Al-doped ZnO (AZO) at different doping concentrations are synthesized by the chemical bath deposition process. The X-ray diffraction results are confirmed the formation of hexagonal structure of ZnO. The doping concentration of Al in ZnO is varied the shape and size of AZO structures. These AZO structures are used for the fabrication of the heterojunction (ZnO/CuO) solar cell. The photoluminescence results are shown a smaller number of defects in AZO thin films. The potential barrier and ideality factor are obtained at 0.855 eV and 2.89 for 3 mol% doping of Al-doped thin-film solar cell diode. The interface of ZnO/CuO is analyzed by impedance spectra and Capacitance-frequency results. The maximum efficiency for device is recorded with a high fill factor at 3 mol% Al doped ZnO thin film based solar cell. This increased in the power conversion efficiency of device is originated from enhanced the optical properties, outstanding charge extraction efficiency, and suppressed the recombination of charge on the interface of CuO and AZO (3 mol%) layers, as revealed by the measurement of electrical, optical, and impedance spectroscopy.

- Abstract
A common hormonal condition that affects women during their reproductive years is polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The clinical features quoated for Garpavaayu more or less correlates with the symptoms of (PCOS) Polycystic ovary syndrome. Garpavaayu comes under the diseases of Vaatham. The human body contains three humours. In this Increased vatham obstructs Abanan and develops problem in regular menstrual cycle. The significance of taste is more focused on health and wellbeing in Siddha tradition. Taste influences how we perceive food and functions as a therapeutic tool. It is crucial in determining how different foods affect the balance of our bodies. According to Siddha science, there are five fundamental elements that make up everything in the universe. "Food itself is medicine and medicine itself is food," is the fundamental tenet of Siddha science. These fundamental components are also found in the six tastes of food materials. The taste of Inippu (sweet) can be taken to reduce vaatham. Therefore, the qualities opponent to the qualities of vaatham can be adviced. Millets can play a beneficial role in the management of PCOS (Garpavaayu). As per, Siddha literatures the taste of Inippu (sweet) millets Like Sorghum (Solam), Pearl millet (Kambu), Kodo millet (Varagu), Finger millet (Kelvaragu), Wheat (Gothumai), Little millet (Saamai) can be taken if vaatham is reduced. In this article, we'll discuss how PCOSaffected women can emphasize a healthy diet by including traditional millets in their daily diet plans. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background Chyle leak is an uncommon form of ascites occurring due to the accumulation of lipid‐rich lymph into the peritoneal cavity. Traumatic injury to the lymphatic system due to pancreaticobiliary surgery can lead to this phenomenon. Method We retrospectively evaluated the data of 159 patients of pancreticobiliary surgery from January 2012 to December 2016. Five patients (5/137, 3.6%) sustained a chylous leak following pancreaticoduodenectomy and one patient (1/22, 4.5%) sustained a chylous leak following Roux‐en‐Y hepaticojejunostomy for postcholecystectomy biliary stricture. Results Average daily output was 441 mL (range: 150–800 mL/day), and total duration of output was 16.5 days (range: 4–35 days). Mean hospital stay increased to 19.1 days (range: 10–40 days). All the patients were successfully managed conservatively with a combination of customized enteral feeds, supplemental parenteral nutrition, and octreotide. One patient required additional percutaneous drainage. Conclusion Chyle leak can be successfully treated with conservative management but at the cost of increased hospital stay.

