Grapevine cultivation has important threats, being viral disorders one of the most extended among the disorders of biotic origin. The Vitis genus hosts many viruses. Although most of them are largely unknown, the focus is placed on a few that produce significant effects in a global scenario. Those viruses are Arabis mosaic virus (ArMV), Grapevine fanleaf virus (GFLV), Grapevine fleck virus (GFkV), and Grapevine leafroll-associated viruses 1 and 3 (GLRaV-1 and -3), which cause the viral disorders arabis, fanleaf, fleck, and leafroll respectively. Due to their worldwide distribution and/or the economic impact they cause on the crop, they are included in different certification schemes. That consideration has motivated the development of many studies and the record of their effects. This chapter delves into the current understanding of those viral organisms and into the disorders they cause in the grapevine. It aims to bring together the current knowledge at the biological, genetic, and cytopathological levels, highlighting the deep knowledge achieved on some aspects as the further need for research into others. Additionally, it emphasizes the need for active research and legislation actualization due to the continuous emergence of new viral strains and species. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
