Key messageGRF-GIF chimeric proteins from multiple source species enhance in vitro regeneration in both wild and cultivated lettuce. In addition, they enhance regeneration in multiple types of lettuce including butterheads, romaines, and crispheads. The ability of plants to regenerate in vitro has been exploited for use in tissue culture systems for plant propagation, plant transformation, and genome editing. The success of in vitro regeneration is often genotype dependent and continues to be a bottleneck for Agrobacterium-mediated transformation and its deployment for improvement of some crop species. Manipulation of transcription factors that play key roles in plant development such as BABY BOOM, WUSCHEL, and GROWTH-REGULATING FACTORs (GRFs) has improved regeneration and transformation efficiencies in several plant species. Here, we compare the efficacy of GRF-GIF gene fusions from multiple species to boost regeneration efficiency and shooting frequency in four genotypes of wild and cultivated lettuce (Lactuca spp. L.). In addition, we show that GRF-GIFs with mutated miRNA 396 binding sites increase regeneration efficiency and shooting frequency when compared to controls. We also present a co-transformation strategy for increased transformation efficiency and recovery of transgenic plants harboring a gene of interest. This strategy will enhance the recovery of transgenic plants of other lettuce genotypes and likely other crops in the Compositae family.

Na $\ddot {i}$ ve simulated additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) may not fully characterize the complexity of real world noisy images. Owing to optimal sparsity in image representation, we propose a curvelet based model for denoising real-world RGB images. Initially, the image is decomposed in three curvelet scales, namely: the approximation scale (that retains low-frequency information), the coarser scale and the finest scale (that preserves high-frequency components). Coefficients in the approximation and finest scale are estimated using NLM filter, while a scale dependent threshold is adopted for signal estimation in the coarser scale. The reconstructed image in spatial domain is further processed using Guided Image Filter (GIF) to suppress the ringing artifacts due to curvelet thresholding. The proposed approach known as CTuNLM method is extended for color image denoising using uncorrelated YUV color space. Extensive experiments on multi-channel real noisy images are conducted in comparison with eight sate-of-the-art methods. With four encouraging qualitative and quantitative measures including PSNR and SSIM, we found that CTuNLM method achieves better denoising performance in terms of noise reduction and detail preservation. We further examined the potential of proposed approach by focusing only on the Finest scale curvelet Coefficients (FC). Features like small details, edges and textures always add up to improve the overall denoising performance, while minimizing spurious details. We studied “The Curious Case of the Finest Scale” and constructed “Deep Curvelet-Net”: an encoder-decoder-based CNN architecture, as a pilot work. The encoder uses multiscale spatial characteristics from noisy FC, while the decoder processes de-noised FC under the supervision of encoder’s multiscale spatial attention map. The “Deep Curvelet-Net” links encoder multiscale feature modeling with decoder spatial attention supervision to learn the most essential features for denoising. The CNN-based architecture only estimates FC, while all other CTuNLM stages are left unchanged to produce the denoised output. Results presented in this article validated the design of proposed CNN architecture in curvelet domain and motivated us to search beyond classical thresholding and/or filtering approaches.

Due to constant technological progress, the conclusion of electronic contracts has become common. Thus, electronic signatures are used to identify the parties and to express their agreement regarding the content of the contract. The use of these electronic signatures led to emojis being used in electronic contracts. The judicial cases in which these types of electronic signatures are apparently used, must be analyzed, as it is necessary to determine the probative power of the electronic document that contains this specific signature. We would also like to mention that a theoretical analysis of GIF files and phone numbers as electronic signatures is necessary in order to prevent certain legal interpretation problems that might arise in future litigation. This article explores how uncanny feelings may derive from ways in which a medium operates, from its mediality. Consistent with the main source of uncanny feelings identified by Ernst Anton Jentsch and later elaborated on by Sigmund Freud, tensions between the inanimate and the animate are at the centre of the exploration. Such tensions, the article proposes, are implicitly or explicitly intermedial. The malleability of photographic imagery boosted by the computational revolution remaking photographic technology and practices allow for ever more forms of hybrid mediality in which intermedial tensions operate. The proliferation of such tensions suggests that we are likely to see more uncanny mediality in the time ahead. Our uncanny future may further be strengthened by the increasingly autonomous operations of machine learning algorithms that in part relocate agency from humans to machines.

