Background: Deviations between the determination of bone age (BA) according to Greulich and Pyle (G&P) and chronological age (CA) are common in Caucasians. Assessing these discrepancies in a population over time requires analysis of large samples and low intra-observer variability in BA estimation, both can be achieved with artificial intelligence-based software. The latest software-based reference curve contrasting the BA determined by G&P to the CA of Central European children dates back over two decades. Objective: To examine whether the reference curve from a historical cohort from the Netherlands (Rotterdam cohort) between BA determined by G&P and CA still applies to a current Central European cohort and derive a current reference curve. Materials and methods: This retrospective single-center study included 1,653 children and adolescents (aged 3–17 years) who had received a radiograph of the hand following trauma. The G&P BA estimated using artificial intelligence-based software was contrasted with the CA, and the deviations were compared with the Rotterdam cohort. Results: Among the participants, the mean absolute error between BA and CA was 0.92 years for girls and 0.97 years for boys. For the ages of 8 years (boys) and 11 years (girls) and upward, the mean deviation was significantly greater in the current cohort than in the Rotterdam cohort. The reference curves of both cohorts also differed significantly from each other (P < 0.001 for both boys and girls). Conclusion: The BA of the current Central European population and that of the curve from the Rotterdam cohort from over two decades ago differ. Introduction: Early focal brain injuries lead to long-term disabilities with frequent cognitive impairments, suggesting global dysfunction beyond the lesion. While plasticity of the immature brain promotes better learning, outcome variability across individuals is multifactorial. Males are more vulnerable to early injuries and neurodevelopmental disorders than females, but long-term sex differences in brain growth after an early focal lesion have not been described yet. With this MRI longitudinal morphometry study of brain development after a Neonatal Arterial Ischemic Stroke (NAIS), we searched for differences between males and females in the trajectories of ipsi- and contralesional gray matter growth in childhood and adolescence, while accounting for lesion characteristics. Methods: We relied on a longitudinal cohort (AVCnn) of patients with unilateral NAIS who underwent clinical and MRI assessments at ages 7 and 16 were compared to age-matched controls. Non-lesioned volumes of gray matter (hemispheres, lobes, regions, deep structures, cerebellum) were extracted from segmented T1 MRI images at 7 (Patients: 23 M, 16 F; Controls: 17 M, 18 F) and 16 (Patients: 18 M, 11 F; Controls: 16 M, 15 F). These volumes were analyzed using a Linear Mixed Model accounting for age, sex, and lesion characteristics. Results: Whole hemisphere volumes were reduced at both ages in patients compared to controls (gray matter volume: -16% in males, -10% in females). In ipsilesional hemisphere, cortical gray matter and thalamic volume losses (average -13%) mostly depended on lesion severity, suggesting diaschisis, with minimal effect of patient sex. In the contralesional hemisphere however, we consistently found sex differences in gray matter volumes, as only male volumes were smaller than inmale controls (average-7.5%), mostly in territoriesmirroring the contralateral lesion. Females did not significantly deviate from the typical trajectories of female controls. Similar sex differences were found in both cerebellar hemispheres. Discussion: These results suggest sex-dependent growth trajectories after an early brain lesion with a contralesional growth deficit in males only. The similarity of patterns at ages 7 and 16 suggests that puberty has little effect on these trajectories, and that most of the deviation in males occurs in early childhood, in line with the well-described perinatal vulnerability of themale brain, and with no compensation thereafter. Introduction Material and Methods Results Conclusions Childhood obesity is associated with maternal obesity, but the link to gestational weight gain (GWG) is not fully elucidated. We examined the relationship between early pregnancy maternal body mass index (BMI) and GWG on early childhood growth.Data from 30 197 mother–child pairs from Uppsala County Mother and Child Cohort were divided into 15 groups according to maternal BMI and GWG, based on World Health Organization classification and Institute of Medicine guidelines, respectively. Postnatal growth patterns were analyzed with linear mixed regression models within maternal BMI groups. Odds ratios of overweight and obesity at 4 years of age were assessed with logistic regression analyses. We treated children of mothers with normal weight and adequate GWG as the reference group, and all analyses were adjusted for potential confounders.GWG was associated with infant BMI z‐score at birth, independent of potential confounding factors. Independent of GWG, we observed an overall decrease in BMI z‐score from 18 months to 5 years in children of mothers who were underweight, while an increase in BMI z‐score was seen in children of mothers who were overweight or obese. In children of normal‐ and overweight mothers, the risk of childhood overweight and obesity was associated with excessive compared to adequate GWG (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 1.17, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.01–1.36 for normal‐weight mothers, and aOR 1.25, 95% CI 1.04–1.51 for overweight mothers, respectively). Children of mothers with obesity and excessive GWG had the highest risk of being overweight or obese at 4 years (aOR 2.88, 95% CI 2.40–3.44, and 4.38, 95% CI 3.37–5.67, respectively). Associations did not differ between children of mothers with obesity class 1 and 2–3 when comparing excessive and adequate GWG (aOR 1.33, 95% CI 0.96–1.85, and 1.12, 95% CI 0.74–1.70, respectively).Maternal GWG affects infant birth size and growth until 18 months, although maternal BMI is more crucial for childhood growth beyond 18 months. Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) is detected through a newborn screening program in Iran, enabling early detection and prompt treatment. This study addresses the longitudinal growth trajectory of Iranian children with CH and explores associated factors during the first 3 years of life. Data from 1474 children with CH in Isfahan, Iran (2002–2022), were analyzed. Weight, height, and head circumference were measured, and z-scores for age were calculated. Group-based trajectory modeling was applied to distinct growth trajectories. Factors influencing growth patterns, including gender, treatment initiation age, delivery method, parental consanguinity, history of familial hypothyroidism, and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels at 3–7 days, were investigated. Thirty-seven percent of children diagnosed with CH faced a delay in weight, while 36.6% experienced stunted height, and 25.7% showed a retardation in head circumference growth. The initiation of treatment, parental consanguinity, and family history of hypothyroidism varied among these groups. Children exhibiting an optimal growth pattern in the initial 3 years of life demonstrated lower average TSH levels. Conclusion: This research emphasizes the complexity of managing CH and stresses the importance of tailoring interventions based on individualized characteristics and the ongoing growth patterns of the children. Future research is required to understand the intricate relationships between growth patterns and various determinants and optimize the growth and developmental outcomes of children with CH. Prior research points to the promotion of parenting self-efficacy (PSE) as an important component of parenting interventions; however, few studies have tested PSE as a mediator or moderator of the effects of parenting programs on child behavior. In the present study, we examined the efficacy of the family check-up (FCU), a brief, strengths-based parenting intervention adapted for kindergarten school entry. We tested the FCU's effects on reducing growth in parent-reported child conduct problems (CP) from kindergarten to fifth grade and whether PSE functioned as a mediator or moderator of intervention effects, using a latent growth curve model and intent-to-treat approach. Participants were parents of 321 children from five elementary schools in a northwestern U.S. city. Although we did not find a main effect of the FCU in reducing growth in CP from kindergarten through fifth grade, we found a significant indirect effect of the FCU on reducing CP growth via improving PSE in second grade and that the indirect effect was moderated by baseline levels of PSE. Together, our findings suggest that the FCU is effective in promoting PSE, which is subsequently associated with reduced CP growth, particularly for parents with initially low PSE. Our findings bolster existing work on the relationship between PSE and child CP in the context of a preventive parenting intervention and emphasize the importance of PSE as an agent of change. Background: Macrocephaly is described in almost 15% of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Relationships between head growth trajectories and clinical findings in ASD children show a high degree of