Türkiye’nin temel meselelerinin başında gelen göç konusu ülkenin en önemli konu başlıklarından birini oluşturmaktadır. Göç etkileri ve boyutları bakımından sürekli farklılaşan bir olgudur. Göç ile mücadele etmek ve buna dönük yeni çözümler üretmek Türkiye’nin ele alması gereken önemli bir konudur. Hiç şüphesiz, bölgesel ve küresel açıdan Türkiye’nin konumu, bundan sonra da oluşacak yeni göçlerin ve bunlara dair çözüm arayışlarını gündemde tutmaya devam edecektir. Bu araştırma Türkiye’nin geliştirdiği göç politikalarının, göçmenlerin entegrasyonları ile haklara erişimleri bağlamında eğitim hakkına erişimleri üzerine bir değerlendirme yapmayı amaçlamaktadır. Çalışma sonunda; uzun kalış sürelerinin göçmenlerin toplum tarafından kabulünü olumsuz etkilediği bunun bir sonucu olarak da göçmenlerin entegrasyonunun toplumda bir karşılığının olmadığı ve göçmen çocukların eğitim hakkına erişimlerinin istenilen düzeye ulaşılamadığı dikkat çekmektedir. Araştırmanın, göçmenlerin entegrasyonu ve eğitimi ile ilgili olarak bundan sonra yapılacak çalışmalar ile göçmenlerin entegrasyonu ve eğitimi ile ilgili politika yapıcı ve uygulayıcılara katkı sağlaması beklenmektedir., Migration, which is one of the main issues of Turkey, constitutes one of the most important topics of the country. Migration is a phenomenon that is constantly changing in terms of its effects and dimensions. Combating migration and producing new solutions for it is an important issue that Turkey should address. Undoubtedly, Turkey's regional and global position will continue to keep new migrations and the search for solutions for them on the agenda. This research aims to make an assessment of the immigration policies developed by Turkey on the integration of immigrants and their access to the right to education in the context of their access to rights. At the end of the study; It is noteworthy that long stay periods negatively affect the acceptance of immigrants by the society, and as a result of this, the integration of immigrants does not have a counterpart in the society and the access of immigrant children to the right to education cannot be reached at the desired level. It is expected that the research will contribute to the future studies on the integration and education of immigrants and policy makers and practitioners related to the integration and education of immigrants.

Optimization and control of the microstructure is vital for improving performance and service life of the steel components. Development of non-destructive techniques for microstructure characterization has been a challenging task for many years. Magnetic Barkhausen Noise method is a non-destructive evaluation technique with high potential for characterization of steels. This paper summarizes the related studies performed at METU.

The effect of the binding of various polyfunctional groups to polystyrene's (PS's) aromatic ring on the elastic properties of the PS were investigated by an ultrasonic method. Various sets of samples were prepared by chemical modification of pure PSs having different molecular weights with SA, maleic anhydride, and phthalic anhydride. The ultrasonic wave velocities of modified PSs were measured with the pulse-echo method at room temperature by a computer-controlled analyzer and a digital oscilloscope. The values of the acoustic impedance, Poisson's ratio, and elasticity constants of the samples were calculated by the measured values of the densities and sound velocities. The longitudinal and shear wave velocities and the values of all elastic constants increased with chemical modification of the pure PS. (C) 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Shot peening is a cold working process by which residual compressive stresses are induced in the surface and near-surface region to increase the fatigue strength and the resistance to stress corrosion cracking This study covers non-destructive evaluation of surface residual stresses in the shot peened steel components by the magnetic Barkhausen noise method For this purpose various sets of steel specimens were prepared by a controlled shot peening process with different intensities impact angles and coverage values The measurements showed that a clear relationship exists between surface residual stresses and the Barkhausen noise signals

The aim of this study is to characterise the microstructures of the as-quenched and tempered SAE 1040 steel specimens by sound velocity and attenuation measurements. An initial heat treatment was applied to the specimens to obtain a uniform starting microstructure. Following 850 degrees C/0.5 h austenitisation and water-quenching of all specimens, a tempering process was applied at 200 degrees C and 600 degrees C for 2 h. Microstructures of the specimens were characterised first by metallography and hardness measurements. Then, the velocities of both longitudinal and transversal waves were measured. Backwall echo patterns were obtained to compare the attenuation behaviour. By using the specimens having the same thickness, and by eliminating the effects of grain size and texture, only the influence of microstructural phases on sound velocity and attenuation was investigated. Sound velocity increased as a function of tempering temperature, however no meaningful variation in sound attenuation was observed.

