Prevention of cyber attacks on the critical network resources has become an important issue as the traditional Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) are no longer effective due to the high volume of network traffic and the deceptive patterns of network usage employed by the attackers. Lack of sufficient amount of labeled observations for the training of IDSs makes the semi-supervised IDSs a preferred choice. We propose a semi-supervised IDS by extending a data analysis technique known as Logical Analysis of Data, or LAD in short, which was proposed as a supervised learning approach. LAD uses partially defined Boolean functions (pdBf) and their extensions to find the positive and the negative patterns from the past observations for classification of future observations. We extend the LAD to make it semi-supervised to design an IDS. The proposed SSIDS consists of two phases: offline and online. The offline phase builds the classifier by identifying the behavior patterns of normal and abnormal network usage. Later, these patterns are transformed into rules for classification and the rules are used during the online phase for the detection of abnormal network behaviors. The performance of the proposed SSIDS is far better than the existing semi-supervised IDSs and comparable with the supervised IDSs as evident from the experimental results.

In frustrated spinel antiferromagnets, dilution with non-magnetic ions can be a powerful strategy for probing unconventional spin states or uncovering interesting phenomena. Here, we present X-ray, neutron scattering and thermodynamic studies of the effects of magnetic dilution of the tetragonally-distorted A-site spinel antiferromagnet, CuRh$_2$O$_4$, with non-magnetic Zn$^{2+}$ ions. Our data confirm the helical spin order recently identified at low-temperatures in this material, and further demonstrate a systematic suppression of the associated N\'eel temperature with increasing site dilution towards a continuous transition with critical doping of $x_{spin} \sim 0.44$. Interestingly, this critical doping is demonstrably distinct from a second structural critical point at $x_{JT} \sim 0.6$, which is consistent with the suppression of orbital order on the A-site through a classical percolative mechanism. This anomalously low value for $x_{spin}$ is confirmed via multiple measurements, and is inconsistent with predictions of classical percolation theory, suggesting that the spin transition in this material is driven by an enhancement of pre-existing spin fluctuations with weak dilution., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures

We combine density functional theory, x-ray magnetic circular dichroism, multiplet calculations, and scanning tunneling spectroscopy to assess the magnetic properties of Fe atoms adsorbed on a thin layer of MgO(100) on Ag(100). Despite the strong axial field due to the O ligand, the weak cubic field induced by the four-fold coordination to Mg atoms entirely quenches the first order orbital moment. This is in marked contrast to Co, which has an out-of-plane orbital moment of $L_z = \pm 3$ that is protected from mixing in a cubic ligand field. The spin-orbit interaction restores a large fraction of the Fe orbital moment leading a zero-field splitting of $14.0 \pm 0.3$~meV, the largest value reported for surface adsorbed Fe atoms., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

We study silicene on hexagonal boron nitride, using first principles calculations. Since hexagonal boron nitride is semiconducting, the interaction with silicene is weaker than for metallic substrates. It therefore is possible to open a 50 meV band gap in the silicene. We further address the effect of Mn decoration by determining the onsite Hubbard interaction parameter, which turns out to differ significantly for decoration at the top and hollow sites. Ethyl-hexyl substituted polyfluorene (PF) with its high level of molecular disorder can be described very well by one-carrier space-charge-limited conduction for a discrete set of trap levels with energy $\sim$ 0.5 eV above the valence band edge. Sweeping the bias above the trap-filling limit in the as-is polymer generates a new set of exponential traps, which is clearly seen in the density of states calculations. The trapped charges in the new set of traps have very long lifetimes and can be detrapped by photoexcitation. We discuss the role that interactions play in the non-commutative structure that arises when the relative coordinates of two interacting particles are projected onto the lowest Landau level. It is shown that the interactions in general renormalize the non-commutative parameter away from the non-interacting value $\frac{1}{B}$. The effective non-commutative parameter is in general also angular momentum dependent. An heuristic argument, based on the non-commutative coordinates, is given to find the filling fractions at incompressibilty, which are in general renormalized by the interactions, and the results are consistent with known results in the case of singular magnetic fields., Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures
