Abstract: The present work continues a series of the KEDR measurements of the R value that started in 2010 at the VEPP-4M e+e− collider. By combining new data with our previous results in this energy range we measured the values of Ruds and R at nine center-of-mass energies between 3.08 and 3.72 GeV. The total accuracy is about or better than 2.6% at most of energy points with a systematic uncertainty of about 1.9%. Together with the previous precise R measurement at KEDR in the energy range 1.84–3.05 GeV, it constitutes the most detailed high-precision R measurement near the charmonium production threshold.

Abstract: The product of the electronic width of the ψ(2S) meson and the branching fraction of its decay to the muon pair was measured in the e+e−→ψ(2S)→μ+μ− process using nine data sets corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 6.5 pb−1 collected with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M electron–positron collider:Γee×Bμμ=19.3±0.3±0.5eV. Adding the previous KEDR results on hadronic and leptonic channels, the values of the ψ(2S) electronic width were obtained under two assumptions: either with the assumption of lepton universalityΓee=2.279±0.015±0.042keV or without it, summing up hadronic and three independent leptonic channelsΓee=2.282±0.015±0.042keV. Abstract: Using the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e+e− collider, we have measured the values of Ruds and R at seven points of the center-of-mass energy between 3.12 and 3.72 GeV. The total achieved accuracy is about or better than 3.3% at most of energy points with a systematic uncertainty of about 2.1%. At the moment it is the most accurate measurement of R(s) in this energy range.

Abstract: We present the analysis of all KEDR data on the determination of J/ψ and ψ(2S) masses. The data comprise six scans of J/ψ and seven scans of ψ(2S) which were performed at the VEPP-4M e+e− collider in 2002–2008. The beam energy was determined using the resonance depolarization method. The detector and accelerator conditions during scans were very different that increases the reliability of the averaged results. The analysis accounts for partial correlations of systematic uncertainties on the masses. The following mass values were obtained:MJ/ψ=3096.900±0.002±0.006 MeV,Mψ(2S)=3686.099±0.004±0.009 MeV. These results supersede our previous measurements published in 2003 and 2012.

Abstract: Using the inclusive photon spectrum based on a data sample collected at the J/ψ peak with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e+e− collider, we measured the rate of the radiative decay J/ψ→γηc as well as ηc mass and width. Taking into account an asymmetric photon lineshape we obtained Γγηc0=2.98±0.18−0.33+0.15keV, Mηc=2983.5±1.4−3.6+1.6MeV/c2, Γηc=27.2±3.1−2.6+5.4MeV. Keywords: Charmonium, Radiative decays

Abstract: At the VEPP-4M collider the record accuracy of 10−6 of an absolute beam energy calibration was achieved with the resonant depolarization technique in the energy range including the J/ψ, ψ(2S), ψ(3770) resonances as well as the τ - lepton production threshold. This report discusses the methods, equipment and the results.

Abstract: The present work continues a series of the KEDR measurements of the $R$ value that started in 2010 at the VEPP-4M $e^+e^-$ collider. By combining new data with our previous results in this energy range we measured the values of $R_{\text{uds}}$ and $R$ at nine center-of-mass energies between 3.08 and 3.72 GeV. The total accuracy is about or better than $2.6\%$ at most of energy points with a systematic uncertainty of about $1.9\%$. Together with the previous precise $R$ measurement at KEDR in the energy range 1.84-3.05 GeV, it constitutes the most detailed high-precision $R$ measurement near the charmonium production threshold., arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1610.02827 and substantial text overlap with arXiv:1510.02667

