Search

The production of radioactive isotopes by interactions of cosmic-ray particles with sodium iodide (NaI) crystals can produce radioactive backgrounds in detectors used to search for rare events. Through controlled irradiation of NaI crystals with a neutron beam that matches the cosmic-ray neutron spectrum, followed by direct counting and fitting the resulting spectrum across a broad range of energies, we determined the integrated production rate of several long-lived radioisotopes. The measurements were then extrapolated to determine the sea-level cosmogenic neutron activation rate, including the first experimental determination of the tritium production rate: $(80 \pm 21)$ atoms/kg/day. These results will help constrain background estimates and determine the maximum time that NaI-based detectors can remain unshielded above ground before cosmogenic backgrounds impact the sensitivity of next-generation experiments., Comment: 20 pages, 15 figures, 7 tables

Excited-state lifetimes were measured by direct fast-timing methods in three N = 125 isotones — 209Po, 211Rn, and 213Ra — near doubly magic 208Pb. These nuclei have a single neutron hole and successively add pairs of protons relative to 208Pb. The first-excited state to ground-state transition, 5 / 2 1 − → 1 / 2 1 − , has almost identical energy in each isotone and can be associated with the single neutron-hole transition ν f 5 / 2 − 1 → ν p 1 / 2 − 1 . The extent to which the protons act as spectators is assessed based on the measured transition rates, which show a systematic increase along the isotone chain, and by comparisons with large-basis shell-model calculations. The shell model accounts for some of the increased transition strength but consistently underestimates the experimental values. It also fails to explain the near-constant transition energies. These results suggest emerging collectivity beyond the shell-model valence space and show that the near-constant transition energies are not a consequence of a pure neutron-hole transition, but rather the outcome of complex nucleon-nucleon correlations that increase quadrupole collectivity.

Deexcitation $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ rays associated with an isomeric state of $^{186}\mathrm{Ta}$ were investigated. The isomers were produced in multinucleon transfer reactions between a $^{136}\mathrm{Xe}$ beam and a natural W target and were collected and separated by the KEK Isotope Separation System. Two $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ transitions with energies of 161.1(2) and 186.8(1) keV associated with an isomeric decay were observed for the first time. The half-life of the isomeric state of the neutral atom $^{186\mathrm{m}}\mathrm{Ta}$ was deduced as 17(2) s. Based on the comparison with the previous measurements of the isomeric state using the Experimental Storage Ring at GSI Darmstadt and the coupling of angular momenta of individual particle orbitals in odd-odd nuclei, a decay scheme of $^{186\mathrm{m}}\mathrm{Ta}$ was proposed.

The electric monopole (E0) transition strength ρ^{2} for the transition connecting the third 0^{+} level, a "superdeformed" band head, to the "spherical" 0^{+} ground state in doubly magic ^{40}Ca is determined via e^{+}e^{-} pair-conversion spectroscopy. The measured value ρ^{2}(E0;0_{3}^{+}→0_{1}^{+})=2.3(5)×10^{-3} is the smallest ρ^{2}(E0;0^{+}→0^{+}) found in A50 nuclei. In contrast, the E0 transition strength to the ground state observed from the second 0^{+} state, a band head of "normal" deformation, is an order of magnitude larger ρ^{2}(E0;0_{2}^{+}→0_{1}^{+})=25.9(16)×10^{-3}, which shows significant mixing between these two states. Large-scale shell-model (LSSM) calculations are performed to understand the microscopic structure of the excited states and the configuration mixing between them; experimental ρ^{2} values in ^{40}Ca and neighboring isotopes are well reproduced by the LSSM calculations. The unusually small ρ^{2}(E0;0_{3}^{+}→0_{1}^{+}) value is due to destructive interference in the mixing of shape-coexisting structures, which are based on several different multiparticle-multihole excitations. This observation goes beyond the usual treatment of E0 strengths, where two-state shape mixing cannot result in destructive interference.

