Forensic entomology provides a feasible way to estimate postmortem interval （PMI）, of which the growth and development of sarcosaprophagous insects is the most widely used indicator in forensic practice. Over the years, forensic entomologists have carried out a large number of studies on the development biology of sarcosaprophagous insects. This paper illustrates the main factors that affect the development of sarcosaprophagous insects, including temperature, humidity, light, food types and poisons. The development indicators of sarcosaprophagous insects were reviewed from the perspectives of morphology, differential gene expression and biochemical characteristics. It is emphasized that future research of development biology on sarcosaprophagous insects should fully absorb and integrate the methods of artificial intelligence and omics, and the research object also needs further expansion in order to establish a more objective and more accurate PMI estimation method.

When one end of a fluid-filled pipe with an elastic wall is fixed and a harmonic force effect acts on the other end,a steady longitudinal vibration will be produced. Compared to the pipeline resonance mode,the amplitude of the steady longitudinal vibration of an elastic pipe is greater,and the effect on the sound is also greater. The study of the steady longitudinal vibration of pipes can better describe the effects of fluid-filled pipelines on the radiation sound field of the pipe opening. Through the contrast between the analysis calculation of the equivalent beam model and the experimental results,the accuracy of the equivalent beam model for the calculation of the steady longitudinal vibration of pipelines is verified,and a method of isolating the steady longitudinal vibration state is proposed and verified.

AIM: To investigate the effectiveness of panretinal photocoagulation(PRP)combined with intravitreal conbercept(IVC)for patients with different stages of proliferative diabetic retinopathy(PDR).METHODS: Retrospective study. The medical records for 100 patients(100 eyes)with PDR treated with PRP combined with IVC from January 2018 to June 2020 were reviewed, including 34 eyes with early PDR(group A), 43 with high-risk PDR(group B), and 23 with fibrovascular PDR(group C). The baseline information, best corrected visual acuity(BCVA), central macular thickness(CMT), the rate of vitrectomy and retinal detachment of the patients in the three groups at 1, 3, 6mo and the last follow-up after combination treatment were observed.RESULTS: The patients were followed up for 14.60±11.64mo(6-52mo), with a mean age of 54.22 ±9.32 years. We found 15 eyes(15.0%)who underwent vitrectomy after the combination treatment. The vitrectomy rates of the three groups were 2.9% in group A, 13.9% in group B, and 34.7% in group C. We found no instances of retinal detachment after the treatments. Most patients demonstrated improved BCVA and CMT values with the treatments.CONCLUSION: PRP combined with IVC is safe and effective in patients with different PDR stages.

Through the modulation of its surround, an identical visual stimulus can be perceived as more or less salient, allowing it to either stand out or seamlessly integrate with the rest of the visual scene. Gamma rhythms are associated with processing stimulus features across extensive areas of the visual field. Consistent with this concept, the magnitude of visually induced gamma rhythm depends on how well stimulus features aligned both within and outside the classical receptive field (CRF) at the recording site. However, there still exists some uncertainty regarding the encoding of context‐modulated orientation discontinuity by gamma rhythms. To address this concern, we conducted extracellular recordings in layers II/III and IV of area V1 using lightly anaesthetized mice to investigate the gamma tuning for stimuli with orientation discontinuity. Our study revealed that gamma rhythms exhibit a preference for stimuli with orientation discontinuity similar to the spiking responses observed in V1, which contradicts the findings of previous studies. Furthermore, the gamma tuning of discontinuous orientations exhibits a moderate correlation with spike tuning and a positive correlation with the strength of surround suppression. Therefore, our study suggests a close association between gamma tuning and nearby spiking tuning; additionally, it highlights the connection between the encoding of visual features by gamma rhythms and functional architecture, as well as neural signal integration. IntroductionThe clinical manifestations of paragonimiasis are diverse and non-specific, and can easily lead to misdiagnosis. We aimed to analyze the clinical manifestations, laboratory features, treatment, and clinical outcome of children with paragonimiasis in order to improve recognition of this disease and avoid misdiagnosis.MethodsChildren diagnosed with paragonimiasis from August 2016 to July 2022 were included in the study. Information on population informatics, medical history, and laboratory features was extracted from case data. The clinical features of paragonimiasis were retrospectively analyzed.ResultsA total of 45 children were included in this study. All children had, at least, one risk factor. The clinical features mainly included fever, cough, pleural effusion, peritoneal effusion, and subcutaneous nodules. The main imaging findings were alveolar exudation, peritoneal effusion, pleural thickening, and local nodules. The “tunnel sign” finding on computed tomography (CT)/magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was helpful in establishing the diagnosis of paragonimiasis. After praziquantel treatment, most of the children improved, and one child with cerebral paragonimiasis experienced sequelae.ConclusionMost children with paragonimiasis have a good prognosis, but few children can experience sequelae. Avoidance of untreated water and raw food is a simple, feasible, and effective preventive measure.

Hereditary spastic paraplegias (HSP) are inherited neurodegenerative disorders characterized by progressive paraplegia and spasticity in the lower limbs. SPG48 represents a rare genotype characterized by mutations in AP5Z1, a gene playing a role in intracellular membrane trafficking. This study describes a case of a 53-year-old male patient with SPG48 presenting spastic paraplegia, infertility, hearing impairment, cognitive abnormalities and peripheral neuropathy. The Sanger sequencing revealed a homozygous deletion in the chr 7:4785904-4786677 region causing a premature stop codon in exon 10. The patient's brother was heterozygous for the mutation. The brain magnetic resonance imaging found a mild brain atrophy and white matter lesions. In the analysis of the auditory thresholds, we found a significant hearing decrease in both ears.
