- Abstract
Intergenerational conflict appears frequently in American public discourse, often framed as clashes between Millennials and Baby Boomers. Building on intergroup threat theory in an exploratory survey, a preregistered correlational study, and a preregistered intervention (N = 1,714), we find that (a) Millennials and Baby Boomers do express more animosity toward each other than toward other generations (Studies 1–3); (b) their animosity reflects asymmetric generational concerns: Baby Boomers primarily fear that Millennials threaten traditional American values (symbolic threat) while Millennials primarily fear that Baby Boomers's delayed transmission of power hampers their life prospects (realistic threat; Studies 2–3); (c) finally, an intervention challenging the entitativity of generational categories alleviates perceived threats and hostility for both generations (Study 3). These findings inform research on intergroup threat, provide a theoretically grounded framework to understand intergenerational relations, and put forward a strategy to increase harmony in aging societies. - Abstract
The integration of shared and autonomous mobility has led to the emergence of shared autonomous vehicles with ride-sharing services (SAVWRS), which have the potential to significantly reduce private car usage and promote sustainable transportation. Despite numerous studies on this topic, there is still no research examining the impact of all dimensions of perceived risk theory on usage intention. Therefore, we aim to investigate these relationships and gain deeper insights by examining the mediating effect of trust and the moderating effect of generation (Millennials vs. Baby Boomers) to address potential disparities across generations. To gather insights, we design an online survey that was completed by a random sample of 723 individuals in 2021. The estimation results of the structural equation model reveal that all perceived risk dimensions (social, performance, time, physical, security, and financial risks, in descending order) are negatively related to consumers’ intention. Additionally, trust fully mediates the relationships between performance, physical, financial, and security risks and usage intention, whereas it partially mediates the relationships between social and time risks and the intention to use. Furthermore, moderation analysis revealed that Millennials are less concerned about most dimensions of perceived risk theory, except for social and time risks. In conclusion, our study contributes to a deeper understanding of the complex relationships between perceived risk dimensions, trust, and usage intention in SAVWRS. Our findings suggest that policymakers and industry stakeholders should consider strategies to address these concerns to promote widespread acceptance of SAVWRS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The complete classification of the finite simple groups that are (2, 3)-generated is a problem which is still open only for orthogonal groups. Here, we construct (2, 3)-generators for the finite odd-dimensional orthogonal groups Ω2k+1(q), k ≥ 4. As a byproduct, we also obtain (2, 3)-generators for Ω+4k(q) with k ≥ 3 and q odd, and for Ω± 4k+2(q) with k ≥ 4 and q ≡ ±1 (mod 4). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

AbstractThis study is a retrospective examination of how sexual minority women have experienced their sexuality. The analysis examined a national archival dataset that was collected online in the US and Canada to examine the relationship between gender and sexuality in 1084 sexual minority women in 2003, with a focus on butch and femme identities. It provided an understanding of how gender and sexuality interacted at the turn of the last century when the gender identity landscape differed from that of today. While this study collected data from butch and femme women approximately 20-years ago, the results have implications for how we develop situated understandings of the relationship between gender and sexuality. Findings indicated gendered patterns in sexual preferences and attraction that can shed light on how gender and sexuality have evolved in connection. At the same time, there were no differences in sexual satisfaction, which suggests that the enactment of gendered sexuality (in which attraction is structured by a gender dynamic) was experienced as empowering rather than oppressive. We examine our findings in relation to current scholarship on gendered sexuality to consider how sexuality is constructed and reconstructed across time. The findings support a view of gendered sexuality as a source of pleasure, affirmation, and positive embodiment. We theorize gendered sexuality as functioning to enhance experiences of authenticity and resist heteronormativity. The study holds implications for research on the interaction of gender and sexuality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Based on ethnographic fieldwork, this article is concerned with how undocumented refugees and migrants use invisibility strategies to navigate a hostile host environment in Western Tanzania. This article explores how the shifts in Tanzania's refugee policy have affected different generations of refugees differently, and how older cohorts assist newer cohorts. This article argues that the challenges of migration are productive of 'affective circuits' and of generating new forms of kinship. It argues that it can be productive to bring together the different understandings of generations, as it was found that generations as cohorts can transform into generations as kin in situations of rupture and adversity. Prejudice and negative attitudes toward stronger gender-equality policies are often associated with personal traits such as sexism. An alternate perspective focuses on intergroup threats in resource-scarce situations, highlighting economic frustration. Centered on South Korea, this study examines the connection between deepening pessimistic economic perceptions among young men and their opposition to gender equality, based on intergroup threat theory. Analyzing data from the 2019 Unification Survey, we find that young Korean men expressed less support for gender-equality policies than other segments of the population. And among Korean men in their twenties, a pessimistic view of their economic status correlated with weaker endorsement of gender-equality policies. In contrast, we saw no significant link in this group between sexist attitudes and resistance to gender-equality policies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper addresses the challenge museums of catastrophic history face, striving to translate between history and memory in creating a meaningful and sensitive experience for individual visitors, not only evoking the past but also impacting the present and future. This study focuses on the Jewish Museum Berlin and asks how the museum can impact individual visitor journeys and concurrently address the public demand for memory, the contradictions between museum mission and public perception, and the perceived distance of visitors from historical events. The study builds on memory and translation studies research and the concepts of history, story, and identity. An analysis of entangled memory (Feindt et al. 