The reduction in mineral fertilizer usage is crucial to the production of medicinal and aromatic products for safety and health purposes. Presently, nanotechnology and the utilization of natural extracts have been extensively studied due to their significant contribution. Ocimum basilicum is commonly employed for various medicinal and aromatic applications. Therefore, randomized complete block design field experiments containing 10 treatments were conducted during the 2021 and 2022 seasons to investigate the effect of nanoparticles (NPs) of ZnO (1.5 and 2.0 g/L) and SiO2 (100 and 150 mg/L) and date palm pollen extract (DPPE) at 10 and 20 g/L either alone or in combination with the ¾ or ½ NPK recommended dose (RD). The NPK RD was served as a control treatment on basil plant production in each season. The effectiveness of ZnO NPs, SiO2 NPs, and DPPE for the decrease in NPK utilization was evaluated. Meanwhile, the most effective treatment for vegetative traits (except for plant height), essential oil %, and yield was ½ NPK RD + 20 g/L DPPE + 2.0 g/L ZnO NPs. Such a treatment increased the branch number/plant, main stem diameter, relevant chlorophyll content, fresh weight/plant, dry weight/plant, essential oil %, and essential oil yield/plant by 21.00 and 9.94%, 58.70 and 40.00%, 20.69 and 15.83%, 68.83 and 58.28%, 48.70 and 56.16%, 45.71 and 35.53%, and 113.22 and 110.32% over the control in the two seasons, respectively. For total phenol and antioxidant activity, the most effective treatments were the ¾ NPK +1.5 g/L ZnO NPs and ½ NPK +2.0 g/L ZnO NPs, respectively. Simultaneously, essential oil composition (with their compound numbers identified (11–29 for control and ¾ NPK RD + 1.5 g/L ZnO NPs)) and the percentage of total compounds, monoterpene hydrocarbons, sesquiterpene hydrocarbons, and oxygenated hydrocarbons were varied among the used applications. The major observed compounds (>8%) estragole, methyl eugenol, linalool, cineole, and caryophyllene were found in different treatments. Thus, the findings of this study indicate the favorable utilization of ZnO NPs, SiO2 NPs, and DPPE in reducing the application of NPK, which may present a novel strategy and beneficial approach. Purpose: This article analyzes clinical trials that provide evidence for the positive effects of using samidorphan to mitigate undesirable weight gain in patients diagnosed with schizophrenia who are undergoing treatment with olanzapine. Views: Weight gain is a prevalent and problematic side effect of antipsychotic drug therapy, particularly in patients with schizophrenia. To address this issue, extensive research is being conducted to explore new drug therapies that can effectively counteract psychotic symptoms while minimizing the occurrence of unwanted side effects. One promising approach involves the addition of weight-loss substances to existing medications. Studies have indicated that opioid receptor antagonists, such as samidorphan, have the potential to facilitate weight loss. Consequently, a novel therapy combining samidorphan and olanzapine has been developed and is discussed in detail in this article. Conclusions: The combination of samidorphan and olanzapine has demonstrated its ability to effectively reduce weight gain in patients with schizophrenia, without compromising the drug's primary function of alleviating psychotic symptoms. Moreover, the inclusion of samidorphan in the treatment regimen may contribute to a lower risk of cardiovascular events, though it is worth noting that it could also lead to an increase in digestive side effects. Despite this potential drawback, the introduction of this innovative therapy represents a significant advancement in the management of obesity among individuals with schizophrenia. The paper presents an approach to natural plant stems numerical modelling in a three-point bending test. Introduced subject was connected with elaborating more efficient systems for harvesting energetic plants. There were modelled, and laboratory tested two types of stems – sida hermaphrodita and miscanthus giganteus. Course of proceedings for obtaining natural cross-sectional dimensions with graphical data processing was described in detail. Basing on dozens of stems slices from random parts of plants, three different cross-section approximations were proposed and computationally implemented – a circular pipe, an elliptical pipe (symmetrical cross-section) and a sine-cosine series pipe (asymmetrical cross-section). Analytical formulas for calculating a cross-sectional area and moments of inertia for each approximation were given. Basic material parameters as an elastic modulus and yielding stress was obtained from simply supported beam theory and laboratory force – the deflexion relation. FEM models were created in Simulia Abaqus software using C3D20R elements. Preliminary approach to modelling damage with perfect plasticity was done basing on several samples bended to failure in laboratory tests. Conclusions for future work with numerical modelling natural plant stems were drawn.