The level structure of I124 (Z=53, N=71) has been studied via the Sn122(Li7,5n)I124 reaction with a beam energy of 54 MeV. Through in-beam and out-of-beam ?-ray spectroscopy, the sophisticated low-lying levels including isomeric states and numerous collective states have been established for the first time. A positive-parity collective band built on the 10+ state at 1297 keV is interpreted as being associated with the combination of a proton and a neutron in the same intruder h11/2 orbital, namely the ph11/2?h11/2 configuration. This band shows a typical quadrupole vibrational character. In contrast, the negative parity bands based on the pg7/2?h11/2 configuration show a soft triaxial rotation. An isomeric 8- state at 689 keV with a half-life of 14 ns can be explained as a K isomer due to a proton with an ?p=9/2 in the g9/2 orbital coupled to a neutron with an ?n=7/2 in the h11/2 orbital. The excited states based on this pg9/2?h11/2 configuration show a coupled rotational structure. Another coupled rotational band built on the 6+ state at 714 keV is thought to be based on the pg9/2?d3/2 configuration.

The ground-state properties of neutron-rich $^{106}\mathrm{Nb}$ and its $\ensuremath{\beta}$ decay into $^{106}\mathrm{Mo}$ have been studied using the CARIBU radioactive-ion-beam facility at Argonne National Laboratory. Niobium-106 ions were extracted from a $^{252}\mathrm{Cf}$ fission source and mass separated before being delivered as low-energy beams to the Canadian Penning Trap, as well as the X-Array and SATURN $\ensuremath{\beta}$-decay-spectroscopy station. The measured $^{106}\mathrm{Nb}$ ground-state mass excess of $\ensuremath{-}66202.0(13)$ keV is consistent with a recent measurement but has three times better precision; this work also rules out the existence of a second long-lived, $\ensuremath{\beta}$-decaying state in $^{106}\mathrm{Nb}$ above 5 keV in excitation energy. The decay half-life of $^{106}\mathrm{Nb}$ was measured to be 1.097(21) s, which is $8%$ longer than the adopted value. The level scheme of the decay progeny, $^{106}\mathrm{Mo}$, has been expanded up to $\ensuremath{\approx}4\phantom{\rule{4pt}{0ex}}\mathrm{MeV}$. The distribution of decay strength and considerable population of excited states in $^{106}\mathrm{Mo}$ of $J\ensuremath{\ge}3$ emphasizes the need to revise the adopted ${J}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}={1}_{}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ ground-state spin-parity assignment of $^{106}\mathrm{Nb}$; it is more likely to be $J\ensuremath{\ge}3$.

We have performed measurements of sodium nuclear recoils in NaI:Tl crystals, following scattering by neutrons produced in a 7Li(p,n)7Be reaction. Understanding the light output from such recoils, which is reduced relative to electrons of equivalent energy by the quenching factor, is critical to interpret dark matter experiments that search for nuclear scattering interactions. We have developed a spectrum-fitting methodology to extract the quenching factor from our measurements, and report quenching factors for nuclear recoil energies between 36 and 401 keV. Our results agree with other recent quenching factor measurements that use quasi-monoenergetic neutron sources. The new method will be applied in the future to the NaI:Tl crystals used in the SABRE experiment.

6 pags., 4 figs., 2 tabs., The change of the shell structure in atomic nuclei, so-called “nuclear shell evolution”, occurs due to changes of major configurations through particle-hole excitations inside one nucleus, as well as due to variation of the number of constituent protons or neutrons. We have investigated how the shell evolution affects Gamow-Teller (GT) transitions that dominate the β decay in the region below 132Sn using the newly obtained experimental data on a long-lived isomer in 127Ag. The T1/2=67.5(9) ms isomer has been identified with a spin and parity of (27/2+) at an excitation energy of 1942−20+14 keV, and found to decay via an internal transition of an E3 character, which competes with the dominant β-decay branches towards the high-spin states in 127Cd. Mass-separated ${^{187}\mathrm{Ta}}_{114}$ in a high-spin isomeric state has been produced for the first time by multinucleon transfer reactions, employing an argon gas-stopping cell and laser ionization. Internal $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ rays revealed a ${T}_{1/2}=7.3\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.9\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{s}$ isomer at $1778\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{keV}$, which decays through a rotational band with perturbations associated with the approach to a prolate-oblate shape transition. Model calculations show less influence from triaxiality compared to heavier elements in the same mass region. The isomer-decay reduced $E2$ hindrance factor ${f}_{\ensuremath{\nu}}=27\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1$ supports the interpretation that axial symmetry is approximately conserved.