2014), here applied as an inspiration for generational translation, shows how the crossover between memory and translation studies provides insight into the work of memory museums. Previous research and the history, mission, identity, architecture, and conflicts of the Jewish Museum Berlin show that museums – as (unfinished) collective memories – allow the creation of space for individual reflection and the interpretation of past and present to create a narrative. The work of memory museums is complex, but the concepts of generational translation and entangled memory are valuable tools in provoking and enabling meaningful experience and reflection. Purpose: In recent years remote work has gained popularity due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which forced employers to implement a remote work; growing importance of digital technologies is also important. Therefore, author decided to check the entrepreneurs willingness to implement remote work, taking into account generational differences. Design/methodology/approach: In order to examine the problem, author conducted his own survey (survey at the sample of N = 132 entrepreneurs). The research method used is mainly a standardized survey conducted based on a questionnaire consisting of closed questions and a Likert scale. In addition, basic theoretical issues regarding remote work and differences between generations on the labor market were discussed. Findings: Studies allowed to learn about the feelings of entrepreneurs in relation to the performance of remote work by employees from various generations. Generally, it can be observed a general tendency: the younger employees, the greater the entrepreneurs' propensity to implement remote work. The research hypotheses will be explained thanks to the analysis of the results of the conducted own study. Research limitations/implications: The research presented in this article should be continued. In the following years, they can be enriched with research from the employees perspective, as well as to study the feelings of entrepreneurs regarding employees from the alpha generation. Originality/value: The author's own research enriches the literature by examining employers' attitudes regarding their approach to implementing remote work among employees representing different generations. The results of this research can be used both by employees (in order to learn what their potential employers feel about remote work), but also by managers/ entrepreneurs (knowledge from this research may be useful when managing an enterprise and making personnel decisions). Mobile user traffic facilitates diverse applications, including network planning and optimization, whereas large-scale mobile user traffic is hardly available due to privacy concerns. One alternative solution is to generate mobile user traffic data for downstream applications. However, existing generation models cannot simulate the multi-scale temporal dynamics in mobile user traffic on individual and aggregate levels. In this work, we propose a multi-scale hierarchical generative adversarial network (MSH-GAN) containing multiple generators and a multi-class discriminator. Specifically, the mobile traffic usage behavior exhibits a mixture of multiple behavior patterns, which are called micro-scale behavior patterns and are modeled by different pattern generators in our model. Moreover, the traffic usage behavior of different users exhibits strong clustering characteristics, with the co-existence of users with similar and different traffic usage behaviors. Thus, we model each cluster of users as a class in the discriminator's output, referred to as macro-scale user clusters. Then, the gap between micro-scale behavior patterns and macro-scale user clusters is bridged by introducing the switch mode generators, which describe the traffic usage behavior in switching between different patterns. All users share the pattern generators. In contrast, the switch mode generators are only shared by a specific cluster of users, which models the multi-scale hierarchical structure of the traffic usage behavior of massive users. Finally, we urge MSH-GAN to learn the multi-scale temporal dynamics via a combined loss function, including adversarial loss, clustering loss, aggregated loss, and regularity terms. Extensive experiment results demonstrate that MSH-GAN outperforms state-of-art baselines by at least 118.17% in critical data fidelity and usability metrics. Moreover, observations show that MSH-GAN can simulate traffic patterns and pattern switch behaviors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

social identity ,temporary identity ,identification ,self-categorization ,generation ,generational group ,Psychology ,BF1-990 - Abstract
Background. The relevance of the study is determined by two core factors. (1) In conditions of uncertainty and reduction of the usual bases of social solidarity, the analysis of the patterns of generational identity sets a new perspective for understanding the dynamic unity of the processes of constructing social and personal identities. (2) Identifying the phenomenology of identity of different generations seems necessary for the needs of practical psychological assistance to various social subjects. Objective. The research is focused on revealing and describing the features of identification with the generational group in people belonging to different generations. Methods. Author's questionnaire (Appendix 1) consisting of: (1) questions about historical events that influenced the formation of a generational group; (2) questions about the cultural life scenario of a generation and an assessment of the probability of a particular typical event; (3) unfinished sentences on the psychological portrait of one's generation. Study Participants. 215 respondents (Generations of Stagnation, Reform, Millennials, and Zoomers) took part in the research. Results. The identity portrait of the stagnation generation includes: an emphasis on large-scale events; the prevalence of collectivist and family values; self-attribution of such qualities as patriotism, openness to the world, conscientiousness, responsiveness. The identity of the reform generation is based on the events of the 1990s, interpreting them through the prism of the policy of openness to the outside world, as well as technological events; it is “transitional” in terms of typical life scenarios and personality traits. The identity portrait of millennials includes: mainly the events of the 2010s and economic events, the prevalence of the values of freedom, creativity, progress; self-attribution of experiencing life's difficulties. The identity of the zoomer generation is significantly different: they do not have political events in their identity portrait; recent events (pandemic, digitalization) act as an identification support; marriage and childbirth are unlikely in life scenarios; self-attributions include flexibility, individualism, political correctness, and peacefulness. Conclusion. The socio-psychological analysis of the identity of generations is implemented at three interconnected levels through identification: with historical events, with events of the life scenario and with a typical psychological portrait of a representative of the generation.

