The study examines the evolution of corporate strategy of large Spanish firms in the modern context, from 1993-2003. Findings show that the transformation has led to convergence of the companies' strategies with those of other European countries, supporting the universalistic prediction of strategies' progression towards a common model.

The factors influencing the location decisions of multinational enterprises (MNEs) through foreign direct investment and the economic development of countries are studied. Results conclude that the MNE managers give more importance to technological and infrastructure factors while deciding the location in developed countries, whereas in case of developing countries they give importance to social and cultural factors.

A study examining the evolution of strategies and organization structure based on Spanish firms is presented. In this context, the concepts of multidivisional network, holding network, and decentralization are also discussed.

This study seeks to investigate whether family firms are more likely to downsize their workforce than their non‐family counterparts. Drawing on socioemotional wealth approach, we first explore the effect of family presence on workforce downsizing. Furthermore, we examine the moderating role of R&D activity on the family presence–downsizing relationship. Our sample covers a panel of manufacturing SMEs in Spain over the 1993–2014 period. We find that family firms are less likely to downsize than non‐family firms. Our results also reveal a negative association between R&D activity and workforce downsizing. Finally, the relationship between family presence and downsizing is contingent upon R&D activity, that is, family firms engaged in R&D activities are less likely to downsize than non‐innovative family firms. This study analyzes the effect of industry R&D intensity on the degree of product diversification and examines the interaction effect of free cash flow on the previous relationship at the current time in large U.S. firms. Using the S&P 500 sample, we found support for the hypothesis that industry R&D intensity has a positive impact on the degree of product diversification. On the contrary, this study has found partial support for the hypothesis that free cash flow positively affects the previous relationship. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