Ethanolic extract aerial portions of Coriandrum sativum (EECS) were tested for their anxiolytic eff ects on the cold-resistant stress test after seven days of treatment and their cognitive boosting eff ects after eight days of therapy (EECS). Total phenolic content and fl avonoid compound levels were calculated. C. sativum showed anti-stress effi cacy in a cold-resistant stress animal at 200 and 400 mg/kg doses. The plasma glucose, triglyceride, cholesterol levels, as well as the weight of the adrenal glands are all aff ected by the stimulation of the HPA in stressful situations. Pre-treatment with EECS and Geriforte, which contain secondary metabolites such as fl avonoids, glycosides, triterpenoids, and phenolic compounds, signifi cantly reduced stress-induced changes in these biochemical levels in cold stress animals. Screening for acetylcholinesterase inhibition activity in-vitro using Ellman’s approach increased AChE inhibition dose-dependently in the brains of mice. The data proved that the extract’s potential to reduce pain in-vitro is what led to the observed cognitive benefi ts in-vivo. Animals given EECS at 200 and 400 mg/kg had their infl exion ratio improved as a result of the memory defi cit being reversed. The scopolamine-induced amnesia group of mice showed degeneration of vacuolated cells, pyramidal cells, pyknosis, loss of architecture and the creation of lesions in the hippocampus; however, these characteristics were restored by EECS and standard therapy. Eff ective docking scores in mcule software were observed for interactions with receptors PDB: 4K5Y (CRF-1) for adaptogenic and PDB: 1E66 (AChE) for cognition, according to in-silico research. The ethanolic extract of C. sativum has been shown to have positive and scientifi cally-supported eff ects on human health when used as a nutraceutical, with the in-vitro acetylcholinesterase Inhibition assay, anti-stress, and cognitive enhancement activities, and in-silico studies all corroborated by this study.

Natural disasters and pandemics are evolving as major global threats that are posing an enormous challenge to socio-economic and environmental wellbeing. Using a real time analysis of the impressive role played by Community Forest User Groups (CFUGs) in Nepal in responding to the 2015 earthquakes (Earthquake-15) and COVID-19, this paper explores the scopes, capacities, institutional strengths and attributes required for community-based institutions such as CFUGs to become effective in managing and responding natural or other disasters. Our findings suggest that being an autonomous and well-recognized community based institution with trusted social capital (trust, connectedness, norms and network) for collective action together with its scope and mandate to democratically manage and mobilize its physical, financial, natural and human assets, CFUGs have become the most effective institution to provide immediate support to disaster affected communities. While most of other agencies including non-governmental organizations spend a lot of time exploring avenues for immediate response to the disasters, CFUGs have immediate access and infrastructure to support millions of people in rural areas. We argue that this contribution needs to be recognized, and CFUGs can provide a valuable institutional framework for the preparedness, response and recovery from disasters and to build resilience in the future.

- Abstract
The trade in primates as pets is a global enterprise and as access to the Internet has increased, so too has the trade of live primates online. While quantifying primate trade in physical markets is relatively straightforward, limited insights have been made into trade via the Internet. Here we followed a three-pronged approach to estimate the prevalence and ease of purchasing primates online in countries with different socioeconomic characteristics. We first conducted a literature review, in which we found that Malaysia, Thailand, the USA, Ukraine, South Africa, and Russia stood out in terms of the number of primate individuals being offered for sale as pets in the online trade. Then, we assessed the perceived ease of purchasing pet primates online in 77 countries, for which we found a positive relationship with the Internet Penetration Rate, total human population and Human Development Index, but not to Gross Domestic Product per capita or corruption levels of the countries. Using these results, we then predicted the levels of online primate trade in countries for which we did not have first-hand data. From this we created a global map of potential prevalence of primate trade online. Finally, we analysed price data of the two primate taxa most consistently offered for sale, marmosets and capuchins. We found that prices increased with the ease of purchasing primates online and the Gross Domestic Product per capita. This overview provides insight into the nature and intricacies of the online primate pet trade and advocates for increased trade regulation and monitoring in both primate range and non-range countries where trade has been substantially reported. © 2023 The Authors

