The purpose of this study was to use the in vitro gas production (IVGP) method to assess the relative feeding value, feed quality, and anti-methanogenic capabilities of tree leaves added to Italian ryegrass forage at various proportions. With the addition of 2% and 4% willow leaf (Salix alba), 2% and 4% vine leaf (Vitis vinifera), 2% and 4% plane leaf (Platanus orientalis), and a control group devoid of these supplements, a total of 21 forage samples were created. The data were subjected to analysis of variance after nutritional composition, energy content, feeding value, and feed quality were determined using the in vitro gas generation method. The effect of the addition of tree leaves to forage on crude ash, IVGP, methane, metabolizable energy, net energy lactation, organic matter digestion, true digestible dry matter, partitioning factor, microbial protein, microbial protein synthesising efficiency, degree of true digestion, NDF digestion, total digestible nutrients, and relative feed quality was substantial. With the addition of 2% willow leaves, the digestibility, metabolic energy, net energy lactation value, organic matter digestion, microbial protein value, and relative feed quality all improved. The findings showed that tree leaves can be utilized as an alternate feed source for ruminants. Tannin content should be taken into account when preparing rations utilizing tannin-containing tree leaves. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, Italian ryegrass ensiled in laboratory silos was examined in vitro to evaluate the nutrient composition of silage and rumen parameters. In this study, four experimental treatments were included, which included a control group (Italian ryegrass silage), the control group supplemented with 4.5% molasses, the control group supplemented with 4.5% locust bean fracture (Ceratonia siliqua), and the control group supplemented with 4.5% locust pods (Gleditsia triacanthos). A kitchen-type vacuum machine was used to vacuum the silage samples and store them at 25 °C for 60 days. The use of experimental additives had substantial effects on the nutrient value. The results demonstrated that the molasses-added group had a higher Fleig score while the locust pod-added group showed the lowest pH. The locust pod-added group had higher gas and methane production. The molasses-added group had a higher dry matter digestibility (DMD), relative feeding value (RFV), relative feed quality (RFQ), and total digestible nutrient content (TDN). As a result, the experimental additives were more effective than the control groups. Based on their potential to increase rumen fermentation, these additives are recommended. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This research was carried out to determine the effects of different additions (urea and molasses) used with Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum L.) silage on fermentation, in vitro gas production, microbiological properties, in vitro digestibility parameters, and relative fodder quality (RFQ) in silages made under laboratory conditions. The Italian grass (Lolium multiflorum L.) used in the study was chopped to an approximate size of 2-3.0 cm. Amounts of 0, 2, and 4% molasses and 0, 0.5, and 1% urea were added to the fresh material as a percentage of dry matter. Because of the urea, crude protein (CP) of Italian ryegrass silage increased, but the content of neutral detergent fibre (NDF), acid detergent fibre (ADF), and acid detergent lignin (ADL) decreased. While the addition of urea decreased the acetic acid and butyric acid concentrations of the silage, it increased the pH, lactic acid, and ammonia (NH3) content. Molasses addition increased in vitro gas production and organic matter digestibility (OMD); urea increased metabolic energy (ME) and the net energy lactation (NEL) values of silages. Urea and molasses both increased in vitro digestibility parameters, microbial protein production and synthesis, and relative fodder quality of the silage. As a result of the research, it was determined that urea and molasses could be used at contents of 1.5% and 4%, respectively, in Italian ryegrass silage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main aim of this research is to investigate effects of different soil tillage applications on soil physicalproperties related to soil aeration and water conductivity in soils having heavy soil texture usinggeostatistical method. Experiment was conducted on 11 m x 50 m sized plots located in Black SeaAgricultural Research Institute-Samsun between 2011 and 2012 years. It was found significant asstatistically effects of all soil tillage applications on total porosity, micropore, bulk density and organicmatter content for first year. It was showed that total porosity and micropore content of soils increased with applications of soil tillage whereas, bulk density and organic matter content decreased with thesame applications. As for in second years, it was found statistically significant only for micro andmacropore contents of soils under these applications. On the other hand, effects on micropore contentof soils were showed inversely by taking into consideration of time. Variability of soil tillage effects forsecond years on it were explained with increasing amount of precipitation in 2012. It was determinedthat soils have not suitable macrospores for plant growth and for drainage under soil tillage applicationsin for both years. In addition, it was found the similarity between Duncan multiple comparison resultsand Kriging maps. Therefore, geostatistic methods can be used successfully for mapping of variations ofsoil properties depending at some soil management applications, Bu çalışmada, ağır killi tekstüre sahip bir toprakta farklı toprak işleme uygulamalarının topraklarınhavalanma ve su iletimi ile ilişkili fiziksel toprak özellikleri üzerine etkilerinin jeoistatistiksel yöntemlearaştırılması amaçlanmıştır.

