In the present investigation, conventional melting techniques were employed to fabricate the fluorophosphate glass composites with a composition of 20NaF–60P 2 O 5 –20Na 2 O–3Fe 2 O 3 (mol.%). An investigation was conducted to analyze the impact of various doses of gamma-ray irradiation on certain optical properties. The alteration in the localized defects caused by gamma irradiation can explain the reduction in the refractive index (n) as the doses of gamma-ray irradiation increase, up to 10 kGy. The results of the solar skin protection factor (SSPF) and solar material protection factor (SMPF) tests demonstrate that the un-irradiated composite offers the highest level of protection against the harmful effects of solar energy on both human skin and materials. Some optical parameters, such as the concentrations of the charge carrier (N opt), the relaxation time (τ), the optical electronegativity (η opt), and the optical mobility (μ opt) showed gamma dose-dependent. The effects of gamma-ray irradiation on the composites were analyzed using Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic studies, both before and after exposure to 10 and 20 kGy. Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) sulfonation process is a reasonably easy but time‐consuming to manufacture composites. This study focuses on altering PEEK powder in a sulfuric acid solution via a sulfonation process to develop sulfonated PEEK (SPEEK) resin for the fiber‐reinforced thermoplastic composite manufacturing and characterization steps. In this study, about 5 wt% PEEK powder was sulfonated in 98% sulfuric acid solution for 12 h at 65°C. The water bath technique was used for the precipitation process to obtain the SPEEK polymer. After proper washing and drying, the SPEEK matrix (resin) was obtained by dissolving it in dimethylformamide in a ratio of 1:2. This resin solution was then used to manufacture thermoplastic Kevlar and glass fiber‐reinforced composites employing wet layup process and cured at an elevated temperature under pressure. These SPEEK composites passed the flame retardancy UL94 test with a V0 rating. The average water contact angle of the glass fiber‐ and Kevlar‐SPEEK composites is 93.67° and 102.24°, respectively. The average tensile strength values of these composites were found 222.22 and 284.35 MPa, correspondingly. The smoke density and toxicity tests of the glass fiber‐SPEEK composite confirmed lower smoke generation with the modifications. Crash boxes are safety elements generally made of metallic materials and mounted on the chassis of vehicles to prevent possible injuries to driver and passengers by absorbing the energy generated during a collision and ensuring integrity of vehicle. In order to save fuel and reduce harmful gases released into the environment, the proportion of metallic materials used in vehicles is decreasing and being replaced by composite materials. While composite materials are as durable as metallic materials, they are preferred because they are lighter. In this study, circular composites consisting of glass (S1), aramid (S2), carbon (S3), and hybrid combinations of aramid‐carbon‐glass (S4), carbon‐glass‐aramid (S5), and glass‐aramid‐carbon (S6), all with epoxy resin matrices, were produced using the vacuum infusion method and investigated. Crush parameters, maximum peak loads and specific energy absorption of hybrid tubes with different fiber types and winding order were compared. S3 tube had the best energy absorption performance among all samples of 257.288 Joules, while the worst energy absorption performance was obtained for S2 tube with 30.944 Joules. Among the hybrid samples, the best result was determined as 166.50 Joule with hybrid S5. Although the energy absorption capacities of hybrid composite tubes were close to each other, they had lower results for energy absorption and specific energy absorption than S1 and S3. For specific energy absorption, as with energy absorption, the best result was obtained with S3, while the lowest result was obtained with S2. Thermoplastic polycarbonate provides minimal structural weight and ductility and is a recyclable material. However, investigation of the characteristics of hybrid composites reinforced with woven glass and polycarbonate sheets is limited. This current study investigated the effect of integration of polycarbonate sheets on glass fiber‐epoxy hybrid composite performance. Non hybrid laminate was fabricated from eight layers of woven glass fiber impregnated with epoxy resin (NG). However, the hybrid samples utilized various symmetric stacking patterns which were made by alternating two processed polycarbonate (PC) sheets with six layers of woven glass fiber embedded with epoxy matrix. The manufacturing was made using the hand layup procedure. Mechanical testing includes compressive, tensile, bearing, and hardness was performed on hybrid and non‐hybrid composites. The results showed that employing PC sheets instead of fibers affect the laminate's strength, ductility, bearing capacity, and hardness. Utilization of PC sheets reduces both compressive and tensile strength. However, an enhancement in tensile, compressive, and bearing failure strain was achieved by 2.5%, 31.25% and 31.7%, respectively with hybrid composite having PC in the skin layers as compared with NG. The extent of failure damage is correlated with the position of the PC sheets in the tested samples. Highlights Environmental hazards caused by the ever‐increasing end‐of‐life (EoL) glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRPs) composite waste is of major concern for the sustainable development of the industry. Compared to land filling or incineration, pyrolysis is one of the most promising environmentally friendly methods of disposal of EoL GFRPs. Pyrolysis not only results in recovery of clean glass fibers but other valuable products, such as oils. However, long processing time at elevated temperature leads to aggravation of already existed surface flaws along with the structural changes. Therefore, thermal conditioning of glass fibers results in severe deterioration of the strength in recovered fibers and hence limiting the use of recovered fibers to low end‐products. In this study, a new strategy was adopted where instead of complete cleaning of the fibers at pyrolysis stage, the fibers were partially oxidized and the complete removal of char from the surface of glass was done during hot alkaline etching. This strategy was opted to enhance the quality of the required fibers while reducing the processing time. The results showed ~200% increase in strength of fibers after the combined treatment of pyrolysis and post etching compared to the just pyrolyzed samples with etching time of just 1 min. End‐of‐life panels of GFRPs were pyrolyzed under inert environment of Argon. Residual char was partially removed through post oxidation under flowing air. Hot alkaline etching resulted in complete removal of char and surface defects. Partial oxidation and short etching cycles resulted in improved strength of recovered glass fibers. This study investigates the potential of natural fibers, commonly used as cost-effective fillers in the plastic industry, as replacements for glass fibers in composite materials. Despite their advantages, these natural fibers possess a strong polar nature, causing compatibility issues with certain thermoplastic platforms, particularly aromatic compounds. Surface-level treatments, though not cost-effective, offer a solution to this issue. This research focuses on optimizing and qualifying two treatment methods, the acetyl method and stearic treatment, applied to two types of flax fibers: long and short. Examining