Bu tezde, çeliklere su verme işleminin sonlu eleman yöntemi ile modellenmesi, buna dayanılarak geliştirilen bilgisayar programı, ve x-ışınları kırınımı ile yapılan kalıntı gerilme ölçümleri sunulmaktadır. Modelde, eksenel simetriye sahip parçalar temel alınmıştır. Hedeflenen sanayi uygulamaları, çatlak oluşumunun önlenmesi, su verme işlem parametrelerinin ve boyutsal etkilerin kontrolü, optimum servis davranışı için en uygun kalıntı gerilme dağılımının ve mikroyapının elde edilmesidir. Modelde, su verme işleminin tamamı incelenerek kalıntı gerilmeler hesaplanmaktadır. Sıcaklık dağılımı, konvektif sınır koşullarının etkilediği, doğrusal olmayan ve zamana bağlı ısı transferi problemine ait denklemlerin çözülmesi ile elde edilmektedir. Formüller faz dönüşümlerinden kaynaklanan ısı değişimlerini de İçermektedir. Soğuma eğrileri, basamak şeklinde kısa süreli eş- sıcaklık adımlarına dönüştürülmekte, ve eş-sıcaklık-dönüşüm (İT) diyagramları kullanılarak oluşan fazların miktarı bulunmaktadır. Gerilmelerin hesaplanmasında küçük gerinmeli şekil değiştirme ve termo-elasto-plastik malzeme davranışı temelalınmıştır. Sıcaklık farklarından ve faz dönüşümlerinden kaynaklanan gerinmeler yükleme adımlan olarak uygulanmıştır. Formüllerde, von Mises akma kriteri kullanılmış, eşyönlü doğrusal gerinme sertleşmesi varsayılmış, ve faz dönüşümlerinin plastik deformasyona olan etkisi dikkate alınmıştır. Elasto-plastik problemin çözümünde teğetsel modül yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Programda kullanılan tüm malzeme özellikleri sıcaklığa ve fazlara göre değişmektedir. Geliştirilen program, elde edilen sonuçlar önceki çalışmalarla ve x-ışınlan kırınımıyla ölçülen kalıntı gerilmelerle karşılaştırılarak kontrol edilmiştir. Bu programın, malzeme özelliklerinin ve su verme işlemi parametrelerinin soğuma hızlarına, faz dönüşümlerine, iç ve kalıntı gerilmelere olan etkilerinin incelenmesine yardımcı olabileceği sonucuna varılmıştır. Deneysel çalışmalarda, C60 çeliğinden silindir, ortadan delinmiş ve merkezden kaçık olarak delinmiş silindirlerden oluşan çeşitli numune serileri hazırlanmıştır. Su verme işlemlerinden sonra, parça yüzeyindeki kalıntı gerilmelerin eksenel ve teğetsel bileşenleri x-ışınları kırınımıyla ölçülmüş, aynca kalıntı gerilmelerin derinlik profilleri elde edilmiştir. Sonuçta, su verme koşullarının yanısıra, numunelerdeki delik çaplarının ve merkezden kaçıklık derecelerinin de parçada oluşan kalıntı gerilmeleri önemli ölçüde etkilediği belirlenmiştir. The aimed industrial applications are avoidance of crack formation, control of dimensional effects and quench parameters, achievement of a desired microstructure and residual stress distribution for an optimum service behavior. In the finite element modeling, residual stresses are calculated through a tracing of the whole time history of quenching. Temperature distribution is calculated by solving the equation governing a non-linear transient heat conduction problem with convective boundary conditions. The latent heat contributions due to phase transformations are included. Volume fractions of phases are determined by discretizing the cooling curves in a succession of isothermal steps and using the IT-diagrams. In the stress calculations, small-strain deformation and thermo-elasto-plastic material behavior are assumed. Thermal and transformation strain rates are applied as load steps. Constitutive equations are defined by a yield function based on the von Mises' yield criterion and the massociated flow rule. Isotropic linear strain hardening is assumed, and effect of phase transformation on plastic flow is included. The elasto-plastic problem is solved by the tangent modulus method. All material properties are considered as dependent on temperature and the phases. The model is verified by comparing the results with previous studies and residual stress measurements. It is concluded that the program can be utilized to investigate the effects of both the material properties and the quenching medium on the cooling rate, microstructural