Abstract: We present a measurement of the parameters of the Υ(10580) resonance based on a dataset collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric B factory. We measure the total width Γtot=(20.7±1. 6±2.5)MeV, the electronic partial width Γee=(0.321±0. 017±0.029)keV and the mass M=(10579.3±0.4±1.2)MeV/c2. © 2005 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We study the decay B- → J/ΨK -π+π- using 117×106 BB̄ events collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- asymmetric-energy storage ring. We measure the branching fractions ℬ (B- → J/ΨK -π+π-) = (116±7(stat.) ±9(syst.))×10-5 and ℬ (B- → X(3872)K-) × ℬ (X(3872) → J/Ψπ+π -) = (1.28±0.41)×10-5 and find the mass of the X(3872) to be 3873.4±1.4 MeV/c2. We search for the h c narrow state in the decay B- → hcK -, hc → J/Ψπ+π- and for the decay B- → J/ΨD0π-, with D0 → K-π+. We set the 90% C.L. limits ℬ(B- → hcK-) × ℬ(h c → J/Ψπ+π-)

Abstract: We present a measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element |Vcb| based on a sample of about 53 700 B̄0 → D*+ℓ-ν̄ℓ decays observed by the BABAR detector. We obtain the branching fraction averaged over ℓ = e, μ, B(B̄0 → D*+ℓ -ν̄ℓ) = (4.90 ± 0.07(stat.) -0.35+0.36(syst.))%. We measure the differential decay rate as a function of w, the relativistic boost γ of the D*+ in the B̄0 rest frame. By extrapolating dΓ/dw to the kinematic limit w → 1, we extract the product of |V cb| and the axial form factor A1(w = 1). We combine this measurement with a lattice QCD calculation of A1(w = 1) to determine |Vcb) = (38.7 ± 0.3(stat.) ± 1.7(syst.) -1.3+1.5(theory)) × 10-3. © 2005 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present results on B → J/ψKπ decays using e+ e- annihilation data collected with the BABAR detector at the Y(4S) resonance. The detector is located at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy storage ring facility at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. Using approximately 88 × 106 BB̄ pairs, we measure the decay amplitudes for the flavor eigenmodes and observe strong-phase differences indicative of final-state interactions with a significance of 7.6 standard deviations. We use the interference between the Kπ S-wave and P-wave amplitudes in the region of the K*(892) to resolve the ambiguity in the determination of these strong phases. We then perform an ambiguity-free measurement of cos2β using the angular and time-dependent asymmetry in B → J/ψK* 0(KS0π0) decays. With sin2β fixed at its measured value and cos2β treated as an independent parameter, we find cos2β = 2.72-0.79+0.50(stat) ± 0.27(syst), determining the sign of cos2β to be positive at 86% C.L. © 2005 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We have performed a search for the rare leptonic decay B+ --> mu+ nu_mu withdata collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance by the BABAR experiment at thePEP-II storage ring. In a sample of 88.4 million BBbar pairs, we find nosignificant evidence for a signal and set an upper limit on the branchingfraction BR(B+ --> mu+ nu_mu) < 6.6 x 10^{-6} at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract: We present measurements of the branching fractions and charge asymmetries (where appropriate) of two-body B decays to η(′) K*, η(′) ρ, η(′) π0, ωπ0, and φπ0. The data were recorded with the BABAR detector at PEP-II and correspond to 89×106 BB pairs produced in e +e- annihilation through the Υ (4S) resonance. We find significant signals for two decay modes and measure the branching fractions B(B+→ηK*+)=(25.6 ±4.0±2.4) ×10-6 and B(B0→ηK*0) = (18.6±23±1.2)×10-6, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. We also find evidence with significance 3,5σ for a third decay mode and measure B(B+ →ηρ+)=(9.2±3.4±1.0)×10 -6. For other channels, we set 90% C.L. upper limits of B(B 0→ηρ0)

