Internal squabbles and greed are threatening to impair the continued existence of professional baseball. Ever since players were given the freedom to arbitrate their salaries in an open market as free agents, their relationship with team owners have become increasingly antagonistic. Mounting concerns for money matters have led the professional players to foster stronger ties with labor unions than with their own teams. At the same time, monetary considerations, instead of actual baseball abilities, have become the standard measure of success. These developments call for a revamp of the professional baseball governing body, including the commissioner, vice-commissioner, the president of the Players Relations Committee and the presidents of the two leagues. Also, the free market system should determine the salary of each player. Most importantly, players and owners should settle their differences and make efforts for them to coexist harmoniously.