The study utilized a quasi-experimental method of the pretest-posttest design with pre-selected groupings for the control and experimental groups. The study used validated researcher-constructed questionnaires to determine the student’s performance during the experimentation. A pretest was implemented for both groups prior to the implementation of the proposed interventions, with the experimental group exposed to online lectures with GIF-Enhanced Instructional Materials, while the control group utilized conventional online lectures. After the implementation of both interventions, a posttest was administered, and an attitude survey toward Chemistry. The findings showed that both groups had a significant improvement in terms of their performance from the pretest to the posttest, but the significant difference between the mean gains of both groups favored the experimental group. The experimental group was positive about the use of GIF in teaching Chemistry, while the control group somewhat agreed on the positive impact of Chemistry, while the experimental group agreed. In conclusion, using GIFs in online lectures proved to be more effective and impactful than conventional online lectures.

Growth regulatory factors (GRF) are plant-specific transcription factors that play pivotal roles in growth and various abiotic stresses regulation. However, adaptive evolution of GRF gene family in land plants are still being elucidated. Here, we performed the evolutionary and expression analysis of GRF gene family from seven representative species. Extensive phylogenetic analyses and gene structure analysis revealed that the number of genes, QLQ domain and WRC domain identified in higher plants was significantly greater than those identified in lower plants. Besides, dispersed duplication and WGD/segmental duplication effectively promoted expansion of the GRF gene family. The expression patterns of GRF gene family and target genes were found in multiple floral organs and abundant in actively growing tissues. They were also found to be particularly expressed in response to various abiotic stresses, with stress-related elements in promoters, implying potential roles in floral development and abiotic stress. Our analysis in GRF gene family interaction network indicated the similar results that GRFs resist to abiotic stresses with the cooperation of other transcription factors like GIFs. This study provides insights into evolution in the GRF gene family, together with expression patterns valuable for future functional researches of plant abiotic stress biology. GIF scholarship largely focuses on GIF use in online spaces such as Tumblr, but few studies explore the motivations of GIF users in other communicative contexts, like text messaging or messaging apps. Through employing a combination of Q methodology and uses and gratifications (U&G) theory, this study explores why individuals use GIFs in their everyday communication. Three groups of GIF users were identified in the analysis: (a) GIF enthusiasts, (b) searchers and (c) referentialists. Subsequently, the motivations, attitudes and opinions of each group for using GIFs were explored by supplementing the quantitative data with qualitative responses that emerged from interviews with the participants. Although each group had motivations for using GIFs that mirrored previous scholarship – communicative power, emotive quality, humor, technical affordances and cultural connection – an additional motivator (i.e., relationship maintenance) emerged. As GIF scholarship develops, the present study will provide a foundational understanding of GIFs from a user perspective rather than from studies that were drawn from online spaces. GIFs, short audio-free loops of moving sequences, are active members of social semiotic resources in the era of Internet 2.0 that could generate humor, mediate power and signal identity. This paper proposes the perspective of visual nominalization and visual telicity as GIF properties that, in the environment of social media technologies, become capable of expressing polyphonic evaluation, transcontexualized polysemy, and dual deixis. Visual nominalization expresses the freeing of movement from integration into a time-dependent narrative and the abstraction resulting in deemphasized participants and emphasized processes. These traits are activated and realized by visual telicity, which is looping movement that can be conceptualized as an atelic visual container which packages and expresses both telic and atelic processes. This paper argues that visual nominalization and visual telicity are what establishes GIFs’ semiotic differences from still images and film videos, and facilitates their integration with written language in online and computer-mediated discourse.