[Display omitted] • Amine groups in generation 1 to 4 of magnetic-cored dendrimers were quantified. • Reduced number of end groups in generation 3 was due to blocking and narrowed space. • Active amines in generation 4 were increased due to enlarged internal cavities. • Active amine end groups are key to determine the adsorption potential. The number of amine end groups in the first (G1), second (G2), third (G3), and fourth (G4) generations of magnetic-cored dendrimers (MCD) was determined experimentally and effect on Pb (II) adsorption was investigated. Calculated end groups in different generation MCDs obtained by thermogravimetric analysis appeared an increase with successive generations, but not doubled. Decrease in end groups was due to the blocking of branches during synthesis and narrow space between end groups. Active amine end groups were also quantified via acid-base titration experiment. The active amines were increased with the generations, except for G3-MCD because of the reduced distance between end groups. However, the active amines were drastically increased in the G4-MCD because the hydrophilic amine groups were stretched in the outer space by the repulsive hydrophobic inner structure of MCD chains. Maximum Pb (II) adsorption was 44.49 mg/g (G1-MCD), 79.57 mg/g (G2-MCD), 44.35 mg/g (G3-MCD), and 116.19 mg/g (G4-MCD), respectively. They are very well correlated with the titration results, confirming the adsorption was directly affected by active amines in MCDs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Throughout the world, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans*, intersex, and queer (LGBTIQ+) self-identification has significantly risen among Millennials and Generation Z. However, many studies have overlooked how sexual identity and fluidity among young people are potentially endogenous to ideology, as a psychological and political factor, as well as gender and generational cohorts. This article explores these issues among 4,000 Catalan Millennials and Gen Z individuals using data from two official surveys conducted in 2017 and 2022. Our findings indicate a rise in non-normative sexual orientations and a shift towards more fluid conceptions of sexuality, rather than fixed categories, with notable variations based on gender and ideological stance. Nonetheless, we observe that a leftist ideology is associated with a higher likelihood of identifying as LGB+, particularly among Catalan Gen Z women, where over 25% identify as non-heterosexual. On the one hand, this study provides a new theoretical and empirical perspective on youth sexual identity outside the Anglosphere, highlighting the interplay between individual, micro psychological agency and broader, macro sociological factors, such as gender norms and political trends. On the other hand, the article offers evidence of reverse causality between sexual identity and ideology in the line suggested by Critical Theory, thus contributing to political behavior literature. The modern development of power engineering is accompanied by a number of trends, among which one can note the decarbonization of energy production processes; an increase in the share of electricity in the balance of energy consumption due to the deep electrification of industry, transport and heat supply; decentralization of energy sources; an increase in the share of renewable energy sources, including the involvement in the turnover of secondary energy resources and energy from the disposal of organic waste; the development of practice active consumption and prosumerism. For the Republic of Belarus, in which forests are one of the main renewable natural resources and the most important national wealth that ensure the sustainable socio-economic development of the country, its economic, energy, environmental and food security, in the context of decarbonization of the power engineering sector, it is relevant to determine the importance and location of energy generating equipment using local fuels (LF), especially for heating capacities and polygeneration plants. The paper presents the results of a study conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of using mini-CHP plants on LF. The analysis of the archived data of the automated process control system of an operating mini-CHP with a heating ORC unit (Turboden 14 CHP) made it possible to evaluate its maneuverable characteristics with reference to the operating modes of the centralized heat supply system with a predominance of municipal and household heat load in it. It has been shown that the average rate of change in power is 1.5...3.0 % min; respectively, the time to reach rated power under normal conditions exceeds 40 minutes; the time to start the unit from a “cold state” varies from 20 minutes to 2 hours. Therefore the assumption has been confirmed that the studied ORC unit in particular and mini-CHP plants of a similar type as a whole cannot be considered and used as a maneuverable energy source without additional modernization. The conducted numerical study made it possible to show the opportunity of planning effective operating modes of a heating ORC unit in the configuration of the basic thermal circuit of a mini-CHP on LF with the integration of a hydrogen production module into it based on the forecast of the daily schedule of thermal energy consumption and taking into account the dynamics of changes in outdoor air temperature. Conceptual block diagrams of integrated polygeneration systems are also presented; they stand out for the use of hydrogen generation equipment from over-produced electricity during the operation of mini-CHP plants according to a thermal schedule and participation in the coverage of the electric load schedule of the Unified Energy System of Belarus. The use of thermal circuits with thermochemical hydrogen production technology and the operating mode of the ORC unit at rated power is shown to be promising for newly designed mini-CHPs on LF.

Abstract When the stakeholder theory challenged the neoclassical shareholder theory, it was a step forward in the theoretical and practical debate about the role and responsibility of businesses in society and how wide the responsibility is. Today, neither of these theories go far enough to explain the responsibilities of businesses in society and neither do corporate social responsibility nor corporate sustainability given the complexity of the business environment in which companies operate and how far they are going, or how far they are pushed, to respond to grand challenges or the opportunities they may entail. The aim of this paper is to provide a theoretical exploration and a critical appraisal of the need for a paradigm shift from shareholders and stakeholders to future successors. This is grounded in a discussion about corporate social responsibility/corporate sustainability, and the relevance of environmental constraints, multilateral sustainability policies and pathways, and needs and requirements of corporate future successors that are important for businesses that want to prosper in the long-term. The findings suggest that forward-looking supranational political and economic unions, intergovernmental organizations, regional and local governments, and leading businesses have moved ahead of theory towards including intra- and intergenerational interests and the natural environment into their policies, regulations, and strategies. In doing so, they even go so far as to grant personhood to the natural environment, thereby recognizing the importance of the natural environment for their own and the prosperity of present and future generations who will be future successors of businesses. Consequently, the implication of the paper is to suggest a new theoretical lens which has a much wider scope than shareholder and stakeholder theories currently do, and a strategic roadmap, emphasizing the importance of future successors for corporate responsibility and successful business operations in the long-term and pinpoint ways forward in doing so.