Abstract: We report the observation of the B meson decay B+/- -->J/psietaK+/- and evidence for the decay B0-->J/psietaK0S, using 90 x 10(6) BB; events collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II e+e- asymmetric-energy storage ring. We obtain branching fractions of B(B+/- -->J/psietaK+/-) = [10.8 +/- 2.3(stat) +/- 2.4(syst)] x 10(-5) and B(B0-->J/psietaK0S) = [8.4 +/- 2.6(stat) +/- 2.7(syst)] x 10(-5). We search for the new narrow mass state, the X(3872), recently reported by the Belle Collaboration, in the decay B+/- -->X(3872)K+/-,X(3872)-->J/psieta and determine an upper limit of B[B +/- -->X(3872)K+/- -->J/psietaK+/-] < 7.7 x 10(-6) at 90% confidence level.

Abstract: We describe a measurement of the direct CP asymmetry between inclusive b-->s gamma and b-->s gamma decays. This asymmetry is expected to be less than 0.01 in the standard model, but could be enhanced up to about 0.10 by new physics contributions. We use a sample of 89 x 10(6) BB pairs recorded with the BABAR detector at SLAC PEP-II, from which we reconstruct a set of 12 exclusive b-->s gamma final states containing one charged or neutral kaon and one to three pions. We measure an asymmetry of A(CP)(b-->s gamma)=0.025+/-0.050(stat)+/-0.015(syst), corresponding to an allowed range of -0.06s gamma)

Abstract: The inclusive B→Xcℓν branching fraction, B cℓν, the Cabibo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element, and other heavy quark parameters were determined from a simultaneous fit moments of the hadronic mass and lepton-energy distributions in semileptonic B-meson decays. Using data recorded with BABAR detector, the values were mesured as function of the lower limit on the lepton energy. The vaues for Bceν were extracted using heavy quark expansions (HQE) to the order of 1÷m b3. The stated errors were referred to the experimental, HQE and additional theoretical uncertainties.

Abstract: We report on the inclusive branching fractions of B- and of B̄0 mesons decaying to D0X, D̄0X, D+X, D-X, Ds+X, Ds-X, Λc+X, Λc-X, based on a sample of 88.9 × 106 BB̄ events recorded with the BABAR detector at the Υ (4S) resonance. Events are selected by completely reconstructing one B and searching for a reconstructed charmed particle in the rest of the event. We measure the number of charmed and of anticharmed particles per B decay and derive the total charm yield per B - decay nc- = 1.313 ± 0.037 ± 0.062-0.042+0.063 and per B̄0 decay n c0 = 1.276 ± 0.062 ± 0.058 -0.046+0.066, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third reflects the charm branching-fraction uncertainties.

Abstract: Branching fraction measurements using B-meson decays to Ks0π+π- are presented. These measurements were obtained by analyzing a data sample of 88.9 × 106 Υ(45) → BB̄ decays collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory. Using a maximum likelihood fit, the following branching fraction results were obtained: B(B0π +π-) = (43.7 ± 3.8 ± 3.4) × 10 -6, B(B0 → K*+π-) (12.9 ± 2.4 ± 1.4) × 10-6, and B(B0 → D-(→Ks0π+π -)π+) = (42.7 ± 2.1 ± 2.2) × 10-6. The CP violating charge asymmetry AK*π for the decay B0 → K*+π- was measured to be AK*π = 0.23 ± 0.18-0.06+0.09. For all these measurements the first error is statistical and the second is systematic.