variables such as temperature, treatment duration, and compound recovery, this study employed diffraction and gas chromatography techniques to evaluate treated and untreated fibers. Results revealed that both treatments effectively reduced non-crystalline segments within the fibers, altering surface topography. Notably, the acetyl method increased fiber surface energy, while the stearic treatment decreased it. These findings underscore the significant impact of the acetyl method and stearic treatment on modifying fiber properties, particularly surface characteristics and energy levels. The study sheds light on the potential applications of these treatments in enhancing the compatibility of natural fibers with thermoplastic platforms, despite their inherent polarity. In this study, the effect of fiber angle on the tensile load-bearing performance and damage failure characteristics of glass composite laminates was investigated experimentally, analytically, and numerically. The glass fabric in the laminate was perfectly aligned along the load direction (i.e., at 0°), offset at angles of 30° and 45°, or mixed in different directions (i.e., 0°/30° or 0°/45°). The composite laminates were fabricated using vacuum-assisted resin molding. The influence of fiber orientation angle on the mechanical properties and stiffness degradation of the laminates was studied via cyclic tensile strength tests. Furthermore, simulations have been conducted using finite element analysis and analytical approaches to evaluate the influence of fiber orientation on the mechanical performance of glass laminates. Experimental testing revealed that, although the composite laminates laid along the 0° direction exhibited the highest stiffness and strength, their structural performance deteriorated rapidly. We also determined that increasing the fiber offset angle (i.e., 30°) could optimize the mechanical properties and damage failure characteristics of glass laminates. The results of the numerical and analytical approaches demonstrated their ability to capture the mechanical behavior and damage failure modes of composite laminates with different fiber orientations, which may be used to prevent the catastrophic failures that occur in composite laminates. The goal of this study was to determine the effect of cutting methods on the edges of selected materials applied in structural elements and floor sheathing of unmanned air vehicles. Three cutting methods for MGS L285 epoxy resin composites used for production of unmanned air vehicles manufactured in one of the European companies were presented. Composites reinforced by glass and aramid fibres are approved for certified production of air vehicle elements (AMC-20). Cutting was applied to each material using different technologies, such as: milling, laser cutting and abrasive water jet cutting. The authors focused on the edge quality of the tested specimens cut using various methods. Quality assessment was based on electronic microscopic scanning images and measurement of the specimen maximum damage. In summary, the choice of an appropriate composite cutting method depends on the type of material and its parameters, and it is crucial for the quality of the machined product. The authors focused on determining the selection of parameters for chosen cutting methods and materials used in the military unmanned aerial vehicle industry. Among the conducted tests, the results indicate that better cutting effects are obtained for milling methods in the case of GFRP + L285 (0.143 ± 0.073 µm) and CFRP + L285 (0.072 ± 0.027 µm), and the worst for AFRP + L285 (0.831 ± 0.269 µm). Slicing of material using a thin wire reduces the loss of material and provides better cutting quality compared to any other machining techniques. Moving wire electrochemical spark machining (WECSM) is a hybrid, non-conventional wire slicing process, specially for non-conducting materials such as ceramics, composites and glasses. In this research article, alumina epoxy nanocomposite (AENC) has been taken as a workpiece. AENC is a polymer-based nanocomposite with a property of mixed nature such as ceramics and polymer. Due to its high electrical insulation performance, AENC is in demand in various applications. However, its mixed properties limit the machining capabilities for various applications. In the present work, modelling of the moving WECSM process has been performed using response surface methodology, and GRA with entropy method was applied for finding the optimum set of parameters. The results show that the optimal machining performances for material removal rate, surface roughness and kerf taper were obtained at 55 V applied voltage, 2.5 m/min wire velocity, 200 g/l electrolyte concentration and 200 µs pulse-on time. AbstractThere is a growing demand for natural fibers related to cost and environmental issues. This work focuses on the influence of the stacking sequence and hybridization on the shear strain of sandwich panels with glass/jute composite faces and polyethylene terephthalate foam core. Behavior comparison followed analytical, experimental, and numerical approaches. Failure analyses of the panels were performed numerically using the finite element method, with progressive damage and Hashin failure criterion. The present study used polyphenylene ether/Polypropylene/glass fiber (PPO/PP/GF) composites as the matrix material to obtain the dielectric plate material to be used in the dielectric phase shifters for 5G base stations. First, the reinforcement effect of the compound compatibilizers comprising PP‐g‐MAH and SEBS‐g‐MAH on the PPO/PP/GF composites was investigated. The experimental results revealed that the compound compatibilizers could dramatically improve the compatibility and performance of the PP/PPO/GF composites through synergistic compatibility. Next, the crystallization effect of CaTiO3 fillers on the PPO/PP/GF composites was investigated. The DSC analysis revealed that using a small amount of CaTiO3 promoted the crystallization of PP, while using a large amount of CaTiO3 inhibited the crystallization effect. At a compatibilizer content of 6 wt% and CaTiO3 in the range of 10–85 wt%, the CaTiO3/PP/PPO/GF composite presented a continuously adjustable dielectric constant (εr = 2.32–20.9), low dielectric loss (tanδ < 0.0019), and high heat resistance (VST = 169.5–177°C), and could, therefore, be used as a dielectric plate material in the dielectric phase shifters for 5G base stations. The main objective of this study is to investigate the effect of combining natural and synthetic fibers on the mechanical characteristics of hybrid and novel functionally graded hybrid composites by considering hemp as natural fiber and carbon and glass as synthetic fibers. Before manufacturing, the natural fibers were treated with sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution to remove the impurities on the fiber surface. The fibers were reinforced in an epoxy‐based matrix using a hand‐layup technique. The volumetric fraction of the hybrid composites was 40% fibers and 60% matrix. Different types of composites, such as plain fiber reinforced polymer (FRP), sandwich hybrid (SH), alternative hybrid (AH), and functionally graded hybrid (FH), were manufactured from hybridizations of hemp/carbon and hemp/glass. In accordance with ASTM standards, the tensile, compression, flexural, short beam shear, water absorption, and wettability properties of composites were determined. FH composites with hemp fiber at the top surface had the highest improvement in tensile strength, stiffness and compressive strength compared with pure hemp FRP (HFRP) composites. Hemp SH composites had the highest