Radiocarbon (14C), with a radioactive half-life of approximately 5730 years, poses a long-term environmental contamination risk when released into the atmosphere. The quantification analysis of its release estimates plant-specific generation rates based on factors such as plant power, core neutron flux distribution, and the volume of water exposed to this flux. Utilizing the improved estimation method, the 14C production rate for several Korean Pressurized Water Reactors (PWRs) was calculated. Also, improvements in measurement methods through sampling have also been made. These enhancements include the verification of the absorption method versus the mixing method. The results of this study indicate that plant-specific 14C production rates range from 0.213 to 0.317 TBq/yr, which are comparable to the global range observed in PWRs. Furthermore, the study evaluated a quenching correction curve for a liquid scintillation counter using two quenching correction methods: the external standard method and the internal standard method. The accuracy of these methods with 72 samples was validated with an average relative error within ±2.5%. The relative error of the mixing method, when compared to the direct absorption method, was found to be within ±20%. This finding underscores the validity of the improved measurement technique.

The paper presents the results of a study to determine the rational structure of mini-CHP (Cogeneration Heat and Power Plant) using local fuels types (LFT) for operation as part of the United Energy System (UES) of Belarus with a surplus of electricity generating capacity and dominance of imported types of energy resources (natural gas and nuclear fuel) in the fuel balance. When optimizing the operating modes of mini-CHPs using LFT and operating in parallel with the UES, which has a significant surplus of electricity generating capacity, it is necessary to separate options for existing stations and options for newly built ones. In the first case, due to the fact that the power of the equipment is known, it is advisable to consider two extreme options, i.e., the operation of the heating unit according to an electrical or thermal load schedule. In this case, in order to maintain the daily consumption traffic it is necessary to provide for the accumulation of thermal or electrical energy, respectively. In the case of new construction, the optimized parameter is the power of the generating equipment, so it is advisable to give preference to the option with the maximum number of hours of use of the rated power. In order to increase the economic attractiveness of mini-CHP, options for developing the structure of mini-CHP using LFT with the transition to multi-generation technologies and adaptation to the existing operating conditions of the UES of Belarus have been considered. The results of an analysis of commercially available technologies for storing excess electrical energy are presented in accordance with current and projected (until 2030) cost and operational indicators. For adapting mini-CHP to operate in the UES in conditions of a surplus of electrical power capacity, an electrical energy storage system using hydrogen as an intermediate energy carrier is of greatest interest. To utilize the excess electrical energy consumption from a mini-CHP with a heating ORC unit during the daily dips, a structural diagram configuration using an alkaline electrolysis module for hydrogen production is proposed. The efficiency of energy storage and use technology is considered depending on the specific energy intensity for various electrical energy storage technologies. The use of the two most energy-intensive energy storage technologies is proposed: accumulation based on electrochemical batte-ries and the “electricity-hydrogen” type. During the study, an analysis of the functioning of the ORC-installation Turboden 14 CHP ORC-installation operating as part of a mini-CHP using LFT was carried out. It was revealed that today the installation operates in a wide range of load changes (from 17 to 87 % of the rated electrical power), while the generation of electrical energy from thermal consumption varied in the range from 0.20 to 0.026 MW/MW. Due to the fact that the ORC installation under study is a component of the energy source with a high installed peak thermal power, in the current state there is no direct correlation between the outside air temperature and the generation power of the ORC installation. This circumstance indicates the need to continue the study of heat load trends to build functional models for short- and medium-term forecasting of heat load depending on the time of day and average hourly outside air temperature, which was implemented in the second part of the work.

Introduction. The principle of aesthetic transformation affects not only the functioning of fashion, but also a range of problems related to the worldview and world perception of a person, which are relevant for any time. Aesthetic problems have a deeper foundation than the change of images of vestimentary fashion, and lie in the sphere of social and cultural life of society. Theoretical analysis. At certain points in history, the aggravation of social and cultural aspects of public life causes a change in the spiritual values developed over the centuries, followed by a revision of aesthetic ideals. In the period of the 1920s, youth became the dominant age category in the society, and the cult of youth appeared. The theoretical basis of this phenomenon was provided by T. Parsons, K. Mannheim, Х. Ortega-y-Gasset, J. Huizinga and others, justifying it by the conflict of generations, the lack of continuity between them. Conclusions. An attempt has been made to take an integrated approach to the analysis of a number of aspects of a socio-cultural nature in a certain time period, which served as the starting point for the emergence of the cult of youth. The phenomenon led to the reassessment of aesthetic ideals. Fashion reacted sensitively to it, youth images inspired bold new directions and determined its development for decades to come.