evolution, internal stress and residual stress distribution in the component In the experimental part, series of samples are prepared from C60 steel such as solid cylinders, hollow cylinders, and cylinders with eccentrically drilled holes. Tangential and axial components of surface residual stresses are measured by x-ray diffraction, and depth profile of residual stresses are also obtained. The results show that besides the quenching conditions the diameter and eccentricity of holes have important influences on the residual stress state. Yüksek dayançlı düşük alaşımlı çelikler, içerdikleri mikro alaşım elementleri ve termomekanik haddeleme üretim metodunun sonucu olarak oldukça iyi mukavemet ve tokluğa sahiptir. Mekanik özelliklerindeki avantajlar nedeniyle boru hatlarında kullanımları oldukça fazladır. Boruların kaynaklanması sırasında ısı girdisi ve ısıl döngüler etkisiyle malzemede oluşan ergime bölgesinin ve ısıdan etkilenen bölgenin mikroyapıları değişmekte ve bu durum malzemenin kırılma tokluğu gibi birçok özelliğini etkilemektedir. Gazaltı kaynak yöntemi kısa zamand nispeten kaliteli bir kaynak elde edilmesi, basit olması ve bir cüruf oluşturucuya ve cüruf temizlemeye ihtiyaç olmaması gibi avantajlara sahiptir. Bu çalışmada kaynaklanmış API 5L X70M boru hattı çeliklerinin kırılma tokluğu davranışı incelenmiştir. Uygulanan kaynak paso sayısına dayanan ısı girdisi ve ısıl döngülerin yerel gevrek bölge oluşumuna ve kırılma davranışı üzerine etkileri araştırılmıştır. High strength low alloy steels are widely used in line pipe applications since they have reasonably high strength and toughness due to their micro-alloying elements and production via thermomechanically controlled process. During welding of these steels, microstructures of the fusion zone and the heat affected zone consisting globular and acicular ferrite alter due to induced heat and thermal cycles. Consequently, changes in the microstructure affects the mechanical properties such as fracture toughness. Gas metal arc welding used in line pipe applications has several advantages such as high quality welds in short time, simplicity, no extra flux is needed, and no slag. The primary aim of this work to understand the effects of heat input and number of thermal cycles in gas metal arc welding on the fracture toughness of API 5L X70M steel. Effects of heat input and thermal cycles originating from weld passes on formation of local brittle zones and effect of local brittle zones on general fracture mechanism were investigated. Particular emphasis has been placed on the coarse grained heat affected zone. 135

Bu çalışmada uygulanan ısıl işlemler ile AISI 4135 çeliğinin hasar toleransındaki iyileştirmeler sunulmuştur. Kullanım sırasında meydana gelebilecek olan yorulma hasarlarına karşı uygulanacak olan ısıl işlemlerin optimizasyonu hedeflenmiştir. Her bir ısıl işlem sürecinin aks geometrileri üzerindeki uygulanabilirliği de çalışmada ele alınmıştır. Isıl işlemlerin hasar toleransı üzerindeki genel etkisi, eşik gerilim yoğunluğu faktörü ve yorulma mukavemetleri karşılaştırılarak yorumlanmıştır. Ferritik-perlitik, beynitik ve martenzitik iç yapıların yorulma çatlaklarına karşı olan dayanımları Kitagawa-Takahashi analizi yapılarak belirlenmiştir. Mikroyapısal değişikliklerin mekanik özelliklere etkisi detaylı bir şekilde araştırılmıştır. Mikroyapısal morfolojinin hasar toleransı üzerindeki etkisi, taramalı elektron mikroskobu (SEM) ile çekilen kırık yüzey fotoğrafları baz alınarak tartışılmıştır. Uygulanan ısıl işlemler sonucunda elde edilen mikroyapıların ferritik-perlitik mikroyapısı ile karşılaştırıldığında mekanik özelliklerinin daha iyi sonuçlar verdiği gösterilmiştir. Ayrıca mikroyapısal modifikasyonlar malzemenin hasar toleransını ve gerilim yoğunluk eşik faktörünü artırarak iyileştirmiştir. Avoiding early fatigue failure of the AISI 4135 steel shafts in trains is an important task. This study aims to improve the damage tolerance of AISI 4135 steel by modifying its microstructure via heat treatment. The overall effect of