In this study carried out on the development of arteriovenous anastomoses (AVAs) in Rattus norvegicus species, the fetus was followed up 10 days after post coitum (pc). The sections obtained from the fetuses of 10-20-day rats were subjected to the usual processes for examination under the light microscope. Various staining processes were applied on the preparations and the simple and glomus types of AVAs determined in the mesenchyme of fetuses observed to birth every day. The regions with AVAs were then photographed by photomicroscopy and evaluated. From the 10-day embryo to birth, an increase in the smooth muscles in the wall structure of simple anastomoses was observed. It was however very difficult to follow up this increase in glomus anastomoses because the wall structure is more complicated. Their morphology was examined and compared with that in literature.

- Abstract
Introduction: Electronic cigarettes, or e-cigarettes, are rapidly gaining popularity throughout the globe as safer alternatives to traditional cigarette smoking. There are significant public health concerns due to the uncertainty of long-term health consequences. This study aims to examine the experiences, attitudes and social dynamics of e-cigarette users to provide guidance for public health policies and interventions., Methods: In this qualitative descriptive study, semi-structured interviews were conducted. Fifteen e-cigarette users were recruited using a snowball sampling strategy, where initial participants referred other suitable users. All participants had at least 6 months of regular e-cigarette use. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews with open-ended questions. The interviews were transcribed verbatim and reviewed by the researchers. This review identified four main themes and eight sub-themes., Results: The four main themes identified as a result of the analysis are as follows: (1) initiation and usage experiences; (2) perceptions of health effects; (3) social and environmental factors and (4) addiction and future plans. Participants primarily began using e-cigarettes out of curiosity, due to the appealing fragrance and the belief that they were less harmful than traditional cigarettes. Usage patterns varied among participants, with some reporting minimal cravings in the early morning hours. Opinions on the long-term health effects of e-cigarettes were diverse, with many participants acknowledging uncertainty. Peers and family members perceived e-cigarettes as more socially acceptable than traditional smoking, resulting in fewer negative reactions. Finally, participants' levels of addiction and intentions to quit varied, with some expressing a desire to reduce or cease usage due to health concerns., Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that the adoption of e-cigarettes is influenced by a confluence of factors, including curiosity, the perception of reduced damage in comparison to conventional cigarettes and social acceptance. Notwithstanding these claimed advantages, users have a diverse array of beliefs and understandings concerning the enduring health consequences of e-cigarettes. The presence of varying levels of addiction and the corresponding aspirations to cease the behaviour highlight the necessity for focused public health interventions., Patient or Public Contribution: E-cigarette users were actively involved in this study, providing essential insights and feedback throughout. Their first-hand experiences shaped the interview guide and contributed to the identification of key themes. Participants also reviewed and confirmed the accuracy of the interview transcripts, ensuring the reliability of the data., (© 2024 The Author(s). Background: The intersection of artificial intelligence and medical image analysis has ushered in a new era of innovation and changed the landscape of brain tumor detection and diagnosis. Correct detection and classification of brain tumors based on medical images is crucial for early diagnosis and effective treatment. Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models are widely used for disease detection. However, they are sometimes unable to sufficiently recognize the complex features of medical images., Methods: This paper proposes a fused Deep Learning (DL) model that combines Graph Neural Networks (GNN), which recognize relational dependencies of image regions, and CNN, which captures spatial features, is proposed to improve brain tumor detection. By integrating these two architectures, our model achieves a more comprehensive representation of brain tumor images and improves classification performance. The proposed model is evaluated on a public dataset of 10847 MRI images. The results show that the proposed model outperforms the existing pre-trained models and traditional CNN architectures., Results: The fused DL model achieves 93.68% accuracy in brain tumor classification. The results indicate that the proposed model outperforms the existing pre-trained models and traditional CNN architectures., Conclusion: The numerical results suggest that the model should be further investigated for potential use in clinical trials to improve clinical decision-making., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest The authors declare that they have no known competing financial interests or personal relationships that could have appeared to influence the work reported in this paper., (Copyright © 2024 Elsevier Ltd. - Abstract
Objective: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is associated with adverse perioperative events in patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery. In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between systolic pulmonary artery pressure (sPAP), evaluated by transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) before surgery, and perioperative mortality and morbidity in patients who underwent non-cardiac surgery in our center., Methods: Of the 3425 retrospectively screened patients who underwent non-cardiac surgery, 3049 patients whose estimated sPAP values were previously determined by TTE were included in the study. Patients were classified into 3 groups according to their estimated sPAP levels. sPAP <35 mmHg formed group 1, 35-39 mmHg group 2, and ≥ 40 mmHg group 3. All demographic and perioperative data obtained from the database of our institute were compared in three groups., Results: Of the 3049 patients enrolled in the study, 2406 (78.9%) were in group 1, 259 (8.5%) in group 2, and 384 (12.6%) in group 3. Thirty-day all-cause mortality was observed in 82 (2.7%) patients, cardiac mortality occurred in 9 patients (0.3%). In the group with sPAP ≥40 mmHg, cardiac mortality was 0.5% and all-cause mortality was 7.3%. Thirty-day all-cause mortality, acute pulmonary edema, and acute renal failure were significantly higher in group 3 than in the other groups. Cardiac mortality did not differ significantly between the groups. Age, sPAP value, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease history were revealed as independent predictors of all-cause mortality in multivariate logistic regression analysis., Conclusion: In conclusion, increased sPAP is associated with adverse postoperative outcomes. The evaluation of sPAP with TTE before non-cardiac surgery in patients whose clinical features and examination findings suggest PH may contribute to preoperative risk assessment.

- Abstract
Magnetite is an important mineral with many interesting applications related to its magnetic, electrical, and thermal properties. Typically studied by electronic structure calculations, these methods are unable to capture the complex ion dynamics at relevant temperatures, time, and length scales. We present a hybrid Monte Carlo/molecular dynamics (MC/MD) method based on iron oxidation-state swapping for accurate atomistic modeling of bulk magnetite, magnetite surfaces, and nanoparticles that captures the complex ionic dynamics. By comparing the oxidation-state patterns with those obtained from density functional theory, we confirmed the accuracy of our approach. Lattice distortions leading to the stabilization of excess charges and a critical surface thickness at which the oxidation states transition from ordered to disordered were observed. This simple yet efficient approach paves the way for elucidating aspects of oxidation-state ordering of inverse spinel structures in general and battery materials in particular.