improvement in flexural and short beam properties in both hybridizations compared with HFRP composites due to the stacking of synthetic fiber at the outer layers. Scanning electronic microscopic (SEM) studies identified the failure mechanism of the tensile failure specimens and also the effect of mercerization on fiber surfaces. In conclusion, this work identified the structural capacity of hybrid composites and emphasizes that FH and hemp SH composites can replace glass FRP composites in structural applications. Fire and mechanical performances of a bio‐based flax/furan resin composite are evaluated and, in order to assess their commercial potential, compared with those of conventional carbon/glass fiber‐reinforced composites. Fire retardant (FR) variants of flax/furan were obtained by adding FRs to the resin and using (i) flax or (ii) FR‐treated flax fabrics. With (i), the fire hazard of the composite could be reduced to minimum, without detrimental effect on the mechanical properties. However, use of FR‐flax fabric (ii) led to impairment of mechanical properties. This indicated that for optimized fire and mechanical properties, use of a FR in the resin matrix suffices; there is no advantage in using a FR‐treated flax fabric. Natural aging of the samples for 10 years followed by water aging indicated that water absorption in flax/furan composites was much higher than in comparable carbon/epoxy composites. While there was evidence of released acidic components such as acetic acid, oxalic acid, and so forth, in flax/furan composites, mainly from oxidative degradation of furan resin, there was no evidence of leaching of FR additives from the matrix. However, FR treatment of flax fabric affected the fiber–matrix interfacial adhesion, leading to considerable water absorption during aging and disintegration of the reinforcement. The present study investigates the mode‐II fracture resistance and interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) in glass epoxy laminates with the aid of glass‐carbon veils hybrid interleaving technique. Hybrid interleaves were prepared using various areal densities of non‐woven carbon and glass veils. Two methods, specifically inter‐ply and inter‐weaved ply interleaved glass epoxy composite laminates were manufactured by hand layup technique. End notch flexural and short beam test specimens were tested to estimate the mode‐II fracture resistance and ILSS. Test results indicated that the interleaved with inter‐weaved veil composite exhibited ~58% to ~82% and ~13% to ~61% enhancement for inter‐ply veil composite laminates when compared to plain samples. In context with the short beam test, a significant enhancement of approximately 23% in ILSS was noticed for the plain inter‐weaved veil constructed with a lower areal density of the carbon veil. Finally, the plain inter‐weaved interleaving technique has a prominent role in enhancing the resistance to fracture and shear strength in Glass epoxy laminates. Further, the fracture mechanisms of non‐interleaved and hybrid ply interleaved composite laminates were observed by scanning electron microscopic images. Liner materials have extensive applications in automobile industry, packaging, and aeronautics. One of the specific uses of such materials is in thermal barrier, coating rockets, missile, and other systems used in space and defense. Each liner material exhibits different properties according to their chemical structure and composition. In this study, accelerated thermal aging of the liner material, silicone‐hollow glass microsphere composite (SHGC) has been studied along with the determination of its life span. The effect of such aging on the thermal properties of SHGC has been studied using thermogravimetry. Activation energy of the process has been determined to be in the range of 45–55 KJmol−1. The results have been compared with already reported silicon polymers. Shelf‐life of SHGC composite has also been determined using Arrhenius model. Stochastic model has been applied to determine the lower and upper limits of shelf‐life. Shelf‐life of SHGC is found to be 24 years with 28 and 18 years of upper and lower error limits. Highlights In this study, high silica fiberglass cloth (HSFC) was prepared using the acid leaching method with E‐fiberglass cloth as the raw material. Following heat treatment and silane coupling agent treatment, the cloth was impregnated with a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) emulsion to fabricate a HSFC/PTFE composite via the hot‐pressing method. The microstructure of the composite and its dielectric properties at a 10 GHz frequency was investigated. To address the interfacial bonding issue of the composite, pre‐sintering treatment and silane coupling agent application were employed, resulting in reduced porosity and increased density of the composite. In particular, the composite treated with KH‐570 silane coupling agent exhibited the lowest porosity, with a dielectric constant of 2.419 and a dielectric loss of 0.0049. This study offers a new direction for expanding the application of high silica glass clothes in high‐performance glass fiber composites. A low dielectric composite was made from high silica fiberglass and polytetrafluoroethylene. Heat treatment reduced hydroxyl groups on the fiberglass surface. Surface modification enhanced interfacial bonding and dielectric properties. Pre‐sintering removed impurities and reduced composite porosity. Materials with zero thermal expansion (ZTE) properties demonstrate remarkable dimensional stability, making them crucial in aerospace, electronics, and various industrial sectors. However, these materials face challenges such as weak mechanical properties and narrow ZTE temperature range. In this study, a novel ZTE metallic glass-based composite (Cu 2 P 2 O 7 /La 65 Al 14 Cu 9.17 Ag 1.83 Ni 5 Co 5) with negative thermal expansion (NTE) reinforcement was prepared using gas pressure infiltration and water quenching. SEM and 3D CT results revealed the dense structure and the non-reactive interface structure. The NTE behaviors resulting from the coupling of CuO 5 and PO 4 polyhedra within the NTE Cu 2 P 2 O 7 are demonstrated to counterbalance the positive thermal expansion in metallic glass. Consequently, the resulting composites exhibit a wide range of zero thermal expansion and high strength properties, presenting a novel approach for creating high-performance ZTE metallic glass-based composites. Highlights Glass fiber‐reinforced resin matrix composites are widely used and studied for their good mechanical and impact resistance properties. In this paper, five glass fiber reinforced nylon 6 (PA6)‐based composites were prepared by mechanical blending combined with the molding process. The flexural strength, shear strength, pendulum impact strength, and low‐velocity impact properties of five composites were comparatively investigated. The crack extension modes of the composites were characterized and analyzed by light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and computerized X‐ray tomography (XCT), and the effects of different crack extension modes on the mechanical and impact resistance properties of the composites were researched. Experimental results show that: (1) Cracks in the composite material mainly exist in two expansion modes: transverse propagation parallel to the direction of fiber layup and longitudinal propagation perpendicular to the direction of fiber layup; (2) Different crack extension modes will cause different damage situations to the composites, however, the crack extension mode has minimal impact on the flexural, shear and pendulum impact strength of the composites; (3) The flexural