Abstract: We present measurements of branching fractions in the b→ss̄s penguin-dominated decays B+→φK+ and B 0φK0 in a sample of approximately 89 million BB̄ pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B-meson factory at SLAC. We determine B(B+→φK+) = (10.0-08+09±0.5)×10-6 and B(B 0→φK0) = (8.4-13+15± 0.5)×10-6. Additionally, we measure the CP-violating charge asymmetry ACP(B±→φK±) = 0.04±0.09±0.01, with a 90% confidence-level interval of [-0.10,0.18], and set an upper limit on the CKM- and color-suppressed decay B+→φπ+, B(B+→φπ +)

Abstract: A narrow state, which we label DsJ(2458)+, with a mass 2458.0 ± 1.0 (stat) ± 1.0 (syst) MeV/c2, is observed in the inclusive Ds+ π0γ mass distribution in 91 fb-1 of e+e- annihilation data recorded by the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy e +e- storage ring. The observed width is consistent with the experimental resolution. The data favor decay through D* s(2112) + π0 rather than through D*sJ(2317) + γ. An analysis of D s+ π0 data accounting for the influence of the DsJ(2458)+ produces a D*sJ(2317) + mass of 2317.3±0.4 (stat)±0.8 (syst) MeV/c 2. © 2004 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We have observed the rare decay B0 → ρ+ ρ- in a sample of 89 million BB̄ pairs recorded with the BABAR detector. The number of observed events is 88-21+23±9 with a significance of 5.1 standard deviations with systematic uncertainties included. The branching fraction and the longitudinal polarization are measured to be β(B0 → ρ+ ρ-) = (25-6-6+7+5× 10-6 and ΓLΓ = 0.98-0.08+0.02±0. 03, respectively. © 2004 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: Using a sample of 88.8×106 BB̄ events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage rings at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, we measure the branching fractions of seven color-suppressed B-meson decays: β(B̄0→D0π0) = [2.9±0.2(stat)±0.3(syst)]× 10-4, β(B̄0→D*0π0) = [2.9±0.4(stat)±0.5(syst)] × 10-4, β(B̄0→D0η) = [2.5±0.2(stat) ±0.3(syst)]×10-4, β(B̄0→D *0η = [2.6±0.4(stat)δ0.4(syst)] ×10 -4, β(B̄0→D0ω) = [3.0±0.3(stat)±0.4(syst)]× 10-4, β(B̄0→D*0ω) = [4.2±0.7(stat)±0.9(syst)] ×10-4, and β(B̄→D0η′) = [ 1.7±0.4(stat) ±0.2(syst)]× 10-4. We set the 90% confidence-level upper limit: β(B̄0→D*0η′)

Abstract: We report a measurement of the inclusive electron energy spectrum for semileptonic decays of B mesons in a data sample of 52 million γ(45)→BB̄ decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B-meson factory at SLAC. We determine the branching fraction, first, second, and third moments of the spectrum for lower cutoffs on the electron energy between 0.6 and 1.5 GeV. We measure the partial branching fraction to be B(B→Xeν,Ee>0.6 GeV)= [10.36±0. 06(stat.)±0.23(sys.)]%. © 2004 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present a measurement of the branching fraction for the decay B -→K0*- using a sample of approximately 86×106 BB̄ pairs collected by the BABAR detector from e+e- collisions near the γ(4S) resonance. The D0 is detected through its decays to K -π+, K-π+π0, and K- π+ π- π+, and the K*- through its decay to KS0π -. We measure the branching fraction to be B(B -→D0K*-) = [6.3±0.7(stat) ±0.5(syst)]×10-4. © 2004 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We have studied the process e+e -→μ+μ-γ at a center-of-mass energy near the γ(4S) resonance for a μ+μ- invariant mass range near the J/Ψ mass and measured the cross section σ(e+e-→J/Ψ γt →μ +μ-γ). The data set, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 88.4 fb-1, was collected using the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II collider. From the measured cross section we extract the product Γ(J/Ψ→e+e-)B(J/ Ψ→μ+μ-) = 0.330±0.008±0.007 keV. Using the world averages for B(J/Ψ →μ+μ - and B(J/Ψ→e+e-), we derive the J/Ψ electronic and total widths: Γ(J/Ψ→e+e -) = 5.61 ±0.20 keV and Γ = 94.7 ± 4.4 keV. © 2004 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present the result of a search for the charmless two-body baryonic decay B0→ppmacr; in a sample of 88 million Y(4S)→BB̄ decays collected by the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory. We use Cherenkov radiation to identify protons cleanly, and determine the signal yield with a maximum-likelihood fit technique using kinematic and topological information. We find no evidence for a signal and place a 90% confidence-level upper limit of B(B0→ pp̄)