various heat treatment procedures on the damage tolerance was analyzed by considering the threshold stress intensity factor and fatigue strength. Detailed investigations on the mechanical properties were performed, and fracture surfaces were investigated. The resistance of the steel specimens having ferritic-pearlitic, bainitic and tempered-martensitic microstructure against initiation and propagation of the small flaws were demonstrated by constructing Kitagawa-Takahashi diagrams. The results showed that ferritic-pearlitic AISI 4135 axles that are being utilized in service is inappropriate, and the damage tolerance of these axles regarding the fatigue crack propagation threshold can be remarkably improved via isothermal or quench-temper applications. 101

Uçak parçaların yorulma ömürleri, bilyeli dövme işlemiyle yüzeyine yakın bölgelerde basma nitelikli kalıntı gerilmeleri oluşturularak uzatılabilir. Kalıntı gerilmelerinin derinlik profili ve büyüklüğü bilyeli dövme işlem parametrelerine bağlıdır. Havacılık sektörü bilyeli dövme yöntemi uygulanmış parçalardaki kalıntı gerilimini ölçmek için hızlı ve kolay bir tahribatsız muayene yöntemine ihtiyaç duymaktadır.Bu çalışma bilyeli dövme işleminin AISI 4140 çeliklerindeki yorulma ömrüne olan etkisini ve parça yüzeyinde oluşan kalıntı gerilmelerin Manyetik Barkhausen Gürültüsü yöntemiyle tahribatsız olarak belirlenerek incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bu sayede, MBN ölçüm sonuçlarının yorulma ömrüyle ilişkilendirilmesi ve bilyeli dövme işleminin başarısının tahribatsız olarak doğrulanması mümkün olabilir. The fatigue performance of aircraft parts can be improved by inducing compressive residual stresses in the near-surface zone by shot-peening. The depth profile and the magnitude of residual stresses depend on the shot peening parameters. Aircraft industry requires an easy and rapid non-destructive method for determination of residual stress state to verify the achievement of the desired results of shot-peening. This study aims to determine nondestructively the residual stresses at the surface by the Magnetic Barkhausen Noise (MBN) method, and also, to investigate the effect of the shot peening severity on the fatigue life of AISI 4140 steel. By this way, it might be possible to correlate the MBN measurement results with fatigue life and to verify nondestructively the success of shot-peening process to achieve the desired fatigue life. 111

Mikro alaşımlanmış ve termomekanik haddelenmiş yüksek dayançlı düşük alaşımlı boru hattı çelikleri optimum dayanç ve tokluk değerlerini kendilerine has mikroyapısal bileşenleri sayesinde karşılamaktadır. Kaynaklı üretim aşamasında kaçınılmaz bir etkisi olan ısı girdisi parça üzerinde oluşan erime bölgesindeki mikroyapısal farklılaşmalara dolaylı olarak etki etmektedir. Bu farklılaşmalara ek olarak, malzemenin kırılma tokluğu değerleri temelde malzemenin kimyasal yapısı ve kaynaklı üretim aşamasındaki ısıl süreçlere bağlı olarak değişmektedir. Boru hatlarının üretiminde genellikle tozaltı kaynağı tercih edilmektedir. Ancak henüz yaygınlaşmamış bir metod olan hibrit plazma ark kaynağı üretim aşamasında sağlayabildiği dolgu malzemesi tasarrufu ve toplam ısı girdisi düşüşü etkenler dolayısıyla tozaltı kaynağının yerine önerilebilir. Bu tezin amacı X70M boru hattı çeliklerinin belirtilen yollarla kaynaklanabilirliğinin malzemenin kırılma tokluğu özelliklerinin üzerindeki etkisini ortaya çıkarabilmektir. Micro-alloyed and thermomechanically rolled HSLA line pipe steels promise optimum strength and toughness. Their microstructure contains generally globular and acicular ferrite. However, the heat induced by welding during line pipe fabrication alters the microstructure at the proximity of the fusion zone which affects indirectly microstructure of the heat affected zone, consequently the fracture toughness, is governed by the chemistry of the material and the thermal cycles during the welding process. In fabrication generally submerged arc welding (SAW) is applied. The hybrid plasma arc welding (HPAW) might save filler consumption and reduce the heat input of the process. The purpose of this work is to investigate weldability of X70M by using the key-hole based hybrid welding process by focusing on fracture toughness. 152