variability, highlighting the complex heterogeneity of the disorder. Objectives: The aim of this study was to measure differences of the early growth trajectory of head circumference (HC) in children with ASD and macrocephaly compared to ASD normocephalic children, examining clinical correlates in the two groups of patients. Methods: HC data were collected from birth to 5 years of age in a sample of children with a confirmed diagnosis of ASD. Participants were classified into two groups: ASD macrocephaly (ASD-M, Z-scores =1.88 in at least two consecutive HC measurements), and ASD non-macrocephaly (ASD-N). Based on the distribution of HC measurements (Z-scores), five age groups were identified for the longitudinal study. Developmental and behavioral characteristics of the ASD-M children compared to the ASD-N group were compared by using standardized scores. Results: 20,8% of the children sample met criteria for macrocephaly. HC values became indicative of macrocephaly in the ASD-M group at the age range from 1 to 6 months, and persisted thereafter throughout the first five years of age. ASDM children showed significantly higher developmental quotients of Griffiths III B and D subscales compared to ASD-N group. No significant differences in the severity of ASD symptoms assessed by ADOS-2 were observed between ASD-M and ASD-N groups. Conclusion: In this study HC size from birth to 5 years links to accelerated HC growth rate as early as the first 6 months of age in children with ASD and macrocephaly, preceding the onset and diagnosis of ASD. We found that in early childhood, children with ASD-M may exhibit some advantages in language and social communication and emotional skills without differences in autism severity, when compared with age-matched normocephalic ASD children. Longitudinal analyses are required to catch-up prospectively possible relationships between head size as proxy measure of brain development and neuro-developmental and behavioral features in children with ASD. Treatment of severe acute malnutrition aims at producing quick catch‐up growth in children to decrease their short‐term mortality risk. The extent to which catch‐up growth is influenced by the amount of energy provided is unclear. This study assessed whether energy provided at admission is associated with catch‐up ponderal growth among children with mid‐upper arm circumference (MUAC) < 115 mm at admission. We conducted a secondary data analysis an operational cohort in Mali. The children were treated with a simplified protocol providing 1000 kcal/day of therapeutic food until MUAC ≥ 115 mm was achieved for two consecutive weeks and 500 kcal/day thereafter until discharge with MUAC ≥ 125 mm for two consecutive weeks. Linear mixed‐effects regression models were fitted to assess the relationship between energy provided at admission (kcal/kg/day) with weight gain velocity (g/kg/day) (primary outcome), change in MUAC ‐for‐age z‐score and change in weight‐for‐age z‐score. Unadjusted models and models adjusted for sex, age, seasonality and MUAC at admission were fitted. Both models included the study site as a random effect. A 10 kcal/kg/day increase in energy provided at admission was associated with increments in all outcomes; for weight gain velocity, the mean (95% CI) increment was 0.340 [0.326, 0.354] g/kg/day and 0.466 [0.446, 0.485] g/kg/day in the unadjusted and adjusted analysis, respectively. A positive relationship exists between energy provided at admission and catch‐up ponderal growth in children with MUAC < 115 mm treated using a simplified protocol. Context Several endocrine abnormalities were reported in children with Prader–Willi syndrome (PWS), including hypothyroidism. Growth hormone (GH) treatment may impact the thyroid hormone axis by direct inhibition of T4 or TSH secretion or by increased peripheral conversion of free T4 (FT4) to T3. Objective The objective of this study is to evaluate thyroid function during GH treatment in a large group of children with PWS. Methods Serum FT4, T3, and TSH are measured in a 2-year randomized controlled GH trial (RCT) and 10-year longitudinal GH study (GH treatment with 1.0 mg/m²/day [∼0.035 mg/kg/day]). Results Forty-nine children with PWS were included in the 2-year RCT (median [interquartile range, IQR] age: GH group 7.44 [5.47-11.80] years, control group 6.04 [4.56-7.39] years). During the first 6 months, median (IQR) FT4 standard deviation score (SDS) decreased in the GH group from −0.84 (−1.07 to −0.62) to −1.32 (−1.57 to −1.08) (P <.001) and T3 SDS increased from 0.31 (−0.01-0.63) to 0.56 (0.32-0.79) (P =.08), while in the control group, FT4 and T3 SDS remained unchanged. In our 10-year GH study, 240 children with PWS (median [IQR] age: 1.27 (0.54-4.17) years] were included. Between 2 and 10 years, median (IQR) FT4 SDS remained unchanged, being −0.87 (−0.98 to −0.77) after 2 years and −0.88 (−1.03 to −0.74) after 10 years (P =.13). TSH SDS decreased from −0.35 (−0.50 to −0.21) after 2 years to −0.68 (−0.84 to −0.53) after 10 years (P <.001). Conclusions Our findings suggest that GH treatment decreases FT4 levels, due to increased peripheral conversion of FT4 to T3 in the first months of treatment, but thereafter, FT4 and T3 normalize and remain stable during long-term GH treatment in almost all children and adolescents with PWS. Children's mental health symptoms' development can be characterized by both continuity and discontinuity. However, existing studies ignore the potential discontinuity in children's internalizing symptoms' development. Hence, the current study examines continuous and discontinuous developmental trajectories using representative data from a sample of 2792 children (49.10% females) from the Growing Up in Australia cohort assessed seven times (ages 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16). Longitudinal measurement invariance analyses revealed that internalizing symptoms were comparable over time. Linear, quadratic, and piecewise latent growth curve models were deployed to estimate the trajectory of internalizing symptoms from early childhood to late adolescence. The analyses showed that internalizing symptoms were characterized by a quadratic-quadratic piecewise growth curve comprising two distinct phases of upward concave growth. Internalizing scores reduced steadily between ages 4 and 8 years but exhibited a slight upward curvature between ages 8 and 10 years. By age 14 years, the trajectory remained relatively stable but spiked between age 14 and 16 years. The two phases of internalizing symptoms' development were largely unrelated. Overall, the study adds to the knowledge about the development of internalizing mental health from early childhood to late adolescence and highlights the need for additional support in late adolescence. Context Few reliable markers are available to distinguish transient congenital hypothyroidism (TCH) and permanent congenital hypothyroidism (PCH). Additionally, the differences in growth between TCH and PCH remain unclear. Objective To investigate the growth of children with TCH and PCH and develop a nomogram for early differentiation of these forms. Methods This retrospective study included children with TCH or PCH. The predictive efficacy of the prognostic predictors was analyzed using receiver operating characteristic analysis. Multivariate prediction models were developed. Measurements of growth were compared between groups. Results Patients with TCH had lower initial thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) than those with PCH at newborn screening (NBS). The supplementary dose of levothyroxine (L-T4) gradually decreased with age in TCH but not in PCH. The area under the curve (AUC) values of the initial TSH, L-T4 dose at 1 year of age, and L-T4 dose at 2 years of age for distinguishing TCH from PCH were 0.698, 0.71, and 0.879, respectively. The predictive efficacy of the multivariate models at 1 and 2 years of age improved, with AUC values of 0.752 and 0.922, respectively. A nomogram was built based on the multivariate model at 1 year of age. The growth did not differ between children with TCH and those with PCH. However, at 1 year of age, girls with CH exhibited higher z-scores in terms of height and weight than boys with CH. Conclusion TSH at NBS and L-T4 doses during treatment can be used to distinguish between PCH and TCH early in life, and the predictive efficacy can be improved using multivariable models with a visualized nomogram. Alpine skiing performance depends on several qualities, including lower limb strength, power production and flexibility. However, how these physical skills, as well as their relationship, differ between sexes and evolve in growing skiing athletes is still unclear. We analysed sit-and-reach (SR) and three jump test (height and peak power) scores of over 200 alpine ski racers collected across 15 sports seasons. We stratified data among sex and age categories to assess differences and to interpret the relationships between flexibility and jump performance. The mixed models showed a significant age category and sex effect (p < 0.001) for all the flexibility and jump performance scores, with males having higher jump scores but lower SR scores than females, and all performance scores increasing significantly through the age categories. The regressions between SR and the jump scores performed on the whole database were positively significant for the three jump variations (p < 0.001, R 