Abstract: The product of the electronic width of the J/ψ meson and the branching fractions of its decay to hadrons and electrons has been measured using the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e + e − collider. The obtained values are $$ \begin{array}{c}\hfill {\Gamma}_{ee}\left(J/\psi \right)=5.550\pm 0.056\pm 0.089\kern0.5em \mathrm{keV},\hfill \\ {}\hfill {\Gamma}_{ee}\left(J/\psi \right)\cdotp {\mathrm{\mathcal{B}}}_{\mathrm{hadrons}}\left(J/\psi \right)=4.884\pm 0.048\pm 0.078\kern0.5em \mathrm{keV},\hfill \\ {}\hfill {\Gamma}_{ee}\left(J/\psi \right)\cdotp {\mathrm{\mathcal{B}}}_{ee}\left(J/\psi \right)=0.3331\pm 0.0066\pm 0.0040\kern0.5em \mathrm{keV}.\hfill \end{array} $$ Γ e e J / ψ = 5.550 ± 0.056 ± 0.089 keV , Γ e e J / ψ · ℬ hadrons J / ψ = 4.884 ± 0.048 ± 0.078 keV , Γ e e J / ψ · ℬ e e J / ψ = 0.3331 ± 0.0066 ± 0.0040 keV . The uncertainties shown are statistical and systematic, respectively. Using the result presented and the world-average value of the electronic branching fraction, one obtains the total width of the J/ψ meson: $$ \Gamma =92.94\pm 1.83\kern0.5em \mathrm{keV}. $$ Γ = 92.94 ± 1.83 keV . These results are consistent with the previous experiments.

Abstract: We present the analysis of all KEDR data on the determination of J / ψ and ψ ( 2 S ) masses. The data comprise six scans of J / ψ and seven scans of ψ ( 2 S ) which were performed at the VEPP-4M e + e − collider in 2002–2008. The beam energy was determined using the resonance depolarization method. The detector and accelerator conditions during scans were very different that increases the reliability of the averaged results. The analysis accounts for partial correlations of systematic uncertainties on the masses. The following mass values were obtained: M J / ψ = 3096.900 ± 0.002 ± 0.006 MeV , M ψ ( 2 S ) = 3686.099 ± 0.004 ± 0.009 MeV . These results supersede our previous measurements published in 2003 and 2012.

Abstract: Using the inclusive photon spectrum based on a data sample collected at the J / ψ peak with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e + e − collider, we measured the rate of the radiative decay J / ψ → γ η c as well as η c mass and width. Taking into account an asymmetric photon lineshape we obtained Γ γ η c 0 = 2.98 ± 0.18 − 0.33 + 0.15 keV , M η c = 2983.5 ± 1.4 − 3.6 + 1.6 MeV / c 2 , Γ η c = 27.2 ± 3.1 − 2.6 + 5.4 MeV .

Abstract: The ratio of the electron and muon widths of the J / ψ meson has been measured using direct J / ψ decays in the KEDR experiment at the VEPP-4M electron–positron collider. The result Γ e + e − ( J / ψ ) / Γ μ + μ − ( J / ψ ) = 1.0022 ± 0.0044 ± 0.0048 ( 0.65 % ) is in good agreement with the lepton universality. The experience collected during this analysis will be used for J / ψ lepton width determination with up to 1% accuracy.

Abstract: Using the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e + e − collider, we have determined the values of R at thirteen points of the center-of-mass energy between 1.84 and 3.05 GeV. The achieved accuracy is about or better than 3.9 % at most of the energy points with a systematic uncertainty less than 2.4 % .

Abstract: A high-precision determination of the main parameters of the ψ ( 2 S ) resonance has been performed with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e + e − collider in three scans of the ψ ( 2 S ) – ψ ( 3770 ) energy range. Fitting the energy dependence of the multihadron cross section in the vicinity of the ψ ( 2 S ) we obtained the mass value M = 3686.114 ± 0.007 ± 0.011 − 0.012 + 0.002 MeV and the product of the electron partial width by the branching fraction into hadrons Γ e e × B h = 2.233 ± 0.015 ± 0.037 ± 0.020 keV . The first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The third uncertainty quoted is an estimate of the model dependence of the result due to assumptions on the interference effects in the cross section of the single-photon e + e − annihilation to hadrons explicitly considered in this work. Implicitly, the same assumptions were employed to obtain the charmonium leptonic width and the absolute branching fractions in many experiments. Using the result presented and the world average values of the electron and hadron branching fractions, one obtains the electron partial width and the total width of the ψ ( 2 S ) : Γ e e = 2.282 ± 0.015 ± 0.038 ± 0.021 keV , Γ = 296 ± 2 ± 8 ± 3 keV . These results are consistent with and more than two times more precise than any of the previous experiments.