and shear strengths of the composites co‐reinforced using fly ash and glass fibers were preferably 484.5 and 46.1 MPa; (4) The crack extension mode has a significant impact on low‐velocity impact performances of the composite material. The composite co‐reinforced with glass beads (GB) and glass fibers had the best impact resistance, with maximum impact force (Pmax), residual impact force (Pr), and absorbed energy (Ea) of 7015.2 N, 6273.6 N and 15.4 J, respectively. The propagation of cracks inside the composites was observed using SEM and XCT etc. A relationship between crack propagation mode and low‐velocity impact resistance of composites was established. Transparent, inorganic composite materials are of broad interest, from structural components in astronomical telescopes and mirror supports to solid-state lasers, smart window devices, and gravitational wave detectors. Despite great progress in material synthesis, it remains a standing challenge to fabricate such transparent glass composites with high crystallinity (HC-TGC). Here, we demonstrate the co-solidification of a mixture of melts with a stark contrast in crystallization habit as an approach for preparing HC-TGC materials. The melts used in this approach are selected so that glass formation and crystal precipitation occur simultaneously and synergistically, avoiding the formation of interfacial cracks, residual pores, and delamination effects. Using this method, various unusual hybridized HC-TGC materials such as oxychloride, oxybromide, and oxyiodide composite systems were fabricated in dense, bulk shapes. These materials exhibit intriguing optical properties and neutron response-ability. Using such HC-TGC materials, we develop a neutron detector and demonstrate the application for efficient neutron monitoring and even single neutron detection. We expect that these findings may help to bring about a generation of fully inorganic, transparent composites with synergistic combinations of conventionally incompatible materials. Structural lithium batteries integrated with energy storage and mechanical load‐bearing capabilities hold great promise to revolutionize lightweight transport vehicles. However, the current development of structural batteries faces critical challenges in balancing the electrochemical and mechanical properties of the electrolytes. Herein, a super strong quasi‐solid composite polymer electrolyte (QCPE) is successfully fabricated by reinforcing polyelectrolyte with 3D in situ self‐assembled metal–organic framework‐modified glass fiber (MOF@GF) soaking a small amount of liquid electrolyte, which provides continuous ion conductive pathways for fast Li+ transport and contributes to the high ambient ionic conductivity of 1.47 × 10−3 S cm−1. The micropores and abundant polar functional groups selectively restrict the transport of anions to afford a homogeneous Li+ flux and a high Li+ transference number (0.56). Simultaneously, the MOF@GF provides more effective reinforcement and a remarkably high tensile strength of 48.6 MPa, and Young's modulus of 1.66 GPa is achieved. Furthermore, the lithium metal batteries fabricated with this QCPE exhibit a long, stable operation lifespan of 2000 h and excellent cycling performance with LiFePO4 and NCM811 cathodes. Metallic glasses are a new class of metallic alloys that attract increasing attention in bone implants due to their ultrahigh wear resistance and hardness, high toughness and superior strength. However, their cytotoxicity and biocorrosion resistance are still under investigation. In this research, the cytotoxicity and biocorrosion resistance of iron-based metallic glass composite coating are explored. To approach real-life conditions, the biocorrosion resistance of the proposed coating in phosphate buffer saline (PBS) is evaluated via immersion test for 30 days followed by an electrochemical corrosion test. Then, human bone cells (MG-63) are cultured on corroded samples and the cell viability is determined using MTT assay, in addition to cell attachment examination. The results revealed the formation of a metallic glass composite layer with 78.76% amorphous content. Additionally, the metallic glass composite demonstrated excellent and stable corrosion resistance in PBS over 30 days compared to the substrate. The MTT assay has shown that the cytotoxicity of iron-based metallic glass composite is within the permitted levels according to ISO 10993–5, Part 5 vol 2009. The cells were well attached to the surface besides, showing a healthy growth after 7 days of culture. The present experimental study assesses the mechanical properties of glass/carbon/glass hybrid composite laminates after being exposed to moisture in a deep freezer and elevated temperatures for extended periods. The top and bottom layers of the hybrid laminates are reinforced with glass fibre, and the middle layer is reinforced with carbon fibre using the epoxy matrix as a binder polymer material. The hybrid laminates were manufactured using the resin transfer moulding method, and their compressive and tensile properties were determined using a tensile testing machine. The storage modulus, loss modulus, and damping factors of all groups of laminates were identified using a dynamic mechanical analysis as a function of temperature and vibration frequency. The experimental results on compressive and tensile properties revealed slight variations when the hybrid laminates were kept at low temperatures in a deep freezer for extended periods. This might occur due to the increasing molecular crosslinking of the polymer network. As the testing temperature increased, compressive, tensile, storage modules, loss modulus, and damping factors decreased. This might occur due to the increasing mobility of the binder material. Particularly, the highest stiffness parameters were obtained at −80 °C/GCG (glass/carbon/glass) laminates due to the presence of a beta transition in the glassy region. The relationships between the glass transitions and the targeted frequencies were characterized. The values of the glass transition shift towards higher temperatures as the frequency increases. This might occur due to a reduction in the gaps between the crosslinking of the epoxy network when the frequency increases. The accuracy of the storage modulus results was compared with the empirical models. The model based on the Arrhenius law provided the closest correlation. In the current study, a novel radical‐induced cationic frontal polymerization (RICFP) concept capable of rapid curing at room temperature via visible light irradiation is represented. Initially, the optimal formulation, which can be most effectively cured with visible light irradiation, is determined based on thickness, hardness, curing speed, and mechanical properties using FT‐IR, DSC, TGA, and flexural test methods. Subsequently, the viability of the method is illustrated by fabricating glass fiber‐reinforced composites through the hand lay‐up technique, employing the optimized formulation and glass fibers in various forms (chopped strand mat and biaxial). Mechanical properties of the obtained composites, including bending, tensile, and shear tests, are carried out according to relevant international standards and compared with reference composites thermally cured with amine‐based hardener by conventional method. Long persistent luminescence materials (LPLMs) are promising candidates for various photonic applications, owing to their ability to store light. In spite of advancements in exploring of new LPLMs, the fabrication of transparent centimeter‐sized LPLMs with pre‐designed shapes, high productivity, long afterglow multicolor luminescence, and high