The electron capture process was studied for Xe$^{54+}$ colliding with H$_2$ molecules at the internal gas target of the ESR storage ring at GSI, Darmstadt. Cross section values for electron capture into excited projectile states were deduced from the observed emission cross section of Lyman radiation, being emitted by the hydrogen-like ions subsequent to the capture of a target electron. The ion beam energy range was varied between 5.5 MeV/u and 30.9 MeV/u by applying the deceleration mode of the ESR. Thus, electron capture data was recorded at the intermediate and in particular the low collision energy regime, well below the beam energy necessary to produce bare xenon ions. The obtained data is found to be in reasonable qualitative agreement with theoretical approaches, while a commonly applied empirical formula significantly overestimates the experimental findings.

Excited states in $^{174}\mathrm{Re}$ have been populated in fusion-evaporation reactions at the Australian National University, and $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray spectroscopy has been used to determine the level structure and to deduce the underlying nucleon configurations. The half-life of the bandhead of the ${K}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}={8}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ band has been measured to be 2.7(4) ns. A band built on an isomeric state of spin-parity (${14}^{\ensuremath{-}}$) and a half-life of 53(5) ns has been observed here for the first time, and has been determined to have a four-quasiparticle structure. Contrasting reduced-hindrance values for its decay are discussed in terms of deformation and configuration changes, as indicated by configuration-constrained potential energy surface calculations.

We extend previous measurements of the transfer product yields in the reaction of $$\hbox {E}_{c.m.} = 450\hbox { MeV} ^{~136}\hbox {Xe}$$ with $$^{198}\hbox {Pt}$$ by measurements of the product yields using Gammasphere. By recording events occurring in beam bursts and in between beam bursts, we are able to extend the number of measured product yields from 78 to 171 nuclides. Our new data span a much wider range of Z and A than observed in previous work and when compared to theoretical predictions, these new measurements provide a more stringent and thorough test of models of multi-nucleon transfer (MNT) reactions.

Excited states in $^{58,60,62}$Ni were populated via inelastic proton scattering at the Australian National University as well as via inelastic neutron scattering at the University of Kentucky Accelerator Laboratory. The Super-e electron spectrometer and the CAESAR Compton-suppressed HPGe array were used in complementary experiments to measure conversion coefficients and $\delta(E2/M1)$ mixing ratios, respectively, for a number of $2^+ \rightarrow 2^+$ transitions. The data obtained were combined with lifetimes and branching ratios to determine $E0$, $M1$, and $E2$ transition strengths between $2^+$ states. The $E0$ transition strengths between $0^+$ states were measured using internal conversion electron spectroscopy and compare well to previous results from internal pair formation spectroscopy. The $E0$ transition strengths between the lowest-lying $2^+$ states were found to be consistently large for the isotopes studied.

Using a hybrid Gammasphere array coupled to 25 LaBr3(Ce) detectors, the lifetimes of the first three levels of the yrast band in ¹¹⁴Pd populated via ²⁵²Cf decay, have been measured. The measured lifetimes are τ₂+=103(10)ps, τ₄+=22(13)ps, and τ₆+≤10ps for the 2⁺₁, 4⁺₁, and 6⁺₁ levels, respectively. Palladium-114 was predicted to be the most deformed isotope of its isotopic chain, and spectroscopic studies have suggested it might also be a candidate nucleus for low-spin stable triaxiality. From the lifetimes measured in this work, reduced transition probabilities B(E2;J→J−2) are calculated and compared with interacting boson model, projected shell model, and collective model calculations from the literature. The experimental ratio RB(E₂)=B(E2;4⁺₁→2⁺₁)/B(E2;2⁺₁→0⁺₁)=0.80(42) is measured for the first time in ¹¹⁴Pd and compared with the known values RB(E₂) in the palladium isotopic chain: the systematics suggest that, for N=68, a transition from γ-unstable to a more rigid γ-deformed nuclear shape occurs.

