich Porous Organic Polymer for Thermal Energy Storage.

Abstract

Oxygen atoms have been widely used in porous organic polymers, which has attracted much attention from researchers. Herein, porous organic polymer with high oxygen content is synthesized with oxygen‐rich monomer as construction unit and anhydrous aluminum chloride as catalyst; then phase‐change materials (PCMs) composites are prepared by self‐adsorption method. The pore properties of the oxygen‐rich porous organic polymer are characterized by nitrogen absorption and desorption method. The properties of the PCM composites are characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X‐ray diffraction, Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry. The results show that the oxygen‐rich porous organic polymer has high Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface area (465 m2 g−1) and excellent thermal stability. The PCM composites possess high encapsulation rate (50.6 wt%) and latent heat (124.7 kJ g−1). After several thermal cycles, the thermal properties of all PCM composites are almost unchanged, and no leakage phenomenon is found. It can be seen that oxygen‐rich porous polymers have potential applications in PCM adsorption and thermal energy storage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Nitrogen atoms has been widely adopted in preparation of porous organic polymers (POPs). In our study, flexible nitrogen porous organic polymers (FNPOPs) with high nitrogen content are synthesized by using acetic acid both as solvent and catalyst. The materials show moderate Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area and outstanding thermal stabilities (Td: 330°C). FNPOP‐2 is prepared into phase change material (PCM) composites by self‐adsorption method. From differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis, the PCM composites show high encapsulation ratio (55.2 wt%) and latent heat (135.7 J g−1) due to flexible structure and high nitrogen atomic content. Furthermore, the thermal energy storage properties of all PCM composites remained after several thermal cycles. Abstract

As an important engineering material, polycarbonate (PC) has been used widely. When exposed to the environment, PC will have aging process, which will reduce its performance and efficiency. This article studies the changing regularities of PCs structure and properties of ageing in western areas of China by measuring the change of intrinsic viscosity (IV), thermal decomposition temperature, glass transition temperature, and the groups within PC. The analysis of its IV, DSC, and thermo gravimetric analysis exhibited the same changing regularity, i.e., the aged PC (in Lasa, Yuli, and Jiangjin) experienced degradation and crosslinking, while degradation occurred earlier in the process of ageing, crosslinking predominated in later period. In addition, the results of UV absorption spectra and infrared absorption spectra showed the evidence of decomposition of the ester groups, resulting in the production of alcohol and phenol. Abstract

The properties and structure of Bisphenol A polycarbonate (PC) under hydrothermal aging were investigated. The results of mechanical testing indicate that there is obvious elongation at break on the curve of PC samples before hydrothermal aging and no elongation at break after aging. After aging, the bending strength and the tensile strength of PC increase. According to scanning electron microscopy photographs of fracture surfaces, after hydrothermal aging, there are many fragments linked to the fracture surface and the length of deformation at break disappears. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis shows that the glass transition temperature ( T g ) of polycarbonate increases after hydrothermal aging. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy shows hydrolytic degradation after hydrothermal aging.