chemical stability, is still challenging. Here, high‐throughput manufacture of translucent crystal‐glass composites via a classical injection molding (IM) technique is demonstrated, in which persistent phosphors (PPs)‐amorphous silica nanoparticles‐polymer composites are molded into different shapes then thermally treated at elevated temperatures to obtain glass composites with embedded PP particles and customized shapes. The structural characterizations endorse that the PP particles are preserved during high temperature sintering, and the resultant crystal‐glass composites combine the unique benefits of both PPs and silica glass. Remarkably, the total production time to manufacture 100 pieces of centimeter‐sized crystal‐glass composites is 35 h, thus enabling high‐throughput production of glass composite articles by the IM method. In addition, the injection molded crystal‐glass composites demonstrate long afterglow multicolor luminescence and ultrahigh chemical durability. This study provides a massive production strategy for the fabrication of translucent and stable multicolor persistent luminescent objects with customized shapes, which can be used in numerous applications. Briquettes made from carbonized agricultural residues present sustainable material alternatives to wood charcoal and firewood for commercial and industrial applications. However, these briquettes are plagued by property weaknesses including low drop strength and thermal efficiency. Therefore, this study focuses on enhancing the physical, mechanical and thermal properties of composite briquettes produced from carbonized banana peels and waste glass. Composite briquettes comprised of banana peels biochar and waste glass powder (0%, 5%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50%) were developed, characterized, and evaluated using thermo-gravimetric analysis and bomb calorimetry to determine thermo-physical properties and higher heating values, respectively. The thermal efficiency and emissions (CO, CO2, and PM2.5) were assessed using the water boiling test and an emissions monitoring system. Proximate analysis revealed that moisture content, volatile matter, fixed carbon, and ash content of the developed briquettes ranged from 2.5 to 9.7%, 19.2 to 37.2%, 28.7 to 55.6%, and 7.2 to 44.9%, respectively. Drop strength for the briquettes was 84% without waste glass in the composite, increasing to 94–98% with waste glass included in the composite matrix. Higher heating values ranged from 20.1 to 35.8 MJ/kg. Thermal efficiency rose from 22% with no waste glass powder to 40% with 50% waste glass powder addition, while CO and CO2 emissions decreased from 41 to 11 ppm; and 50 to 15 ppm, respectively. PM2.5 remained constant across all banana peel biochar waste glass composites. Notably, even a modest 10% waste glass composition significantly improved drop strength and thermal efficiency, but higher waste glass percentages correlated with elevated ash values and reduced higher heating values. A recent study showed that generating local crystalline paths within a glassy matrix provides only a moderate increase in thermal conductivity until the path fills most of the total volume. It was indicated that percolation theory governs the thermal conductivity in such crystalline‐implanted glass composites. In this study, we use computer simulations to investigate the effect of partial vitrification by breaking structural order of silica crystals by local vitrification. Such locally vitrified crystal structures are made by the bond‐transposition method, where the extent of vitrification can be tuned. Also, we test melt‐quenching of three SiO2 crystalline structures (α‐quartz, coesite, and stishovite) to make silica glasses with different densities. The cooling rates and pressures were varied during the melting process in order to obtain glass structures with varied degrees of order. Our results show that the thermal conductivity of silica glasses calculated using Green–Kubo relation decreases rapidly as soon as the crystallinity is disturbed by bond transition or generated local glassy phase. This implies the phonon mean free path rapidly shrinks with even a small number of scatterers, regardless of the original polymorph. Through the investigation of the pressure effect, a strong proportional relation between the thermal conductivity and the density is found among all silica samples. Such correlation can be accounted by assuming a constant integral term in the Green–Kubo relation without the volume scaling, which is reasonable based on a weak dependence of κV on the density of silica glass except with a slight increase at low quench pressures. We hypothesize that when the quench pressure increases moderately, an increase of characteristic ring size tends to generate a more flexible SiO2 structure which results more phonon scattering. Highlights Basalt fibers, known as “green materials without pollution in the 21st century”, have gained widespread attention due to its good mechanical properties. Basalt fiber‐based composites have applications in various fields such as construction, transportation, energy, and protection. However, as an inorganic fiber material, basalt fiber is hard and brittle and prone to catastrophic failure, reducing the safety of the material. Therefore, it is important to strengthen the toughness of basalt fiber‐based composites. This paper reviews the contributions made by researchers in recent years to enhance the toughness of basalt fiber reinforced composites. It mainly focuses on four aspects: physical and chemical modification of fibers surface, mixed application of multiple fibers, different textile and 3D printing technology, and design of biomimetic structures. Through these methods, the toughness of basalt fiber‐reinforced composite materials was increased by 10%–90%. In today's advocacy for green industrial development, the research and application of basalt fibers are very important for advancing the process of green development. These contributions can promote the application of basalt fiber in engineering fields. Basalt fiber is a green material without pollution. Highlights Hybrid kenaf/glass fiber reinforced polymer composites have emerged as promising structural materials, garnering significant attention due to their unique blend of natural kenaf fibers and synthetic glass fibers. However, despite their potential, there remains a gap in the comprehensive understanding of their quasi‐static mechanical behavior, creep resistance, and fatigue performance. This paper addresses this gap by presenting recent advancements in studying these key properties of hybrid composites. Studies reveal that the combination of kenaf and glass fibers results in enhanced tensile, flexural, and impact strengths compared to individual fiber composites. Additionally, the hybridization offers improved creep resistance, with the glass fibers reinforcing the polymer matrix against deformation under sustained loads. By elucidating the interplay between kenaf and glass fibers, this review underscores the potential of hybrid composites in various structural applications. Highlights Owing to the outstanding properties of boron carbide (B4C) particles, material researchers have shown potential in filler‐reinforced polymer composites. The present work studied the implication of B4C fillers on the mechanical and ballistic properties of glass fiber epoxy reinforced composites. Two different weight percentages of 2 and 4 wt% B4C fillers were used to modify the epoxy resin. The composite samples with glass fabric woven were made through compression molding. The results show that the tensile, flexural, interlaminar, impact