Hamid Araslı, one of the leading literary critics of the 20th century, made great contributions to Azerbaijani literature with his research. As a result of his research, the poets who lived and created between Nizami and Fuzuli's creativity in literature were examined and he conducted a study on this subject. It has revealed a lot of unknown information about the poets. Hamid Araslı, in his work "The Life of the Poet", described the city of Ganja in the 12th century and the life and works of Nizami Ganjavi. In the work, extensive information is given about the atmosphere in Ganja at that time, the Ozan neighborhood and the Ahi brotherhood organization that emerged in Ganja, as well as the writing history of the genius poet's "Hamsa". In the work, along with Nizami, Abul-ula Ganjavi, his grandfather Zeki Muayyadin, his father Yusif, his father's friend and teacher the poet Imadeddin, his brother Givami Ganjavi, Mehsati Ganjavi, Hatibi, whose works he read with love, Ganja emir Garasungur, scholar Ebu Zekeriyya Yahya, Hakani, Muhammed Felaki, Valuable figures such as Mujireddin Beylagani are mentioned. In this conversational interview with Jessica Benjamin, who herself is a grandmother of feminist and relational psychoanalysis, we explore the scopic field of grandmaternal subjectivity. Starting with Benjamin's recognition theory and thirdness, we consider how interrelated these positions are with maternal subjectivity, and then expand out to other layers of recognition by and of grandmothers, emphasizing where the grandmaternal can foster a sense of innate goodness in the mother through recognition. Benjamin is clear to not exclude fathers or grandfathers in her recognition of multiple subjectivities. She also considers the ways in which generational distance and age play a role in emotional regulation around young children, and broader social issues pertaining to recognition. This study aims to gain more insight in the lived experience of men who became father at an advanced age (40 years or older). Advanced Parental Age (APA) is becoming an increasingly widespread phenomenon as the average age at which people have children has been increasing for decades now. However, the psychosocial dimension of APA-fatherhood in particular remains a highly understudied topic. This Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis presents findings from a qualitative interview study with seven men who fathered their (now teenage) children in their early 40s to early 50s. Interviews were semi-structured and focused on lived experiences of the participants and their normative stances regarding the topic of parenting at an advanced age. Three themes were identified: The fathers in our sample describe their APA as a result of life events rather than an intentional postponement. Second, they managed how they were perceived as APA-fathers by distancing themselves from 'too old' parents. However, these fathers did not perceive fatherhood at a younger age as better than their current APA. Three fathers, who also had an earlier fatherhood experience, provided a rich account of how they made sense of their fatherhood roles in both families. Third, the seven fathers encountered social stigma, leading to various coping strategies. These findings contribute to better understanding the psychosocial dimension of APA-fatherhood. Lewis argued that although paradoxes such as the famous Grandfather Paradox can be solved, only a limited set of time travel fiction is consistent. In this paper, I discuss how to extend a Lewisian approach to a class of time travel fiction not considered by Lewis: transmigration or mental time travel fiction. To this end, Lewis's definition of personal time needs refining, and this is the primary focus of my paper. I discuss some alternative refinements of Lewis's definition: a Solely Mental definition and a Causal definition. I end by also applying these definitions to cases of reverse aging. Over recent decades, studies investigating cross-modal correspondences have documented the existence of a wide range of consistent cross-modal associations between simple auditory and visual stimuli or dimensions (e.g., pitch-lightness). Far fewer studies have investigated the association between complex and realistic auditory stimuli and visually presented concepts (e.g., musical excerpts-animals). Surprisingly, however, there is little evidence concerning the extent to which these associations are shared across cultures. To address this gap in the literature, two experiments using a set of stimuli based on Prokofiev's symphonic fairy tale Peter and the Wolf are reported. In Experiment 1, 293 participants from several countries and with very different language backgrounds rated the association between the musical excerpts, images and words representing the story's characters (namely, bird, duck, wolf, cat, and grandfather). The results revealed that participants tended to consistently associate the wolf and the bird with the corresponding musical excerpt, while the stimuli of other characters were not consistently matched across participants. Remarkably, neither the participants' cultural background, nor their musical expertise affected the ratings. In Experiment 2, 104 participants were invited to rate each stimulus on eight emotional features. The results revealed that the emotional profiles associated with the music and with the concept of the wolf and the bird were perceived as more consistent between observers than the emotional profiles associated with the music and the concept of the duck, the cat, and the grandpa. Taken together, these findings therefore suggest that certain auditory-conceptual associations are perceived consistently across cultures and may be mediated by emotional associations. The child's capacity for play serves as a vital therapeutic tool as she negotiates the process of becoming her own person. This capacity can, for many of us, remain alive throughout the lifespan in the form of playfulness. Both play and playfulness are considered in this paper in their relationship to aging, with both these constructs permitting us to better live a life of grace and vitality. They are also considered in the context of parenting and, more specifically, grandparenting. A growing literature studies long-term income persistence across more than two generations. Despite a rich understanding of measurementrelated biases for the parent–child model, far less is known for the multigenerational model that captures transmission from parents and grandparents. We show that even using a 25-year income average can result in a spurious