Abstract: We report a measurement of the CP-violation parameter sin 2β with B0J/ψKS0 decays in which the J/ψ decays to hadrons or to muons that do not satisfy our standard identification criteria. With a sample of 88 million BB̄ events collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory at SLAC, we reconstruct 100±17 such events, with J/ψ→π-π -π0 being the most prevalent, and measure sin2β=1.56± 0.42(stat)±0.21(syst). © 2004 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: The process e+ e- → π+ π- π0 γ has been studied at a center-of-mass energy near the Y(4S) resonance using a 89.3 fb-1 data sample collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II collider. From the measured 3π mass spectrum we have obtained the products of branching fractions for the ω and φ mesons, B(ω → e+ e-) B(ω → 3π) = (6.70 ± 0.06 ± 0.27) × 10 -5 and B(φ → e+e-)B(φ → 3π) = (4.30 ± 0.08 ± 0.21) × 10-5 and evaluated the e+ e- → π+ π- π0 cross section for the e+ e - center-of-mass energy range 1.05 to 3.00 GeV. About 900 e + e- → J/ψγ → π+ π- π0 γ events have been selected and the branching fraction B(J/ψ → π+ π- π0) = (2.18 ± 0.19)% has been measured.

Abstract: Based on an 87-fb-1 data set collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory, a search for D0- D̄0 mixing has been made using the semileptonic decay modes D*+ → π+D0, D0 → K(*)eν (+c.c.). The use of these modes allows unambiguous flavor tagging and a combined fit of the D0 decay time and D*+-D0 mass difference (ΔM) distributions. The high-statistics sample of unmixed semileptonic D0 decays is used to model the ΔM distribution and time dependence of mixed events directly from the data Neural networks are used to select events and reconstruct the D0. A result consistent with no charm mixing has been obtained, Rmix = 0.0023 ± 0.0012 ± 0.0004. This corresponds to an upper limit of Rmix < 0.0042 (90% C.L.).

Abstract: We present a measurement of the branching fraction of the decay B ±→χc0K± sample of 89×106 BB̄ pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory. The χc0 meson is reconstructed through its two-body decays toπ+ π- and K+K-. We measure B(B± → χc0K±) ×Β(χ c0→π+π-) = [1.32-027+0.28(stat)±0.26(syst)] × 10-6 and B(B ±→ χc0K±) × B(χc0 →K+K-) = [1.49 -0.34+0.36(stat) ±0.22(syst)] × 10 -6. Using the known values for the χc0 decays branching fractions, we combine these results to obtain Β(B ± →χc0K±) = (2.7±0.7)× 10-4. © 2004 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: Using events in which one of two neutral B mesons from the decay of an Y(4S) resonance is fully reconstructed, we set limits on the difference between the decay rates of the two neutral B mass eigenstates and on CP, T, and CPT violation in B0B̄0 mixing. The reconstructed decays, comprising both CP and flavor eigenstates, are obtained from 88 million Y(4S)→BB̄ decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. We determine six independent parameters governing oscillations (Δm,ΔΓ/Γ), CPT and CP violation (Re z,Im z), and CP and T violation (Im λCP,|q/p|), where λCP characterizes B0 and B̄0 decays to states of charmonium plus KS0 or KL0. The results are sgn(Re λCP)ΔΓ/ Γ=-0.008±0.037(stat.)±0.018(syst.)[-0.084,0.068], |q/p|=1.029±0.013(stat.)±0.011(syst.)[1.001,1.057], (Re λCP|λCP|)Re z=0.014±0.035(stat.) ±0.034(syst.)[-0.072,0.101], Im z=0.038±0.029(stat.)±0.025 (syst.)[-0.028,0.104]. The values inside square brackets indicate the 90% confidence-level intervals. The values of Im λCP and Δm are consistent with previous analyses and are used as cross checks. These measurements are in agreement with standard model expectations.