When the stakeholder theory challenged the neoclassical shareholder theory, it was a step forward in the theoretical and practical debate about the role and responsibility of businesses in society and how wide the responsibility is. - Abstract
War is a phenomenon that stands out with its massively destructive effects. Wars, which deeply affect the political, economic, and cultural structures of societies, cause physical and psychological traumas on a large scale. This research was conducted to understand the effects of the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas on people and to propose solutions. The reception of news photographs about the Israel-Hamas War by nine participants selected from generations X, Y, and Z were analysed. News photographs were selected from TRT News's news reports titled "Photo Focus" on the Israel-Hamas War by using the purposive sampling method. Semi-structured in-depth interview technique, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the interviews with the participants. This method provides a detailed analysis of the participants' emotional and cognitive reactions to the war-themed photographs. In the interviews conducted with the participants in the research, it was observed that socio-demographic characteristics such as age, gender, education level caused differences in the perception process of news photographs about the Israel-Hamas War. This paper argues for generation to be incorporated into the analysis of social reproduction to open new ways of thinking about the significance of children's unpaid work in and for their families. This paper situates its argument in relation to social reproduction theory and the conceptualization of generation in childhood studies and development studies. It draws on a longitudinal study of girls growing up in contemporary Benin and Togo conducted by Plan Benin and Plan Togo. This paper shows how the work of social reproduction is distributed across the household with children, especially girls, playing a large part in these activities. Trading and farming are the main economic activities of women, and girls gradually extend their knowledge of how to farm and trade as they get older. This paper concludes that placing generation into the centre of social reproduction theory will not only make visible the work that children do in subsistence economies but is also important for answering the perennial question of social reproduction theory in capitalist economies: who pays for that 'strange commodity', 'living labour' to be reproduced. Research on topological interlocking (TI) assemblies indicates that the geometry of blocks plays a significant role in the performance of a configuration. The current TI generation methods can return assemblies of uniform antiprisms, tetrahedra, cubes, and octahedra. However, other shapes (both convex and concave) are well qualified for use in TI assemblies. This paper presents a framework to generate blocks for TI assembly. Starting from a seed polygon, evolution steps translate and reshape the polygon, contracting it eventually to a point, a line segment, or another polygon. Our framework generalizes and unifies previous-generation methods based on tilting angles and height parameters. We show how the proposed method systematically generates novel TI solids and previously reported others. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The article attempts to outline some significant aspects of the Bulgarian family's views on education and the value of the child and childhood in the mid-twentieth century. Based on 60 authentic autobiographical accounts of people born in the 1940s and 1950s, particular moments in the social and pedagogical communication between child and adult are structured. The empirical material has the specificity of a particular section of the past, and is an element of the generic and community memory of the individuals studied. At the same time, the focus on the role of the child, his being, the possibilities for the development of his personality, is an attempt to parallel contemporary projections on the image of the child. The respondents' vision of their own experiences in the period of childhood brings to the fore moral norms and positions, important also in the present, which today are assumed to be in no small degree de-structured in pedagogical terms, insofar as the patriarchal type of family matrix and its typical functional features and socializing characteristics hardly exist. The importance of work for the child, respect for parents, obedience, was one of the sides of children's life decades ago. Another side in the narratives of the surveyed persons, characterized difficulties in access to education and the impossibility of mass inclusion of children in a full educational process. Which, in turn, has implications for the personal development and opportunities for meaningful projection of the future in children and young then. The study also highlights some existential characteristics of life in the post-war generation - deprivation, material deprivation, but also the conditional carefree nature of childhood existence, thanks to the natural mechanisms of joy. It can be pointed out that the model of childhood in the middle of the last century actually defines the "insufficiency" of modern childhood today. This phenomenon, in content and meaning, represents the disappearance of traditional values in the life of the family matrix (too variable today) - mutual trust, skills of positive interpersonal dialogue, cohesion, intergenerational respect, companionship, support. - Abstract
The article is devoted to a topical subject of distributed generation of electrical energy. The cage and skip mine hoists of the iron ore mining enterprise were considered as generators of electrical energy. The purpose of the study is to compare theoretical and experimental data on electricity generation by mine hoisting units of the Sukha Balka PJSK (Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine). The research methods are theoretical ones - on the transformation of the potential energy of a solid body into electrical energy during its movement through a mine shaft, and experimental ones - involving instrumental measurements of the consumption and generation of electrical energy by cage and skip hoists units during industrial operation. Research schedule: collection and processing of information on the operation of the cage and skip hoists of the mine named after Frunze and similar indicators of the cage and skip hoists units of the Yuvileyna mine for the period from September 1 to December 31, 2021. The novelty of the research lies in the instrumental measurement of the electrical parameters of mine hoists in real Ukrainian operating conditions. The most significant results: it was found that the volumes of electricity generation by mine cage hoists significantly exceed the results of skip hoists. The actual indicators of electricity generation by cage hoists units are much lower than the results of theoretical estimates. There is an imbalance between the generation and consumption of energy resources - 9% for the cage elevation of the mine Frunze; about 2% for the cage hoist of the Yuvileyna mine; less than 1% on skip units. It was found that there is a statistically significant correlative relationship between the generation and consumption of electricity by the cage hoist of the mine named after Frunze and no statistically significant relationship between the generation and consumption of electricity by the cage hoist unit of the Yuvileyna mine. The electricity obtained from the daily operation of two cage and two skip units of the Sukha Balka PJSC (approximately 400 kWh) is enough to power 58 average Ukrainian households. Speed breeding (SB) is an effective solution to enhance genetic gain. We advanced 14 intraspecific and interspecific lentil populations from F2 to F6 generation under a SB growth chamber applying an extended photoperiod of 18h light (23-25 °C)/6h darkness (14-16 °C). Six generations per year were achieved with an average generation cycle ranging from 62 to 76 days, demonstrating the effectiveness of SB in reducing generation time. More than 1500 F6-7 single plant-row advanced lines obtained from the populations were grown as observation nurseries under field conditions for seed multiplication and preliminary selection prior to their introduction in yield trials in the perspective of identifying new improved varieties. In addition to higher genetic gain, the SB method is resource efficient and easy to implement in small-scale breeding programs. To our knowledge, this is the first report showing effective implementation of SB protocol in lentil breeding pipeline in Africa and the Middle East. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MONOUNSATURATED fatty acids , *UNSATURATED fatty acids , *PUMPKIN seeds , *OLEIC acid , *FRUIT seeds - Abstract
Contextualization: Pumpkin seed is rich in ether extract with a high quantity of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids content. Knowledge gap: It is unknown how inbreeding influences the ether extract character in pumpkin seeds. Purpose: It aimed to evaluate the behavior of ether extract content and its characteristics associated to the seed of C. moschata pumpkin genotypes in three generations of inbreeding S0, S1, and S2 and to identify the predominant fatty acids in the best genotype. Methodology: A randomized complete block design was used with six (6) genotypes, four (4) repetitions, and five (5) plants per experimental unit. Inbreeding depression (ID) between generations was evaluated for the ether extract (EE), seed weight per fruit (PSPF, in Spanish), seed unit weight (PUS, in Spanish), and number of seeds per fruit (NSPF) variables. Gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC/MC) was used to identify the fatty acids present in the EE. Results and conclusions: In genotypes 129 and 160, when passing from generation S0 to S1, they did not have ID in the EE character, and when passing from generation S1 to S2, only genotype 129 had ID; the other genotypes increased the EE content. There were fluctuations between genotypes for the variables PSPF, PUS, and NSPF in which no differentiating factor between generations was identified. When analyzing the EE, it was identified that 66.98% corresponds to monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids, of which 60.15% corresponds to oleic acid, and squalene, which is scarcely present in oilseeds, was found among the components. SOCIAL reproduction , *RURAL families , *ECONOMIC systems , *SOCIAL services , *LIFE history theory ,DEVELOPING countries - Abstract
Much of the existing debate on social reproduction focuses on capitalist social relations or is framed around the distinction between the Global North and Global South. Using China, whose unique post‐1949 developmental trajectory embraces both elements of socialism and capitalism, this article aims to breakdown the dichotomy between capitalism and other economic systems and instead draw attention to the ways in which households, the state and market are interdependent. Drawing upon an ethnography conducted in two rural villages and three‐generational life history data, this article explores how the organization of reproductive work evolved in rural families against the backdrop of wider political and economic transformations since 1949. Through an examination of the inter‐linkages between productive and reproductive activities across three generations, it reveals that unpaid reproductive work, performed unambiguously by women, has been central to China's economic modernization in both the Mao and Post‐Mao eras. The organization of this reproductive work among women inside the households of each generation since 1949 is influenced by a combination of factors including the patrilocal and patrilineal kinship system, the social welfare context and the economic processes of a particular era. While confirming existing scholarship on migration and agrarian change, by revealing the household as a site of gendered and intergenerational negotiation, this article disputes a linear generational power shift in agrarian transformations. Simple Summary: The study examined the phenological response of Grapholita molesta (Busck, 1916), a pest damaging Rosaceae stone fruits, to climate warming. Data on G. molesta population dynamics and climate in China from 1980 to 2020 were analyzed. Significant advancements were observed in the peak date of overwintering adults in northeastern, eastern, and northern China. Populations of contemporary adults in northwestern China and population peak date of overwintering adults in northern China also advanced. However, the end occurrence date of contemporary adults in northern China was delayed along with the first occurrence date of overwintering adults in northwestern China. The study highlighted spatial variations in G. molesta's phenological response to climate warming across China, offering valuable insights for predicting pest infestations and enhancing pest management strategies in fruit tree cultivation. Grapholita molesta (Busck, 1916), a significant pest affecting various fruits such as pears, apples, peaches, etc., is highly adaptable to changing temperatures. However, the phenological response mechanism of this pest to climate warming remains unclear. To address this issue, we collected population dynamics data of G. molesta in China over the years along with corresponding climate data. We analyzed five phenological indexes: the first, end, and peak occurrence dates of contemporary adults as well as the first and peak occurrence dates of overwintering adults in China. Results revealed an upward trend in the annual average temperature and average temperature of the four seasons in regions infested by G. molesta in eastern, northeastern, northwestern, northern, and southwestern China from 1980 to 2020. Notably, the population peak date of overwintering adults in northeastern and eastern China significantly advanced along with the first occurrence date and the population peak date of overwintering adults in northern China. Additionally, the population peak date of contemporary adults in northwestern China significantly advanced. However, the end occurrence date of contemporary adults in northern China was significantly delayed, as was the first occurrence date of overwintering adults in northwestern China. Furthermore, our study demonstrated spatial heterogeneity in the phenological response of G. molesta to climate warming across China. This study elucidates the phenological response of G. molesta to climate warming, offering valuable insights for predicting future pest infestations and informing adaptive pest management strategies in fruit tree cultivation. TRADITIONAL knowledge ,LEADERSHIP ,YOUNG men ,CIRCUMCISION ,WESTERN civilization - Abstract