Previously unknown associated gamma-ray decay energies are reported for each nuclide, and through evaluating the intensity of the 2+ → 0+ E2 transition in the even-even palladium daughter nuclei, 120,122,124Pd, from the beta-tagged gamma-ray spectra an upper or lower limit of beta-delayed neutron emission is deduced for each nuclei. The β-delayed γ-ray spectroscopy of neutron-rich 123;125Ag isotopes is investigated at the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory of RIKEN and the long-predicted 1/2¯ β-emitting isomers in 123;125Ag are identified for the first time. With the new experimental results, the systematic trend of energy spacing between the lowest 9/2+ and 1/2¯ levels is extended in Ag isotopes up to N = 78, providing a clear signal for the reduction of the Z = 40 subshell gap in Ag towards N = 82. Shellmodel calculations with the state-of-the-art VMU plus M3Y spin-orbit interaction give a satisfactory description of the low-lying states in 123;125Ag. The tensor force is found to play a crucial role in the evolution of the size of the Z = 40 subshell gap. The observed inversion of the single particle levels around 123Ag can be well interpreted in terms of the monopole shift of the π1g9/2 orbitals mainly caused by the increasing occupation of ʋ1h11/2 orbitals.

The neutron-rich isotopes of palladium have attracted considerable interest in terms of the evolution of the N=82 neutron shell closure and its influence on the r-process nucleosynthesis. In this Letter, we present the first spectroscopic information on the excited states in Pd and Pd studied using the EURICA γ-ray spectrometer, following production via in-flight fission of a high-intensity U beam at the RIBF facility. New isomeric states with half-lives of 144(4) ns and 39(6) μs have been assigned spins and parities of (23/2 ) and (19/2 ) in Pd and Pd, respectively. The observed level properties are compared to a shell-model calculation, suggesting the competition between proton excitations and neutron excitations in the proton-hole and neutron-hole systems in the vicinity of the doubly magic nucleus Sn.

SABRE is a dark matter direct detection experiment aiming to measure the annual modulation of the dark matter interaction rate in NaI(Tl) crystals. SABRE focuses on the achievement of an ultra-low background rate operating high-purity NaI(Tl) crystals in a liquid scintillator veto for active background rejection. Moreover, twin experiments will be located in both Northern and Southern hemispheres (Italy and Australia) to disentangle any possible contribution from seasonal or site-related effects. In this article the results of the first measurements with a NaI(Tl) crystal for the SABRE experiment performed at LNGS are presented.

Yrast and near-yrast levels up to an I=17ℏ spin value and a 6-MeV excitation energy have been delineated in the “two-neutron” 210Pb nucleus following deep-inelastic reactions involving 208Pb targets and a number of heavy-ion beams at energies ∼25% above the Coulomb barrier. The level scheme was established on the basis of multifold prompt and delayed coincidence relationships measured with the Gammasphere array. In addition to the previously known states, many new levels were identified. For most of the strongly populated states, spin-parity assignments are proposed on the basis of angular distributions. The reinvestigation of the ν(g9/2)2, 8+ isomeric decay results in the firm identification of the low-energy E2 transitions involved in the 8+→6+→4+ cascade, and in a revised 6+ level half-life of 92(10) ns, nearly a factor of 2 longer than previously measured. Among the newly identified states figure spin I=4–10ℏ levels associated with the νg9/2i11/2 multiplet, as well as yrast states involving νg9/2j15/2, νi11/2j15/2, and ν(j15/2)2 neutron couplings. The highest-spin excitations are understood as 1p−1h core excitations and the yrast population is found to be fragmented to the extent that levels of spin higher than I=17ℏ could not be reached. Four E3 transitions are present in the 210Pb yrast decay; three of these involve the g9/2→j15/2 octupole component, as reflected in the 21(2) and >10 Weisskopf unit enhancements of the B(E3) rates of the first two. The fourth, 16+→13−E3 transition corresponds to the 3− core octupole excitation built on the νi11/2j15/2 state, in analogy to a similar E3 coupling to the νj15/2 level in 209Pb. Shell-model calculations performed for two-neutron states and 1p−1h 208Pb core excitations are in good agreement with the data. Evidence was found for the existence of a hitherto unknown high-spin β-decaying isomer in 210Tl. Shell-model calculations of the 210Tl levels suggest the possibility of a 11+ long-lived, β-decaying state, and the delayed yields observed in various reactions fit rather well with a 210Tl assignment.

