Abstract

This Report summarizes the results of the activities in 2012 and the first half of 2013 of the LHC Higgs Cross Section Working Group. The main goal of the working group was to present the state of the art of Higgs Physics at the LHC, integrating all new results that have appeared in the last few years. This report follows the first working group report Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 1. Inclusive Observables (CERN-2011-002) and the second working group report Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 2. Differential Distributions (CERN-2012-002). After the discovery of a Higgs boson at the LHC in mid-2012 this report focuses on refined prediction of Standard Model (SM) Higgs phenomenology around the experimentally observed value of 125-126 GeV, refined predictions for heavy SM-like Higgs bosons as well as predictions in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model and first steps to go beyond these models. The other main focus is on the extraction of the characteristics and properties of the newly discovered particle such as couplings to SM particles, spin and CP-quantum numbers etc., Comment: 404 pages, 139 figures, 162 tables. Abstract

This paper reports design, construction and calibration of X-band noise source using Neon gas fluorescent argon gas discharge tube. Neon fluorescent gas discharge tube is mounted axially with 15° angle bored into E-plane of WG-16 X-band rectangular wave-guide. Gas discharge tube excited with trigger and regulated DC power supply of 700/20mA produces steady gas discharge plasma to generate excess noise in microwave X-band (8.2 GHz To 12.4 GHz) region. By measuring generated noise power using comparison method, ENR is calculated. Calibrated gas discharge noise head using Neon gas Fluorescent tube could be used as noise standard for various noise related measurements in X-band microwave electronic circuits. Abstract

International audience; Emphasis on effect of oxygen on structural and ferroelectric properties of lead zirconia titanate thin film is reported. The thin film is prepared using RF sputtering and annealed in air atmosphere to introduce oxygen vacancies. The photoelectron spectroscopy data reveal lead rich film, which decreases with annealing temperature, while oxygen content decreases from 59.32–55.82% after annealing. The decrease in oxygen causes pyrochlore formation along with perovskite phase in annealed film. The polarization graph shows reduction in domain wall mobility and film polarization due to oxygen vacancy. The pure perovskite phase is achieved using CFA by inserting O2 in annealing chamber.

Abstract

This paper reports experimental method developed to measure effect of noise (White Noise) on communication networks operating in 2.4GHz band using Wi-Fi (IEEE802.11.bg) and Zigbee (IEEE802.15.4) protocols. Experimental setup consists of Wi-Fi / Zigbee communication link coaxially connected and operating in 2.4GHz band. A calibrated noise source is coupled to this link using directional coupler and 2.4GHz microwave isolator. Introduced noise in this link has wideband frequency noise spectrum over complete operational range of Wi-Fi, Zigbee communication radios. This introduced noise causes change in signal to noise ratio which affects the quality of communication link and results in higher bit error rate (BER). Higher bit error rate causes decrease in data transfer rate and hence poor link quality. Observed decrease in link quality with introduction of higher amplitude of noise is noted down. Percentile decrease in link quality due to introduced noise at different operational received signal strengths indicated (RSSI) are calculated and plotted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

A central ingredient in establishing the properties of the newly discovered Higgs-like boson is to isolate its production via vector boson fusion (VBF). With the typical experimental selection cuts, the VBF sample is contaminated by a 25% fraction from Higgs + 2 jet production via gluon fusion (ggF) which has large perturbative uncertainties. We perform a detailed study of the perturbative uncertainties in the NLO predictions for pp -> H+2 jets via ggF used by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations, with the VBF selection cuts of their current H -> gamma gamma analyses. We discuss in detail the application of the so-called "ST method" for estimating fixed-order perturbative uncertainties in this case, and also consider generalizations of it. Qualitatively, our results apply equally to other decay channels with similar VBF selection cuts. Typical VBF selections include indirect restrictions or explicit vetoes on additional jet activity, primarily to reduce non-Higgs backgrounds. We find that such restrictions have to be chosen carefully and are not necessarily beneficial for the purpose of distinguishing between the VBF and ggF production modes, since a modest reduction in the relative ggF contamination can be easily overwhelmed by its quickly increasing perturbative uncertainties., 14 pages,11 figures, v2: journal version

Abstract

This Report summarizes the results of the activities in 2012 and the first half of 2013 of the LHC Higgs Cross Section Working Group. The main goal of the working group was to present the state of the art of Higgs Physics at the LHC, integrating all new results that have appeared in the last few years. This report follows the first working group report Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 1. Inclusive Observables (CERN-2011-002) and the second working group report Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 2. Differential Distributions (CERN-2012-002). After the discovery of a Higgs boson at the LHC in mid-2012 this report focuses on refined prediction of Standard Model (SM) Higgs phenomenology around the experimentally observed value of 125-126 GeV, refined predictions for heavy SM-like Higgs bosons as well as predictions in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model and first steps to go beyond these models. The other main focus is on the extraction of the characteristics and properties of the newly discovered particle such as couplings to SM particles, spin and CP-quantum numbers etc.

Abstract

Emphasis on effect of oxygen on structural and ferroelectric properties of lead zirconia titanate thin film is reported. The thin film is prepared using RF sputtering and annealed in air atmosphere to introduce oxygen vacancies. The photoelectron spectroscopy data reveal lead rich film, which decreases with annealing temperature, while oxygen content decreases from 59.32–55.82% after annealing. The decrease in oxygen causes pyrochlore formation along with perovskite phase in annealed film. The polarization graph shows reduction in domain wall mobility and film polarization due to oxygen vacancy. The pure perovskite phase is achieved using CFA by inserting O2in annealing chamber.