Abstract: We report results of a search for narrow resonances in e + e − annihilation at center-of-mass energies between 1.85 and 3.1 GeV performed with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e + e − collider. The upper limit on the leptonic width of a narrow resonance Γ e e R ⋅ Br ( R → h a d r ) 120 eV has been obtained (at 90% C.L.).

Abstract: We present a study of the inclusive photon spectrum from 6.3 million J/ψ decays collected with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e+e- collider. We measure the branching fraction of the radiative decay J/ψ → ηcγ, ηc width and mass. Taking into account an asymmetric photon line shape we obtain: Mηc = (2978.1 ± 1.4 ± 2.0) MeV/c2, Γηc = (43.5 ± 5.4 ± 15.8) MeV, [Formula: see text].

Abstract: The products of the electron width of the J/ψ meson and the branching fraction of its decays to the lepton pairs were measured using data from the KEDR experiment at the VEPP-4M electron–positron collider. The results are Γee×Γee/Γ=0.3323±0.0064(stat.)±0.0048(syst.) keV, Γee×Γμμ/Γ=0.3318±0.0052(stat.)±0.0063(syst.) keV. Their combinations Γee×(Γee+Γμμ)/Γ=0.6641±0.0082(stat.)±0.0100(syst.) keV, Γee/Γμμ=1.002±0.021(stat.)±0.013(syst.) can be used to improve the accuracy of the leptonic and full widths and test leptonic universality.

Abstract: The status of the experiment on the precise $\tau$ lepton mass measurement running at the VEPP-4M collider with the KEDR detector is reported. The mass value is evaluated from the $\tau^+\tau^-$ cross section behaviour around the production threshold. The preliminary result based on 6.7 pb$^{-1}$ of data is $m_{\tau}=1776.80^{+0.25}_{-0.23} \pm 0.15$ MeV. Using 0.8 pb$^{-1}$ of data collected at the $\psi'$ peak the preliminary result is also obtained: $\Gamma_{ee}B_{\tau\tau}(\psi') = 7.2 \pm 2.1$ eV., Comment: 6 pages, 8 figures; The 9th International Workshop on Tau-Lepton Physics, Tau06

Abstract: A precise τ lepton mass measurement performed at the VEPP-4M collider with the KEDR detector is reported. The mass value is evaluated from the τ+τ− cross section behavior around the production threshold. The result based on 6.7 pb−1 of data is m τ = 1776.81 −0.23 +0.25 ± 0.15 MeV. Using 0.8 pb−1 of data collected at the ψ′ peak, we have also determined that Γ ee B ττ(ψ′) = 9.0 ± 2.6 eV.

Abstract: An experiment, using the new detector Kedr, on the precise measurement of the τ-lepton mass is being readied on the VEPP-4M. The resonance depolarization method is used for absolute calibration of the particle energy. The main difficulty in using a polarized beam at the τ-lepton production threshold (1777 MeV) is the closeness of an integral spin resonance (1763 MeV). Experiments observing the polarization of particles in VEPP-4M after injection of the polarized beam from the VEPP-3 storage booster with different detunings from resonance have been performed. For comparison, the depolarization time of a beam due to quantum fluctuations in the presence of characteristic disturbances of the guiding field is calculated. The temporal stability of the energy indications is studied.

Abstract: The status of the experiment on the precise τ lepton mass measurement running at the VEPP-4M collider with the KEDR detector is reported. The mass value is evaluated from the τ + τ − cross section behavior around the production threshold. The preliminary result based on 15.2 pb −1 of data is m τ = 1776.69 −0.19 +0.17 ± 0.15 MeV .

