This paper examines the critical shift in geographical knowledge production under the increasingly authoritarian political regime in Turkey, particularly in the aftermath of the unsuccessful 2016 coup attempt. In this context, semi-structured interviews were conducted with sixteen young geographers who experienced the authoritarian shift in the political regime during their graduate studies. The narratives of the interviewees indicate that the young geographers have undergone a critical transformation with two significant aspects: firstly, they reject the traditional style of geographical knowledge production and instead embrace approaches integrated with social theory, drawing from the extensive portfolio of contemporary geography. Secondly, they approach socio-spatial phenomena in a libertarian and critical manner, distinct from the lenses of the authoritarian system. However, due to their legitimate concerns, they often refrain from presenting such research on academic platforms. In this regard, under an authoritarian regime, the critical transformation consists of two dimensions: the arena where geographical products are shared, and the underground, where geographical ‘black boxes’ are held and kept hidden from public view. Hydrogeomorphology studies river dynamics, focusing on the interactions between flow structure, sediment transport, and the morphologies that characterize rivers and their watersheds. It provides an analytical framework and tools for better integrating knowledge of river dynamics into river management in the broadest sense, and more specifically, into river restoration as well as into the assessment and prevention of risks associated with fluvial hazards. In Quebec, hydrogeomorphology is emerging as a significant contribution to risk assessment and management approaches, and is at the heart of a paradigm shift in river management whereby process restoration aims to increase the resilience of fluvial systems and societies, and improve the quality of fluvial environments. This contribution outlines the trajectory of hydrogeomorphology in Quebec, based on scientific publications by Quebec geographers, and discusses the discipline's aims in research and knowledge integration for river management. The study of the contemporary history of geography through the prism of the sociology of professions makes it possible to explore geographers' professional paths as objects of sociohistorical enquiry. Through the analysis of archival documents, three periods have been delineated, thus showing the contextual nature of the debates surrounding the presence of geographers in the workplace. From 1945 to 1962, we observe the gradual division of geography into three categories of distinct social realms: schools, university, and the professional environment. From 1963 to 1978, we witness the rise and fall of a controversial collective project, namely the foundation of a provincial accreditation board for Quebec's geographers. From 1979 to the end of the 20th century, we can notice the evolution of the "Association des géographes du Québec", which became the "Association professionnelle des géographes du Québec" in 1985. Despite the failure of the accreditation body project, the association reveals itself as a place of democratic representation and defence of applied geography and geographer's expertise. Cet article entend mobiliser le champ du théâtre et des arts de la scène pour mener un questionnement théorique sur les spatialités. En faisant de la dramaturgie un récit spatial(isé) – ce qui permet de dépasser l’opposition entre espace et spatialité – l’article interroge les modalités des récits qui se déploient sur scène. Dès lors la scénographie devient une condition pour l’avènement de ces récits. Cette discussion théorique s’appuie sur le spectacle Espæce créé par Aurélien Bory à partir d'Espèces d’espaces de Georges Perec.

Using a case study of a kerb – the social stone – found at a tram traffic Island, the text demonstrates the re/production of the ableist city and analyses processes of transforming such a city into an accessible space for people with disabilities. The authors apply actor-network theory to analyse the mutual construction of space and bodies. To understand this construction, the concept of topology is used, which the article develops by introducing 'ableist' and 'accessible' topology. Unlike topography, which is in concord with able-bodied people, topology is more suitable for the analysis of space when also including non-standard bodies. Moreover, it allows the authors to analyse the mechanisms that reproduce and control the currently inaccessible city on the one hand, and it provide some room for change on the other. However, to make this change happen, a specific network must be established. To trace the associations that create such a network, the study uses in-depth interviews with involved actors collected over a ten-year period. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In a number of countries today, borrowing from a discussion that originated in Anglo-Saxon countries, there is an increasingly insistent discussion of historical GIS as one of the stars of the digital humanities galaxy. The reasoning has been addressed, albeit with some delay and distinctly by disciplinary sectors, in a number of contributions and congresses and has seen the prevalence of a substantial acceptance of this thesis that pegs historical GIS as a component of the macro-sector of digital humanities. An alternative reading on the real convenience of maintaining a rather disciplinary distance between both is offered for the purposes of cognitive growth. It is therefore not a question of establishing primaries or hegemonies of one over the other but rather a "call to arms" (historians, geographers, urban planners, archaeologists, ecologists, etc.) by leveraging the scientific heterogeneity (interdisciplinarity), offering space for common dialogue. Thus, through the uniting of different forces that individually remain partial and marginal in the use of historical GIS will it be possible to consider real growth that can enable an effective enrichment of geographical-historical-cartographic research based on the use of GIS in face of the digital humanities. Dionne Brand's A Map to the Door of No Return is meditation and reflection of the meaning of our conditions. As meditation it sings to us in a blue note that worries us, that lingers in the unsettled. It writes Black life as unsettled by the modern world and its maps. Les éléments issus du passé suscitent un intérêt croissant dans les sociétés du monde entier qui mettent dès lors en place des initiatives pour les sauvegarder et les valoriser (Oulebsir & Swenson, 2015). Pourtant, ces éléments sont désignés diversement suivant les pays : il s’agit du Kulturerbe et du Kulturgut en allemand et du patrimoine en français. La comparaison franco-allemande de la patrimonialisation d’écotypes locaux d’oignons menée à Bamberg et dans les Pyrénées-Orientales conduit à s’interroger sur le sens accordé au "langage patrimonial" (Idem) dans les deux pays et à mesurer sa portée dans l’étude de la production de légumes. L’article met ainsi en évidence la potentielle inadéquation du lexique patrimonial pour comprendre l’agriculture biologique.