2 ranging from 8.9% to 15.9%), while when the relationship was reanalysed independently in each age–sex group, only some were significant. Both age and sex influenced the performance in the investigated lower limb power and flexibility qualities, along with their relationship. The presented results suggest that lower limb power and flexibility should be longitudinally assessed, as well as their relationship, for training and testing purposes, considering the sex and growth-related modifications. Short stature affects approximately 2.5% of children. Some of them, when diagnosed with growth hormone deficiency (GHD), benefit from recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) therapy; in others, this treatment is controversial. We aimed to present the clinical characteristics of Polish short stature children in the context of current GHD diagnostic standards, as obtaining more data gives a broader foundation for the potential modifications of diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations. This retrospective analysis was based on a cohort of 277 short stature children divided into two subgroups depending on their peak growth hormone (GH) cutoff level, set at 10 ng/mL: 138 had growth hormone deficiency (GHD) and 137 had normal growth hormone secretion (GHN). These subgroups were then compared based on the extracted clinical data. In the obtained result, no significant differences between the GHD and GHN subgroups were found in any of the variables, including the following: gender distribution, birth weight, bone age delay, height SDS, IGF-1 SDS, vitamin D levels, celiac disease indices, prevalence of hypothyroidism or anemia. As our results point to major clinical similarities between the GHD and GHN children, it seems that distinguishing patients with normal GH secretion from those with deficient GH secretion based on a 10 ng/mL cutoff value might not be clinically relevant. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of feeding patterns during the first 6 months on weight development of infants ages 0–12 months. Using monitoring data from the Maternal and Child Health Project conducted by the National Center for Women and Children's Health of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention from September 2015 to June 2019, we categorized feeding patterns during the first 6 months as exclusive breastfeeding, formula feeding, or mixed feeding. We calculated weight-for-age Z scores (WAZ) according to the World Health Organization's (WHO) 2006 Child Growth Standard using WHO Anthro version 3.2.2. A multilevel model was used to analyze the effect of feeding patterns during the first 6 months on the WAZ of infants ages 0–12 months in monitoring regions. Length of follow-up (age of infants) was assigned to level 1, and infants was assigned to level 2. Characteristics of infants, mothers, and families and region of the country were adjusted for in the model. The average weight of infants ages 0–12 months in our study (except the birth weights of boys who were formula fed or mixed fed) was greater than the WHO growth standard. After we adjusted for confounding factors, the multilevel model showed that the WAZ of exclusively breastfed and mixed-fed infants were statistically significantly higher than those of formula-fed infants (coefficients = 0.329 and 0.159, respectively; P < 0.05), and there was a negative interaction between feeding patterns and age (both coefficients = − 0.020; P < 0.05). Infants who were exclusively breastfed were heavier than formula-fed infants from birth until 12 months of age. Mixed-fed infants were heavier than formula-fed infants before 8 months, after which the latter overtook the former. Infants' weight development may be influenced by feeding patterns during the first 6 months. This study aimed to determine the relationships between prenatal PM2.5 exposure and childhood growth trajectories during the first 6 years of life. A total of 47,625 pairs of mothers and children were recruited from a prospective birth cohort conducted between 2011 and 2013 in Wuhan, China, and followed for 6 years. We used the group-based trajectory models to classify the population into three trajectory groups: slow growth (n = 13,671, 28.7%), normal growth (n = 29,736, 62.4%), and rapid growth (n = 4218, 8.9%). Multinomial logistic regression models were used to determine the associations of prenatal PM2.5 exposure and childhood growth trajectories. Compared to normal growth trajectory, increased PM2.5 exposure in trimester 1, trimester 2 and the entire pregnancy showed significant associations with an increased risk of the slow growth trajectory but reduced the risk for the rapid growth trajectory, significant association of prenatal PM2.5 exposure with rapid growth trajectory was only observed in the trimester 3. Stratified analyses displayed relatively stronger associations among those mothers with maternal age over 35 years, pre-pregnancy BMI ≥ 25 kg/m2, and previous delivery experience. Prenatal exposure to PM2.5, particularly during the midpoint period of pregnancy, was more likely to have a slow growth trajectory and a lower risk of rapid growth trajectory. The study evaluated the efficacy of a three-month supplemental feeding intervention in encouraging weight gain among toddlers. Through linear regression analysis, this study aimed to elucidate the relationship between baseline measurements and monthly changes in toddler weight. Secondary data were collected and processed from 180 toddlers who underwent the intervention, covering baseline weight along with monthly measurements. These findings reveal a progressive month to month increase in body weight, as seen from the significant positive coefficients at eachmonth (β1 = 0.003, β2 = 0.204, β3 = 0.674), suggesting that the intervention had a positive and cumulative impact on children’s growth over a three-month period. These results underscore the importance of ongoing support and supplementation to achieve optimal growth outcomes. By measuring the impact of interventions on growth parameters, the study contributes valuable insights to the field, informing future strategies to address malnutrition and promote growth in vulnerable populations. Background: Improving the minimum acceptable diet (MAD) is essential for ensuring optimal growth and development of children, as well as preventing malnutrition and its consequences. Previous studies in Ethiopia have focused on the magnitude and determinants of a minimum acceptable diet. However, much emphasis was not given to minimum acceptable diet and its associated factors among 6–23 months old children enrolled in Outpatient therapeutic programs (OTP), particularly, in the study area. This study determines the minimum acceptable diet and associated factors among 6–23-month-old children enrolled in OTP. Methods: A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 346 randomly selected mothers with children aged 6–23 months who were admitted to the OTP. The data were collected using interviewer-administered structured questionnaires. The data were entered, cleaned, coded into Epidata version 4.6, and exported to SPSS version 26 for further analysis. Multivariate logistic regression was used to assess the determinants of MAD. Results: The overall prevalence of minimum Acceptable diet among children aged 6–23 months enrolled to OTP was 14.5% (95% CI: 12.02-19%). The odds of MAD were 1.9 times higher among children aged 18–23 months compared to children aged 6–11 months (AOR = 1.9, 95% CI ((1.2 3.9). The odds of MAD were 2.9times higher in children whose mothers had a good knowledge on recommended feeding (AOR = 2.9, 95% CI (1.2, 6.35). Mothers who had no formal education were 81% less likely to provide minimum acceptable diets for their children compared to their counterpart.(AOR = 1.94, 95% CI = 1.24, 4.19). Conclusion: The practice of a minimum acceptable diet is inadequate. Nutrition education should be emphasized to improve the mothers' nutrition knowledge regarding infant and young child feeding recommendations, to support mothers in overcoming barriers to feeding their children with adequate diets, and to foster complementary feeding practices for malnourished children. We examined how different ways of presenting time‐series data affect consumer judgments and behaviors. Specifically, we compared the use of absolute terms (e.g., actual dollar change) versus relative terms (e.g., annual percentage change) in charts. Our findings revealed that absolute charts tend to have a more positive visual slope than relative charts, leading consumers to extrapolate these trends and expect faster growth in quantities. In Study 1, participants who viewed COVID‐19 data in absolute charts, as opposed to relative charts, donated more money to a COVID‐19‐related charity and were less inclined to challenge quarantine advisories throughout the day. In Study 2, we observed that participants preferred investing in a country when its GDP was presented in an absolute chart, and visual trends were found to drive this effect. Study 3 demonstrated that individuals placed greater emphasis on absolute charts depicting population growth, particularly when the unit of measurement was more meaningful. Objectives: The REACT project was designed around two main aims: (1) to assess children's growth and motor development after the COVID‐19 pandemic and (2) to follow their fundamental movement skills' developmental