Abstract: This paper reviews physical results obtained at the e+e− collider VEPP-4 with the MD-1 detector. The results of experiments on the ϒ meson physics and study of the hadron production in continuum in the energy region 7.2–10.3 GeV as well as the results of study of the two photon reactions are presented. Among results obtained in the upsilon physics: the precise measurement of the ϒ(1S), ϒ(2S), ϒ(3S) masses and the precise determination of the ϒ(1S) and ϒ(2S) electronic widths. In the experiments on study of the hadron production in continuum the precise measurement of the R was carried out. The peculiarity of the detector is the magnetic field transverse to the orbit plane which provided the possibility to study two photon reactions with tagging one or both scattered electrons even at zero emission angle. Among results on the γγ reactions is the measurement of the two photon total hadronic cross section performed in the double-tag mode. In the QED experiments a new QED effect — the impact parameter cut-off in single bremsstrahlung was discovered.

Abstract: Bose-Einstein correlations in direct γ(1S) decays and continuum in the energy region √s=7.2−10.3 GeV have been studied using data taken with the MD-1 detector at VEPP-4 storage ring. Assuming gaussian density of the pion source the data indicate the radius of the sourceπ=0.73±0.10±0.04 fm for direct γ (1S) decays andπ=0.83±0.22±0.05 fm for the continuum. The correlation strengthsλ for both data samples also are similar. Thus Bose-Einstein correlations do not reveal a noticeable difference between quark and gluon fragmentation.

Abstract: Using the MD-1 detector at the VEPP-4e+e− strorage ring we have measured the inclusive Λ and370-1 production rates in direct Γ(1S) decays $$\begin{gathered} \left\langle {n_\Lambda (\Upsilon (1S)_{dir} )} \right\rangle = 0.194 \pm 0.018 \pm 0.017, \hfill \\ \left\langle {n_\Xi - (\Upsilon (1S)_{dir} )} \right\rangle = 0.038 \pm 0.015 \pm 0.009. \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ The Λ momentum spectrum in direct Γ(1S) decays was obtained.

Abstract: Analyzing the data recorded with the MD-1 detector operated at the VEPP-4 storage ring we have determined the ϒ(1S) resonance leptonic partial width and mass. We find $$\begin{gathered} \Gamma _{ee} = 1.29 \pm 0.03 \pm 0.03keV, \hfill \\ M = 9460.59 \pm 0.09 \pm 0.05MeV/c^2 \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ M=9460.59±0.09±0.05 MeV/c2. This new value of the ϒ(1S) mass should supersede the previously published value [11] based on almost the same statistics.

Abstract: The total cross section for γγ→hadrons was measured as a function of the invariant massW of the system (1.25 to 4.25 GeV) at thee+e−-collider VEPP-4 with the detector MD-1. For the first time the data were obtained by detecting both scattered leptons with almost zero emission angles. The mean squared four momentum transfer 〈q2〉 is −0.005 GeV2, the rmsW resolution is 100–250 MeV. The data on the mean charged multiplicity 〈nC〉 are well described by the function 〈nC〉=(1.62 ±0.37)+(1.83±0.45)·ln(W(GeV)). TheW dependence of the total cross section is consistent with the theoretical prediction σ(nb)=240+270/W(GeV).

We obtain Γee = (1.266 ± 0.023 ± 0.038) keV, Bμμ = (2.12 ± 0.20 ± 0.10)% and Γtot = (59.7 ± 5.7 ± 3.7) keV.

Abstract: The series of experiments on mass measurements of J/Ψ, Ψ ψ, ψ′, X and D mesons have been done on VEPP4-M collider. The accuracy of obtained masses values for Ψ mesons exceeded world value more than 3 times. Experiment on mass measurement of tau lepton is in progress. All these experiments require absolute energy calibration of the beams. Resonant depolarization technique has been used for most accurate energy measurement with relative accuracy of 1 ppm (10-6). Compton backscattering effect is used in developing facility for fast energy measurements. Moller scattering of the beam on polarized gas jet target has been used for beam polarization measurements.