- Abstract
Introduction: Fingolimod is the first oral immunomodulatory treatment used as secondary care therapy in the treatment of multiple sclerosis for the last 10 years. The objective of our study is to reveal the experiences of the first generic fingolimod active ingredient treatment in different centers across Turkey., Method: The first generic fingolimod efficacy and safety data of patients followed-up in 29 different clinical multiple sclerosis units in Turkey were analyzed retrospectively. Data regarding efficacy and safety of the patients were transferred to the data system both before the treatment and on the 6th, 12
th and 24th month following the treatment. The data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS 20.00. P value of <0.05 was considered to be statistically significant., Results: A total of 508 multiple sclerosis patients, 331 of whom were women, were included in the study. Upon comparing the Expanded Disability Status values before and after the treatment, a significant decrease was observed, especially at month 6 and thereafter. Since bradycardia occurred in 11 of the patients (2.3%), the first dose had to be longer than 6 hours. During the observation of the first dose, no issues that could prevent the use of the drug occured. Side effects were seen in 49 (10.3%) patients during the course of fingolimod treatment. Respectively, the most frequent side effects were bradycardia, hypotension, headache, dizziness and tachycardia., Conclusion: The observed results regarding efficacy and safety were similar to clinical trial data in the literature and real life data in terms of the first equivalent with fingolimod active ingredient., Competing Interests: Conflict of Interest: The authors declared that there is no conflict of interest., (Copyright: © 2023 Turkish Neuropsychiatric Society.)- Published

- Abstract
The World Health Organization (WHO) declared a pandemic in response to the coronavirus COVID-19 in 2020, which resulted in numerous deaths worldwide. Although the disease appears to have lost its impact, millions of people have been affected by this virus, and new infections still occur. Identifying COVID-19 requires a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction test (RT-PCR) or analysis of medical data. Due to the high cost and time required to scan and analyze medical data, researchers are focusing on using automated computer-aided methods. This review examines the applications of deep learning (DL) and machine learning (ML) in detecting COVID-19 using medical data such as CT scans, X-rays, cough sounds, MRIs, ultrasound, and clinical markers. First, the data preprocessing, the features used, and the current COVID-19 detection methods are divided into two subsections, and the studies are discussed. Second, the reported publicly available datasets, their characteristics, and the potential comparison materials mentioned in the literature are presented. Third, a comprehensive comparison is made by contrasting the similar and different aspects of the studies. Finally, the results, gaps, and limitations are summarized to stimulate the improvement of COVID-19 detection methods, and the study concludes by listing some future research directions for COVID-19 classification., Competing Interests: Conflict of interestThe authors have no conflicts of interest to declare that are relevant to the content of this article., (© The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2023. - Abstract
COVID-19 is a virus that causes upper respiratory tract and lung infections. The number of cases and deaths increased daily during the pandemic. Once it is vital to diagnose such a disease in a timely manner, the researchers have focused on computer-aided diagnosis systems. Chest X-rays have helped monitor various lung diseases consisting COVID-19. In this study, we proposed a deep transfer learning approach with novel fine-tuning mechanisms to classify COVID-19 from chest X-ray images. We presented one classical and two new fine-tuning mechanisms to increase the model's performance. Two publicly available databases were combined and used for the study, which included 3616 COVID-19 and 1576 normal (healthy) and 4265 pneumonia X-ray images. The models achieved average accuracy rates of 95.62%, 96.10%, and 97.61%, respectively, for 3-class cases with fivefold cross-validation. Numerical results show that the third model reduced 81.92% of the total fine-tuning operations and achieved better results. The proposed approach is quite efficient compared with other state-of-the-art methods of detecting COVID-19., Competing Interests: Conflict of interestAll of the authors declare that they have no conflict of interest., (© The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2023, Springer Nature or its licensor (e.g. a society or other partner) holds exclusive rights to this article under a publishing agreement with the author(s) or other rightsholder(s); author self-archiving of the accepted manuscript version of this article is solely governed by the terms of such publishing agreement and applicable law.)

