Malikussaleh University (Unimal) is one of the four universities selected to get a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) related to the Advanced Knowledge and Skills for Sustainable Growth in Indonesia (AKSI) project. In the construction process, such as installation activities and building infrastructure from equipment, it can trigger unexpected noise, so it can have an impact on people's health and comfort. This research was conducted in five new building construction locations on the Bukit Indah campus of Malikussaleh University. The purpose of this study is to see the perception and attitude of the community around the construction project activities. The research method used was the distribution of questionnaires and using the Likert scale to measure the attitudes, opinions, and perceptions of the research respondents. The results of the questionnaire will be processed using SPSS software. The results showed that the overall average value of the respondents' perception of noise was 2.35. This figure shows that the current place of work/study/living does not feel noisy due to ongoing construction work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Kappaphycus striatus, a member of the Rhodophyta class, is extensively farmed by the coastal residents of Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara. The objective of this study was to examine the development and productivity of seaweed by the application of liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) using both floating net cages and the longline method. The data analysis was conducted via a factorial full random analysis approach. The findings indicated that the mean values of absolute growth, relative growth, daily growth rate, and production associated with the floating net cage method were 11.91± 0.80g/day, 0.032± 0.002g/g/day, 3.14± 0.17%/day, and 16.19± 1.08gdw/m, respectively. Regarding the longline approach, the values obtained were 9.48± 2.09g/day, 0.027± 0.004g/g/day, 2.65± 0.43%/day, and 12.89± 2.84gdw/m, respectively. The growth and output of seaweed can be influenced indirectly by the quality of water. The statistical analysis revealed a significant difference (P< 0.01) in the effect of seaweed cultivation when comparing the cultivation method with the LOF treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Renewable energy has the potential to power the global economy and effective business models will significantly aid this goal, being among the most critical factors in spurring expansion in the energy industry. This paper reviews articles that discuss business models in the renewable energy sector. Longterm economic, social, and ecological stability is concerned. Previous studies have neglected the environmental sustainability of renewable energy business models, focusing on their technical, social, and economic aspects, primarily for energy access. The business models for solar home and pico systems relied heavily on lowering costs through creative payment plans for customers to be commercially viable. The demand for mini-grids requires end users to launch businesses that can leverage electrification initiatives to be commercially viable. The success of a mini-grid depends on the average consumption and revenue per user. Affordability, unmet energy needs, low electricity demand, lack of financing, unfamiliar business models, and immature markets have impeded energy access in Indonesia. Our analysis revealed that future studies in this field must include environmental sustainability to provide a complete picture for decision-makers. Rivers are important for human survival providing raw water for the community's clean water needs. Rivers also provide sand, gravel, and rocks commonly used for construction. However, improper exploitation of the river without considering environmental sustainability may cause future damage to it. The damage is usually caused by mining activities violating environmental regulations. The main point of this study is to evaluate the changes in the riverbank and riverbed of Krueng Montala River, Aceh, Indonesia, due to the mining activity around that place. The method used to analyze the changes was measuring the river's topographical contours at the end of mining activities and comparing the results with the initial licensing data based on the Mining License Number 540/DPMPTSP/414/IUP-OP/2020. Some of the equipment used in evaluating the condition of the river includes a Nikon Total Station, standard measuring tanks, Garmin 62Csx, and GPS. The measured data was also compared to the Technical Recommendation Number SA.02.03/BWS1/1542 from the River Basin Office of Sumatera 1. Based on the technical recommendation, the sufficient excavation volume is 10,201.44 m3. The field data for lost and excavated materials at the research location was 40,861.4 m3, and the total riverbank material loss at the study location was 7,566.33 m3. The impact of mining activities on chemical parameters in the Krueng Montala River is still within the standard limits permitted by the government, such as TDS, TSS, COD, and BOD parameters. Pollution continues to experience a rapid increase so cities in the world have required the use of renewable energy. One of the keys that can prevent climate change with a sustainable system is renewable energy. Renewable energy production, especially for hybrid systems from biomass and wind, is the objective of the analysis in this work. The potential of feedstock for different biofuels such as bio-diesel, bio-ethanol, bio-methane, bio-hydrogen, and biomass is also discussed in this paper. The sustainability of the energy system for the long term is the main focus of work in this investigation. The configuration of the hybrid system between biomass energy and wind energy as well as some problems from various design factors are also presented. Based on the findings, this alternative energy utilization through biomass-based hybrids can save costs and improve environmental conditions, especially for the electrification of off-grid rural areas. This paper will provide important information to policymakers, academics, and investors, especially in carrying out the development and factors related to the utilization of wind-biomass-based hybrid energy systems. This study aims to evaluate the utilization of residual charcoal from the pyrolysis of oil palm shells