In the Philippines, everyone is presumed to know the law. Laws in the Philippines take effect after fifteen days following the completion of their publication either in the Official Gazette or in a newspaper of general circulation in the Philippines. Respondents in this mini research were local teachers and professors from secondary and tertiary levels within the National Capital Region (NCR) with some of them from outside the NCR. Survey questionnaires were administered in this study through convenient and snowball sampling techniques. The initial pulse from the respondents indicated that they have a good percentage of the knowledge of the six identified laws. Law 13/2013 was published in the Official State Gazette on 25 May and expressly clarified that concessions existing as at the entry into force of Law 27/1992 can benefit from the extensions set out in article 82.2, as currently in force, of the Consolidated Text of the Law on State Ports and the Merchant Marine. Faced with an imminent French invasion, the Spanish Cortes ordered the Royal Family, the Government and the main political institutions to relocate to Seville, which they did on the 10th of April 1823. In Seville, the Gaceta Española —which appeared on the day immediately after the arrival of the government in Seville— became the new voice of the constitutional government, replacing the Gaceta de Madrid, which continued to be published albeit in a city (Madrid) that was no longer the seat of government. In this article we offer an analysis of the Gaceta Española (Seville-Cádiz, April-October 1823) based on documentation held at the Archivo Histórico Nacional (Madrid) , which will allows us to understand the plurality and nature of the challenges faced by a periodical whose official nature meant that it could not be cancelled or privatised, while at the same time speaks for the crisis that, since the beginning of the Liberal Triennium, affected government publications.

Serving an itinerant and soon besieged government, the Gaceta Española (Seville - Cádiz, April to October 1823) had to face many problems, including access to diversified and qualified sources of information in the civil war context. This article aims at identifying which sources editors could access, which kind of information they delivered to their readership, and in which measure difficulty of access to sources impacted on their journalistic practice and writing.

An introduction is presented in which the editor discusses articles in the issue on topics including the use of Dutch in eighteenth-century Japan, the portrayal of Amsterdam in Jean Crosnier's L'Année Burlesque (1682) and wartime propaganda in the Gazette van Detroit during World War I.