Image processing techniques are applied on various kinds of images such as medical images, microscopy images and remote sensing images for improving the visual qualities of these images as their credibility is questioned because of poor visibility, contrast, acquired noise etc. Image enhancement is necessary for removing the visual ailment of these images. Guided image filter (GIF) has been a suitable filter for image contrast enhancement, but the controlling parameters are taken as constant values in the conventional GIF. These control parameters vary for different kind of images; therefore, require manual tuning and adjustment which is often cumbersome, time‐consuming. The proposed work modifies the existing GIF by incorporating performance improvement in terms of optimal selection of control parameters. Thus, a novel optimized guided image filter (OGIF) is developed with the help of particle Swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. The design methodology involves contrast and edge enhancement of the images which helps in accurate detection of region of interest (ROI) as well as noise removal. OGIF automatically adjusts the value of the controlling parameters in an optimal manner on which the detection of ROI is the most dependants. Image quality assessment (IQA) of enhanced images has been carried out using measurement of enhancement (EME), peak signal‐to‐noise ratio (PSNR in dB), measure of enhancement error using entropy (EMEE), standard deviation (SD) and entropy. Contagious ecthyma is a highly contagious viral disease with zoonotic significance caused by orf virus (ORFV) that affects domestic, ruminants and humans. Live attenuated virus and attenuated tissue culture vaccines are widely used in the fight against ORFV, however, the conventional attenuated vaccine strains have many drawbacks. The aim of this project was to construct a promising contagious ecthyma vaccine strain with safety, high protection efficacy and accessibility by genetic manipulation to against the disease. Using a natural ORFV-GS14 strain as the parental virus, recombinant virus, rGS14-DCBP-DGIF, with double deletions in the genes encoding the chemokine binding protein (CBP) and granulocyte/macrophage colonystimulating factor inhibitory factor (GIF) was generated and characterized in vitro and in vivo. Results showed that the growth kinetics curve of rGS14-DCBP-DGIF and parental virus was consistent, both reaching plateau phase at 48 h post infection, which indicated that the double deletion of cbp and gif genes had little impact on the replication properties of the recombinant virus in primary goat testis (PGT) cell cultures compared with the parental virus. The safety of the double gene-deleted virus was evaluated in lambs. The lambs were monitored for 21 days post infection of the recombinant virus and no ORFV associated symptoms were observed in 21 days post-infection except for slight fever and anorexia in 5 days post-infection, and all lambs inoculated with either recombinant virus or PBS exhibited no clinical signs. To assess the protection efficacy of the rGS14-DCBP-DGIF, groups of four lambs each were inoculated with rGS14-DCBP-DGIF, rGS14-DCBP, rGS14-DGIF or PBS and challenged by a wild type virulent ORFV strain that was isolated from proliferative scabby lesions tissues of infected goat at 21-day post-inoculation. During 14 days post-challenging, lambs inoculated with rGS14-DCBP-DGIF all remained healthy with unimmunized group all infected, while the single genedeleted viruses only protected 40% to 50% animals. These results indicated that the double gene-deleted recombinant virus could provide complete protection against virulent ORFV challenging. In conclusion, the double gene-deleted recombinant virus strain, rGS14-DCBP-DGIF, would be a promising candidate vaccine strains with safety, high protection efficacy and availability. Plant growth and development are dependent on complex regulatory networks to adapt various environments. The growth regulatory factor (GRF) and GRF-interacting factor (GIF) families have been shown to control growth in various plant species. There are growing evidences that GRFs and GIFs can improve crop genetic transformation efficiency. In this study, we identified and classified 17 ZmGRFs, 10 SiGRFs, 4 ZmGIFs and 3 SiGIFs in maize (Zea mays L.) and foxtail millet (Setaria italica L.) using updated genome data. Many ABREs (Abscisic Acid-responsive elements) were present in the promoter regions of GRFs by analysis, and the expression levels of ZmGRF4, 9, 12, 14 and ZmGIF2 were associated with the Abscisic Acid (ABA) response. Furthermore, ZmGRF9 showed collinearity with AtGRF5 between Arabidopsis and maize. ZmGRF9 conservatively interacts with ZmGIF 2, 3, and 4. As a result, we systematically identified GRF and GIF family members, analyzed the regulatory network, and found that exogenous ABA inhibited the expression of GRFs, regulating responses to stress in the environment. Drought is one of the most devastating causes of yield losses in crops like maize, and the anticipated increases in severity and duration of drought spells due to climate change pose an imminent threat to agricultural productivity. To understand the drought response, phenotypic and molecular studies are typically performed at a given time point after drought onset, representing a steady-state adaptation response. Because growth is a dynamic process, we monitored the drought response with high temporal resolution and examined cellular and transcriptomic changes after rehydration at 4 and 6 days after leaf four appearance. These data showed that division zone activity is a determinant for full organ growth recovery upon rehydration. Moreover, a prolonged maintenance of cell division by the ectopic expression of PLASTOCHRON1 extends the ability to resume growth after rehydration. The transcriptome analysis indicated that GROWTH-REGULATING FACTORS (GRFs) affect leaf growth by impacting cell division duration, which was confirmed by a prolonged recovery potential of the GRF1-overexpression line after rehydration. Finally, we used a multiplex genome editing approach to evaluate the most promising differentially expressed genes from the transcriptome study and as such narrowed down the gene space from 40 to seven genes for future functional characterization., (© 2024 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.)