Abstract: We study the decays B+ → ηcK+ and B0 → ηcK0, where the ηc is reconstructed in the KS0K ±π∓ and K+K- π0 decay modes. Results are based on a sample of 86 B B̄ pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC e+e- B Factory. We measure the product of branching fractions B(B+ → ηcK+) ×B(ηc→KK̄π)= (7.40±0.50±0.70)×10-5 and B(B 0→ηcK0) ×B(ηc→KK̄π)=(6.48±0.85±0.71) ×10-5, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic, In addition, we search for B → ηcK events with ηc→2(K+K-) and ηc→ φφ and determine the ηc decay branching fraction ratios B(ηc →(K+K-)) /B(ηc→KK̄π)=(2.3±0.7±0.6) ×10-2 and B(ηc→φφ) /B(ηc→KK̄π)=(5.5±1.4±0.5) ×10-2.

Abstract: The branching fractions of the decays B0 → K*0 γ and B+ → K*+ γ are measured using a sample of 88 × 106BB̄ events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e +e- collider. We find B(B0 → K* γ) = [3.92 ± 0.20(stat) ± 0.24(syst)] × 10 -5, B(B+ → K*+ γ) = [3.87 ± 0.28(stat) ± 0.26(syst)] × 10-5. Our measurements also constrain the direct CP asymmetry to be -0.074 < A(B → K* γ) < 0.049 and the isospin asymmetry to be -0.046 < Δ0-̈ < 0.146, both at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract: We have investigated the exclusive, radiative B meson decays to K 2*(1430) in 89 × 106 BB̄ events with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring. We measure the branching fractions B(B0 → K2*(1430)0γ) = (1.22 ± 0.25 ± 0.10) × 10-5 and B(B+ → K2*(1430)+γ) = (1.45 ± 0.40 ± 0.15) × 10-5, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. In addition, we measure the CP-violating asymmetry A CP[B0 → K2*(1430) 0γ] = -0.08 ± 0.15 ± 0.01.

Abstract: We present results of searches for 5-meson decays to K+π -π+ with the BABAR detector. With a data sample of 61.6 × 106 BB̄ pairs, we measure the branching fractions and 90% confidence-level upper limits averaged over charge-conjugate states (the first error is statistical and the second is systematic): B[B+ → K*0(892)π+] = (15.5 ± 1.8 -4.0+1.5) × 10-6, B[B+ → f0(980)K+, f0 → π+π -] = (9.2 ± 1.2-2.6+2.1) × 10 -6, B[B+ → D̄0π+, D̄0 → K+π-] = (184.6 ± 3.2 ± 9.7) × 10-6, B[B+ → ρ0(770)K+] < 6.2 × 10-6 and B[B+ → K+π-π+ nonresonant] < 17 × 10-6.

Abstract: We present a search for B decays to charmless final states involving charged or neutral a0 mesons. The data sample corresponds to 89 × 106 BB̄ pairs collected with the BABAR detector operating at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. We find no significant signals and determine the following 90% C.L. upper limits: B(B0 → a0-π+) < 5.1 × 10-6, B(B0 → a0-K+) < 2.1 × 10-6, B(B- → a0-K̄0) < 3.9 × 10-6, B(B+ → a00π+) < 5.8 × 10-6, B(B+ → a00K+) < 2.5 × 10-6, and B(B0 → a00K0) < 7.8 × 10-6, where in all cases B indicates the product of branching fractions for B → a0X and a0 ηπ, where X indicates K or π.