Patients and methods: The survey was conducted in four Italian centers through structured interviews with physicians. Information regarding the stage of disease, treatments performed, and related health care resource consumption was included in the questionnaire. Direct health care cost per patient associated with the most relevant treatments such as sorafenib, transarterial chemoembolization (TACE), and transarterial radioembolization (TARE) was evaluated. Results: Between 2013 and 2014, 285 patients with HCC were treated in the four participating centers; of these, 80 were in intermediate stage HCC (Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer Classification [BCLC] B), and 57 were in the advanced stage of the disease (BCLC C). In intermediate stage HCC, the most frequent first-line treatment was TACE (63%) followed by sorafenib (15%), radiofrequency ablation (14%), and TARE (1.3%). In the advanced stage of HCC, the most frequently used first-line therapy was sorafenib (56%), followed by best supportive care (21%), TACE (18%), and TARE (3.5%). The total costs of treatment per patient amounted to €12,214.54 with sorafenib, €13,418.49 with TACE, and €26,106.08 with TARE. Both in the intermediate and in the advanced stage of the disease, variability in treatment patterns among centers was observed. Conclusion: The present analysis raises for the first time the awareness of the overall costs incurred by the Italian National Healthcare System for different treatments used in intermediate and advanced HCC. Further investigations would be important to better understand the effective health care resource usage. Keywords: disease costs, drugs cost, transarterial embolization, sorafenib

Background/Aim: To compare the quality of life (QOL) in patients undergoing transhiatal esophagectomy (THE) with or without chemotherapy, who were admitted to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh and enrolled in the study, from July 2004 to October 2005. Patients and Methods: Thirty patients of esophageal carcinoma by purposive sampling were randomized into two groups i.e., patients undergoing THE after chemotherapy and patients undergoing THE without chemotherapy. Two QOL questionnaires, one generic i.e., EORTC-QLQ C-30 (European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer) and other esophageal cancer-specific i.e., EORTC OES-18 were utilized to assess the QOL. Result: Physical functional scales were better in patients, who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy. The role and social aspects of functional scales deteriorated after completion of treatment in both groups. This was primarily due to the effect of surgery. However, they were better from an emotional and cognitive point of value after surgery and radiotherapy. Fourteen out of 30 patients experienced vomiting and diarrhea due to radiotherapy. Conclusion: THE in esophageal carcinoma improves global health scales and majority of symptom scales in all patients. QOL improvement in general was better in patients who were administered neoadjuvant chemotherapy along with surgery.

- Abstract
Background and Aims: Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) is recommended for chronic hepatitis B (CHB) treatment, but it may induce kidney dysfunction whose management is not yet known. This Italian, multicentre, retrospective study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of switching to entecavir (ETV) patients who developed TDF-associated glomerular and/or tubular dysfunction. Methods: A total of 103 TDF-treated patients were included as follows: age 64 years, 83% male, 49% cirrhotics, 98% with undetectable HBV DNA, 47% with previous lamivudine resistance (LMV-R) and 71% previously treated with adefovir. Twenty-nine (28%) were switched to ETV because estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR MDRD ) was <60 mL/min, 37 (36%) because blood phosphate (P) levels were <2.5 mg/dL and 37 (36%) for both reasons. Kidney, liver and virological parameters were recorded every 4 months thereafter. Results: During 46 (4-115) months of ETV treatment, all patients’ renal parameters significantly improved as follows: creatinine from 1.30 to 1.10 mg/dL (P < 0.0001), eGFR MDRD from 54 to 65 mL/min (P = 0.002), P from 2.2 to 2.6 mg/dL (P < 0.0001) and maximal tubule phosphate reabsorption (TmPO4/eGFR) from 0.47 to 0.62 mmol/L (P < 0.0001). Thirteen patients (52%) improved their eGFR MDRD class, P levels were normalised in 13 (35%), and eight (22%) showed improvements in both parameters. Viral suppression was maintained in all but five patients (5%), all of whom had been LMV-R. The 5-year cumulative probability of ETV-R was 0% in LMV-naïve patients, and 11% in LMV-R patients (P = 0.018). Conclusions: Entecavir is an effective and safe rescue strategy for CHB patients who develop renal dysfunction during long-term TDF treatment.