- Abstract
Objective: Pulmonary complications are common in patients with liver cirrhosis. Devolopment of pulmonary hypertension (PH) is associated with a poor prognosis in these patients. Pulmonary arterial stiffness (PAS) is considered an early sign of pulmonary vascular remodeling. The aim of this study is to investigate PAS and compare it with right ventricular (RV) functions in patients with cirrhosis who are scheduled for liver transplantation., Methods: The study included 52 cirrhosis patients (mean age 51.01 ± 12.18 years, male gender 76.9%) who were prepared for liver transplantation and 59 age and sex matched (mean age 51.28 ± 13.63 years, male gender 62.7%) healthy individuals. Patients with left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) less than 55%, ischemic heart disease, more than mild valvular heart disease, chronic pulmonary disease, congenital heart disease, rheumatic disease, moderate to high echocardiographic PH probability, rhythm or conduction disorders on electrocardiography were excluded from the study. In addition to conventional echocardiographic parameters, PAS value, pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) and RV ejection efficiency was calculated by the related formulas with transthoracic echocardiography (TTE)., Results: Demographic characteristics and cardiovascular risk factors of the groups were similar. PAS, PVR, and sPAP values were found to be significantly higher in the patient group (20.52 ± 6.52 and 13.73 ± 2.05; 1.43 ± 0.15 and 1.27 ± 0.14; 27.69 ± 3.91 and 23.37 ± 3.81 p < 0.001, respectively). RV FAC and RV Ee were significantly lower and RV MPI was significantly higher in the patient group (45.31 ± 3.85 and 49.66 ± 3.62, p < 0.001; 1.69 ± 0.35 and 1.85 ± 0.23, p = 0.005; 0.39 ± 0.07 and 0.33 ± 0.09, p = 0.001, respectively). PAS was significantly correlated with RV FAC and MPI (r = -0.423, p < 0.001; r = 0.301, p = 0.001, respectively)., Conclusions: Increased PAS in cirrhosis patients may be associated with early pulmonary vascular involvement. Evaluation of RV functions is important to determine the prognosis in these patients. FAC, MPI, and RV Ee measurements instead of TAPSE or RV S' may be more useful in demonstrating subclinical dysfunction. The correlation of PAS with RV FAC and MPI may indicate that RV subclinical dysfunction is associated with early pulmonary vascular remodeling in patients with liver cirrhosis., (© 2022 Wiley Periodicals LLC.)

- Abstract
Background: Iron deficiency is one of the most common metabolic disorders worldwide and affects multiple organs and systems including the cardiovascular (CV) system. Iron deficiency can cause structural and functional changes in the myocardium. The aim of the study is to evaluate left ventricular (LV) functions in patients with low ferritin levels without anemia by two-dimensional "speckle tracking" echocardiography (2D STE)., Methods: We studied 90 participants (all female) that were divided into two groups according to ferritin levels (49 patients with ferritin levels <30 ng/mL, 41 age-matched controls with >30 ng/mL). Patients with anemia (hemoglobin level <12 g/dL), known CV disease, diabetes mellitus, low ejection fraction (<55%), active infection, high ferritin levels (>200 ng/mL) were excluded. All patients were evaluated by transthoracic echocardiography. In addition to conventional echocardiographic parameters and Doppler measurements, LV global longitudinal strain (GLS) and strain rate (GLSR) were obtained by 2D STE., Results: Mean ferritin level was 18.96 ± 7.29 ng/mL in low ferritin group, and was 61.22 ± 26.14 ng/mL in control group. There were no significant differences according to conventional and Doppler echocardiographic parameters between the groups. LV GLS and GLSR values were significantly lower in low ferritin group comparing with control group (17.31% ± 1.56 and 18.96% ± 1.53, p < 0.001; 0.64 ± 0.13 1/s and 0.81 ± 0.13 1/s, p < 0.001, respectively). There was a significant positive correlation between ferritin levels and LV GLS and GLSR values in study group (r = 0.482, p < 0.001; r = 0.387, p < 0.001, respectively). Ferritin level was also detected as an independent risk factor for GLS value < -18% in logistic regression analysis. In ROC curve analysis, the area under the curve for predicting GLS < -18% was 0.801 (p < 0.001, 95% CI 0.70-0.89) and the threshold of ferritin value was 28.5 ng/mL (sensitivity 76.1%, specificity 77.3%)., Discussion: Low ferritin levels can cause subclinical LV systolic dysfunction in patients without anemia. STE provides detailed information about LV functions. With larger studies, these patients should be followed more closely and considered for iron replacement treatment before developing anemia.