This contribution will report on the experimental work on the level structure of 168Dy. The experimental data have been taken as part of the EURICA decay spectroscopy campaign at RIBF, RIKEN in November 2014. In the experiment, a 238U primary beam is accelerated up to 345 MeV/u with an average intensity of 12 pnA. The nuclei of interest are produced by in-flight fission of 238U impinging on Be target with a thickness of 5 mm. The excited states of 168Dy have been populated through the decay from a newly identified isomeric state and via the β decay from 168Tb. In this contribution, scientific motivations, experimental procedure and some preliminary results for this study are presented.

Excited states in Re186 with spins up to J=12 were investigated in two separate experiments using W186(d,2n) reactions at beam energies of 12.5 and 14.5 MeV. Two- and threefold γ-ray coincidence data were collected using the CAESAR and CAGRA spectrometers, respectively, each composed of Compton-suppressed high-purity germanium detectors. Analysis of the data revealed rotational bands built on several two-quasiparticle intrinsic states, including a long-lived Kπ=(8+) isomer. Configuration assignments were supported by an analysis of in-band properties, such as gK-gR values. The excitation energies of the observed intrinsic states were compared with results from multi-quasiparticle blocking calculations, based on the Lipkin-Nogami pairing approach, that included contributions from the residual proton-neutron interactions.

Electric monopole (E0) transitions are a highly sensitive probe of the charge distribution of an atomic nucleus. A large E0 transition strength (ρ2(E0)) is a clear indicator of nuclear shape coexistence. In the region between doubly magic 40Ca and 56Ni, E0 transitions have never been observed in the Ti or Cr isotopes, nor in the heavier iron isotopes (56,58Fe). We have performed the first measurements of the E0 transitions in 52Cr via conversion-electron and pair-conversion spectroscopy using the Super-e spectrometer at the Australian National University Heavy Ion Accelerator Facility. We present the first spectra obtained for 52Cr, including the first observation of the E0 transition from the first-excited 0+ state in 52Cr, in both electron-positron pairs and conversion-electron spectroscopy. The preliminary values for the E0 strength in the 1531keV 2+ → 2+ transition in 52Cr is ρ2(E0) × 103 = 470(190), and for the 1728-keV 23+ → 21+ transition, it is ρ2(E0) 103 = 1800(1200). The large E0 strengths observed are consistent with shape coexistence in this region. However, despite the relatively precise observation of the conversion-electron and electron-positron pair intensities, the E0 strengths have large uncertainties. More precise determinations of relevant spectroscopic quantities, such as the state lifetimes and transition mixing ratios for mixed M1 + E2 transitions, are needed to determine the E0 strength more precisely.

The decay of an isomeric state in the neutron-rich nucleus 129 Cd has been observed via the detection of internal conversion and Compton electrons providing first experimental information on excited states in this nucleus. The isomer was populated in the projectile fission of a 238 U beam at the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory at RIKEN. From the measured yields of γ -rays and internal conversion electrons, a multipolarity of E 3 was tentatively assigned to the isomeric transition. A half-life of T 1 / 2 = 3.6 ( 2 ) ms was determined for the new state which was assigned a spin of ( 21 / 2 + ) , based on a comparison to shell model calculations performed using state-of-the-art realistic effective interactions.

The neutron-rich dysprosium isotopes ¹⁶⁸Dy₁₀₂ and ¹⁶⁹Dy₁₀₃ have been investigated using the EURICA γ-ray spectrometer, following production via in-flight fission of a high-intensity uranium beam in conjunction with isotope separation through the BigRIPS separator at RIBF in RIKEN Nishina Center. For ¹⁶⁸Dy, a previously unreported isomer with a half-life of 0.57(7) μs has been identified at an excitation energy of 1378 keV, and its presence affirmed independently using γ-γ-γ coincidence data taken with Gammasphere via two-proton transfer from an enriched ¹⁷⁰Er target performed at Argonne National Laboratory. This isomer is assigned Jπ = Kπ = (4⁻) based on the measured transition strengths, decay patterns, and the energy systematics for two-quasiparticle states in N = 102 isotones. The underlying mechanism of two-quasiparticle excitations in the doubly midshell region is discussed in comparison with the deformed QRPA and multi-quasiparticle calculations. In ¹⁶⁹Dy, the B(E2) value for the transition de-exciting the previously unreported Kπ = (1/2⁻) isomeric state at 166 keV to the Kπ = (5/2⁻) ground state is approximately two orders of magnitude larger than the E2 strength for the corresponding isomeric-decay transition in the N = 103 isotone ¹⁷³Yb, suggesting the presence of a significant γ-vibrational admixture with a dominant neutron one-quasiparticle component in the isomeric state.