Semente edilmiş çeliklerin kullanım performansı, sementasyon sıcaklığı ve süresi gibi işlem parametreleriyle kontrol edilebilen sementasyon katmanındaki kalıntı gerilimlerin durumuna bağlıdır. Kalıntı gerilim durumunun ve bazı malzeme özelliklerinin saptanmasında tahribatsız muayene yöntemlerinin kullanılması, ölçüm hızından ve otomasyon ile parçanın tamamının kontrol edilmesine olanak sağlamasından kaynaklı endüstriyel uygulamalarda oldukça önem kazanmıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı Manyetik Barkhausen Gürültüsü (MBN) yönteminin kalıntı gerilmelerin ölçülmesindeki etkinliğini ve güvenilirliğini incelemek ve sementasyon parametrelerindeki değişimlerin AISI/SAE 8620 çeliğindeki kalıntı gerilme durumuna olan etkilerini gözlemlemektir. Bu amaçla, sementasyon süresi ve menevişleme sıcaklığı değiştirilerek AISI/SAE 8620 çeliği numunelerinden MBN ölçümleri alınarak kalıntı gerilim durumları gözlemlenmiş ve elde edilen sonuçlar X-ışını kırınımı yöntemi ile karşılaştırılmıştır. Ayrıca, menevişleme sıcaklığındaki değişimlerin martensit morfolojisinin değişmesine ve farklı gerilim giderme durumlarına neden olduğu gözlemlenmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçların analiz edilmesi için numunelerin içyapıları da incelenmiş ve mikro sertlik ölçümleri alınmıştır. Sementasyon süresindeki artış yüzeyde basma yönündeki kalıntı gerilim miktarının artmasına sebep olmuş ve buna bağlı olarak Barkhausen sinyallerinin aktivitesini azaltmıştır. Kalıntı gerilme ve MBN sinyalleri arasında belirgin bir ilişki gözlenmiştir. Industrial performance of the carburized steels is mainly dependent on the residual stress state in the carburized layer that is controlled by the process parameters such as carburizing temperature and time. Non-destructive evaluation of the material properties and residual stress state has been gained importance for industrial applications due to its advantages such as measurement speed and complete control possibility of the components by automation. The aim of this thesis is to investigate the efficiency of magnetic Barkhausen noise (MBN) method for determining the residual stresses and monitoring variations in residual stress state in AISI/SAE 8620 steel. For this purpose, MBN measurements were performed to observe residual stress state on a series of samples prepared by changing carburizing time and tempering temperature, and then, the results were compared with those of X-ray diffraction methods. Microstructural examinations and micro hardness values were also investigated to analyze the results of the measurements. Increase in the carburizing time up to critical level caused to increase the compressive residual stresses in the carburized layer that is detected as a reduction in MBN emission. Moreover, it was observed that changing tempering temperature causes the change in the martensite morphology and different stress relaxation levels. A clear relationship has been observed between residual stresses and MBN signals. 171

Bu çalışmanın amacı, demiryolu akslarında aşınma çatlağı bağlantılı yorulma hasarlarını azaltmak için, çok eksenli yorulma modellerini esas alan ve aks tasarımı aşamasında kullanılabilecek bir prosedürün geliştirilmesidir. Bu amaçla, teker-aks sıkı geçirmelerindeki aşınma çatlağı bağlantılı erken yorulma hasarları mekanik ve metalurjik açılardan ele alınmıştır. Mikroyapı, temas yüzeyi özellikleri ve geçme sıkılığının aşınma-yorulma çatlaklarının oluşumuna etkileri ve bu tip çatlakların oluşumunu önlemeye yönelik mekanik ve metalurjik işlemler irdelenmiştir. Sayısal analizlerde ilk olarak, aşınma bölgesine uygulanan yük çevrimleri sonlu elemanlar analiziyle belirlenmiştir. Takiben, gerilme tabanlı çok eksenli yorulma modelleri vasıtasıyla bu yük çevrimleri sırasında oluşabilecek çatlaklar için hassas