Abstract

Uncontrollable blowout is a great drilling accident. For gas kick during drilling, in order to prevent uncontrollble blowout, the gas-liquild two-phase flow model is established, considering the kick characteristics in well kick and well killing process, and it is solved with finite difference method, given initial values in different periods. The results indicated that a one-to-one correspondence was established between standpipe pressure and kick rate and height while drilling, and another one-to-one correspondence was also established between casing pressure and kick rate and height while well killing. Based on the findings above, the standpipe pressure method and casing pressure method were proposed to detect kick, and the related coefficient method was used to judge the kick rate and height during drilling and killing. Meanwhile, a computer system was developed to judge kick velocity and height automatically, which provided a theoretical basis for kick parameter judgement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The accident probability calculation of the gas fields with high sulfur content, high pressure, and high yield (3-highs) has been the focal and difficult point in risk assessment for gas well drilling accidents in China and abroad. In order to calculate the accident rate reasonably, the paper used the fault tree method and Bayesian updating to research the accident probability of the gas well drilling with 3-highs. Firstly, the paper described the mechanism of the accidents using fault tree analysis (FTA), then made use of Bayesian method to update existing statistic data for reducing uncertainty, and got the probability distributions of the top event and related incidents with Monte Carlo simulation finally. Empirical results show that the method could effectively reduce the uncertainty arisen from limited sample data and judge difference from experts, and could provide reference for quantitative risk assessment of the gas well drilling with 3-highs. Collision accidents during the process of vertical well section drilling can be easily produced in cluster directional wells. Taking Z148-X 6 well as an example, the whole handling process of wellbore collision accidents are discussed form the aspects of how the accident happened, the reason and the technical measures of the accident, et al. lots of beneficial revelations have been gained from the accident. The successful treatment of this wellbore collision accident not only save the life of two offshore oil and gas wells, but also provides important reference for solving the kind of accident. The article discusses risks related to drilling superdeep gas wells. Lone Star Producing Co. failed in its attempts to drill into Oklahoma's Anadarko Basin to look for gas after the bit tapped into liquid sulfur under tremendous pressure, causing hydrogen sulfide to eat away at the high-tensile steel drill string. The number of completed wells below 20,000 feet or more in the U.S. has increased to 74 in 1974 from 49 in 1972 and 57 in 1971.