Abstract: We report a measurement of the production ratio of charged and neutral B mesons from Υ(4S) decays based on the ratio of efficiency-corrected yields for the charmonium modes J/ψK+ and J/ψKs0 with 81.9 fb-1 of data collected with the BABAR detector on the Υ(4S) resonance at 10.580 GeV. We find a value of 1.006 ±0.036(stat)±0.031(syst) for the ratio R+/0= Γ(Υ(4S) → B+B-)/Γ(Υ(4S)→ B0B̄0). © 2004 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present a study of the decays B0→Ds(*)+D*-, using 20.8 fb-1 of e +e- annihilation data recorded with the BABAR detector. The analysis is conducted with a partial reconstniction technique, in which only the Ds(*)+ and the soft pion from the D*- decay are reconstructed. We measure the branching fractions B(B0→Ds+D*-) = (1.03±0.14±0.13±0.26)% and B(B0→D* s+D*-) = (1.97±0.15±0. 30±0.49)%, where the first error is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is the error due to the Ds+ → φπ+ branching fraction uncertainty. From the B 0→D*s+D*- angular distributions, we measure the fraction of longitudinal polarization ΓL/Γ = (51.9±5.0±2.8)%, which is consistent with theoretical predictions based on factorization. © 2003 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: Measurement of time-dependent conjugation (C) and parity (P) asymmetries and the CP-odd fraction in the decay B0→D*+D *- was discussed. It was found that this measurement of R⊥ supersedesthe BABAR results with a factor of 3 reduction in statistical uncertainty. Results also showed that B0→D*+D*- is mostly CP even.

Abstract: The neutral B meson lifetime is measured with the data collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring during the years 1999 and 2000, with a total integrated luminosity of 20.7 fb-1. The decays B0 →D*-π+ and B0→D*-p+ are selected with a partial-reconstruction technique, yielding samples of 6970 ±240 and 5520±250 signal events, respectively. With these events, the B0 lifetime is measured to be 1.533 ±0.034 (stat)±0.038 (syst) ps. This measurement serves as a test and validation of procedures required to measure the CP violation parameter sin(2β+γ) with partial reconstruction of these modes.

Abstract: We measure the B0 lifetime τB0 and the B 0-B̄0 oscillation frequency Δmd with a sample of approximately 14000 exclusively reconstructed B 0→D*-ℓ+vℓ signal events, selected from 23 million BB̄ pairs recorded at the Y(45) resonance with the BABAR detector at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The decay position of the other B is determined with the remaining tracks in the event, and its b-quark flavor at the time of decay is determined with a tagging algorithm that exploits the correlation between the flavor of the b quark and the charges of its decay products. The lifetime and oscillation frequencies are measured simultaneously with an unbinned maximum-likelihood fit that uses, for each event, the measured difference in decay times of the two B mesons (Δt), the calculated uncertainty on Δt, the signal and background probabilities, and b-quark tagging information for the other B. The results are τB0=(1.523-0.023+0.024±0.022) ps and Δmd=(0.492±0.018 ±0.013) ps-1. The statistical correlation coefficient between τB0 and Δm d is -0.22. © 2003 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We report the observation of 823±57 B0 and 970±65 B+ decays to doubly charmed final states D̄ (*)D(*)K, where D̄(*) and D(*) are fully reconstructed and K is either a K ± or a K0. We use a sample of 82.3 ±0.9 million B B̄ events collected between 1999 and 2002 with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The 22 ossible B decays to D̄(*)D(*)K are reconstructed exclusively and the corresponding branching fractions or limits are determined. The branching fractions of the B0 and of the B + to D̄(*)D(*)K are found to be Β(B0→D̄(*)D(*)K) = [4.3±0.3(stat)±0.6(syst)]%, Β(B+→D̄ (*)D(*)K) = [3.5±0.3(stat)±0. 5(syst)]%.A search for decays to orbitally excited Ds states, B→D̄(*)DsJ+(DsJ+→D(*)0K+), is also performed. No statistically significant-contributions from Ds1+(2536) →D*0K+ and DsJ+(2573) →D0K+ to the D̄(*)D (*)0K+ final state are found and we set 90% C.L. limits on their production rates. © 2003 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present measurements of branching fractions and CP-violating asymmetriesfor neutral B meson decays to two-body final states of charged pions and kaonsbased on a sample of about 88 million Y(4S)-->BB decays. From atime-independent fit we measure the charge-averaged branching fractionsB(B0-->pi+pi-) = (4.7 +/- 0.6 +/- 0.2) x 10^-6, B(B0-->K+pi-) = (17.9 +/- 0.9+/- 0.7) x 10^-6, and the direct CP-violating charge asymmetry A(Kpi) = -0.102+/- 0.050 +/- 0.016; [-0.188,-0.016], where the ranges in square bracketsindicate the 90% confidence intervals. From a time-dependent fit we measure theB0-->pi+pi- CP-violating parameters Spipi = 0.02 +/- 0.34 +/- 0.05;[-0.54,+0.58] and Cpipi = -0.30 +/- 0.25 +/- 0.04; [-0.72,+0.12].