grandparent coefficient. Importantly, for a given parental measure, averaging over more years for grandparents increases spillover bias. We propose an instrumental variables (IV) approach that can more effectively mitigate bias with shorter time spans of income. Grandparents are actively involved in grandchildren's lives, but there is little research concerning socio-economic differences in the content of the relationship. This study explores the socio-economic gradient in childcare provided by grandparents, touching on the intensity of care, the activities performed with grandchildren and the motives driving this involvement, by grandparents' gender. We explore two dimensions of socio-economic status, education and family income, pertaining to different dimensions of grandparents' and grandchildren's relationship: child development versus parental childcare needs. Using the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA 2016–2017, 2018–2019), logistic regression models show that intensive care is more common for grandfathers in the lowest income tercile. A high income decreases involvement in physical care activities (i.e. preparing meals); instead, the involvement is driven by motives to help children financially. Higher education is a good predictor of support with homework, driven by motives to 'help grandchildren develop as people'. Even though grandfathers show an involvement in grandchildren's upbringing, highly-educated grandmothers remain the most inclined to offer support. Overall, the study suggests that grandparents' involvement in grandchildren's lives could be among the mechanisms structuring the intergenerational transmission of inequality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Many studies in Western societies show a pattern of discriminative grandparental investment as follows: maternal grandmothers (MGMs) > maternal grandfathers (MGFs) > paternal grandmothers (PGMs) > paternal grandfathers (PGFs). This pattern is in line with the expectation from evolutionary reasoning. Yet whether or not this pattern applies in China is in question. The present study was based on a questionnaire survey at a university in Central China (N = 1,195). Results show that (1) when grandparent–grandchild residential distance during grandchildren's childhood is controlled, in the case of grandsons and granddaughters as a whole and granddaughters only, both grandparental caregiving and grandchildren's emotional closeness to grandparents display a rank order of MGM > MGF > PGM > PGF, but in the case of grandsons only, this order is not statistically significant. (2) There are stable relationships between grandparental caregiving/grandchildren's emotional closeness and residential distance/similarity in appearance. (3) The effects of residential distance on either PGFs' or PGMs' caregiving exceed those on either MGFs' or MGMs'. (4) The PGF and PGM prefer grandsons to granddaughters in their caregiving, whereas the MGF and MGM do not have a sex preference, and (5) the fact that the PGF and PGM invest more in grandsons than in granddaughters does not depend on grandsons' duration of living in a rural area. Our results suggest that (1) in general, the Chinese display a pattern of differential grandparental investment predicted by an evolutionary perspective, (2) the evolutionary perspective that combines the two factors of paternal uncertainty and sex-specific reproductive strategies is applicable to grandparental investment in China, and (3) the traditional son-preference culture also plays some role in affecting grandparental investment in China, though the roles of culture and urban–rural cultural difference should not be exaggerated. This is an interview with Luvada A. Harrison, the granddaughter of Dotts Johnson (1913–86), who was the African American actor and jazz singer cast to portray one of the lead roles in Roberto Rossellini's Paisà(Paisan) (1946), one of the most influential films in the history of cinema. Although Rossellini's film has been thoroughly studied, very little is known about Dotts, not only in Italy but also in the United States. This interview seeks to shed more light on the life and career of Hylan Dotts Johnson, an under-recognized African American actor who was also an accomplished singer and composer. In recent times, global events have starkly illuminated the disturbing absence of ethnic tolerance, thrusting interethnic conflicts into the spotlight and casting shadows over both individual and collective identities. This research focuses on the Holocaust, delving into the annals of history through the lenses of recollection, personal identification, and genetic memory, as portrayed within the pages of the novel Echoes: From the Dead Grandfather to the Deceased. The primary aim is to fathom the gradual erosion of collective historical memory over time and discern its profound significance for future generations. Within this study, an examination of the interplay between the 'collective unconscious' and the 'personal unconscious' is undertaken. Additionally, the novel's utilization of symbols and details is scrutinized. The research employs a multifaceted approach, encompassing historical-genetic, interpretative, narrative, and psychoanalytic methodologies. Through the protagonist's transformative journey, the novel highlights the importance of preserving historical memory and recognizing its lasting impact on individual and collective consciousness. BACKGROUND: Decreasing fertility rates and increasing lifespan affect the time grandparents and grandchildren co-exist. Any changes in the time and length of grandparenthood could alter the quality and the direction of intergenerational exchange. In Italy, a country in which grandparents constitute a fundamental resource for the provision of childcare and where families are the main source of support for individuals, studying grandparents' health evolution is crucial, especially considering the limited evidence available. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to uncover the evolution of disability-free grandparenthood at age 65 between 1998 and 2016 in Italy, analysing changes due to the longevity revolution and to grandparenthood-disability prevalence, with a focus on gender differences. METHODS: Disability-free grandparenthood is estimated for Italy for the years 1998 to 2016 and by gender using the Sullivan method. The linear integral decomposition method is implemented to assess the contribution of changes in mortality and the grandparenthood-disability prevalence on the evolution of disability-free grandparenthood over time. RESULTS: Between 1998 and 2016, Italian grandparents gained disability-free years of life overlapping with their grandchildren. Grandmothers gained 2.6 years (from 9.9 to 12.5 years), and grandfathers 1.8 years (from 8.9 to 10.7 years). Overall, this trend was primarily driven by improvements in health and survival. However, the postponement in the transition to grandparenthood for men slightly slowed down the trend. CONTRIBUTION: This study introduces grandparenthood into the estimation of generation overlap and provides the first evidence of a disability-free grandparenthood trend in Italy, where the health of grandparents is crucial to understanding intergenerational relationships and family dynamics. In this text, Juan García Salazar and Catherine Walsh draw from and extend portions of their conversations begun a number of years ago about the sowing and re-sowing of knowledge and life in the communities of the Colombo-Ecuadorian region-territory of the AfroPacific. The conversation invokes and thinks with a third voice, that of Grandfather Zenón, considered the Grandfather of all those beings who reside in this territory. It is Zenón's voice that expresses and brings to life the words, teachings, and collective memory of the elders past and present, and, in so doing, continues the ancestral plantings, giving meaning and force to the collective philosophies, knowledges, and memory that persist, resist, and re-exist in the AfroPacific and beyond in these present times. The article focuses on the story of Myriam Flax's grandfather, Ernest Cerf, who was hidden in a non-Jewish old-age home in Poitiers during World War II, and later, his reburial in his hometown of Niedervisse, France. Topics discussed include the history of the Cerf family in Niedervisse, the challenges faced by the family during the war, and the remarkable efforts to transfer and reinter Ernest Cerf in a Jewish cemetery.

The following poems from my time at Missouri State University share the theme and goal of working through grief and pain. These poems helped me work through the loss of my grandparents, the loss of a cherished professor from my previous university, and the loss of myself I felt through depressive episodes and previous toxic relationships. In working through my own trauma and specific experiences, I hope to highlight themes and emotions that can connect with people outside of myself and help them feel less alone. This paper focuses on problems for time travel that specifically concern continuous time-travel to the past, problems to do with potential collisions with past obstacles such as former time-slices of the time traveler herself. These problems have not been discussed nearly as much as other questions about time travel, such as the Grandfather Paradox. Here I focus on discussions by Bernstein, Dowe, Grey and Le Poidevin. After examination, I conclude that only the problems of turning around in time have any merit and present a new proposal of my own for turning around in time without collisions. Grandparents have been presented in children's literature mainly as a generational, cultural, and historical legacy. To study whether and how these social and family changes are impacting the image of grandparents in stories for children in Brazil, thirteen stories were selected with a renewed view of grandparents. From the analysis of these stories, it can be observed that there has been a change in the grandmother/grandfather character who is now described as having a body, not only marked by suffering, but also by pleasure, in courtships and remarriages, and by interaction with grandchildren. at the level of democratic complicity. This “new” grandmother is described as active, communicative, present in her grandchildren's lives and collaborative, opposing the image of the traditional grandmother in terms of clothing, habits, behaviors, and attitudes. Parenting is influenced by family relationships, however, very little research has investigated how the relationships fathers have with their own fathers shape fathers’ parenting attitudes and engagement. Intergenerational relationships are particularly relevant among families with strong intergenerational solidarity and interdependence, such as Mexican-origin families. The results based on data from 85 Mexican-origin fathers show more positive parenting attitudes and engagement among fathers reporting high-quality relationships with their fathers at the time of the study, but these associations were only found among fathers with sons. Grandparents' World War Two (WWII) stories are emotionally powerful, intimate accounts of firsthand experience that can shape grandchildren's ideas of state history, nation, and identity. This effect, I argue, manifests most intensively in critical times when national history and identity are threatened. Such was the case when former Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev relayed a controversial version of Macedonian national history and identity in a TV interview. In reaction, many Macedonian citizens shared fragments of their grandparents' WWII stories. This study analyzes several more detailed versions of these grandparents' narratives in order to ascertain the formative power of family WWII stories over one's personal sense of national identity. To do so, it will examine the positioning practices of the present‐day narrators, the grandchildren of WWII participants, focusing on the manners in which they interactively reproduce their own sense of national identity vis‐a‐vis‐these stories. Sándor Weöres's poetry was a life-long passion and source of inspiration for György Ligeti. This article explores the role Weöres played in Ligeti's early development as a composer by providing insight into the genesis of all of his 13 early settings of Weores, including the unpublished choral works Hajnal [Dawn] and Tél[Winter], the incomplete song "Nagypapa leszállt a tóba" [Grandpa descended in the pond], and the unfinished oratorio "Istar pokoljárása" [Ishtar's Journey to Hell], and by making some analytical observations on them. Ligeti's early settings of Weöres were composed in three periods. The first stage in 1946-1947 was his compositional discovery of Weöres's poetry, which seems to have acted as a fuel and a challenge for him, triggering something of a musical self-liberation. His Weöres settings in 1949-1950 may be seen as a sign of solidarity with the poet effectively silenced by Communist state authorities, while in 1952-1955, Weöres texts seem to have served specifically as material for Ligeti's experimentation with static music and serialism.