A half-life of T=6.3(8) ms was measured for the new state which was tentatively assigned a spin/parity of (15). The experimental results are compared to shell model calculations performed using state-of-the-art realistic effective interactions and to the neighbouring nucleus Cd. In the present experiment no evidence was found for the decay of a 18 E6 spin-trap isomer, based on the complete alignment of the two-neutron and two-proton holes in the 0h and the 0g orbit, respectively, which is predicted to exist by the shell model., We thank the staff of the RIKEN Nishina Center accelerator complex for providing stable beams with high intensities to the experiment. The β-decay half-lives of 94 neutron-rich nuclei ^{144-151}Cs, ^{146-154}Ba, ^{148-156}La, ^{150-158}Ce, ^{153-160}Pr, ^{156-162}Nd, ^{159-163}Pm, ^{160-166}Sm, ^{161-168}Eu, ^{165-170}Gd, ^{166-172}Tb, ^{169-173}Dy, ^{172-175}Ho, and two isomeric states ^{174m}Er, ^{172m}Dy were measured at the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory, providing a new experimental basis to test theoretical models. Strikingly large drops of β-decay half-lives are observed at neutron-number N=97 for _{58}Ce, _{59}Pr, _{60}Nd, and _{62}Sm, and N=105 for _{63}Eu, _{64}Gd, _{65}Tb, and _{66}Dy. Features in the data mirror the interplay between pairing effects and microscopic structure. r-process network calculations performed for a range of mass models and astrophysical conditions show that the 57 half-lives measured for the first time play an important role in shaping the abundance pattern of rare-earth elements in the solar system.

The lifetimes of states with spins 26h greater than or equal to I greater than or equal to 18h in the yrast superdeformed band of Pb-192 have been measured using the Doppler shift attenuation method. The results are consistent with a constant quadrupole moment (Q(0)) = 19.6(-0.4)(+0.5)(stat) +/- 2.0(sys) eb. This result is comparable with the values obtained for SD bands in Pb isotopes with N greater than or equal to 112, but could also be onsistent with the smaller quadrupole moment measured in Pb-193. Reasons for the apparently lower deformation of SD Pb-193 (compared to its heavier neighbours) are considered in the light of total Routhian surface calculations, and the question of whether a similarly reduced deformation should be expected in Pb-192 is addressed. The He-8 + Pb-208 reaction was studied in the first experiment with the EXOGAM germanium detector array using beam delivered by the SPIRAL facility. gamma-rays from direct and fusion-evaporation reactions were observed with high resolution. gamma-gamma coincidence data were obtained at a beam intensity level of 105 8He particles per second. Specially designed absorbers and beam detectors could further reduce the background radiation by orders of magnitude.

The 124Xe(p,γ) reaction has been measured for the first time at energies around the Gamow window by using stored ions at the ESR facility. The desired beam energies below 10 MeV/u introduce new experimental challenges like windowless ions detection under UHV conditions, extremely short beam lifetimes and efficient beam deceleration and cooling, all of which have been successfully met.

The β-decay half-lives of 110 neutron-rich isotopes of the elements from _{37}Rb to _{50}Sn were measured at the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory. The 40 new half-lives follow robust systematics and highlight the persistence of shell effects. The new data have direct implications for r-process calculations and reinforce the notion that the second (A≈130) and the rare-earth-element (A≈160) abundance peaks may result from the freeze-out of an (n,γ)⇄(γ,n) equilibrium. In such an equilibrium, the new half-lives are important factors determining the abundance of rare-earth elements, and allow for a more reliable discussion of the r process universality. It is anticipated that universality may not extend to the elements Sn, Sb, I, and Cs, making the detection of these elements in metal-poor stars of the utmost importance to determine the exact conditions of individual r-process events.