The gene structure and conserved domain analysis proved the conservative characteristics of GIF genes in cotton. The function of GIF genes was evaluated in two cotton accessions, Ji A-1-7 (33xi) and King, which have larger and smaller lateral root numbers, respectively. The results showed that the expression of GhGIF4 in Ji A-1-7 (33xi) was higher than that in King. The enzyme activity and microstructure assay showed a higher POD activity, lower MDA content, and more giant cells of the lateral root emergence part phenotype in Ji A-1-7 (33xi) than in King. A mild waterlogging assay showed the GIF genes were down-regulated in the waterlogged seedling. Further confirmation of the suppression of GhGIF4 in cotton plants further confirmed that GhGIF4 could reduce the lateral root numbers in cotton. Rice Growth-Regulating Factors (GRFs) were originally identified to be gibberellin (GA)-induced, but the nature of GA induction has remained unknown because most reports thereafter focused on revealing their roles in growth-promoting activities. GRFs have the WRC (Trp, Arg, Cys) domain to target DNA and contain the QLQ (Gln, Leu, Gln) domain to interact with GRF-Interacting Factor (GIF), which recruits ATP-dependent DNA translocase Switch/Sucrose Non-fermenting (SWI/SNF) for chromatin remodeling. Both GRFs and GIFs exhibit transcriptional activities but GIFs lack a DNA-binding domain. So, GRFs act like a navigator in the GRF-GIF-SWI/SNF complex, determining when and where the complex should work on. The levels of most rice GRFs can be sensitively regulated by miR396, which responds to many developmental and environmental factors. Recent clues from several studies highlight the original question of how GRFs participate in GA signaling. DELLA (contain DELLA motif) protein plays dual roles in controlling the level of GRFs by regulating the level of miR396 and interacting with GRFs. Summary: Efficient genetic transformation has the potential to advance research and breeding in watermelon (Citrullus lanatus), but regeneration from tissue culture remains challenging. Previous work showed that expressing a fusion of two interacting transcription factors, GROWTH‐REGULATING FACTOR4 (GRF4) and GRF‐INTERACTING FACTOR1 (GIF1), improved regeneration in wheat (Triticum aestivum). By overexpressing a chimeric fusion of ClGRF4 and ClGIF1, we achieved highly efficient transformation in watermelon. Mutating the mi396 microRNA target site in ClGRF further boosted the transformation efficiency up to 67.27% in a genotype‐independent manner. ClGRF4‐GIF1 can also be combined with clustered regularly interspaced palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/CRISPR‐associated protein 9 (Cas9) genome editing tools to achieve highly efficient gene editing in watermelon, which we used to successfully create diploid seedless watermelon. En la última década del siglo XX la creación de herramientas digitales ha generado un creciente interés dentro del campo artístico. La asimilación de tales instrumentos ha supuesto una enorme contribución en torno a las posibilidades creativas del arte que, con su consiguiente distribución e intercambio de datos a través de redes digitales, ha entrañado una prospera y extensa red de interacción artística que continúa transformándose día tras día potenciando la narrativa visual. Utilizando un movimiento artístico como el arte cinético, en esta investigación se ha propuesto la unión de las características visuales empleadas del movimiento artístico de 1960 y sus efectos ópticos con el uso de las nuevas tecnologías para la potenciación de la imagen y su narrativa en un formato digital común como es el denominado GIF.

El presente artículo analiza una tendencia visual que empezó a tomar fuerza desde el año 2012 a través de la plataforma de Internet Tumblr: el GIF. A lo largo del artículo se establece un posible origen de varios principios del GIF por medio de artefactos como el zoótropo y el taumatropo, que fueron y siguen siendo pequeños juegos que funcionaban mediante un movimiento manual. Con la llegada de Internet dichos mecanismos manuales se digitalizaron. El GIF es un formato visual cuyo movimiento es cíclico, como ocurre, de manera similar, con los artefactos mencionados. Sin embargo, el contenido del GIF es muy amplio, por lo tanto, ha sido necesario recurrir a una serie de clasificaciones de este formato.