- Abstract
Introduction: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic led to a lockdown period. Confinement periods have been related to unhealthy lifestyle behaviors. Our study aimed to determine weight change, changes in eating and exercise habits, the presence of depression and anxiety, and diabetes mellitus (DM) status in a cohort of patients with obesity., Methods: The study was undertaken in nine centers of Collaborative Obesity Management (COM) of the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) in Turkey. An e-survey about weight change, eating habits, physical activity status, DM status, depression, and anxiety was completed by patients. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) score was used to determine physical activity in terms of metabolic equivalents (METs). A healthy nutrition coefficient was calculated from the different categories of food consumption. The Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and General Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7) Questionnaire were used for determining depression and anxiety, respectively., Results: Four hundred twenty-two patients (age 45 ± 12.7 years, W/M = 350/72) were included. The healthy nutrition coefficient before the pandemic was 38.9 ± 6.2 and decreased to 38.1 ± 6.4 during the pandemic (p < 0.001). Two hundred twenty-nine (54.8%) patients gained weight, 54 (12.9%) were weight neutral, and 135 (32.3%) lost weight. Patients in the weight loss group had higher MET scores and higher healthy nutrition coefficients compared with the weight gain and weight-neutral groups (p < 0.001). The PHQ and GAD scores were not different between the groups. Percent weight loss was related to healthy nutrition coefficient (CI: 0.884 [0.821-0.951], p = 0.001) and MET categories (CI: 0.408 [0.222-0.748], p = 0.004). One hundred seventy patients had DM. Considering glycemic control, only 12 (8.4%) had fasting blood glucose <100 mg/dL and 36 (25.2%) had postprandial BG <160 mg/dL. When patients with and without DM were compared in terms of dietary compliance, MET category, weight loss status, PHQ-9 scores, and GAD-7 scores, only MET categories were different; 29 (11.7%) of patients in the nondiabetic group were in the highly active group compared with 5 (2.9%) in the diabetic group., Conclusion: The COVID-19 lockdown resulted in weight gain in about half of our patients, which was related to changes in physical activity and eating habits. Patients with DM who had moderate glycemic control were similar to the general population in terms of weight loss but were less active., (© 2022 The Author(s). Published by S. Karger AG, Basel.)

A series of novel oxo-hydrazone and spirocondensed-thiazolidine derivatives of imidazo[2,1-b]thiazole were synthesized and evaluated for their antioxidant activity. The antioxidant activity of 18 newly synthesized compounds and 12 previously reported compounds bearing similar scaffold, were evaluated by three different methods: inhibition of FeCl
3 /ascorbate system-induced lipid peroxidation of lecithin liposome (anti-LPO), scavenging activity against ABTS radical and Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP) activity. 4h, 5h, and 6h displayed the highest anti-LPO and ABTS radical removal activity. Also, in FRAP analysis, 4i and 4a displayed the best activity. In addition to the in vitro analysis, docking studies targeting the active site of Human peroxiredoxin 5 (PDB ID: 1HD2) were employed to explore the possible interactions of these compounds with the receptor. Structure-activity relationships, as well as virtual ADME studies, were carried out and a relationship between biological, electronic, and physicochemical qualifications of the target compounds was determined., Competing Interests: Declaration of Competing Interest The authors declare that they have no known competing financial interests or personal relationships that could have appeared to influence the work reported in this paper. - Abstract
The last decade has proven that amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is clinically and genetically heterogeneous, and that the genetic component in sporadic cases might be stronger than expected. This study investigates 1,200 patients to revisit ALS in the ethnically heterogeneous yet inbred Turkish population. Familial ALS (fALS) accounts for 20% of our cases. The rates of consanguinity are 30% in fALS and 23% in sporadic ALS (sALS). Major ALS genes explained the disease cause in only 35% of fALS, as compared with ~70% in Europe and North America. Whole exome sequencing resulted in a discovery rate of 42% (53/127). Whole genome analyses in 623 sALS cases and 142 population controls, sequenced within Project MinE, revealed well-established fALS gene variants, solidifying the concept of incomplete penetrance in ALS. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) with whole genome sequencing data did not indicate a new risk locus. Coupling GWAS with a coexpression network of disease-associated candidates, points to a significant enrichment for cell cycle- and division-related genes. Within this network, literature text-mining highlights DECR1, ATL1, HDAC2, GEMIN4, and HNRNPA3 as important genes. Finally, information on ALS-related gene variants in the Turkish cohort sequenced within Project MinE was compiled in the GeNDAL variant browser (www.gendal.org)., (© 2020 Wiley Periodicals LLC.)

- Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the factors that affect the dyadic adjustment and quality of life of individuals receiving infertility treatment and to evaluate the effect of dyadic adjustment on their quality of life. This study was conducted as a descriptive and cross-sectional study with 209 males and 213 females. The study data was collected using an introductory information form about socio-demographic characteristics, the Dyadic Adjustment Scale and the FertiQol Scale. The main findings of the study were that gender and marital status influenced dyadic adjustment and quality of life (p <0.05), and that income status affected only dyadic adjustment (p <0.05). There was a statistically significant relationship (37%) between scores for dyadic adjustment and scores for quality of life (p <0.001). It was determined that females in infertility treatment had lower dyadic adjustment and quality of life than men.

- Abstract
Objective: To investigate the validity and reliability of modified Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE-E) for illiterate patients in a Turkish population with Alzheimer's disease (AD)., Method: A total of 107 illiterate patients with Alzheimer's Disease (women: 65, men: 42) and 68 illiterate healthy volunteer subjects (women: 36, men: 32) were included in the study. MMSE-I and Geriatrics Depression Scale were performed on all subjects, Alzheimer patients were also administered Basic Activities of Daily Living (B- ADL). Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR) was used to determine the severity of disease, while a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was performed to analyze the cut-off scores of MMSE-I, and the positive/negative predictive values that were calculated for the optimal cut-off scores. Internal consistency was measured using Cronbach's coefficient . Additionally, correlations between total MMSE-I score and the CDR, B-ADL, and GDS scores were examined., Results: The MMSE-I scores significantly and inversely correlated with CDR (-0.82, p=0.000) and B-ADL scores (-0.051, p=0.000). The optimal cut-off points of MMSE-I were 23/24, which yielded a sensitivity of 99.0% - %100.0, a specificity of 98.5% - 97.0%, and an AUC of 1.0/1.0, respectively. Reliability of the MMSE-I was high α = 0.70)., Conclusion: The total MMSE-I score was able to differentiate the AD group from the control group.

- Abstract
A novel series of indolylthiosemicarbazides (6a-6g) and their cyclization products, 4-thiazolidinones (7a-7g), have been designed, synthesized and evaluated, in vitro, for their antiviral activity against a wide range of DNA and RNA viruses. Compounds 6a, 6b, 6c and 6d exhibited notable antiviral activity against Coxsackie B4 virus, at EC50 values ranging from 0.4 to 2.1 μg/mL. The selectivity index (ratio of cytotoxic to antivirally effective concentration) values of these compounds were between 9 and 56. Besides, 6b, 6c and 6d also inhibited the replication of two other RNA viruses, Sindbis virus and respiratory syncytial virus, although these EC50 values were higher compared to those noted for Coxsackie B4 virus. The SAR analysis indicated that keeping the free thiosemicarbazide moiety is crucial to obtain this antiviral activity, since the cyclization products (7a-7g) did not produce any antiviral effect., (Copyright © 2015 Elsevier Ltd.
