6. Unilateral Renal Atrophy Due to GREB1L Gene Mutation: a Case Report and Literature Review

Abstract

Renal agenesis and hypodysplasia (RAH) are major congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract that often cause chronic kidney disease in children. Genetic factors are closely related to the pathogenesis of RAH. As whole genome sequencing techniques advance, gene mutations have been increasingly reported to be associated with RAH, among which the association of GREB1L gene mutation with renal dysplasia has been confirmed. We reported a cases of unilateral renal atrophy due to GREB1L gene c.4688A>G heterozygous mutation, and reviewed related literature. The gene mutation of the child originated from his mother, which is a rare variation and has incomplete explicit characteristics, and is assessed to be a harmful mutation by a variety of protein hazard prediction softwares. The new mutation site of GREB1L gene found by us, may expand the gene mutation spectrum and clinical spectrum related to RAH.

8. The Effects of Childhood Trauma on College Students' Depressive Symptoms: The Mediation Role of Subjective Well-Being and the Moderation Role of Resilience.

Abstract

Background: The enduring and detrimental impact of childhood trauma on later health and well-being is now well established. However, research on the relationship between childhood trauma and depressive symptoms, along with the potential risk and protective factors, is insufficient in the context of Chinese college student population. Methods: Data on childhood trauma, depressive symptoms, resilience, and subjective well-being were collected through surveys conducted with 367 Chinese university students. The data collected in this study were analyzed using SPSS 26.0 and PROCESS 3.5. Results: The results revealed that subjective well-being mediated the relationship between childhood trauma and depressive symptoms among college students, with direct and indirect effects accounting for 59.46% and 40.54% of the total effect, respectively. The pathway process between subjective well-being and depressive symptoms was moderated by resilience, whereby an increase in resilience levels corresponded to a gradual escalation in the predictive power of subjective well-being on depressive symptoms. Conclusion: The study indicates that childhood trauma significantly and positively predicts depressive symptoms among college students, and it can also directly predict depressive symptoms through the mediating effect of subjective well-being. Elevating levels of psychological resilience and subjective well-being among college students can mitigate depression and promote psychological well-being. From the perspective of positive psychology, the present study provides a new perspective for the prevention and intervention of depressive symptoms among college students. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

A physical defect localizing method based on a quadratic propagation coefficient model is proposed in this paper, which improves the localizing accuracy of the physical defects for coaxial cable. By analyzing the principle of frequency domain reflectometry (FDR) based fault localizing approaches, the factors affecting the positioning accuracy and spatial resolution of errors are found and classified into distributed parameter conditions. The quadratic propagation coefficient model is deduced by combining the distributed parameter conditions and the S-parameters. Based on it, the Integral Transform Method is improved to enhance the spatial resolution of the localization spectrum. Moreover, the effect of sweep points on localization results and the reason for the higher resolution of the proposed method is analyzed. Experiments demonstrated that the proposed method based on the quadratic propagation coefficient model could enhance the effectiveness of physical defect localization compared with existing methods.

Abstract

In this study, methionine sulfoxide (MetO) was identified as an active metabolite that suppresses adipogenesis after screening obese individuals versus the normal population. MetO suppressed the gene and protein expression of CCAAT/enhancer binding protein (C/EBP) α, adipocyte fatty acid binding protein 4 (FABP4), and the nuclear receptor peroxisome proliferator‐activated receptor γ (PPARγ) during human preadipocyte (HPA) differentiation. Adipogenesis decreased following MetO treatment; however, the preadipocyte number, proliferation, and apoptosis were unaffected. The activity of phosphorylated extracellular signal‐related kinase (P‐ERK) of the mitogen‐activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway was significantly inhibited in HPA after MetO treatment. Furthermore, treatment of preadipocytes with the selective P‐ERK1/2 agonist Ro 67‐7476 abolished the effect of MetO against adipogenesis suggesting that MetO function is dependent on the MAPK pathway. The mechanistic insights of adipogenesis suppression by MetO presented in this study shows its potential as an antiobesity drug. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

To solve the complexity of the conventional time-domain reflectometry method for locating minor cable ageing degradation, a frequency domain-based method for locating cable ageing degradation based on propagation coefficient spectrum is proposed in this study. First, the change pattern of cable input impedance spectrum in frequency-domain reflectometry is analysed to reveal the relationship between input impedance spectrum and propagation coefficient, and thus finds out the working mechanism of ageing degradation on propagation coefficient spectrum. Then, in the experiment, a vector network analyser is used to measure propagation coefficient spectrum and the inverse discrete Fourier transform is applied to locate cable ageing degradation. Finally, kurtosis analysis is performed on locating curves of different bandwidth and the upper limit of frequency of the testing signal is decided. Within a certain limit, the method proposed in this study can locate degradation with higher accuracy and resolution than several time/frequency-domain based methods currently adopted.

Abstract

With rapid development of computer performance and distributed technology, P2P-based resource sharing mode plays important role in Internet. P2P network users continued to increase so the high dynamic characteristics of the system determine that it is difficult to obtain the load of other nodes. Therefore, a dynamic load balance strategy based on hypergraph is proposed in this article. The scheme develops from the idea of hypergraph theory in multilevel partitioning. It adopts optimized multilevel partitioning algorithms to partition P2P network into several small areas, and assigns each area a supernode for the management and load transferring of the nodes in this area. In the case of global scheduling is difficult to be achieved, the priority of a number of small range of load balancing can be ensured first. By the node load balance in each small area the whole network can achieve relative load balance. The experiments indicate that the load distribution of network nodes in our scheme is obviously compacter. It effectively solves the unbalanced problems in P2P network, which also improve the scalability and bandwidth utilization of system.