bölgeler, yorulma endeksi değeri ile ifade edilmiştir. Elde edilen yorulma endeksi değerleri, Kitagawa analizinden elde edilen deneysel yorulma gerilmeleriyle karşılaştırılarak, aşınma çatlaklarının başlangıç ve ilerlemesinin eşik koşulları tanımlanmıştır. Son olarak, izin verilebilir hatalara karşılık gelen etkin gerilme yoğunluğu faktörü ve teğetsel gerilmeler ağırlık fonksiyonu yöntemi ile hesaplanmıştır. Hesaplamalar sonucunda elde edilen değerler, yorulma nedeniyle kullanım dışı kalan 34CrMo4 aksları üzerinde yapılan deneylerin ve hasar analizlerinin sonuçlarıyla karşılaştırılmıştır. Karşılaştırma sonuçları, sadece tek eksenli yorulma deneylerinin sonuçlarına ihtiyaç duyan bu prosedürün, akslardaki aşınma yorulması riskinin tasarım aşamasında değerlendirilmesi için kullanılabileceğini göstermektedir. Bu prosedür, uluslararası standartların zorunlu tuttuğu gerçek boyutlu komponent deneyleri öncesinde, tasarımcılara farklı boyut ve sıkı geçme parametrelerinin etkilerini değerlendirme imkanı da sunmaktadır. The aim of this thesis is to develop a procedure based on the multi-axial fatigue theories that can be used at the design stage for minimizing fretting fatigue failures of the railway axles. The premature fretting fatigue failure of the press-fitted wheel-axle assembly was investigated by means of mechanical and metallurgical methods. First, the loading path obtained through finite element analysis was implemented into the stress-based multiaxial fatigue models to predict possible sites of crack initiation. Then, the computed multiaxial fatigue index of the identified loading path was compared with the reduced fatigue limit presented by the Kitagawa analysis to describe the threshold conditions for fretting fatigue initiation and to define the onset of fatigue crack propagation. The stress intensity factor and the tangential stress at the permissible defects were determined by using the weight functions. The results of the analyses were compared to and verified with those obtained from the metallurgical investigations of the full-scale 34CrMo4 axles failed during service. The effects of the microstructure, the contact surface, and the applied press-fit interference on the initiation of fretting fatigue cracks were discussed. The possible mechanical and metallurgical treatments to improve the fretting fatigue resistance were presented. The consistency between the results of fractographic investigations and numerical analyses reveals that the proposed procedure can be used as an effective tool to assess the risk of fretting damage through uniaxial coupon tests. This procedure also gives designers an opportunity to evaluate the effects of the selected assembly and geometry parameters on fretting fatigue before conducting expensive and time-consuming full-scale axle tests which are requested by international standards. 169

Kaynaklı yapılardaki yorulma hasarı, mühendislik uygulamalarında karşılaşılan temel sorunlardan biridir. Kaynaklanan Al-alaşımlarında ısıdan etkilenen bölgenin iri taneli içyapısı ve zayıf mekanik özellikleri nedeniyle yorulma hasarlarına yatkın olduğu bilinmektedir. Bu nedenle, ısıdan etkilenen bölgede yapılacak herhangi bir iyileştirme, kaynaklı yapının kullanım ömrünü uzatacaktır. Bu çalışma, kaynak öncesinde plakaların kaynak hazırlık bölgelerine sürtünme karıştırma işlemi uygulanarak, kaynak sonrasında oluşan ısıdan etkilenen bölgenin mekanik özelliklerinin iyileşeceği ve yorulma çatlağı ilerleme hızının düşürülebileceği hipotezine dayanmaktadır. Deneysel çalışmalarda, 5083 alüminyum alaşımı plakalara iki farklı yöntem uygulandı: birinci yöntemde plakalar gaz metal ark kaynağı ile birleştirildi, ikinci yöntemde ise kaynak ısı girdisinden etkilenecek kaynak ağzı bölgesine sürtünme karıştırma işlemi uygulandıktan sonra gaz metal ark kaynağı yapıldı. Özelliklerdeki iyileşmeleri tespit etmek için sertlik, çekme ve yorulma çatlağı ilerleme testleri gerçekleştirildi; mikroyapılar ve kırılma yüzeyleri optik mikroskop ve elektron mikroskobu ile incelendi. Fatigue failure