Abstract: We present a measurement of time-dependent CP-violating asymmetries in neutral B meson decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e +e - collider at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The data sample consists of 29.7 fb -1 recorded at the γ(4S) resonance and 3.9 fb -1 off resonance. One of the neutral B mesons, which are produced in pairs at the γ(4S), is fully reconstructed in the CP decay modes J/ ψK S0, ψ(2S)K S0, χ c1K S0, J/ψK* 0 (K* 0→K S0π 0) and J/ψK L0, or in flavor-eigenstate modes involving D (*)π/p/a 1 and J/ψK* 0 (K* 0→K +π -). The flavor of the other neutral B meson is tagged at the time of its decay, mainly with the charge of identified leptons and kaons. A neural netsvork tagging algorithm is used to recover events without a clear lepton or kaon tag. The proper time elapsed between the decays is determined by measuring the distance between the decay vertices. Wrong-tag probabilities, the time-difference resolution function, and the B 0-B̄ 0 oscillation frequency Δm d are measured with a sample of about 6350 fully-reconstructed B 0 decays in hadronic flavor-eigenstate modes. A maximum-likelihood fit to this flavor eigenstate sample finds Δm d=0.516±0.016(stat)±0.010(syst) ps -1. The value of the asymmetry amplitude sin 2β is determined from a simultaneous maximum-likelihood fit to the time-difference distribution of the flavor-eigenstate sample and about 642 tagged B 0 decays in the CP-eigenstate modes. We find sin 2β=0.59 ±0.14(stat)±0. 05(syst), demonstrating that CP violation exists in the neutral B meson system. Abstract: We report branching fraction measurements for exclusive decays of charged and neutral B mesons into two-body final states containing a charmonium meson. We use a sample of 22.72±0.36 million BB̄ events collected between October 1999 and October 2000 with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage rings at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The charmonium mesons considered here are J/Ψ, Ψ(2S), and Χ c1and the light meson in the decay is either a K, K*, or π 0. © 2002 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present a measurement of time-dependent CP-violating asymmetries in neutral B meson decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e + e - collider at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The data sample consists of 29.7 fb -1 recorded at the Υ(4S) resonance and 3.9 fb -1 off resonance. One of the neutral B mesons, which are produced in pairs at the Υ(4S), is fully reconstructed in the CP decay modes J/ΨK S 0 , Ψ(2S)K S 0 , X c1 K S 0 , J/ΨK* 0 (K* 0 →K s 0 π 0 ) and J/ΨK L 0 , or in flavor-eigenstate modes involving D(*)π/ρ/a 1 and J/ΨK* 0 (K* 0 →K + π - ). The flavor of the other neutral B meson is tagged at the time of its decay, mainly with the charge of identified leptons and kaons. A neural network tagging algorithm is used to recover events without a clear lepton or kaon tag. The proper time elapsed between the decays is determined by measuring the distance between the decay vertices. Wrong-tag probabilities, the time-difference resolution function, and the B 0 -B̄ 0 oscillation frequency Δm d are measured with a sample of about 6350 fully-reconstructed B 0 decays in hadronic flavor-eigenstate modes. A maximum-likelihood fit to this flavor eigenstate sample finds Δm d =0.516±0.016(stat)±0.010(syst) ps -1 . The value of the asymmetry amplitude sin 2Β is determined from a simultaneous maximum-likelihood fit to the time-difference distribution of the flavor-eigenstate sample and about 642 tagged B 0 decays in the CP-eigenstate modes. We find sin 2Β=0.59 ±0.14(stat)±0.05(syst), demonstrating that CP violation exists in the neutral B meson system. We also determine the value of the CP violation parameter |λ|=0.93±0.09(stat)±0.03(syst), which is consistent with the expectation of |λ|=1 for no direct CP violation.

