By carrying mobile phones, people leaves digital footprints in the mobile phone network that provides rich information about the transportation customs. To understand the behavior of urban environments this data, provided by a Hungarian mobile network operator, is analyzed. The behavior of the city parts has been analyzed using the number of mobile phone activities including calls, texting and data transfer. The proposed approach is to identify regions of a city with similar behavior in mobile phone activity. This paper demonstrates the introduced method using a public demonstration event as a case study. It is clear from the data that the demonstrators caused an increase in the mobile phone network load at the places of the demonstration, so it was possible to identify their path.

In vitro relative cytotoxicity (IC50 (IIb)/IC50 (IIIb) of (E)-3-(4′-methylbenzylidene)-4-chromanone (IIIb) towards human Molt 4/C8 and CEM T-lymphocytes showed a >50-fold increase in comparison to those of the respective tetralone derivative (IIb). On the other hand, such an increase was not observed in the analogous 4-OCH3 (IIc and IIIc) derivatives. In order to study whether thiol reactivity—as a possible basis of the mechanism of action—correlates with the observed cytotoxicities, the kinetics of the non-enzyme catalyzed reactions with reduced glutathione (GSH) and N-acetylcysteine (NAC) of IIIb and IIIc were investigated. The reactivity of the compounds and the stereochemical outcome of the reactions were evaluated using high-pressure liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS). Molecular modeling calculations were performed to rationalize the unexpectedly higher thiol reactivity of the chromanones (III) compared to the carbocyclic analog tetralones (II). The results indicate the possible role of spontaneous thiol reactivity of compounds III in their recorded biological effects.

The information about people's mobility patterns, during large social events, in a city, could play an important role in understanding the behavior of urban environments. This study is based on the characterization of records of mobile devices performed around the time and place of a large social event, in Hungary. Human mobility has been analyzed in terms of the number of mobile phone activities including calls, texting and data transfer. We use heat maps to visualize the temporo-spatial dynamics of the movement patterns within the crowd. The results obtained can be helpful in improving the understanding of human mobility related to large-scale events.

The equitable lien (“EL”) is one of a range of remedial alternatives to the constructive trust (“CT”). In Australia, the prominence of the EL has risen, as the court has increasingly characterised the CT as a remedy of last resort in causes of action where a proprietary claim is made. The foundation of this development was the recognition by the High Court, in the early 1980s, of the CT as being partly remedial in character, rather than being strictly institutional. That choice put the Australian law of equitable remedies on a potentially divergent path from English law because, in the latter jurisdiction, the court has continued to conceptualise the CT as being institutional only. The purpose of this essay is to examine the nature and role of the EL as a remedy in Australia, in the context of breach of fiduciary duty. My thesis is that it is possible to identify stable categories of circumstances in which an EL tends to be ordered by the court, but that persuasive juridical rationales for the imposition of this form of remedy have not yet been found for all of the categories.

Over the recent years, GPS navigation has been attracting a growing attention among the visually impaired. This is because assistive technologies can obviously be based on commercially available solutions, as the GPS capable hand-held devices entered the size range of the ordinary mobile phones, and are available at an ever more affordable price, now providing a real choice for a wider audience. For many, an accessible GPS navigator has even become an indispensable tool, an integral part of their every-day life. Since the most appropriate (or at least the most favored) device type for GPS navigation is the so-called PDA, whose user interface is dominated by a touch screen and usually lacks any keyboard, accessibility for the blind remains an issue. This issue has successfully been tackled by the MOST-NNG project in which, the MObile Slate Talker's blind-friendly user interface has been combined with Hungary's leading iGO navigator.

The present study was designed to provide an analysis of factors for tumor vascularisation and proliferation in 37 rectal cancer patients with concurrent and recurrent liver metastasis underwent preoperative radiotherapy, surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy with emphasis on the time of presence of hepatic spread.Immunohistochemistry was used for expression of proliferation (MIB-1) and for detection of microvessel density (MVD, expressed by CD34). Clinicopathological findings were compared with outcome with emphasis on IHC.A vascular enumeration, pN status and the time of presence of the metastases has shown prognostic role along with the factors above. Increased proliferative activity of the tumor as expressed by MIB-1 staining had no prognostic value, similarly to the localization of tumor, gender, age or grading.Higher pN status and tumor vascularisation has been linked to poor prognosis in overall survival and recurrence of liver metastases.

The widely used and highly popular Java programming language is proved to be a great tool for developing platform independent applications. Everyday users mostly encounter them when using portable devices (mobile phones, PDAs, etc). However, the ordinary Java applications are inaccessible for the blind in general. Even the most used screen readers can only be enabled to handle GUI elements of a Java application by an additional adaptation package (e.g. access bridge for Jaws). Even with this, only a portion of existing Java programs that use swing classes may be made partially accessible for the blind. The solution offered eliminates the need of any screen reader.

Human papilloma virus (HPV) infection in esophageal cancer cases has been found in 0-70%, depending on different methods and geographical variances. Complete pathological response has been found in 30% of cases after neoadjuvant chemo-radiation (CRX). The aim of this study was to discover a possible relation between HPV-infection and response.DNA was obtained from 26 esophageal cancer patients undergoing CRX and surgery. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and Southern Blot hybridization was used to detect HPV-infection (HPV-16 and -18). Clinicopathological parameters, disease-free survival and overall survival were also analyzed.Complete response (26.9%) and partial response (38.5%) after CRX was correlated significantly with better prognosis. Six patients had HPV-infection (3 from the CR- and 3 from PR-group).There was correlation between HPV-infection and response, but further analyses are necessary. Both responder-groups had a significantly better prognosis than non-responders.

The rise of Internet and web technology have transformed our society by providing access to unprecedented amount of information, supporting communication and collaboration, empowering e-business and e-commerce. Its role in advancing science is equally important. It has become possible to disseminate scientific information more effectively, access large databases, share computational resources, measurement devices, control experiments and collaborate at a global scale. The human user centered traditional world wide web technology, however, cannot provide the suitable technological platform necessary for the further development and improvement of online and remote engineering applications. New, service-oriented technologies are required, which support higher level of automation, enable seamless programmatic and interactive access to remote devices and systems, and have an adequate programming model suitable for creating large and complex distributed scientific applications. In this paper, we describe such a technology, Jini technology, and illustrate with case studies its various benefits for the remote engineering, virtual instrumentation community.

This working paper provides an ex post evaluation of the Section 502 Low-Income Home Ownership program of the Farmer's Home Administration (FmHA). Using a fully specified multivariate analysis, the evaluation specifically seeks to analyze the program's delivery system and the effect of that system on reaching the program's stated goals. That is, does the program live up to and is it consistent with its stated goals, what is the quality of program implementation, and how does implementation quality relate to mortgage performance? The authors are particularly interested in what factors had strong effects on the likelihood of default.

We report the case of a 67-year-old man who was admitted to our department with acute rectal bleeding. The patient had had previous aortoiliac surgery with the utilization of an aortobifemoral vascular prosthesis. Diagnosis of aortoenteric fistula was made between the distal suture line of the right graft leg and the sigmoid colon. This fistula had an enterocutaneous component. After exploratory laparotomy, primary resection of the sigmoid colon, exstirpation of the enterocutaneous fistula, excision of the right graft leg and extraanatomical crossover bypass were successfully performed. This study reports a rare type of aorto/ilac-enteric fistula to the left colon complicated with an entero-grafto-cutaneous component and describes an unusual and successful surgical treatment method.