GRFs have the WRC (Trp, Arg, Cys) domain to target DNA and contain the QLQ (Gln, Leu, Gln) domain to interact with GRF-Interacting Factor (GIF), which recruits ATP-dependent DNA translocase Switch/Sucrose Non-fermenting (SWI/SNF) for chromatin remodeling. Both GRFs and GIFs exhibit transcriptional activities but GIFs lack a DNA-binding domain. So, GRFs act like a navigator in the GRF-GIF-SWI/SNF complex, determining when and where the complex should work on. The levels of most rice GRFs can be sensitively regulated by miR396, which responds to many developmental and environmental factors. Recent clues from several studies highlight the original question of how GRFs participate in GA signaling. DELLA (contain DELLA motif) protein plays dual roles in controlling the level of GRFs by regulating the level of miR396 and interacting with GRFs. Here we address the question of why this complex plays an essential role in controlling plant growth focusing on the action of GA signaling pivot, DELLA.

Este artigo focaliza a iconização do discurso em um contexto digital nativo, baseado no uso do gif na plataforma francesa Twitter. Ele defende a hipótese de uma integração sintática e enunciativa do gif em tweets, que assim têm o status de tecnografismos, em que a ordem verbal e a ordem icônica não são mais distintas, mas articuladas em um elemento composto. Utilizando uma série de exemplos de tuítes com gifs fixos ou animados, mostro que o gif está no centro de uma iconização da enunciação que tem implicações teóricas e metodológicas no trabalho da análise do discurso.

This paper presents a synthetic view on the linguistic changes that Romanian undergoes in netspeak and sheds light on the virtual environment conventions that help build meaning in cyberspace. The study goes through all linguistic layers, starting from the use of punctuation, graphical and phonetic alterations to morphosyntactic adaptations, as well as lexical and semantic trends. The pragmatics of the environment is also tackled, by presenting the most important netspeak conventions that combine text and image to generate meaning: emojis, gifs, and memes, and exploring their possible pragmatic functions, as resulted from the current state of the research in the field. The examples presented in the paper are taken from instant messaging applications.