One of the greatest challenges of the 21st century is to obtain an ecological source of transport fuels. The production of biofuels based on feedstock obtained through the exploitation of arable land translates into an increase in food prices and progressive degradation of the environment. Unlike traditional agricultural raw materials, algae are a neutral alternative in many respects. They can even be obtained as waste from polluted water reservoirs. One of the manifestations of the deterioration of surface waters is the eutrophication of water reservoirs, which leads to an increase in the number of algae. Algae reaching the shores of water reservoirs can be used as a raw material for the production of biofuels, including biogas, bioethanol and biodiesel. However, it should be remembered that water blooms are a periodic phenomenon, appearing in the summer months. Therefore, in order to ensure the continuity of obtaining energy from biomass, it is necessary to conduct algae cultivation in artificial open tanks or photobioreactors. Accordingly, this review first briefly discusses the properties and possible applications of different species of algae in various industrial areas, and then describes the process of eutrophication and the presence of algae in eutrophicated reservoirs. Technologies of algal cultivation in various systems and technologies of algal biomass pretreatment were critically discussed. Various methods of obtaining biomass from algae were also reviewed, and the process conditions were summarized. Biofuels of various generations and raw materials from which they are obtained are presented in order to determine the possible future directions of development in this field. Parameters affecting the selection of algae species for the production of biofuels were also examined and presented. Overall, algal biofuels still face many challenges in replacing traditional fossil fuels. Future work should focus on maximizing the yield and quality of algae-derived biofuels while increasing their economic viability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A key role in the development of smart Internet of Things (IoT) solutions is played by wireless communication technologies, especially LPWAN (Low-Power Wide-Area Network), which are becoming increasingly popular due to their advantages: long range, low power consumption and the ability to connect multiple edge devices. However, in addition to the advantages of communication and low power consumption, the security of transmitted data is also important. End devices very often have a small amount of memory, which makes it impossible to implement advanced cryptographic algorithms on them. The article analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of solutions based on LPWAN communication and reviews platforms for IoT device communication in the LoRaWAN (LoRa Wide Area Network) standard in terms of configuration complexity. It describes how to configure an experimental LPWAN system being built at the Department of Computer Science and Telecommunications at Poznan University of Technology for research related to smart buildings. Ficus genus is typically tropical plants and is among the earliest fruit trees cultivated by humans. Ficus carica L. is the common fig, Ficus benjamina L. is the weeping fig, and Ficus pumila L. is the creeping fig. These species are commonly used in traditional medicine for a wide range of diseases and contain rich secondary metabolites that have shown diverse applications. This comprehensive review describes for Ficus genus the phytochemical compounds, traditional uses and contemporary pharmacological activities such as antioxidant, cytotoxic, antimicrobial, anti‐inflammatory, antidiabetic, antiulcer, and anticonvulsant. An extended survey of the current literature (Science Direct, Scopus, PubMed) has been carried out as part of the current work. The trends in the phytochemistry, pharmacological mechanisms and activities of Ficus genus are overviewed in this manuscript: antimicrobial, antidiabetic, anti‐inflammatory and analgesic activity, antiseizure and anti‐Parkinson's diseases, cytotoxic and antioxidant. Health‐promoting effects, recent human clinical studies, safety and adverse effects of Ficus plants also are covered. The medical potential and long‐term pharmacotherapeutic use of the genus Ficus along with no serious reported adverse events, suggests that it can be considered as being safe. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A field experiment was carried out in 2015-2016 on a private farm in the District of Zamość, Poland. The experimental field was located on soil with the textural composition of clayey silt, having slightly acid reaction, moderate organic matter content (19.4 g kg-1) and moderate content of available phosphorus, potassium and magnesium. The following factors were analysed: I) soybean cultivar: Amandine and Merlin; II) nitrogen fertilisation (kg ha-1): 1) N - 0; 2) N - 30 before sowing; 3) N - 30 at BBCH 73-75; 4) N - 60 (30 before sowing and 30 at BBCH 73-75). The aim of the study was to determine the influence of a cultivar and the level of nitrogen application on the content of basic nutrients in soybeans, and the yield of seeds, proteins and fat per ha of the crop. The research indicates that the soybean varieties Amandine and Merlin grown in the conditions of south-eastern Poland not only produce soybeans with high nutritional value, but also ensure high yields of seeds, protein and fat per ha. The Amandine soybeans had a significantly higher content of crude ash, crude protein and crude fibre than the Merlin cultivar. The highest level of crude protein was noted in the soybeans fertilised with nitrogen at a dose of 30 kg ha-1 at BBCH stage 73-75. This level of nitrogen application also resulted in the highest content of crude fat in the soybeans. The crude fat content was 202.3 g kg-1 in the Amandine soybeans and 217.2 g kg-1 in the seeds of the Merlin cultivar. The smallest proportion of monounsaturated fatty acid and the highest proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acid were noted in the seeds of the Amandine cultivar.