- Abstract
Purpose: To analyse safety and efficacy of treatment based on ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir/dasabuvir plus ribavirin in the sub-group of GT1 patients older than 65 years. Methods: We collected data extracted from the ABACUS compassionate-use nationwide Italian programme, in patients with cirrhosis due to hepatitis C virus (HCV) Genotype-1 (GT1) or 4 and at high risk of decompensation. GT1-HCV-infected patients received once-daily ombitasvir/paritaprevir, with the pharmacokinetic enhancer ritonavir (25/150/100 mg) and twice-daily dasabuvir (250 mg) plus Ribavirin (RBV) (OBV/PTV/r + DSV + RBV) for 12 (GT1b) or 24 (GT1a) weeks. Endpoints were to evaluate safety and efficacy, the latter defined as HCV RNA negative 12 weeks after the end of treatment (SVR12). Results: Patients who suffered any adverse event (AE) were 74/240 (30.8%); 13/240 (5.4%) discontinued the treatment. A multivariate analysis found albumin < 3.5 g/dL (OR 2.04: 95% CI 1.0–4.2, p < 0.05) and hypertension (OR 4.6: 95% CI 2.3–9.2, p < 0.001) as variables independently associated with AE occurrence. The SVR12 was 95% (228/240). Multivariate analysis identified baseline bilirubin < 2 mg/dL (OR 4.9: 95% CI 1.17–20.71, p = 0.029) as the only variable independently associated with SVR12. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that OBV/PTV/r + DSV + RBV is safe and effective in real-life use in patients with compensated cirrhosis, HCV-GT1 infection, and age over 65.

- Abstract
Background & Aims: This study aimed to assess the real-life clinical and virological outcomes of HCV waitlisted patients for liver transplantation (LT) who received sofosbuvir/ribavirin (SOF/R) within the Italian compassionate use program. Methods: Clinical and virological data were collected in 224 patients with decompensated cirrhosis and/or hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) receiving daily SOF/R until LT or up a maximum of 48 weeks. Results: Of 100 transplanted patients, 51 were HCV-RNA negative for >4 weeks before LT (SVR12: 88%) and 49 negative for <4 weeks or still viraemic at transplant: 34 patients continued treatment after LT (bridging therapy) (SVR12: 88%), while 15 stopped treatment (SVR12: 53%). 98 patients completed SOF/R without LT (SVR12: 73%). In patients with advanced decompensated cirrhosis (basal MELD ≥15 and/or C-P ≥B8), a marked improvement of the scores occurred in about 50% of cases and almost 20% of decompensated patients without HCC reached a condition suitable for inactivation and delisting. Conclusions: These real-life data indicate that in waitlisted patients: (i) bridging antiviral therapy can be an option for patients still viraemic or negative <4 weeks at LT; and (ii) clinical improvement to a condition suitable for delisting can occur even in patients with advanced decompensated cirrhosis.

Article - Abstract

OBJECTIVE: An increased cardiovascular mortality and morbidity has been widely reported in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). In this study, a subanalysis of the AntiThrombotic Agents Atrial Fibrillation (ATA‐AF) is performed with the aim to evaluate estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) as an independent prognostic marker of cardiovascular mortality and morbidity in patients with AF. METHODS AND RESULTS: The ATA‐AF study enrolled 7148 patients with AF, in 360 Italian centers. The eGFR was calculated from data reported in patient notes or hospital database. This post‐hoc analysis included 1097 AF patients with eGFR data available and 1‐year clinical follow‐up. The endpoint was assessed as cardiovascular mortality and/or hospital admission for cardiovascular causes at follow‐up. Patients were also divided in two groups according to the eGFR (

Corporates play an important role in the development of our economy. They have an obligation towards the society. The corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives undertaken by different corporates have significantly contributed a lot to the society. Kerala is a state which is famous for its Kerala model of development. The state stands first in all human development indicators but the industrial and agriculture sector is not performing well. This backward trend of industrial sector has also affected the corporate social responsibility initiatives undertaken by both public and private corporates in Kerala. Most of the public sector corporates are loss making and in the case of corporate social responsibility private corporates are more engaged in such activities when compared with public sector. Even though the performance of Kerala in corporate social responsibility is not outstanding, there has been a significant change in it over the past few years. It was mainly after the introduction of the Companies Bill 2013, when spending on corporate social responsibility was made mandatory. The paper focuses on corporate social responsibility activities followed by selected private corporates in Kerala after the implementation of provisions under the Companies Bill 2013 and the study is based on secondary data.