Abstract: We have studied the B±→J/ψπ± and B±→J/ψK± decays using a 20.7 fb-1 data set collected with the BABAR detector. We observe a signal of 51±10 B±→J/ψπ± events and determine the ratio B(B± →J/ψπ±)/B(B±→J/ψ K±) to be [3.91±0.78(stat)±0.19(syst)]%. The CP-violating charge asymmetries for the B±→J/ψπ± and B±→J/ψK± decays are determined to be Aπ=0.01±0.22(stat)±0.01(syst) and AK =0.003±0.030(stat)±0.004(syst).

Abstract: New measurements of Ds+ and Ds*+ meson production rates from B decays and from qq̄ continuum events near the Y(4S) resonance are presented. Using 20.8 fb-1 of data on the Y(4S) resonance and 2.6 fb-1 off-resonance, we find the inclusive branching fractions B(B→Ds+ X)=(10.93±0.19±0.58±2.73)% and B(B→Ds*+X)=(7.9±0.8±0.7 ±2.0)%, where the first error is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is due to the Ds+→φπ+ branching fraction uncertainty. The production cross sections σ(e+e- →Ds+X) × B(Ds+→φπ+)=7.55±0.20 ±0.34 pb and σ(e+e-→Ds *±X) × B(Ds+→φπ+) = 5.8±0.7±0.5 pb are measured at center-of-mass energies about 40 MeV below the Y(4S) mass. The branching fractions ΣB(B→Ds(*)+ D̄(*))=(5.07±0.14±0.30±1.27)% and ∑B(B→Ds*+D̄(*)) =(4.1±0.2±0.4±1.0)% are determined from the Ds(*)+ momentum spectra. The mass difference m(Ds+)-m(D+)=98.4±0.1 ±0.3 MeV/c2 is also measured.

Abstract: BABAR, the detector for the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric e+e- B Factory operating at the γ(4S) resonance, was designed to allow comprehensive studies of CP-violation in B-meson decays. Charged particle tracks are measured in a multi-layer silicon vertex tracker surrounded by a cylindrical wire drift chamber. Electromagnetic showers from electrons and photons are detected in an array of CsI crystals located just inside the solenoidal coil of a superconducting magnet. Muons and neutral hadrons are identified by arrays of resistive plate chambers inserted into gaps in the steel flux return of the magnet. Charged hadrons are identified by dE/dx measurements in the tracking detectors and by a ring-imaging Cherenkov detector surrounding the drift chamber. The trigger, data acquisition and data-monitoring systems, VME- and network-based, are controlled by custom-designed online software. Abstract: We measure the branching fractions of the Ψ(2S) meson to the leptonic final states e+e- and μ+μ- relative to that for Ψ(2S)→J/Ψπ_. The method uses Ψ(2S) mesons produced in the decay of B mesons at the Y(45) resonance in a data sample collected with the BABAR detector at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. Using previous measurements for the Ψ(2S) →J/Ψπ+π- branching fraction, we determine the e+e- and π+π- branching fractions to be 0.0078±0.0009±0.0008 and 0.0067±0. 0008±0.0007, respectively. © 2001 The American Physical Society.