trajectories over 18 months using a novel technological device (Meu Educativo®) in their physical education classes. In this article, our goal is to describe statistical analysis of the longitudinal ordinal motor development data that was obtained from these children using the multilevel ordinal logistic model. Methods: Longitudinal ordinal data are often collected in studies on motor development. For example, children or adolescents might be rated as having poor, good, or excellent performance levels in fundamental movement skills, and such ratings may be obtained yearly over time to assess changes in fundamental movement skills levels of performance. However, such longitudinal ordinal data are often analyzed using either methods for continuous outcomes, or by dichotomizing the ordinal outcome and using methods for binary data. These approaches are not optimal, and so we describe in detail the use of the multilevel ordinal logistic model for analysis of such data from the REACT project. Our intent is to provide an accessible description and application of this model for analysis of ordinal motor development data. Discussion: Our analyses show both the between‐subjects and within‐subjects effects of age on motor development outcomes across three timepoints. The between‐subjects effect of age indicate that children that are older have higher motor development ratings, relative to thoese that are younger, whereas the within‐subject effect of age indicates higher motor development ratings as a child ages. It is the latter effect that is particularly of interest in longitudinal studies of motor development, and an important advantage of using the multilevel ordinal logistic model relative to more traditional methods. Objective: The aim of this study is to monitor the cranial parameters of patients with sagittal craniosynostosis. We will mainly focus on the differences between endoscopic and open-surgical treatment and their influence on changes in cranial parameters in patients with craniosynostosis of the sagittal suture. Craniosynostosis has various consequences, including reduced self-confidence and problems fitting in among other children due to craniofacial deformity. Therefore, monitoring aesthetic results of craniosynostosis treatment in pediatric patients is important. Patients and Methods: The sample of patients included in this study comes from patients monitored by the neurosurgeon at the Department of Paediatric Neurosurgery of the National Institute of Child Diseases in Bratislava, Slovakia. Standardized anthropometric methods and tools to monitor cranial dimensions were used. Results: In our study, we noted no differences in aesthetic results between open and endoscopic surgical treatment. However, surgical treatment, regardless of the type of chosen treatment, produced the desired aesthetic results, and these results improved over time. Conclusion: The benefit of the work will be the longitudinal monitoring of the growth of children's cranium, and the evaluation of the effectiveness of surgical treatment in patients with neurocranial growth disorders and the prevention of late consequences of growth disorders. Nutrition plays a crucial role in the growth of healthy children, and its role is particularly critical in pediatric patients to help increase response to treatment, reduce morbidity and mortality, improve quality of life, and reduce treatment costs. Anthropometric indexes are an integral part of screening and assessment of the nutritional status. The present study aimed to examine the correlation between the mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) z-score with anthropometric indexes, such as weight and height, in the assessment of the nutritional status of pediatric inpatients. The present cross-sectional study was conducted on 500 pediatrics from 2 to 60 months of age. The nutritional status of all the pediatric patients was assessed using the following metrics: Weight for age, height for age, weight for height, MUAC for age. The nutritional status was then classified based on the z-score according to the WHO 2006 guidelines as follows: Weight/age: underweight (20.8%), overweight and obese (1.8%); weight/height: Wasting (14%), overweight and obese (5.4%); height/age: Stunting (24%), of which severe (10.2%); MUAC z-score: Malnutrition (27.2%), of which severe malnutrition (14.4%), and overweight (1%). The MUAC z-score was strongly associated with weight/height z-score (r=0.608; P<0.001). Thus, the present study demonstrates that it is necessary to use a combination of all three anthropometric indexes, namely weight, height and MUAC to detect early clinical malnutrition, particularly in patients whose weight is affected by fluid status; MUAC is an integral tool for assessing the nutritional status. Aim: How maternal opioid maintenance treatment (OMT) affects children is under‐researched. This population‐based registry study investigated child growth and somatic health following intrauterine exposure to this treatment. Methods: Children born between 1 March 2011 and 30 May 2021 to mothers who used buprenorphine, buprenorphine‐naloxone, or methadone throughout their pregnancies were followed for 2 years at the Helsinki University Hospital, Finland. Appropriate statistical tests were used to compare the treatment groups. Results: Of the 67 neonates, 52% were male, 96% were born full‐term and 63% were treated for neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome. Otherwise, the children were predominantly healthy, although relatively small: 22% were small for gestational age, the methadone group children being the smallest. Foetal exposure to maternal methadone treatment, illicit drugs, hepatitis C and smoking were associated with small for gestational age; the former two were also associated with later slower growth, especially head growth and weight gain (p < 0.001). However, 29% were overweight at 2 years. Conclusion: Using child growth as the outcome, we found that buprenorphine‐naloxone and buprenorphine‐monotherapy had equal effects as forms of maternal OMT. Exposure to multiple risk factors may harm foetal and subsequent growth. We recommend long‐term follow‐up of children exposed to maternal OMT. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

While randomized, placebo‐controlled, double‐blinded clinical studies are the gold standard for evaluating the efficacy of investigational drugs, the use of placebo in children with achondroplasia should be limited because it provides no clinical benefit while exhausting study participants' treatment window. Recifercept is an investigational drug for treating children with achondroplasia aged 2–10 years. An alternative efficacy evaluation method, instead of a placebo control arm, was employed in the phase II study. Prior to participating in the phase II study, participants completed a natural history (NH) study. Based on the NH data, a multi‐variate linear mixed effects natural disease course model of three anthropometric end points (standing height, sitting height, and arm span) was developed. The model was validated using published growth charts of children with achondroplasia. Subsequently, the model was used to simulate the natural growth trajectories (without any treatment) of the three anthropometric end points for the individuals enrolled in the phase II study. To quantify the efficacy of recifercept, the simulations were compared with the observations post‐recifercept treatment in the phase II study. For all the tested doses of recifercept, at the individual level, the observations were comparable to the simulations at 6 and 12 months post‐recifercept treatment, suggesting no treatment effect. The results contributed to the decision of terminating recifercept clinical development. This work delivers a framework that could eliminate the need for placebo in clinical trials yet provide sufficient evidence for evaluating the efficacy of an investigational drug. Using household-level panel data and a coarsened exact matching procedure, this paper investigates the relationship between frequent electricity outages and the anthropometric outcomes of children. Specifically, we study the differences in the anthropometric outcomes of children aged under 5 in the Kyrgyz Republic. We find that children living in households with frequent outages have z-scores of height-for-age (HAZ) that are 0.37 units lower compared to the children living in similar households but without frequent outages. We also document that HAZ values of girls are more sensitive toward frequent outages, which indicates a possible presence of gender bias among Kyrgyz households. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Context The assessment and treatment of children with growth retardation is increasingly complex, and due to availability of targeted genetic sequencing, an ever-expanding number of conditions impeding growth are being identified. Among endocrine-related etiologies of short stature amenable to hormonal treatment, defects in the growth hormone (GH)–insulin-like growth factor I axis remain pre-eminent, with a multiplicity of disorders causing decreased secretion or insensitivity to GH action. Sex steroids in puberty increase epiphyseal senescence and eventual growth plate closure. This is mediated mostly via estrogen receptor (ER)α in males and females, effects that can greatly limit time available for growth. Evidence Acquisition Extensive literature review through PubMed and other search engines. Evidence Synthesis Therapeutic strategies to be considered in peripubertal and pubertal children with disordered growth are here discussed, including daily and weekly GH, low-dose sex steroids, gonadotropin hormone releasing hormone (GnRH) analogues in combination with GH, aromatase inhibitors (AIs) alone and in combination with GH in boys. When used for at least 2 to 3 years, GnRH analogues combined with GH can result in meaningful increases in height. AIs used with GH permit puberty to progress in boys without hindrance, selectively decreasing estrogen, and resulting in taller height. With more than 20 years of cumulative experience in clinical use of these medications, we discuss the safety profile of these treatments. Conclusion The approach of growth retardation in the peripubertal and pubertal years must consider the sex steroid milieu and the tempo of bone acceleration. Background: Spiritual health is part of the general concept of child health. Considering the effects of spiritual health on the growth and development of children, it is necessary to understand the concept of spiritual health and its dimensions in children. Accordingly, this study explains the dimensions of children’s spiritual health. Methods: This qualitative study was conducted using conventional content analysis. The data was collected through semi-structured interviews with 17 children and 9 researchers and specialists in the field of children’s mental health. Interviews were conducted with an average duration of 30 min. Results: Dimensions of children’s spiritual health with two themes of balanced relationship in 4 categories of relationship with God, relationship with self, relationship with others, and relationship with the environment, and the theme of relationship transcendence in 2 categories of transcendent behaviors and love of God were explained. Conclusion: Regardless of other developmental principles that follow the rule of maturity, the balanced relationship of spiritual health and the relationship transcendence of spiritual health in children did not follow the rule of maturity, and due to the innateness of the themes of balanced relationship and relationship transcendence of spiritual health. These characteristics have existed in children since childhood, regardless of any religious-spiritual measures within the family, and their spiritual health potential has been realized from their potential state. Background: Growth charts are an important method for evaluating a child's health, growth, and nutritional status. It is essential to monitor the growth of children and adolescents using growth charts. Objectives: To present body mass index (BMI)-for-age references reflecting children's growth in Shanxi. We also compare our new data with growth references of other cities of China and World Health Organization (WHO) growth standards. Methods: A stratified cluster random sampling method was used to recruit 5461 children and adolescents aged 6–17 years. Height and weight were measured and BMI was calculated. The LMS method was used to calculate the percentile values of body mass index by sex and age. Smoothed BMI-for-age growth curves were presented for both sexes and compared with reference data from other cities of China and WHO. Results: BMI centiles increased with age but with different patterns in both boys and girls. The centile curves from the 3rd to the 50th had a slight increase, while a sharp increase was seen from 11 to 17 years in boys and from 6 to 14 years in girls in the higher centiles. In comparison with other cities of China, the values for the 50th percentile are higher than those reported for children from China 2009, Shanghai, Changsha and China 2010 in both sexes. In comparison with WHO growth references, Chinese girls and boys had higher values in all percentiles, whereas curves of girls look roughly the same. The medians for BMI in Shanxi increase linearly from 6 to 17 years in boys. Conclusions: The BMI percentiles of children aged 6–17 years in Shanxi differed significantly from the growth reference curves of other cities of China and WHO. Recommending the provision of BMI reference curves for local children and adolescents to assess their growth and development and monitor their nutritional status. Compare the T1 mapping, fat fraction, diffusion and perfusion parameters of the lumbar vertebrae of different age groups to establish normal values for healthy children and observe the trends in these parameters with age. A total of 146 healthy children (0–14 years) were included in this prospective study and underwent 3.0 T lumbar MRI examination. The study cohort was divided into five age groups (Group A ∼ E) according to development milestones in children. T1 mapping, Dixon and IVIM (intravoxel incoherent motion)sequence images were used to measure the parameters of lumbar vertebrae 2–4. The normal values of each parameter were measured and compared across different age groups. The T1 value was negatively correlated with age (r=-0.619, p<0.001). The fat fraction (FF%) was positively correlated with age (r=0.635, p<0.001). There was a negative correlation between the D value and age (r=-0.406, p<0.001). The D∗ value was positively correlated with age (r=0.54, p<0.001). The f value was positively correlated with age (r=0.775, p<0.001). The inflexion points of the T1 value and FF% curves were at approximately 3 years old (36 months).The inflexion points of the IVIM-related parameter curves were approximately 5 years old (60 months). The age-dependent differences in the vertebral body parameters of this pediatric cohort suggest changes in the bone marrow composition and cellular structure of the vertebral body during physiological growth in children. Several studies have shown the importance of the mother in the survival and wellbeing of her children. However, none of them have analyzed the rural areas of the Iberian Peninsula. In this article we use the life courses of more than 10 thousand children born between 1750 and 1959 to understand the effects of being motherless on the survival, educative outputs, and wellbeing. To achieve this, we use descriptive statistics as well as Cox and OLS regression models. Bone age assessment is a common diagnostic method used for abnormal growth and development in children. Despite recent significant advancements in convolutional neural network (CNN)-based intelligent bone age assessment in children, there remains room for improvement in assessment accuracy. Studies have indicated that a dual-path network (DPN) can incorporate different features of a CNN and improve the potential of the model to extract critical features compared to a single structural CNN. Attention mechanisms can also contribute to the enhanced ability of the model to extract channel and spatial features. Therefore, we propose a dual attention dual-path network (DADPN) to improve the accuracy of pediatric bone age assessment. DPN serves as a backbone network in DADPN by incorporating residual and dense connections. DPN was modified using two different attention mechanisms while containing gender information to compensate for physiological differences in bone age between males and females. Experiments were performed using this method with the RSNA Pediatric Bone Age Challenge dataset and compared to nine representative bone age assessment methods. This method achieved an optimal assessment accuracy with a mean absolute error (MAE) of 4.76 months. The experimental results suggest that the DADPN can extract the effective features of pediatric hand bone X-ray images and improve bone age assessment accuracy more than other deep learning methods. This study takes the parent-child game behavior of children aged 3~6 and their parents as the research object, and extracts and summarizes the user behavioral needs of parents and children when they use game-based furniture together by using the questionnaire research method, observation method, and interview method. Based on the KJ method, 16 behavioral demand indicators were compiled by five furniture design students to construct a user behavioral demand system. In addition, AHP and entropy weight method were used to solve the user behavioral demand weights from subjective and objective perspectives in this study. Twenty experts and designers in this research field scored the indicators two by two and solved the subjective weights of user behavioral requirements according to the AHP algorithm. A seven-level Likert scale was used to design the questionnaire and distribute it to the parents of children aged 3–6 to fill in, and the 121 valid questionnaires obtained were used as raw data for entropy weighting to obtain the objective weights of user behavioral needs representing the opinions of interactive game-based furniture users. Finally, with 0.4 as the proportion coefficient of subjective weights, the subjective and objective weights were weighted to get the comprehensive weight value of each demand. The results show that the eight items with higher weights for user behavioral needs include: firm and stable, safe in use, comfortable for both parents and children, holding behavior by human-machine dimensions, able to sit on the ground and play, able to play face-to-face, easy to find for picking up, and sufficient operating space. In general, parent-child interactive game furniture firstly needs to meet the user's needs