strength and hardness of glass fiber composite were improved by addition of 2 wt% of B4C. The high‐velocity ballistic tests were conducted on the unfilled and B4C filler‐reinforced composites using a 9 mm parabellum projectile with an initial striking of 372 ± 15 m/s. The least back face signature (BFS) and highest specific energy absorption (SEA) were observed for 2 wt% B4C filler composite. Adding B4C filler enhanced matrix toughening and interfacial bonding between fiber and matrix. Matrix cracking and fiber breakage result in the least ballistic resistance for unfilled composite. Fracture behavior was studied on tensile, impact, and ballistic‐tested samples using scanning electron microscopy. The fractured surfaces of filler‐reinforced composite demonstrated good interfacial bonding, matrix hardening, and fiber pullouts. The addition of B4C with epoxy up to 2 wt% improves the mechanical and ballistic properties of the composites. Highlights The mechanical properties of the carbon fiber and glass fiber composite honeycomb sandwich structure were studied through compression experiments. The influence of different aluminum honeycomb edge lengths, upper and lower panel thickness, aluminum honeycomb thickness, and loading speed on the compression failure load of carbon fiber composite laminates sandwich structure is analyzed. In recent years, laminate veneer restorations should be considered as a minimally invasive treatment option for several aesthetic reasons. This study compared direct composite veneers' and indirect ceramic laminate veneers' longevity in multiple diastema closures. A total of 28 patients with a mean age of 26 years received 60 direct resin composite (Estelite Asteria; n = 14) and 60 indirect ceramic veneers (IPS e.max Press; n = 14) on the maxillary anterior teeth with diastema closure. Veneers were evaluated at baseline and thereafter every 6 months for up to 2 years using USPHS criteria. Data were analyzed with Fisher's exact and chi-squared tests, while Kaplan–Meier curve was used to assess time to event. In total, three failures were observed in the form of debonding (n = 1) and fracture (n = 2) in the indirect ceramic veneers. No significant difference was observed between the survival rates of composite and ceramic veneers (Estelite Asteria: 93.4%, IPS e.max Press: 95%; p > 0.05). The overall survival rate was 94.2% (Kaplan–Meier). Staining (n = 11) and roughness (n = 14) were frequently observed for the resin composite veneers up to the final recall. Thereby, the preliminary results from this clinical trial comparing two veneer materials indicated that their survival rates were statistically similar. Several therapeutic approaches have been developed to promote bone regeneration, including guided bone regeneration (GBR), where barrier membranes play a crucial role in segregating soft tissue and facilitating bone growth. This study emphasizes the importance of considering specific tissue requirements in the design of materials for tissue regeneration, with a focus on the development of a double-layered membrane to mimic both soft and hard tissues within the context of GBR. The hard tissue-facing layer comprises collagen and zinc-doped bioactive glass to support bone tissue regeneration, while the soft tissue-facing layer combines collagen and chitosan. The electrospinning technique was employed to achieve the production of nanofibers resembling extracellular matrix fibers. The production of nano-sized (~116 nm) bioactive glasses was achieved by microemulsion assisted sol-gel method. The bioactive glass-containing layers developed hydroxyapatite on their surfaces starting from the first week of simulated body fluid (SBF) immersion, demonstrating that the membranes possessed favorable bioactivity properties. Moreover, all membranes exhibited distinct degradation behaviors in various mediums. However, weight loss exceeding 50% was observed in all tested samples after four weeks in both SBF and phosphate-buffered saline (PBS). The double-layered membranes were also subjected to mechanical testing, revealing a tensile strength of approximately 4 MPa. The double-layered membranes containing zinc-doped bioactive glass demonstrated cell viability of over 70% across all tested concentrations (0.2, 0.1, and 0.02 g/mL), confirming the excellent biocompatibility of the membranes. The present work deals with analyzing the effect of silicon dioxide on mechanical and thermal stability of hybrid polymer composite. Compression molding is adopted to develop the hybrid composite with constant 0.5 wt.% of graphene and varying wt.% of silicon dioxide (2, 4 & 6 wt.%). Modified hummers method is used to synthesis graphene by chemical exfoliation of graphene from graphite flakes. Mechanical properties of developed composite is investigated using tensile, flexural, impact and interlaminar shear testing follow by fracture surface analysis of tested samples. Thermal stability is examined by thermogravimetric analysis and functional group confirmation is carried out using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Investigation over mechanical properties of fabricated composite reveals that addition of silicon dioxide up to 4 wt.% depicted higher flexural and tensile strength. Increment in silicon dioxide percentage improves the toughness of composite. FTIR results confirms the presence of asymmetric stretching vibrations due the after effect of hybrid fillers. Multifunctional materials that combine antimicrobial properties with the ability to stimulate bone formation are needed to overcome the problem of infected bone defects. As a novel approach, a new composite based on bioactive glass nanoparticles in a simple system of SiO2–CaO (BG) coated with NH4[Cu3(μ3-OH)(μ3-4-carboxypyrazolato)3] (Cu-MOF) with additionally anchored silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) was proposed. Ag@Cu-MOF@BG obtained by the spin coating approach in the form of a disc was characterized using PXRD, ATR-FTIR, XPS, ICP-OES, and TEM. Importantly, the material retained its bioactivity, although ion exchange in the bioactive glass administered as a disc is limited. Hydroxyapatite (HA) formation was identified in TEM images after 7 days of immersion of the composite in a physiological-like buffer (pH 7.4, 37 °C). The Cu and Ag contents of Ag@Cu-MOF@BG were as low as 0.013 and 0.018 wt% respectively, but the slow release of the AgNPs ensured its antibacterial nature. Ag@Cu-MOF@BG exhibited antibacterial activity against all tested bacteria (E. coli, S. aureus, P. aeruginosa, and K. pneumoniae) with the diameter of the inhibition zones of their growth between 8 and 10 mm and the reduction index determined to be ≥3. Moreover, the biocompatibility of the new composite has been demonstrated, as shown by cell culture assays with human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs). The results from the migration test also proved that the HDF cell's phenotypic properties were not changed, and the cell adhesion and migration ability were the same as in control indirect assays. An innovative approach was adopted to improve the energy storage and dielectric properties of Bi 0.5 Na 0.5 TiO 3 (BNT) ceramics by incorporating a glass additive. The chosen Na 2 O–Bi 2 O 3 –TiO 2 –P 2 O 5 (NBTP) glass shares a similar atomic composition to minimize any alteration of the crystalline structure and the build-up of impurities. Simultaneously, we investigate the feasibility of offsetting Bi and Na losses during the synthesis process. XRD and Rietveld refinement analysis confirmed the formation of pure BNT phases with no secondary phases. Dielectric parameters were evaluated in the frequency