Ulwaluko or Traditional Male Circumcision is an old African practice that has survived years of criticism and attenuation of Western civilization through religion and education. With the growing Western influence on the continent, there is mounting questioning of the virtues of ulwaluko in some circles even amongst Africans themselves. Proponents of ulwaluko see the ritual as a potent tool for leadership development amongst young men. By adopting a qualitative research design, the authors collected data by interviewing young men who recently performed the ritual. Adopting a phenomenological approach helped the author understand the lived experiences of the target group. The researcher found that over time, there have been influences that sought to weaken and derail the intended objectives of ulwaluko. The researcher also found that leadership development has always been and continues to be integral to the ritual. The recommendations from the study are that the custodians of African cultural beliefs, customs, and values should reclaim their scope of influence and dominance on cultural practices. Greater awareness also needs to be created of the virtues of ulwaluko particularly amongst the younger generations. The author concludes that ulwaluko still plays a pivotal and prominent role in leadership development amongst young African males and that its benefits cannot be undermined. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article introduces novel tools to automatically generate pertinent Ada values in order to produce higher quality tests for Ada subprograms. A first tool will generate valid Ada values based on a structural analysis of the types of the parameters of the subprogram under test following various customizable strategies. Those values will then be filtered in order to satisfy the specifications of the subprogram, and new coverage criteria for executable specifications will be used to assess the relevance of the generated testsuite. This first set of values will then be used as seeds both for a fuzzing process, and a symbolic execution campaign, from which values of interest will be then extracted. This integrated process will enable users to generate a high value starting test corpus, which can then be expanded upon by domain-specific tests. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Patrick Chamoiseau's inter-generational fascination with the writing of Saint-John Perse (SJP) is sustained, intense, sentient, and highly generative. The focus on SJP amplifies the connective timbre of Chamoiseau's own writing, confirming the relation to the "pays natal" and to the "tout-monde" as central to both writers' poetics. Five moves constitute the high points of this particular realization of a Glissantian "poetics of Relation": the SJP intertext in Chamoiseau's childhood memoirs and fiction; the two-hander construction of SJP's poetic persona in Lettres créoles (1991); the sentimenthèque disseminated across Écrire en pays dominé (1997); and, most crucially, the "Méditations à Saint-John Perse", an oral presentation from 1995 which was eventually integrated into Chamoiseau's 2013 book-length account of his "Magnetic Liaisons" with Césaire, Saint-John Perse and Glissant. The Méditations articulate a critique of criticism in favor of a demiurgic poetics of self-reflexive magnification and esteem even as they perform a dance of ethno-social and intergenerational convergence. This article examines revolutionary episodes, particularly the events of January 1946 in Haiti, which stage the exclusion/inclusion of women's bodies in post-revolutionary politics. These were tensions with which Haiti's first revolutionary generation had already grappled following national independence in 1804. Here, we will consider how the revolution was gendered, how it was experienced through the female body, and how the women of the revolution were represented in Haiti's cultural and journalistic sphere of the mid-1940s. We will then examine how revolutionary women and the events of January 1946 have been portrayed in Haitian literature, including the writings of former revolutionaries like Gérald Bloncourt and novels by women such as Marie Vieux Chauvet and Yanick Lahens. Through the tradition of a female revolutionary spirit, its revival in 1946, and its subsequent literary reincarnations, this article examine how Haiti's revolutionary women have historically played a role in shaping national identity and how fictional landscapes continue to be shaped by the collective memory of previous generations of female revolutionaries. It concludes that taking gendered, embodied, and intergenerational perspectives into account can be a useful way of diversifying our understanding of Haiti's multiple historic legacies of revolution. The study calls for greater scholarly engagement with the generational experiences of the socialist working class in China. Through an analysis of collective actions in response to the reform of state-owned enterprises at the turn of the century, the paper divides the Chinese socialist working class into the Revolution Generation and the Transition Generation. Amid the restructuring of the state sector, workers from the Revolution Generation exhibited a proclivity for civic activism and petitions, while the Transition Generation, though grappling with unemployment, largely refrained from public dissent, instead expressing sentiments of bewilderment and resignation. The study illustrates how the differing lived experiences of two working-class generations played a pivotal role in shaping their interpretation of grievances and contention repertoire. The article underscores the significance of generational perspectives in gaining insight into the destiny of the Chinese working class, advocating for the integration of such perspectives into the broader fields of deindustrialization and labor studies. Voltinism and life‐history traits of the invasive fall armyworm (FAW) Spodoptera frugiperda were investigated under semi‐natural conditions for a period of 2 years. The FAW invaded the corn field in the suburbs of Nanchang (28°46′ N, 115°50′ E) in early summer and produced six complete generations. FAW had the characteristics of short developmental time, high survival rates and strong fecundity. The development time of female pupae was significantly faster than that of male pupae, resulting in the emergence of female pupae earlier than male pupae. Except for the sixth generation in 2021, there was no significant difference between female and male sex ratio, which was close to 1:1. FAW showed male‐bias sexual size dimorphism with male pupae being significantly larger than female pupae. Unlike pupal weight, in most generations, male adult weighed significantly less than females, because the weight loss of male pupae during metamorphosis was significantly greater than that of female pupae. The temporal variation of pupal weight did not conform to the temperature–size rule. Compared with 22.8°C, the 29.2°C high temperature not only significantly reduced the development time of larvae but also significantly increased pupal weight. The adult fecundity feeding on fresh corn leaves was higher than that feeding on live corn plants in most generations. In most generations, pupal weight was positively correlated with larval development time and adult weight was positively correlated with fecundity. In conclusion, climate differences between generations and years have significant effects on developmental time, body weight, sexual size dimorphism and fecundity of the FAW. These results add to the understanding of the evolution of life‐history traits in the FAW and may have important implications for predicting population dynamics of the FAW and optimising control strategies. The metaverse is an emerging interactive domain that enables people to participate in an array of activities utilizing cutting-edge technologies. Generation Z perceives no substantial distinction between their virtual and actual identities, regarding the virtual world as an extension of reality. As an attempt to apply Bourdieu's theory of cultural taste and cultural capital to the area of the metaverse avatar, investigates the impact