for safety and comfort, and secondly needs to meet the user's needs for the state of the game posture and the furniture size to meet the needs of the fetching and storage posture and the game space. The fuzzy comprehensive evaluation model established based on these needs can take into account the opinions of design experts and users at the same time and put the needs of children and parents in an equally important position so that the design of children's play furniture can tend to meet the needs of parents and children when they use it together, and to promote parent-child interaction and the healthy growth of children. Stunting is caused by various factors, including low nutritional intake in the first two years of life. This study aimed to investigate the differences in sociodemographic factors and mineral, vitamin, and enzyme parameters in mothers associated with the occurrence of stunting in children. We conducted a cross-sectional study from September to November 2020 on North Sumatra Island, Indonesia. The data collected included sociodemographic characteristics, pregnancy history, birth history, food intake, and laboratory examinations, including measurements of calcium, iron, zinc, vitamin D, pancreatic amylase, and serum lipase levels. This study included 50 healthy mothers aged 18–50 years old with children aged 2 to 60 months. There was a significant difference in serum calcium levels between the groups of mothers of children with normal and stunted growth (p = 0.03, mean difference±standard error (SE) = 0.23±0.12, 95% CI: 0.19–0.45). All of the study subjects were categorized as vitamin D deficient. The mean lipase level in the group of mothers of children with stunted growth was significantly lower than that in the group of mothers of children with normal growth (p = 0.02, mean difference±SE = 4.34±1.83, 95% CI: 0.62–8.06). The conclusion was that serum lipase levels were significantly lower in mothers of children with stunted growth compared to mothers of children with normal growth. Serum lipase levels this low are likely to indicate that a mother is unable to meet her child's calcium needs during pregnancy, increasing the child's risk of stunted growth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the majority of children with growth hormone (GH) deficiency (GHD), normal GH secretion may occur before the attainment of final height. The aim of the study was to assess the incidence of persistent and transient GHD and the effectiveness of recombined human GH (rhGH) therapy in children with isolated, idiopathic GHD with respect to the moment of therapy withdrawal and according to different diagnostic criteria of GHD. The analysis included 260 patients (173 boys, 87 girls) with isolated, idiopathic GHD who had completed rhGH therapy and who had been reassessed for GH and IGF-1 secretion. The incidence of transient GHD with respect to different pre- and post-treatment criteria was compared together with the assessment of GH therapy effectiveness. The incidence of transient GHD, even with respect to pediatric criteria, was very high. Normal GH secretion occurred before the attainment of near-final height. Application of more restricted criteria decreased the number of children diagnosed with GHD but not the incidence of transient GHD among them. Poor response to GH therapy was observed mainly in the patients with normal IGF-1 before treatment, suggesting that their diagnosis of GHD may have been a false positive. Introduction: The primary dietary approach for managing cow's milk allergy (CMA) is the elimination diet. We aimed to compare the growth patterns of children with CMA during and after the elimination diet with healthy peers and identify influencing factors. Methods: We compared 74 CMA children with age-matched healthy peers. Anthropometric data were collected during the third month of cow's milk elimination (CME) diet (T1), 3 months after diet cessation (T2), and after ≥3 months of normal diet (T3). Control group measurements coincided. Nutrient intake was assessed by a 3-day record, and patient laboratory results were noted at T3. Results: CMA children had consistently lower weight-for-age (WFA) and height-for-age (HFA) z-scores than controls. WtHt z-score of patients was lower than those of the healthy group at T2. HC z-scores of patients were lower than those of the healthy group at T0, T2, and T3. At T3, the HFA z-score of the CME group demonstrated a negative correlation with the duration of the elimination diet (p = 0.045). Inadequate intake of energy, vitamins A, E, B1, B6, C, folic acid, magnesium, and iron was significantly higher in CMA children (p < 0.05). T3 WFA z-score correlated positively with fiber, vitamin B1, magnesium, and iron intake (p < 0.05). T3 WtHt showed a positive moderate correlation with energy, protein, vitamin E, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B6, calcium, magnesium, phosphor, iron intake (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Post-elimination diet, children with CMA need sustained monitoring and potentially micronutrient supplementation to match healthy peers' growth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is characterized by a switch from failure to thrive to excessive weight gain and hyperphagia in early childhood. An elevated, more unfavorable ratio between acylated and unacylated ghrelin (AG/UAG ratio) might play a role in the underlying mechanisms of this switch. We aimed to assess the evolution of the appetite-regulating hormones acylated ghrelin (AG) and unacylated ghrelin (UAG) and the AG/UAG ratio and their association with the change in eating behavior in children with PWS, compared to healthy age-matched controls. Methods: A longitudinal study was conducted in 134 children with PWS and 157 healthy controls, from the Netherlands, France, and Belgium. Levels of AG and UAG and the AG/UAG ratio were measured and nutritional phases as reported for PWS were scored. Results: The AG/UAG ratio was lower in the first years of life in PWS than in controls and started to increase from the age of 3 years, resulting in a high-normal AG/UAG ratio compared to controls. The AG levels remained stable during the different nutritional phases (p = 0.114), while the UAG levels decreased from 290 pg/mL in phase 1a to 137 pg/mL in phase 2b (p < 0.001). The AG/UAG ratio increased significantly from 0.81 in phase 2a to 1.24 in phase 2b (p = 0.012). Conclusions: The change from failure to thrive to excessive weight gain and hyperphagia in infants and children with PWS coincides with an increase in AG/UAG ratio. Introduction: Although there are some recommendations in the literature on the assessments that should be performed in children on recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) therapy, the level of consensus on these measurements is not clear. The objective of the current study was to identify the minimum dataset (MDS) that could be measured in a routine clinical setting across the world, aiming to minimise burden on clinicians and improve quality of data collection. Methods: This study was undertaken by the growth hormone (GH) scientific study group in GloBE-Reg, a new project that has developed a common registry platform that can support long-term safety and effectiveness studies of drugs. Twelve clinical experts from 7 international endocrine organisations identified by the GloBE-Reg Steering Committee, 2 patient representatives, and representatives from 2 pharmaceutical companies with previous GH registry expertise collaborated to develop this recommendation. A comprehensive list of data fields routinely collected by each of the clinical and industry experts for children with growth hormone deficiency (GHD) was compiled. Each member was asked to determine the: (1) importance of the data field and (2) ease of data collection. Data fields that achieved 70% consensus in terms of importance qualified for the MDS, provided <50% deemed the item difficult to collect. Results: A total of 246 items were compiled and 27 were removed due to redundancies, with 219 items subjected to the grading system. Of the 219 items, 111 achieved at least 70% consensus as important data to collect when monitoring children with GHD on rhGH treatment. Sixty-nine of the 219 items were deemed easy to collect. Combining the criteria of importance and ease of data collection, 63 met the criteria for the MDS. Several anomalies to the MDS rule were identified and highlighted for discussion, including whether the patients were involved in current or previous clinical trials, need for HbA1c monitoring, other past medical history, and adherence, enabling formulation of the final MDS recommendation of 43 items; 20 to be completed once, 14 every 6 months, and 9 every 12 months. Conclusion: In summary, this exercise performed through the GloBE-Reg initiative provides a recommendation of the MDS requirement, collected through real-world data, for the monitoring of safety and effectiveness of rhGH in children with GHD, both for the current daily preparations and the newer long-acting GH. This article advocates for a hermeneutic model for children-AI (age group 7–11 years) interactions in which the desirable purpose of children's interaction with artificial intelligence (AI) systems is children's growth. The article perceives AI systems with machine-learning components as having a recursive element when interacting with children. They can learn from an