Parce que la littérature-monde a généralement été réduite à une littérature « en français », notre étude veut montrer que tel n’a pas toujours été le cas. Avant la publication du manifeste des 44 et de l’anthologie Pour une littérature-monde, la notion, liée aux activités menées autour du festival Étonnants Voyageurs, a largement évolué. En prenant partie pour une lecture rétrospective des espaces géographiques modélisés par les discours manifestaires et l’association des contributeurs à un pays dans les anthologies publiées sous l’effigie de ce mouvement, nous montrons que ce concept renvoie tour à tour à une littérature européenne, postcoloniale, extra-hexagonale et internationale de langue française en France.

The notion of Social-Economic Formation (SEF), elaborated by Marx and Lenin, will echo in several other philosophical, sociological, historical, economic and geographic works. In geography, particularly in Brazil, important intellectuals will express the need to incorporate the spatial dimension into the debate of the Social-Social Economy, given the inseparability between society and space, proposing the analytical category of socio-spatial formation, as in the case of Milton Santos. In this context, the article aims to discuss the Brazilian geographic interpretation of the notion of Social-Economic Formation. In order to achieve this objective, a bibliographical review on the theme was carried out, using authors responsible for the theoretical construction of the SEF and their interlocutors. Cet article traite d’un nouveau référentiel théorique à même de prendre en compte la dimension politique des enjeux spatiaux des sociétés contemporaines : la démocratie habitée. Ce référentiel est tout d’abord construit à partir du croisement des axes de renouvellement de l’éducation permanente en Belgique francophone avec la théorie de la justice spatiale que je propose au sein d’un groupe de chercheurs, dont font également partie Jacques Lévy et Jean-Nicolas Fauchille. Dans la première partie, je synthétise les référentiels historiques de l’éducation permanente ainsi que leur traduction dans la régulation de ce champ par la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles (FWB). À partir de ce portrait, j’identifie l’émergence du nouveau référentiel de la démocratie habitée. Celui-ci postule que la production collective d’un projet culturel ou artistique de longue haleine peut partager, dans certaines conditions, les finalités et les outils de diverses formes de démocratie participative. Avec une focale géographique, cette production collective concerne ici un travail citoyen qui porte spécifiquement sur des questions relatives à l’habiter de l’espace contemporain. Dans la deuxième partie de l’article, j’élabore l’étude de cas d’un dispositif d’éducation permanente de cinéma participatif : les Ateliers urbains du Centre Vidéo de Bruxelles (CVB). L’analyse de cas s’appuie sur un processus de réflexivité collaborative lente, que je développe avec le CVB depuis 2020. Les va-et-vient entre théorie et analyse empirique des films et de ses méthodes ont permis de problématiser trois enjeux de cohérence interne des pratiques de démocratie habitée, présentés dans la conclusion.

Jean-Pierre Augustin expérimente l’animation dans un foyer pour jeunes d’un quartier populaire à Bordeaux, représentatif de la naissance de l’animation socioculturelle en France. Les conflits entre jeunes épuisent les illusions des animateurs pour cet espace de socialisation, qui s’adapte en s’ouvrant à une animation de quartier et globale, avant de fournir un ancrage à des dispositifs territorialisés dans une ville éclatée. Jean-Pierre Augustin confronte dans ses études l’évolution socio-spatiale des villes et les pratiques sociales créatrices d’une urbanité flexible. Enseignant-chercheur en IUT, il promeut des formations diplômantes pour contribuer à la professionnalisation d’animateurs. Participant de synergies internationales, dont celles issues du RIA et de coopérations scientifiques, il conforte une conception émancipatoire de l’animation et de l’action collective. Les qualités humaines, la grande curiosité d’esprit et la capacité de travail du professeur d’université caractérisent un homme pluriel qui participe à de multiples réseaux associatifs, institutionnels et universitaires. Ce géographe humaniste est porteur d’un optimisme lucide et généreux.

The article analyzes the project of the Public Instruction Directorate of the state of Bolívar in the 1870s, which sought to gather geographical information through school teachers in order to reform the official map of the state. The central role of teachers in the production of local knowledge aimed at strengthening cartographic projects in republican political life is highlighted. Additionally, it examines how an attempt was made to fill the void left by the suspension of the work of the Corographic Commission through local cartographic practices. School teachers played a fundamental role in the collection and processing of geographical information, and made adjustments and corrections to existing maps. Furthermore, the importance of centralizing educational aspects in the General Directorate of Public Instruction for the control and registration of teachers in the State of Bolívar is emphasized. L’adaptation à l’environnement et l’isolement sont cruciaux dans la genèse de la géodiversité, ou diversité géographique, comme dans la formation des diversités culturelle et biologique. Ces facteurs, d’ordre évolutionniste et écologique dans le dernier cas, historique et géographique dans les autres, se dégradent avec la mondialisation. Après avoir exposé la conception de la géographie sur laquelle est fondée la notion, on examine la formation de la géodiversité qui accompagne le peuplement humain de la Terre, avant de présenter deux cas où les géographies mises en œuvre par les populations expliquent la diversification linguistique par isolement territorial et l’adaptation optimale d’un genre de vie aux écosystèmes marins. Préserver et inventer la géodiversité permettent l’habitation durable de la Terre pour l’humanité et les autres êtres vivants dans leurs diversités respectives.