range of 1 Hz to 1 MHz, over a wide temperature range of 30 °C–270 °C, showing minimal variation in their values for the composites with lower glass content. Our findings indicate a notable reduction in grain size and the sintering temperature with improved relative density, leading to enhanced energy storage and efficiency in BNT-based ceramics. The composite with 2.5 wt% glass content shows the highest recovered energy of 154.9 mJ/cm3 with an energy efficiency of 88.64 %, making it particularly promising for advanced capacitor technology. A study was conducted on the changes in mechanical properties and fatigue failure characteristics due to voids, one of the fabrication defects in composite materials. This study was primarily based on glass fiber fabrics applied to wind turbine blades and their material properties were predicted through micro and meso modeling of composite materials by simulating random defects including voids. As the wind turbine blades become larger, various defects develop. The fundamental changes in the materials' properties due to voids were predicted through homogenization methods and Representative Volume Element (RVE), and the failure properties were obtained through progressive failure analysis by applying virtual coupons according to ASTM D3090 and ASTM D6641. The progressive failure was identified using the Matzenmiller–Lubliner–Taylor (MLT) failure condition, and the fatigue failure characteristics were assessed through the Tsai–Hill 3D load. Highlights This experimental work involves characterization and fractography of a bio‐based epoxy and an in‐situ polymerisable thermoplastic polymer matrix based non‐crimp glass and carbon fiber composites under compressive loading. The laminates are characterized under compression loading using a combined loading compression (CLC) fixture. Laminates made using the thermoplastic matrix exhibit higher compressive strength (approx. 20% along fiber direction) compared to the bio‐epoxy based laminates. Further, both composites exhibit comparable compressive modulus characteristics. The tested composites are subjected to fractography analysis using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Computed tomography (CT). SEM results indicate a difference in fiber‐matrix interface characteristics between the thermoplastic matrix and the bio‐epoxy matrix. Additionally, the CT scans reveal a difference in failure modes due to fiber orientations. A difference between failure mode of the exterior and interior plies of the specimens was also noticed. However, no specific influence of matrix type was observed on the overall macroscopic failure behavior. Bio‐epoxy and thermoplastic based laminates were characterized in compression. Post‐test fractography was performed using SEM and x‐ray CT scans. Use of thermoplastic matrix exhibits better fiber‐matrix adhesion compared to bio‐epoxy. Here we describe the synthesis of a compositional series of metal–organic framework crystalline-inorganic glass composites (MOF-CIGCs) containing ZIF-8 and an inorganic phosphate glass, 20Na2O–10NaCl–70P2O5, to expand the library of host matrices for metal–organic frameworks. By careful selection of the inorganic glass component, a relatively high loading of ZIF-8 (70 wt%) was achieved, which is the active component of the composite. A Zn⋯O–P interfacial bond, previously identified in similar composites/hybrid blends, was suggested by analysis of the total scattering pair distribution function data. Carbon fiber-reinforced polymers are widely used in space applications since they combine outstanding mechanical properties with low material density. However, the development of composite components involves raw materials that are becoming increasingly scarce and contributes significantly to carbon emissions during the manufacturing process. Indeed, the fabrication of fibers is energy-intensive and requires very high temperatures, high costs, and usually precursor materials derived from fossil fuels. In addition to the negative environmental impact due to the manufacturing process, there are critical issues related to the disposal of components fabricated using carbon/glass fiber composites. Therefore, the use of efficient recycling strategies becomes necessary, according to economic reasons and legislation. The recycled fibers exhibit different properties from virgin fibers, generally lower, due to adverse effects of the current recycling methods. In this study, we investigated the potential application of recovered carbon fibers in satellite platforms, using recycled fibers from our laboratory obtained with a subcritical solvolysis method that we have previously developed. Composite materials reinforced with recycled and virgin carbon fibers were exposed to UV-C, and the effects of irradiation were analyzed in terms of structural performance, surface morphology, and chemical modifications of the samples. The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of the Kovar glass content on the mechanical and electrical properties of Si3N4–Kovar composites sintering at air atmosphere. To achieve this, Si3N4–Kovar composites were prepared using molding technology with the Kovar glass powder ranging from 20 to 70 wt%. The phase composition, morphology, bulk density, apparent porosity, flexural strength at room temperature, dielectric constant, and dielectric loss of the composites were all examined in relation to changing the Kovar glass content. During the sintering process, the α‐quartz on the surface of Si3N4 particles acted as the crystal nucleus, inducing the crystallization of the glass at the wetting position that the Kovar glass and the surface of the Si3N4 particles. A small amount of the β‐quartz phase was crystallized at 750–850°C, followed by a large amount of the β‐quartz phase crystallizing above 900°C. Additionally, some β‐quartz phase transformed into the metastable β‐cristobalite phase that could exist below 1470°C. During the cooling process, the β‐cristobalite phase transformed into a low‐temperature α‐cristobalite phase, while the β‐quartz phase transformed into a low‐temperature α‐quartz phase. The results indicate that the Si3N4–Kovar glass composite with 60 wt% the Kovar glass content sintered at 900°C exhibits higher density (1.88 g/cm3), lower porosity (25.4%), higher flexural strength (55.34 MPa), lower dielectric constant (3.46), and lower dielectric loss (4.26 × 10−3). The drilling of composite structure leads to its damage, near the peripheral areas of the drilled hole, due to the laminar structure of the composites. The goodness of a drilling process can be evaluated by measuring the extent of the damage caused by it. In the present study, lock-in thermography non-destructive inspection method is proposed to characterise the drilling damages in glass fiber–reinforced polymer panel. A semi-automated image processing methodology is proposed to calculate damage parameters, namely delamination area and size, and delamination factor. The effect of excitation frequency on the damage characterisation is studied to decide the optimum frequency range to measure the damage parameters through signal-to-noise ratio and damage visibility. This study aimed to evaluate the mechanical characteristics and application of e-waste as a filler for glass fiber composites made of S and E (e-waste + S E). Metal, printed circuit boards, integrated circuits, diodes, and transistors were separated from the e-waste filler during milling. S and E glass fiber, epoxy, and filler were utilized in proportions of 10%, 10%, and 70%, respectively, on a volume basis. The hand lay-up technique was used to construct composite specimens. Scanning electron microscope analysis was used to gauge how filler loading affected the morphology of composite materials. The composite has a compressive strength of 23.760 MPa, which is 69.71% higher than the Geo poly composite. The tensile strength of this composite is withstood up to 16.078 MPa. It has 53% better tensile properties than Sunflower Husk composites with the same operating conditions. It gives a resistance up to 42 D during hardness test to withstand. It was 15.6% better than the NF30% epoxy composite specimen. The e-waste + S E composite gives a great opposite force of up to 2 kJ on the impact load test.; it was 86.9% higher than fly ash epoxy composites. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The effect of hybridization on vibration response of carbon/glass hybrid composite laminates are studied using the analytical and the numerical models. For this purpose, nine hybrid types of the four-layer hybrid composite laminates are performed in this paper. The first-order shear deformation theory and the higher-order shear deformation theory based on the energy method are utilized. The equations of motion and boundary conditions are derived from Hamilton's principle and Navier solution. Numerical examples are presented to validate the accuracy and reliability of the adopted analytical methods. A good agreement is observed between the current results and FEA ones. The influence of the stacking sequences on the positive/negative hybrid effect is studied. Moreover, the influences of stacking sequences, material properties, and geometries on the vibration response are also studied in detail. The results reveal that the natural frequencies increase with the hybrid ratios due to the increasing stiffness of the hybrid laminates. Moreover, the positive effect of hybrid laminates can only be achieved by arranging the CFRP on the exterior surfaces. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aims to assess the hybridization effect on the perforation threshold of Low-Velocity Impact (LVI) in thermoplastic glass composite laminates, incorporating layers of resin-impregnated stainless-steel mesh. Reinforcing methodologies such as hybridization are recently being adopted as a practical approach to increasing the energy-absorbing capacity of polymer composites. In the current paper, a multi-step hot press lamination method has been employed to fabricate the hybrid composite laminates strengthened with stainless-steel mesh layers. Several stacking sequences, metal mesh wire sizes, orientation and position relative to the impactor have been examined under various LVI energies. It was revealed that the LVI penetration energy was increased for the thermoplastic-based composite laminates reinforced with stainless-steel mesh layers. Furthermore, the LVI penetration energy threshold was significantly influenced by the metal mesh wire size, orientation and stacking sequence. The effect of the mechanical abrading method on the bonding surface characteristics and fracture response of glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) composite adhesively bonded joints was investigated. Double cantilever beam specimens were manufactured by bonding GFRP substrates with an epoxy adhesive to evaluate the mode-I adhesive joint fracture response. The bonding surfaces were treated with degreasing and abrading methods utilizing sandpapers with various grit sizes ranging from P60 to P800. The results showed that the sandpaper grit size can considerably change the bonding surface properties comprising the surface energy, roughness, morphology, and water drop contact angle and consequently, it can affect the joint fracture behavior. Reducing the sandpaper grit size continuously increased the surface roughness but there were optimum values for the surface energy and water drop contact angle. The fracture resistance of adhesive joints followed the trend of bonding surface energy as the higher the bonding surface energy, the higher the joint fracture resistance. The fracture energy and load-bearing capacity of adhesive joints were improved by 62 and 34%, respectively, when the joint bonding surfaces were abraded with P240. However, further reducing the sandpaper grit size to P60 caused a decrease in the fracture energy and load-bearing capacity of adhesive joints by 18 and 44%, respectively, compared to the joint with degreased and non-abraded bonding surfaces. In this work we investigated new different glass compositions 20PbO–20BaO–(60 − x)B2O3–xZnO (x = 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 mol%) to study the radiation shielding capability of these glass composites. The shielding ability was measured experimentally using narrow beam method (which including HPGe detector, point sources and lead collimators). The accuracy was verified by XCOM software, the linear attenuation coefficient (LAC) of the produced glasses was ascertained using both methods. We noticed that the B40Z20 glass composite (contain 20 mol%) has the highest LAC at the four examined energies (0.060, 0.662, 1.173 and 1.333 MeV) since the LAC enhances as the ZnO content increases from 0 to 20 mol%. The based shielding parameters such as HVL and RSE or called radiation shielding efficiency were determined experimentally. The HVL reduces as the glasses' density (or, more accurately, the amount of ZnO) increases. At 0.06 MeV, the HVL have the following values: 0.041, 0.039, 0.038, 0.036 and 0.035 cm for the glasses with density of 3.582, 3.739, 3.897, 4.055 and 4.212 g/cm3 respectively. To expand the applications of hybrid fiber composites in structural engineering applications, it is essential to study their fatigue behavior. The tensile and fatigue performance of unidirectional hybrid basalt/glass epoxy composites made with vacuum‐assisted resin infusion molding are investigated in this research. The sequencing influence on tensile properties was assessed using the two configurations of basalt/glass fiber epoxy hybrid fiber composites, namely GBBBG and BGBGB, having nearly equal volume fractions. According to the test results, hybrid fiber composites showed a positive hybrid effect on their tensile strength. Both hybrid layups showed higher tensile strengths (3.5% to 10.5%) than GFRPs and BFRPs. The GBBBG laminate has slightly higher fatigue resistance than BGBGB laminate under tension–tension (T–T) fatigue. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images verify the fatigue failure modes, which include fiber, matrix cracking, delamination, and debonding. The DMA analysis showed the lower adhesion efficiency of hybrid fiber composites, signifying lower damping properties. The shielding of gamma radiation is of the utmost importance in industries, such as nuclear power plants, medical imaging, and space exploration. For the purpose of shielding objects in such an environment, it is essential to design materials with flexibility as well as high shielding capability. In order to enhance the radiation attenuation effectiveness of polymers, such as polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), glass has been blended with varying percentages. The fabricated composite has been subjected to gamma-ray interaction studies. The radiation shielding parameter, such as mass attenuation coefficient (μ/ρ), has been determined for various energies, such as 137Cs (661.6 keV) and 60Co (1173 and 1332 keV). It is observed that the PVA composite with glass exhibits improved gamma radiation shielding properties compared to PVA. Therefore, the present work paves the way for the utility of PVA polymer with glass, offering a cost-effective and sustainable approach to gamma radiation shielding in radiation environments.