Abstract: The method for RF orbit separation of electron and positron beams in the VEPP-4M collider is developed and demonstrated. This system is designed to replace the conventional electrostatic orbit separator in the prospective CPT test experiment based on comparison of the spin precession frequencies of electron and positron. The electrostatic separator may yield an unacceptable systematic error of 10−6 in the experiment against the required one of better than 10−8 which can be provided with the RF system.

Abstract: A new high precision measurement of the $J/\psi$- and $\psi'$-meson masses has been performed at the VEPP-4M collider using the KEDR detector. The resonant depolarization method has been employed for the absolute calibration of the beam energy. The following mass values have been obtained: $M_{J/\psi} = 3096.917 \pm 0.010 \pm 0.007$ MeV, $M_{\psi'} = 3686.111 \pm 0.025 \pm 0.009$ MeV. The relative measurement accuracy has reached $4. 10^{-6}$ for $J/\psi$ and $7. 10^{-6}$ for $\psi'$, approximately 3 times better than in the previous precise experiments., Comment: 12 pages, 4 tables, 10 figures

46. Proposals for B- and phi-meson factories in Novosibirsk

Abstract: Currently, several electron-positron collider projects with extremely high luminosity for the 10-14-, 3-5-, and 1.0-1.2-GeV range of energies in the center-of-mass system are under discussion. These facilities are referred to as B-, C-, and phi -factories in accordance with the particle families to be studied. The new generation of factories will offer the possibility of resolving many urgent problems in modern physics. The possibility of creating such facilities at the Novosibirsk Institute of Nuclear Physics (INP) is being studied. These studies have resulted in a proposal to build a set of facilities capable of producing colliding electron-positron beams with high luminosity. This set includes a facility with colliding electron-positron beams at energies up to 2*6.55 GeV, with a luminosity of nearly 5*10/sup 33/ cm/sup -2/ s/sup -1/ (B-factory); a facility with colliding electron-positron beams at energies up to 2*0.5 GeV, with a luminosity higher than 10/sup 33/ cm/sup -2/ s/sup -1/ ( phi -factory); and an injector providing intense electron and positron bunches for the above facilities. The basic component of the injector is assumed to be a linac at an energy of 7 GeV, designed on the basis of accelerating modules being developed at the INP. >

Abstract: Since 2004 the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M collider has taken several data sets in the ψ(2S) region, acquiring total luminosity of about 7 pb-1, which corresponds to more than 3.5 × 106ψ(2S). We report the preliminary value of Γee × Γμμ/Γ = 19.4 ± 0.4 ± 1.1 eV for ψ(2S).

Abstract: First results on polarization measurement are presented. More sophisticated scheme of polarimeter is proposed. It is expected that the accuracy of the measurement of polarization of the circulated electron beam of about 20% will be achieved during 8 minutes of operation of this Moller polarimeter. The work was supported by Russian Foundation for Basic Researches, grants 98-02-17949 and 98-02-17993, INTAS, grant 96-0424 and State Scientific and Technical Programm (Nuclear Physics).

Abstract: Experiments with the MD-1 detector at the VEPP-4 collider in the energy region of Υ mesons were carried out in 1980–1985. Some of the MD-1’s results are still among the most accurate: precise measurement of Υ(1S), Υ(2S) and Υ(3S) meson masses; leptonic widths of Υ(1S) and Υ(2S); R ratio in the energy region s=7.2–10.3 GeV; upper limits on the Υ(1S) decays to pp, K+K−, π+π−; upper limit on the electron width of new resonances in the energy region 7.2–10.3 GeV. New values of Υ(1S), Υ(2S), and Υ(3S) masses corrected to change of the electron mass are given.
