Lauded for its capacity to curtail building energy consumption and enhance environmental performance compared to traditional mineral-based materials, wood has gained substantial traction in the construction sector. Timber construction, which is a focal point of growing interest in both industry and academia, warrants a reassessment of its historical trajectory and future prospects. This study examines publications on timber construction from 1990 to 2022 to analyze the growth path, shifting hotspots, and potential research directions in this field. By employing scientometric analysis, influential journals, articles, countries, and keywords are identified. Integration into a logistic growth model (LGM) showcases publication trends, while the Prophet model forecasts global growth. Research frontiers and emerging themes are revealed through keyword bursts surge evolution. This study offers a visualized knowledge framework, bridging current research with future trends and enabling practitioners and researchers to comprehensively grasp the evolution of timber construction.

In this paper, 18 scientists from China and other countries were selected for consideration as case studies of 'strategic scientists'. They were chosen according to their involvement in science and technology policy decision-making, development of key and advantageous fields, creation of new disciplines, construction of academic traditions, and intersections between science and industry. On this basis, we found that the growth paths of strategic scientists can be divided into three phases: as talented young scientists, as gatekeepers in related disciplines or research fields, and as consultants for national science and technology decision-making. Based on this trichotomy, we explored the characteristics of strategic scientists and the conditions required for their growth in each phase. To address the national mandate to enhance learner abilities and ensure continuous learning, and to overcome the challenges of inadequate quantity and low quality of teachers, the Philippine government enacted the Excellence in Teacher Education Act in April 2022, initiating teacher education reforms. Focusing on the concept of excellent teachers, the act addresses the definition of Filipino excellence in teaching and the establishment of an excellent teacher education system. The training objectives for excellent teachers aim to cultivate individuals who embody integrity, competence, and a commitment to continuous professional growth, serving as Filipino educators and school leaders. In terms of system construction, the Teacher Excellence Education Act mandates the formation of a comprehensive triangular structure comprising decision-making, management, and execution layers. Specific measures include empowering the Teacher Education Council to oversee the entire teacher education landscape, enhancing management systems to enforce the regulatory responsibilities of the National Educators Academy of the Philippines, and leveraging exemplary Centers of Excellence in Teacher Education to improve the implementation of teacher education. An analysis of the training objectives and system construction of excellent teacher education in the Philippines reveals characteristics such as modernized governance, standardized professional development, visualized growth paths, and flexible incentive mechanisms. However, challenges remain, such as the shortage of qualified teachers, a lower overall educational attainment level among teachers, and inadequate funding. Therefore, there is still a significant gap between the vision of pursuing "excellent teachers" and the current reality in the Philippines.

Comparing one hyper-growth venture with one moderate growth venture, we show that growth paths critically depend on the founders' capability to leverage BAs' and VCs' financial and cognitive resources in an ongoing process of interaction. Dynamically matching specific entrepreneurs' and investors' decision-making styles is critical for shaping heterogeneous growth paths, as investors and entrepreneurs interact. Specifically, sharing a predictive decision-making style among VCs, BAs and entrepreneurs facilitate mutual communication and shared understanding in the joint pursuit of ambitious growth targets. To the contrary, matching non-predictive and purely control-oriented entrepreneurs with BAs featuring an identical decision-making style locks the venture into a moderate growth trajectory. This has practical implications for entrepreneurs searching for the adequate funding strategy, and for equity investors in their assessment of entrepreneurs' cognitive profiles. Plain English Summary: Decision-making style in entrepreneurial finance and growth: how matching predictive entrepreneurs with predictive VCs and business angels boosts venture growth. Predictive decision-making boosts strong venture growth when shared by entrepreneurs, business angels (BAs), and venture capitalists (VCs) alike. How local industrial clusters break through the lock-in status of low end of value chains and realize industrial upgrading in the development process of embedded global value chain is the central topic of current industrial development research. To explore how industrial clusters achieve the enhancement of their innovation capability and value chains when they are embedded in the global value chain, from the perspective of knowledge transfer and according to the differences in the knowledge levels of the local industrial clusters, three fuzzy game models of knowledge transfer paths were constructed, and the model of the realization mechanism of knowledge transfer and its stability condition was analyzed, which make clear the path of cluster growth under different embedding modes. Results show that although the mode of embedding and the path of knowledge transfer is different, the local industrial clusters can obtain external knowledge transfer by embedding in the global value chain; the knowledge transformation ability of local industrial clusters is the determining factor that the knowledge transfer can smoothly achieve and become stable. The conclusion also shows that the feasibility of the cross-sectional growth of industrial clusters by actively embed the global value chain and acquiring external knowledge transfer if the industrial clusters want to enhance their technology accumulation, their innovation ability, and their position in the global value chain. This paper investigates whether China's provincial economies follow the same growth path by adopting a finite mixture model in which provinces are sorted into groups according to the similarity in the conditional distribution of their growth rates. The method is flexible in that it accounts for (i) endogenous classifications other than given priori, (ii) heterogeneous marginal effects of determinants, (iii) the possibility of growth path transformation, and (iv) the roles of geographic location and institutions in the growth path. The results reveal that all provinces do not follow a common growth process, but rather two distinct growth regimes. Particularly, one is dominated by foreign direct investment and financial depth, while the other is dominated by trade openness. The growth process of provinces in the central region evolves around the year 2004 from the former to the latter. More importantly, geography and institutions help sort provinces into groups, and institutions are more predominant. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Beef production is an important economic activity. In Southern Europe there are two types of beef production systems based on growth paths: continuous (CG) versus discontinuous growth (DG). DG is a traditional system dependent on pasture; whereas in CG animals are supplemented on concentrate feed. We compare the protein abundance profiles of the longissimus thoracis (LT) muscle in CG and DG animals using label-free quantitative proteomics. Twenty three Alentejana male calves (9 months-old, 239 kg live-weight) were allocated to two feeding regimens. In CG (n = 12) production system, animals were fed ad libitum on concentrates plus hay and slaughtered at 18 months. In DG (n = 11) production system, animals were fed ad libitum on hay from 9 to 15 months of age and then the same diet provided to the CG group and slaughtered at 24 months. The LT muscle was sampled and protein abundance profiles determined using label-free quantification. We identified 510 proteins, of which 26 showed differential abundance. Several proteins (e.g. Myozenin-2, glyoclythic enzymes and 14-3-3 protein zeta/delta) are proposed as indicators of a more intensive growth path. Myosin binding protein H had higher abundance in the DG group, suggesting it could be associated to discontinuous growth path. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We have recently shown that the expression of the DNAJA1 gene encoding a heat shock protein (Hsp40) is a negative marker of meat tenderness in Charolais bulls. To acquire knowledge on the regulation of DNAJA1 expression, we analysed the abundance of DNAJA1 transcripts and protein during development and according to management factors (e.g. feeding treatments, growth path and stress status) in different bovine muscles during postnatal life. We report here a developmental expression profile for DNAJA1 with decreased levels of transcript and protein during the progression of myogenesis. During postnatal life, we found the highest expression of DNAJA1 in the most oxidative muscles. No effect was detected for dietary treatment (pasture v. maize-based diet), growth path (compensatory growth after a restriction period) or pre-slaughter stress status. Therefore, the genetic background and muscle type could be considered as the main factors regarding the level of DNAJA1. Integration of the knowledge gained from this study should help to predict muscle metabolic properties and the ability of the live animals to give high sensory quality meat.