The publicly available government gazette (often called dibao 邸報) that was published in a variety of formats in imperial China has recently caught new academic interest both in China and in the West. While most of these studies focus on the Peking Gazette (jingbao 京報) in the (late) nineteenth century, information about the gazette for earlier times remains very scarce. To address this gap, the present study focuses on the gazette from the Qianlong period (1736–1795). It uses and describes both Chinese sources, specifically the tizou shijian 題奏事件, and European sources, especially the French translations of gazettes by Jean-Joseph-Marie Amiot (1718–1793). A case study of translated reports on the Siku quanshu 四庫全書 sent to Europe shows how the Chinese gazette became part of a remarkable and lively global information network. Résumé: Le journal officiel du gouvernement (souvent appelé dibao 邸報), publié dans divers formats en Chine impériale, a récemment suscité un nouvel intérêt académique tant en Chine qu' en Occident. Si la plupart de ces études portent sur la Gazette de Pékin (jingbao 京報) à la (fin) du XIXe siècle, les informations sur la gazette des temps anciens restent très rares. Pour combler cette lacune, la présente étude se concentre sur la gazette de la période Qianlong (1736–1795). This article includes a comparative analysis of eight of the most important newspapers published in eighteenth-century Europe: the London Gazette, the Gazette de France, the Gaceta de Madrid, the Gazeta de Lisboa, the Gazette de Amsterdam, the Gazette de Leyde, the Gazette de Cologne and the Morning Chronicle. It surveys the contents of the 550 issues and more than eleven thousand articles published by these eight newspapers from January to June 1784. This analysis reveals patterns in the contents of each periodical and what kinds of news it was likely to publish, as well as the interconnections between these newspapers and how they exchanged information. It also demonstrates the spatial elements of news, showing the speed at which information moved in Europe during the second half of the eighteenth century. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article presents the emergence of the three major French-language gazettes published in the Dutch Republic during the seventeenth and eighteenth century, the Gazette d'Amsterdam, Gazette de Leyde, and the Gazette de Rotterdam. All of them had Huguenot publishers, especially after the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes. The gazettes became famous during the two major wars of the King Louis XIV, the War of the Great Alliance, and the War of the Spanish Succession. They were circulated in large numbers not only among the Huguenot diaspora but also in France. At that time, France had only one gazette, the constitutional Gazette de Paris. The three Huguenot gazettes presented updated reports from every major city or military camp. Their reports and their attitude towards France, however, varied. This article enlightens the attitude of each Huguenot gazette towards France, presenting reports of the last two years of the War of the Great Alliance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The relationship between iconography and currency production in Greece depends on mechanisms of production of state objects. Collective memory is invoked through the issue of coins, as new political regimes emerge. Hence, coins carry not only economic but also sociopolitical values. The publication of coins in the Government Gazette offers a glimpse of the involvement of the state in coin production. The entanglement between people and coins is based on the ability of the latter to exercise social agency and generate relationships of mutual dependence. In this regard, coins constitute a means of naturalization of the Greek national narrative through their materiality, and their iconography conveys a political concern to create trustworthy currency. The persistent selection of classical Greek designs for twentieth-century coins and the conservative iconographic expansion after the 1960s demonstrate the national identification of these designs as agents of social and political interconnections that had acquired the authoritative status to create the necessary trust in the coins themselves. Benjamin Franklin "retired" from printing in 1747 but retained ownership of his press and a close working relationship with his printer, and Pennsylvania Gazette Editor David Hall. From King George's War in 1747 through the French and Indian War, Assemblyman Franklin used his press and the Gazette to forward his political objective of militarizing the Quaker Colony. During the French and Indian War, the Gazette pioneered standards of accurate reporting relying on eyewitness accounts, multiple sourcing, and networks of information that other presses imitated. This reporting provides vivid detail of the Allegheny Indians' successful strategy of using terror to influence Pennsylvania to sue for peace on Indian terms in 1758. At the same time, Franklin, Hall, and the Gazette moved beyond the reporting of fact and sensationalized Indian violence—not to sell papers but to militarize the colony for self-defense with fortifications, an army, and scalp bounties. The Allegheny Indians and the Gazette's tactics both achieved their intended goals, but also carried the unintended consequence of the ethnic cleansing of Pennsylvania. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

During the Crimean War, a series of patriotic texts by prominent Don writer I.S. Ul'yanov were published in The Don Military Gazette. This article represents an attempt to analyze these texts and compare them with the latest official Don Cossack propaganda. The author comes to the conclusion that I.S. Ul'yanov's oeuvre clearly features a plotline that would later become typical for that kind of propaganda. This plotline is a panegyric for a Don hero who, rather than representing a real historical person, epitomizes an ideal Cossack, someone to whom the author ascribes some of the ideas and statements that matter to himself. Of particular mention in this respect is Ul'yanov's work 'Military Ingenuity', which could qualify as a historically credible narrative but would eventually be positioned by his younger contemporaries as a literary story. Certain elements thereof were even included in the early 20th century in 'The Pictures of the Past Quiet Don', a book released at the behest of the military authorities which was intended to be read by those in military units and schools. Since the enactment of the 1996 Arbitration Act, the arbitrability of disputes in Brazil followed the general rule in which disputes involving disposable patrimonial rights could be submitted to arbitration. In 2015, the Brazilian legislative enacted an Act amending some of the rules of the 1996 Act. The general approach to arbitrability did not change but there was an attempt to introduce provisions to the act regarding the arbitrability of disputes concerning consumer law, labour law, corporate matters, and the participation of the state or state-owned companies in arbitration. The first two efforts failed and the last two prospered. This article explores if the changes made to arbitrability by the new Act were actually necessary in face of the existing doctrinal and jurisprudential understanding of arbitrability of disputes in Brazil. It argues that the general approach to arbitrability already addressed the innovations brought by the new statute. As a result, it asserts that the changes in the law were not a novelty as the approach to arbitrability of disputes in Brazil was already settled by the 1996 Act as well as the case law.
