Goal The aim was to assess topics of interest and concerns among patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) who are active online. Background Social media (SM) networks are a major communication tool for patients with IBD and health care professionals. Patients and methods We performed an anonymized investigation of SM networks for IBD patients; I-a thematic analysis of patients' posts, II-an online survey advertised through Facebook and other popular SM networks throughout November 2019. Results Analyzing 2133 posts (2014 to 2019) revealed 18 topics of interest. The online survey was completed by 534 respondents [63%-Crohn's disease, 56%-female, median age-38 years (interquartile range: 28.7 to 51.0)]. Most respondents (70%) were followed in referral centers, and 45% were receiving biological therapy. Respondents reported high satisfaction with IBD care and health care provider professionalism. The top 5 topics of interest were diet, lifestyle, complementary and alternative medicine, diagnostic test interpretation, and specialist referrals and reviews. Cluster analysis demonstrated that gender, income, and education level were associated with specific interest and concerns. Conclusion Patients' activity on SM is independent of their satisfaction with formal IBD care and rather reflects an ongoing need for information and support. These needs may be addressed both in clinical settings and through online tools.

The first International Workshop of the ATM and Cancer Risk group focusing on the role of Ataxia-Telangiectasia Mutated (ATM) gene in cancer was held on December 4 and 5, 2019 at Institut Curie in Paris, France. It was motivated by the fact that germline ATM pathogenic variants have been found to be associated with different cancer types. However, due to the lack of precise age-, sex-, and site-specific risk estimates, no consensus on management guidelines for variant carriers exists, and the clinical utility of ATM variant testing is uncertain. The meeting brought together epidemiologists, geneticists, biologists and clinicians to review current knowledge and on-going challenges related to ATM and cancer risk. This report summarizes the meeting sessions content that covered the latest results in family-based and population-based studies, the importance of accurate variant classification, the effect of radiation exposures for ATM variant carriers, and the characteristics of ATM-deficient tumors. The report concludes that ATM variant carriers outside of the context of Ataxia-Telangiectasia may benefit from effective cancer risk management and therapeutic strategies and that efforts to set up large-scale studies in the international framework to achieve this goal are necessary.

We obtained thorough photometric observations of two binary near-Earth asteroids (66391) Moshup = 1999 KW4 and (88710) 2001 SL9 taken from 2000 to 2019 and derived physical and dynamical properties of the binary systems. We found that the data for 1999 KW4 are inconsistent with a constant orbital period and we obtained unique solution with a quadratic drift of the mean anomaly of the satellite of -0.65 +/- 0.16 deg/yr2 (all quoted uncertainties are 3sigma). This means that the semimajor axis of the mutual orbit of the components of this binary system increases in time with a mean rate of 1.2 +/- 0.3 cm/yr. The data for 2001 SL9 are also inconsistent with a constant orbital period and we obtained two solutions for the quadratic drift of the mean anomaly: 2.8 +/- 0.2 and 5.2 +/- 0.2 deg/yr2, implying that the semimajor axis of the mutual orbit of the components decreases in time with a mean rate of -2.8 +/- 0.2 or -5.1 +/- 0.2 cm/yr for the two solutions, respectively. The expanding orbit of 1999 KW4 may be explained by mutual tides interplaying with binary YORP (BYORP) effect (McMahon and Scheeres, 2010). However, a modeling of the BYORP drift using radar-derived shapes of the binary components predicted a much higher value of the orbital drift than the observed one. It suggests that either the radar-derived shape model of the secondary is inadequate for computing the BYORP effect, or the present theory of BYORP overestimates it. It is possible that the BYORP coefficient has instead an opposite sign than predicted; in that case, the system may be moving into an equilibrium between the BYORP and the tides. In the case of 2001 SL9, the BYORP effect is the only known physical mechanism that can cause the inward drift of its mutual orbit., 44 pages, 17 figures. Accepted for publication in Icarus journal

Background Social Media (SM) networks are a major communication tool for patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) and healthcare professionals (HCPs). In Israel there are several SM platforms, some guided by HCPs while others are patients closed members groups. The largest HCP- patients network is called ‘Camoni’ (‘like me’). We aimed to assess topics of patients’ interest by exploration through SM. Methods This study had two phases: I –a qualitative study to assess topics of patients’ interest- screening. Posts of patients with IBD on ‘Camoni’ were evaluated by thematic analysis: identifying patterned meaning, coding based on topic, and categorising major groups. II - an anonymized survey was distributed online through SM networks. The survey was based on the identified topics in the screening, asking the participants to elect and delve only on the five most relevant topics. Satisfaction was assessed by visual analogue scales (VAS) of 0–100 points. Results Screening included 2,123 posts published on Camoni between 2014–2019. The analysis revealed 18 different topics (Figure 1). The online survey was launched on November 2019 and had 329 responders: male 47.9%, age 38 years (IQR 29–51), disease duration 10 years (IQR 4–20), active disease 43%, using medications 80.9%: steroids 8.9%, anti-TNFs 31.6%, anti-integrins 9.1%, ustekinumab 4.6%, tofacitinib 2.1%. Crohn’s disease 63.4%, perianal disease 40.8%, extraintestinal manifestations 27%, history of surgery 36.4%, care in hospital outpatient clinics 67.8%. The distribution of satisfaction VAS scores was asymmetric with skewness to the right (Figure 3). Median (IQR) for general satisfaction of the treating physician - 87.5 (73–99), accessibility to HCPs - 77.5 (48.5–92), HCP professionalism 90 (75–99), degree of understanding patients’ concerns 81 (51–96), effectiveness of communication with HCPs 81 (59.7–96). The first five elected-topics of interest were: diet, lifestyle, complementary and alternative medicine, interpretation of medical results, and referral of patients to specialists and reviews (Figure 2). Most responders (85.1%) prefer to be active on an SM network that is guided by HCPs; however,, only 22% of online survey responders were active on Camoni. Conclusion Patients with IBD with a significant disease burden are highly satisfied from conventional care. However, patients are still in need for further support and information, perceived as not being addressed in the conventional setting. An operative multidisciplinary setting in routine care, incorporating dietitians, IBD-nurses and HCP’s focusing on alternative and complementary medicine is advised.

A 9-week study was conducted to evaluate the potential of processed animal protein (PAP) in comparison with soybean meal (SM) to replace fish meal (FM) in practical diets for European catfish, Silurus glanis, on growth performance, liver transaminase activities and expression of growth-related genes. Seven isonitrogenous (440 g kg-1 crude protein) and isoenergetic (16.70 MJ/kg) practical diets were formulated by replacing 0 (control), 30%, 60% and 100% FM with either SM or PAP. Each diet was randomly assigned to triplicate groups of 25 fish per cages fixed in the pond. Fish fed the diet substituted 100% FM from SM or PAP had lower (p < .05) growth performance, feed efficiency and protein retention compared to control and other groups. The decreased growth performance occurred concomitant with a decline in the expression level of liver GHR/IGF-I axis genes. The gene expression and activity of liver protein metabolism enzymes also positively correlated with growth performance. Findings of this study indicated that both SM and PAP were equally effective in replacing FM up to 60% in the practical diet of Silurus glanis. Total replacement of FM either with SM or PAP induced negative influences on growth and feed utilization.