encounter with children and incorporate data from interaction, not only from prior programming. Given the purpose of growth and this recursive element of AI, the article argues for distinguishing the interpretation of bias within the artificial intelligence (AI) ethics and responsible AI discourse. Interpreting bias as a preference and distinguishing between positive (pro-diversity) and negative (discriminative) bias is needed as this would serve children's healthy psychological and moral development. The human-centric AI discourse advocates for an alignment of capacities of humans and capabilities of machines by a focus both on the purpose of humans and on the purpose of machines for humans. The emphasis on mitigating negative biases through data protection, AI law, and certain value-sensitive design frameworks demonstrates that the purpose of the machine for humans is prioritized over the purpose of humans. These top–down frameworks often narrow down the purpose of machines to do-no-harm and they miss accounting for the bottom-up views and developmental needs of children. Therefore, applying a growth model for children-AI interactions that incorporates learning from negative AI-mediated biases and amplifying positive ones would positively benefit children's development and children-centric AI innovation. Consequently, the article explores: What challenges arise from mitigating negative biases and amplifying positive biases in children-AI interactions and how can a growth model address these? To answer this, the article recommends applying a growth model in open AI co-creational spaces with and for children. In such spaces human–machine and human–human value alignment methods can be collectively applied in such a manner that children can (1) become sensitized toward the effects of AI-mediated negative biases on themselves and others; (2) enable children to appropriate and imbue top-down values of diversity, and non-discrimination with their meanings; (3) enforce children's right to identity and non-discrimination; (4) guide children in developing an inclusive mindset; (5) inform top-down normative AI frameworks by children's bottom-up views; (6) contribute to design criteria for children-centric AI. Applying such methods under a growth model in AI co-creational spaces with children could yield an inclusive co-evolution between responsible young humans in the loop and children-centric AI systems. The natural regeneration of forest ecosystems is crucial for their sustainability, but uncertainties have impeded the regeneration of some tree species. Identifying influencing factors and effective strategies to enhance seedling survival and growth is essential. We investigated factors affecting the natural regeneration of Larix principis‐rupprechtii and provided insights into seedling survival and growth. Eighteen artificial L. principis‐rupprechtii forest plots were established and monitored for 3 years. A logistic regression analysis and generalized linear models were used to investigate the influence of stand age, diameter at ground level, height, and other microhabitat factors on seedling regeneration. The microhabitat factors significantly influenced the overall L. principis‐rupprechtii regeneration density, as well as the density and growth of regenerated trees in different height classes. The area under the curve values for total nitrogen (0.796), total phosphorus (0.726), soil moisture (0.759), and litter thickness (0.633) were the highest, indicating a significant impact on the survival rate and mortality of the seedlings. Among these values, total nitrogen sensitivity (0.857) and specificity (0.810) were the highest, and the optimal threshold was 0.940. The survival rate decreased with increasing forest age, and the stands aged 4–7 years with a height of 1–2.5 m and a diameter at the ground level of approximately 2 cm constituted a relatively vulnerable and critical set of conditions for the survival of L. principis‐rupprechtii seedlings. The model showed that at 12 years old, L. principis‐rupprechtii trees were no longer vulnerable to mortality. The Kaplan–Meier model predicted future seedling survival through the construction of the comprehensive influence value and the measured seedling survival number. The model can be used to evaluate the survival rate for the final regeneration of a species, and targeted artificial seeding or replanting can improve the proportion of seedlings that survive. Our findings contribute to elucidating the factors affecting the natural regeneration of forest species and provide valuable insights for the development of effective regeneration strategies. The ketogenic diet (KD) can have a negative impact on the linear growth and body composition of children. The aims of this study were to review two centers' experience with children who developed height deceleration on the KD and determine if the height deceleration was secondary to growth hormone deficiency (GHD), and if growth hormone therapy (GHT) would be effective and safe (not altering ketosis or seizure frequency). Retrospective chart reviews were performed on patients with KD referred to Endocrinology between 2013 and 2018. Seventeen children were identified. Data reviewed included: demographics, growth velocity, KD ratio, protein/calorie intake, lab results, GH dosage, Tanner stage, and seizure frequency, and endocrine recommendations. Descriptive statistics were performed. Of the 17 children referred to the Endocrine Division, seven children were growth hormone deficient and began GHT. Data were provided for six patients (2 males, 4 females; age 2–7 years at the start of KD) on the KD for >6 years and on GHT for >4 years. Growth for all patients stabilized or increased. IGF‐1 z‐scores normalized. GHT did not affect seizure frequency or ketosis. GHT in those with GHD can be an appropriate option allowing better growth while still maintaining ketogenic therapy and seizure control. Plain Language Summary: The KD can be an effective treatment for difficult‐to‐control epilepsy and some disorders of carbohydrate metabolism. The KD can adversely affect the linear growth (height) of children. This case series reviewed six patients who had slow linear growth. Introduction: We present the evolution of GHD in adolescent males with persistent growth failure, in whom the diagnosis was established after a second GH stimulation test (GST). Methods: We performed a retrospective chart review of children who presented for short stature (height less < 2SD for mean/mid-parental height) and/or growth failure (sustained growth velocity < 0 SD) to pediatric endocrinology at Mount Sinai Kravis Children's Hospital, New York and who had 2 GSTs. Data collected from electronic medical records were analyzed using SPSS v28.0 Results: Of 53 patients included, 42 were males. Average GH peak on initial GST was 15.48 ± 4.92 ng/ml, at 10.07 ± 2.65 years, mean height -1.68 ± 0.56SD(28% had <2SD), IGF-1 -1.00 ± 0.88SD. After 2.23 ± 1.22 years, at 12.04 ± 2.41years, height SDs decreased to -1.82 ± 0.63SD and IGF-1 was -1.08 ± 0.84SD. At repeat GST, average GH peak was 7.59 ± 2.12 ng/dL, with 36% ≤7 ng/dl and 32% in puberty. 12 males reached adult height of 0.08 ± 0.69 SD with a mean height gain of 1.83 ± 0.56SD(p<0.005), IGF-1 of -1.15 ± 0.81SD after 4.64 ± 1.4 years of GH. Conclusion: We offer evidence for Evolving Growth Hormone Deficiency (EGHD) through repeat GST in children with persistent growth slowdown, even with pubertal progression; emphasizing the need for careful longitudinal follow-up to make accurate diagnosis. Introduction: While a number of studies have examined the nutritional impacts of agroecological interventions, few have examined impacts on child development, maternal and child anemia, and men's dietary diversity. Moreover, there have been few such evaluations at scale. We evaluated the impact of a large-scale, multi-component food-based nutrition intervention involving homestead food production, nutrition counselling, cooking demonstrations, and crop planning exercises. Methods: A cross-sectional assessment was conducted in 2021–2022 of 50 intervention villages where the nutrition-sensitive agroecology program had been implemented since 2018 and 79 control villages where only the agroecology program had been implemented. Data on self-reported dietary intake, caregiver-reported early child development, anthropometric measurements, and hemoglobin concentrations were collected using standardized procedures by trained Nutrition Farming Fellows, who were also responsible for implementing the program. Results: A sample of 3,511 households (1,121 intervention and 2,390 control) participated in the survey. Dietary diversity scores (DDS) among women and men were mean (SD) 6.53 (±1.62) and 6.16 (±1.65), respectively, in intervention villages and 5.81 (±1.58) and 5.39 (±1.61), respectively, in control villages (p<0.01). DDS among children 6–24 months of age in intervention and control villages was 2.99 (±1.52) and 2.73 (±1.62), respectively (p<0.01). Children <2 years of age were less likely to be anemic in intervention versus control villages (59% versus 69%, p<0.01). Children 18–35 months age in intervention villages had higher child development scores than children in control villages (all p<0.05). Conclusion: Nutrition-sensitive agroecological programs may be effective in improving diets, nutrition, and child development in rural India. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