of users' cultural tastes on the avatars they create and experience in the metaverse. The research employed both focus group interviews and individual in-depth interviews with users of Generation Z. The study demonstrated that Generation Z users exhibit unrestricted engagement in the metaverse, although their behavior is significantly affected by their economic situation. One's cultural tastes, influenced by diverse interactions with their parents, greatly impact how they engage in cultural activities in the metaverse. Three categories were identified from the perception of avatars: Idealized Self-Representation Avatars, Atypical Self-Representation Avatars, and Integrated Self-Representation Avatars. Perceiving avatars as an extension of the self was associated with higher cultural capital. Participants held divergent perspectives on the metaverse, with certain individuals regarding it as a realm of imagination or a limitless arena for activities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Taxation is Indonesia's largest source of national income. Public facilities such as school, hospital, bridges, airport, highway, and more are positive outcome taxpayer contributions to national development. Taxpayer compliance is the main key to generate national income. The Tax Service Office (KPP) in Pati is a unit of the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) with a broad service area covering Pati Regency and Rembang Regency. This study aims to extract the root causes of taxpayer compliance issues at KPP Pati, focusing on office services, officer resources, taxpayer resources, and modern tax administration using technology analyzed through a fishbone diagram. Qualitative research method was employed to gather insights from 10 informants for gaining multiple points of view representing different perspectives on the four aforementioned aspects. Informants included a frontliner of NPWP, a frontliner customer service representative, two village officials, two account representatives, a service department head, and three taxpayers from different generations. The results revealed that the role of the millennial generation is significant due to their population dominance, while poor digitalization platforms at the DJP were getting worse. Improving digital platform functionality is crucial to enhance taxpayer compliance in the current era. This includes initiatives such as digital marketing, digital account, digital application, and transparent reporting practices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BIOMASS energy ,SUSTAINABILITY ,ENERGY demand management ,CARBON emissions ,ENERGY consumption ,RENEWABLE energy sources - Abstract
With increased worldwide energy demand and carbon dioxide emissions from the use of fossil fuels, severe problems are being experienced in modern times. Energy is one of the most important resources for humankind, and its needs have been drastically increasing due to energy consumption, the rapid depletion of fossil fuels, and environmental crises. Therefore, it is important to identify and search for an alternative to fossil fuels that provides energy in a reliable, constant, and sustainable way that could use available energy sources efficiently for alternative renewable sources of fuel that are clean, non-toxic, and eco-friendly. In this way, there is a dire need to develop technologies for biofuel production with a focus on economic feasibility, sustainability, and renewability. Several technologies, such as biological and thermochemical approaches, are derived from abundant renewable biological sources, such as biomass and agricultural waste, using advanced conversion technologies for biofuel production. Biofuels are non-toxic, biodegradable, and recognized as an important sustainable greener energy source to conventional fossil fuels with lower carbon emissions, combat air pollution, empower rural communities, and increase economic growth and energy supply. The purpose of this review is to explain the basic aspects of biofuels and their sustainability criteria, with a particular focus on conversion technologies for biofuel production, challenges, and future perspectives. In the sharing economy, P2P platforms must identify the target audience for their marketing campaigns to spend their marketing budgets effectively. The challenge is to convince those who are afraid of sharing with strangers. We analyse participant behaviour by testing whether people's willingness to participate differs depending on whether they shared with known or unknown people. Our study focuses not only on sharing with strangers and exploring this phenomenon but also on sharing with people we know to verify that these people are generally willing to share idle assets. We define four groups of sharing economy participants depending on whether they know the counterparty: (1) active participants afraid of sharing with strangers, (2) active participants indifferent, (3) active participants preferring to share with strangers, and (4) inactive participants. Generation Z will most likely share their idle assets with strangers, while Generation Y does not mind who they share with. Generation X prefers to share with strangers but is also the most inactive. The demand side is more complicated: Generation Z does not care who they demand from, but other generations' preferences depend on the asset type. Again, Generation X is the most inactive. We assume that a generational perspective is essential for P2P marketing mix settings. We summarise new findings from not only a theoretical but also a practical perspective. Implications for Central European audience: We provide a new perspective on sharing idle assets in the context of sharing with strangers. We emphasize a generational perspective and use cluster analysis to define four groups of participants from the perspective of sharing with strangers. P2P platforms operating in the sharing economy can gain more insights into Czech customers' consumer behaviour depending on whether they know the counterparty. The results can also benefit managers in other Central European countries. The findings can also contribute to the theoretical knowledge of the sharing economy and its implications for reducing marketing costs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Transmission and Agreement: Reading and the Contemporary Northern Irish Novel. This paper evaluates the capacity of the contemporary Northern Irish novel to act as an agent of transmission for a ‘post-Troubles’ readership, one distanced by a generation from the 1998 Good Friday Agreement that symbolised the partial end of sectarian violence. The critic Liam Harte suggests that “no part of modern Europe (if not the world) has greater claim than Northern Ireland to the mantle of most-narrativized region”, but the transmissive function of fictional works in this context remain under-critiqued. Here, I assess the aspirations of novelistic narrative to cater for what Premesh Lalu has described, in the context of post-apartheid South African art forms, as ‘psychic repair’ (Undoing Apartheid, 2023). The essay engages the 2018 novel Milkman, by Northern Irish author Anna Burns, to ask how fictional narrative transmits the detail of the past across a generation first, in parallel to other literary and artistic genres, and second, in relation to an expanding archive of ongoing legal tribunals and government incentives directed towards the production of an ‘official history’ for Northern Ireland. Through attention to the self-conscious foregrounding of forensic reading practice by Burns and fellow writers, I show the necessary place of fictional recovery in the field of political and cultural memory.