This article focuses on the iconisation of discourse in a native digital context, based on the use of gif on the French Twitter platform. It defends the hypothesis of a syntactic and enunciative integration of the gif in tweets, which thus have the status of technographisms, in which the verbal order and the iconic order are no longer distinct but articulated in a composite element. Using a series of examples of tweets with fixed or animated gifs, I show that the gif is at the heart of an iconisation of enunciation that has theoretical and methodological implications in the work of discourse analysis. Nonverbal cues have repeatedly been shown to impact the perception of others and their relationships. How does this work in online virtual work settings, where most of the communication is text-based? Construal level theory predicts that by offering concrete emotional information, use of nonverbal cues would indicate close interpersonal distance between interlocutors. In two studies, we made comparisons between observers' perceptions of team members' chat conversations that use various digital nonverbal cues, such as non-face emojis and face and non-face GIFs of both positive and negative valence. We found that use of these cues leads observers to perceive greater emotional intensity in the conversation, which was linked to higher perceived closeness among the team members and thus higher participant motivation to join the team, regardless of cue valence. However, emotion displays are not always considered appropriate for the workplace; dual threshold theory suggests that emotion displays that are deemed inappropriate would lead to negative perceptions. In study 3, we compared chat conversations between team members using no emotion displays, face emojis, punctuation markers, or direct emotion words. We found that observers' perceived appropriateness of the team members' communication affected participant motivation to join the team, while emotion words were perceived as being less appropriate than using any of the digital nonverbal cues. These findings extend the construal level theory and dual threshold theory to virtual text-based workplace environments, while exploring a range of nonverbal cues available in this context and demonstrating the positive impact of digital nonverbal cues with a negative valence. • Use of digital nonverbal cues increases perceived closeness of a virtual team. • Perceived appropriateness of cues affects perceived team closeness and motivation to join. • Valence of digital nonverbal cues does not significantly affect the perception of team closeness. Purpose: An area of interest to health policymakers is the effect of interventions aimed at risk factors on decreasing the number of new cardiovascular disease (CVD) cases. The aim of this study was to estimate the generalized impact fraction (GIF) and population attributable fraction (PAF) of hypertension (HTN) for CVD in Tehran. Patients and Methods: In this population-based cohort study, 8071 participants aged ≥ 30 years were followed for a median of 16 years. A survival model was used to estimate the 10- and 18-year risk of CVD. JNC-IV and 2017 ACC/AHA guidelines were used to categorize blood pressure (BP). PAF and GIF were estimated in different scenarios using the parametric G-formula. Results: Of 7378 participants included in analyses, 22.7% and 52.3% were classified as hypertensive according to the JNC-IV and 2017 ACC/AHA guidelines, respectively. According to the 2017 ACC/AHA, the 10-year risk of CVD was 5.1% (4.3– 6.0%), 8.9% (6.7– 12.0%), and 7.1% (6.1– 8.4%) for normal BP, elevated BP, and stage 1 HTN, respectively, and 20.8% (18.8– 23.0%) for stage 2 of the 2017 ACC/AHA and JNC-IV. The PAF of stage 2 vs stage 1 and vs normal BP for CVD was 17.4% (11.5– 21.8%) and 20.4% (14.6– 26.4%), respectively. The GIF of 30% reduction in the prevalence of stage 2 HTN to stage 1 and to normal BP for CVD was 5.1% (3.4– 6.6%) and 6.1% (4.4– 8.0%), respectively. Based on JNC-IV, the PAF and GIF of 30% for CVD were 17.8% (12.7– 22.9%) and 5.4% (4.0– 6.9%), respectively. Conclusion: By reducing the prevalence of HTN by 30%, a remarkable number of new CVD cases would be prevented. In an Iranian population, the comparison of HTN cases with normal BP showed no association between stage 1 HTN and CVD, whereas elevated BP was a significant risk factor for the incidence of CVD. The presentation of radiology exams can be enhanced through the use of dynamic images. Dynamic images differ from static images by the use of animation and are especially useful for depicting real-time activity such as the scrolling or the flow of contrast to enhance pathology. This is generally superior to a collection of static images as a representation of clinical workflow and provides a more robust appreciation of the case in question. Dynamic images can be shared electronically to facilitate teaching, case review, presentation, and sharing of interesting cases to be viewed in detail on a computer or mobile devices for education. The creation of movies or animated images from radiology data has traditionally been challenging based on technological limitations inherent in converting the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) standard to other formats or concerns related to the presence of protected health information (PHI). The solution presented here, named Cinebot, allows a simple "one-click" generation of anonymized dynamic movies or animated images within the picture archiving and communication system (PACS) workflow. This approach works across all imaging modalities, including stacked cross-sectional and multi-frame cine formats. The ability of GIFs to generate emotionality in social media marketing strategies is analyzed. The aim of this work is to show how neuroscience research techniques can be integrated into the analysis of emotions, improving the results and helping to guide actions in social networks. This research is structured in two phases: an experimental study using automated biometric analysis (facial coding, GSR and eye tracking) and an analysis of declared feelings in the comments of Instagram users. Explicit valence, type of emotion, length of comment and proportion of emojis are extracted. The results indicate that the explicit measure of emotional valence shows a higher and more positive emotional level than the implicit one. This difference is influenced differently by the engagement and the proportion of emojis in the comment. A further step has been taken in the measurement of user emotionality in social media campaigns, including not only content analysis, but also providing new insights thanks to neuromarketing.

The spread of animated GIFs over the last decade has made them not only one of the most popular digital formats for moving images on the web, but also a significant locus for the remediation of cinematic contents. The paper focuses on GIFs grabbed from films, considering the dialectics between linearity and circularity involved in their creation as well as the pragmatic reformulations entailed by the act of sharing. The peculiarities of the production and distribution of GIFs offer and understanding of their liminal status between appropriation and re-creation, which is exemplified by the analysis of the collecting strategies adopted by two pioneering Tumblr blogs dedicated to cinematic GIFs, Three Frames and If We Don’t Remember Me.

Multimodal medical image fusion aims to fuse images with complementary multisource information. In this paper, we propose a novel multimodal medical image fusion method using pulse coupled neural network (PCNN) and a weighted sum of eight-neighborhood-based modified Laplacian (WSEML) integrating guided image filtering (GIF) in non-subsampled contourlet transform (NSCT) domain. Firstly, the source images are decomposed by NSCT, several low- and high-frequency sub-bands are generated. Secondly, the PCNN-based fusion rule is used to process the low-frequency components, and the GIF-WSEML fusion model is used to process the high-frequency components. Finally, the fused image is obtained by integrating the fused low- and high-frequency sub-bands. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can achieve better performance in terms of multimodal medical image fusion. The proposed algorithm also has obvious advantages in objective evaluation indexes VIFF, QW, API, SD, EN and time consumption.