More than 250 million children will not meet their developmental potential due to poverty and malnutrition. Psychosocial stimulation has shown promising effects for improving development in children exposed to severe acute malnutrition (SAM) but programs are rarely implemented. In this study, we used qualitative methods to inform the development of a psychosocial stimulation programme to be integrated with SAM treatment in Mwanza, Tanzania. We conducted in-depth interviews with seven caregivers of children recently treated for SAM and nine professionals in early child development. We used thematic content analysis and group feedback sessions and organised our results within the Nurturing Care Framework. Common barriers to stimulate child development included financial and food insecurity, competing time demands, low awareness about importance of responsive caregiving and stimulating environment, poor father involvement, and gender inequality. Caregivers and professionals suggested that community-based support after SAM treatment and counselling on psychosocial stimulation would be helpful, e.g., how to create homemade toys and stimulate through involvement in everyday chores. Based on the findings of this study we developed a context-relevant psychosocial stimulation programme. Introduction: Micronutrient deficiencies are prevalent in West Africa, particularly among women of reproductive age (WRA) and young children. Bouillon is a promising food fortification vehicle due to its widespread consumption. This study aims to evaluate the impact of multiple micronutrient-fortified bouillon cubes, compared to control bouillon cubes (fortified with iodine only), on micronutrient status and hemoglobin concentrations among lactating and non-lactating WRA and young children in northern Ghana. Methods: This randomized, controlled doubly-masked trial will be conducted in the Kumbungu and Tolon districts in the Northern Region of Ghana, where prior data indicate multiple micronutrient deficiencies are common. Participants will be: 1) non-pregnant non-lactating WRA (15–49 y), 2) children 2–5 y, and 3) non-pregnant lactating women 4–18 months postpartum. Eligible participants will be randomly assigned to receive household rations of one of two types of bouillon cubes: 1) a multiple micronutrient-fortified bouillon cube containing vitamin A, folic acid, vitamin B12, iron, zinc, and iodine, or 2) a control cube containing iodine only. Each participant's household will receive a ration of bouillon cubes every 2 weeks, and households will be advised to prepare meals as usual, using the study-provided cubes. The trial duration will be 9 months for non-pregnant non-lactating WRA and children, and 3 months for lactating women. The primary outcomes will be changes in biomarkers of micronutrient status and hemoglobin among WRA and children and milk micronutrient concentrations among lactating women. Secondary outcomes will include change in prevalence of micronutrient deficiency and anemia; dietary intake of bouillon and micronutrients; inflammation, malaria, and morbidity symptoms; and child growth and development. Discussion: Evidence from this study will inform discussions about bouillon fortification in Ghana and West Africa. Background: Stunting is associated with adverse outcomes in adulthood. This article specifically aims to analyse the relationship between childhood stunting and education as well as cognitive outcomes for adults in Indonesia. Methods: Pooled data from wave one (1) and two (2) of the Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS) in 1993 and 1997 identified a sub-sample of 4,379 children aged 0–5 by their height-for-age (HAZ) to be compared for their differences in educational outcomes and cognitive abilities in 2014. HAZ was used to proxy relative height to determine stunting status based on 2006 WHO child's growth standards. Education and cognitive abilities outcomes include years of schooling, age of school entry, grade repetition, and scores for cognitive and math tests. The study employs estimation models of pooled regressions and instrumental variable (IV) to address problems of endogeneity and bias from omitted variables. Results: Stunting and relatively small stature had significant associations with cognitive development, and they worked as intermediaries to cognitive developmental barriers as manifested in reduced educational outcomes. A lack of one SD in HAZ was associated with 0.6 years shortened length of the school, 3% higher chances of dropouts from secondary school, and 0.10–0.23 SD lowered cognitive and numerical scores. Similarly, stunting is associated with decrease cognitive test scores by 0.56–0.8 SD compared to non-stunting, two years less schooling, and 0.4 years of delayed entry to school. As for cognitive abilities, stunting is associated with lower cognitive and numerical abilities by 0.38–0.82 z-scores. Conclusion: Growth retardation during childhood in Indonesia was associated with lower cognitive abilities, particularly during school age, and this correlation faded as individuals grew up. Subsequently, growth retardation is significantly linked to lower educational outcomes. Impaired growth has implications for reduced lifetime earnings potential mediated by diminished cognitive capacity and lower educational attainment. The finding suggests that development in Indonesia during recent decades has not provided an adequate environment to enable children to achieve their potential educational outcomes. Being defined as an autoimmune, chronic pathology, frequently encountered in any age group, but especially in pediatrics, celiac disease (also called gluten enteropathy), is gaining more and more ground in terms of diagnosis, but also interest in research. The data from the literature of the last decades attest the chameleonic way of its presentation, there may be both classic onset symptoms and atypical symptoms. Given the impact played by celiac disease, especially in the optimal growth and development of children, the current narrative review aims to highlight the atypical presentation methods, intended to guide the clinician towards the inclusion of the pathology in the differential diagnosis scheme. To these we add the summary presentation of the general data and therapeutic lines regarding the underlying condition and the existing comorbidities. In order to place the related information up to date, we performed a literature review of the recent articles published in international databases. We bring forward the current theories and approaches regarding both classic celiac disease and its atypical manifestations. Among these we note mainly constitutional, skin or mucous, bone, neuro-psychic, renal, reproductive injuries, but also disorders of biological constants and association with multiple autoimmunities. The text is a review of the book "El capital en la era del Antropoceno" written by Kohei Saito. The author addresses the relationship between capitalism and the climate crisis, proposing a transition towards what he calls "degrowth communism". The book presents a critical review of the Sustainable Development Goals and international agreements related to emissions reduction. Although the argumentation is well articulated, it lacks depth in the use of empirical evidence. The author seeks to contribute to a just and sustainable society without sacrificing freedom, equality, and democracy. The text criticizes Saito's work for omitting Marxist references in his analysis of degrowth and Marxism. Despite these omissions, Chapter 6 of the book presents an interesting account of how capitalism generates deficiencies and how communism can lead to abundance. The author proposes measures such as the recovery of the commons, the democratization of the economy, and economic deceleration. However, the text also points out that the book lacks empirical analysis and concrete political proposals, which weakens its argument. Additionally, it does not address the problem of power or desire in the implementation of these proposals. Despite this, the book offers an orderly review of the arguments and is recommended for those interested in understanding how Marx would analyze the problem of the climate emergency. Beckwith–Wiedemann syndrome (BWS) is an epigenetic overgrowth syndrome. Despite its distinctive growth pattern, the detailed growth trajectories of children with BWS remain largely unknown. We retrospectively analyzed 413 anthropometric measurements over an average of 4.4 years of follow‐up in 51 children with BWS. We constructed sex‐specific percentile curves for height, weight, and head circumference using a generalized additive model for location, scale, and shape. Males with BWS exhibited greater height at all ages evaluated, weight before the age of 10, and head circumference before the age of 9 than those of the general population. Females with BWS showed greater height before the age of 7, weight before the age of 4.5, and head circumference before the age of 7 than those of the general population. At the latest follow‐up visit at a mean 8.4 years of age, bone age was significantly higher than chronological age. Compared to paternal uniparental disomy (pUPD), males with imprinting center region 2‐loss of methylation (IC2‐LOM) had higher standard deviation score (SDS) for height and weight, while females with IC2‐LOM showed larger SDS for head circumference.