as activated carbon for the adsorption of cadmium metal ions in a semi-continuous process. The charcoal was crushed with a ball mill to a size of 80-100 mesh and its activation was carried out chemically using 0.1 N NaOH. Cadmium metal ions were adsorbed in a semi-continuous operation using a cylindrical packed bed column, with variations in the inlet feed concentration, pH, column inside diameter, bed height, and flow rate. The initial concentration of cadmium before and after the adsorption was tested on an atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The adsorption isotherms were evaluated using the Langmuir, Freundlich, and Dubinin-Radushkevich adsorption isotherm models. The results showed that the best adsorption capacity was obtained at an initial concentration of 120 mg/L, pH 5, inside diameter of 26 mm, bed height of 50 cm, and flow rate of 10 ml/min. Contaminants from microplastics in the soil can pose a huge and potential risk to global ecological systems. Microplastic contaminants have become an issue since the source and potential risks have gained a point of great concern. This problem is due to the lack of a comprehensive and systematic analysis system for microplastics. Thus, a comprehensive review of microplastic knowledge is carried out to detect its potential risks, occurrences, sources, and characteristics. The study results show that microplastics have been found everywhere, as shown in the global matrix. However, with the advancement of increasingly sophisticated technology, the microplastics found in the soil can be reduced. The difficulties of analytical systems inherent in particles in even complex matrices can be overcome with technology. Research on the distribution and emergence of microplastics is still very slow in several countries, including Indonesia, the United States, and Africa. The composition and characteristics of microplastics in soil and the environment shows their consistency still indicates a change in source. Microplastics in the soil have extensive and diverse sources, leading to high accumulation. This study also discusses the potential risks and effects of microplastics on soil ecosystems. The interaction and combination of contaminants from adsorbed microplastics can lead to soil fertility and migration systems in the food chain. The impact of microplastics on soil depends on chemical components, natural factors, and morphology. Thus, regional quantification and estimation of emissions from microplastics have a huge gap. Renewable energy is a global energy system that is very important in nature and humans' harmonious and conducive development. Considerable attention from the government towards renewable energy is due to the increasing energy demand. The impact of the current energy shortage has also resulted in damage to the environment. The current legal framework for accelerating the development of renewable energy has made a considerable contribution but is still not in favor of investors. Thus, the integration of renewable energy into the national energy system is still far from being expected, so the cooperation between the government and industrial development must be further enhanced. The specific aim of this work is to adopt various practices and policies towards the development of renewable energy from several developing countries. A critical review of this work will discuss policies and legislation on renewable energy policies especially under-operation, fragmentation, and obsolescence. Policies in favor of renewable energy developers are also presented in this paper. This paper as a whole investigates various renewable energy development policies from developing countries to be adopted in ensuring the availability of energy security in the future. Investigation of combustion temperature through experiments with a wide range of fuels, both solid and liquid, is continuously being conducted by scientists around the world, while the measurement of heat transfer rate can be analyzed when the combustion process occurs. Previous research has generally been conducted using liquefied gas, fossil fuels, and alcohol additives. Specifically, the research in this work investigated the convection heat rate and combustion temperature through the modification of the perforated plate. The experiment was conducted in the fluidized-bed combustor (FBC) fuel chamber using solid waste fuel of oil palm biomass. Measurements were performed at four different points using the HotTemp HT-306 Digital Thermometer. The results of the experiment showed that the convection heat rate in measurement one (M-I) reached 8.258 W/m2 for palm kernel shell (PKS) fuel. Meanwhile, in measurement two (M-II), the convection rate of 7.392 W/m2 was produced by oil palm midrib (OPM) fuel. The highest combustion temperature was recorded with OPM fuel (884°C) at M-I. However, the combustion temperature of the PKS combustion process is higher at 896°C but shows a less good trend than OPM. Overall, the measurement results of the three types of fuel used to modify the perforated plate applied in the FBC fuel chamber are excellent. This research aimed to evaluate the use of palm kernel shells for activated carbon to adsorb lead (Pb) ions. The pyrolysis was performed on oil palm kernel shells at a temperature of 380 °C to obtain charcoal which was reduced using a ball mill. The charcoal was then chemically activated with liquid smoke. Before and after activation, the sample of charcoal was assessed with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The activated carbon was then used to adsorb Pb (II) ions in concentrations of 30, 60, 90, 120, and 150 mg/L. The adsorption process was performed in a batch reactor with contact times of 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, and 180 minutes at an agitation speed of 150 rpm. The initial concentration of Pb (II) ions and concentration after adsorption were determined with an atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS). Research has shown that initial concentrations and contact times affect the efficiency of Pb (II) removal. The highest adsorption efficiency (> 90%) was obtained at a contact time of 150 minutes and an initial concentration of 60 mg/L. Pb adsorption onto the activated carbon of palm kernel shells demonstrated best fit with both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models.