of the welded structures is a major problem in engineering applications. It is known that the heat affected zone (HAZ) of the welded Al-alloys is prone to fail due to coarse microstructure and poor mechanical properties. Therefore, any improvement in HAZ may extend the service life of the welded component. The hypothesis of this study is that localized application of friction stir processing (FSP) before welding may improve the mechanical properties of HAZ, and thus, may reduce the fatigue crack growth rate. The 5083 Al-alloy plates were joined by following two different routes: application of gas metal arc welding in a conventional way, and application of gas metal arc welding after FSP of the bevel zones of the plates which are going to be affected by heat input. To investigate the improvements, hardness, tensile and fatigue crack propagation tests were performed, and microstructures and fracture surfaces were investigated by optical and electron microscopy. 103

Yüzeyi sertleştirilmiş makine parçalarının kullanım ömrü ve performansı büyük ölçüde parçanın yüzeyinde oluşan ve yorulma davranışını doğrudan etkileyen kalıntı gerilim durumuna bağlıdır. Son zamanlarda, tüm endüstriyel sektörler için kalıntı gerilimlerin hızlı ve tahribatsız bir şekilde belirlenmesi önem kazanmıştır. Bu çalışma sementasyon ısıl işlemi uygulanmış 19CrNi5H çeliklerindeki artık gerilim dağılımlarının tahribatsız ve yarı tahribatsız yöntemler kullanılarak ölçümünü amaçlamaktadır. Bu çalışma süresince Manyetik Barkhausen Gürültüsü (MBN), X-ışınları kırınımı (XRD) ve Elektronik Benek Desen Girişim Ölçümü (ESPI) yardımı ile delik delme teknikleri kullanılmıştır. Artık gerilim ölçümlerinin yanı sıra, optik ve taramalı elektron mikroskobu kullanılarak içyapı analizi, sertlik ölçümleri ve spektroskopi analizi gerçekleştirilmiştir. Sementasyon işleminin kalıntı gerilim dağılımları üzerindeki etkisini anlayabilmek için, farklı sertleşme derinliğine sahip ve farklı sıcaklıklarda menevişlenmiş numuneler hazırlanmıştır. XRD ve ESPI metotları kullanılarak yapılan kalıntı gerilim ölçümleri, sertleşme derinliği boyunca baskı kalıntı gerilimlerinin oluştuğunu ve baskı kalıntı gerilime büyüklüğünün menevişleme sıcaklığındaki artış ile düştüğünü göstermektedir. MBN ölçüm sonuçları, Barkhausen Gürültüsünün sementasyon süresindeki azalış ve menevişleme sıcaklığındaki artış ile arttığını göstermektedir. Yapılan bu çalışma sonrası uygun bir kalibrasyon ile MBN tekniğinin sementasyon sonrası oluşan yüzey kalıntı gerilimlerinin ölçümünde kullanılabilir olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır. Service life and performance of the case-hardened machine parts are greatly dependent on the residual stress state in the surface layers which directly affects the fatigue behavior. Recently, all industrial sectors have been requested for a fast and non-destructive determination of residual stress. This study aims to monitor of the variations in surface residual stress distributions in the carburized 19CrNi5H steels by means of non-destructive and semi-destructive measurement techniques, Magnetic Barkhausen Noise (MBN), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), and Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry (ESPI) assisted hole drilling. Microstructural investigation by optical and scanning electron microscopy, hardness measurements, and spectroscopy analysis were also conducted. To comprehend the differences in the residual stress distributions, various samples were prepared by applying different duration of carburizing and tempering temperatures. Residual stress measurements carried out by XRD and ESPI assisted hole drilling showed that the compressive residual stress state exists for the case-hardened samples throughout the case depth regions, and the magnitude of the compressive residual stress decreases as the tempering temperature increases. MBN measurements showed that the BN activity increases with decreasing carburization time and increasing tempering temperature. It was concluded that MBN technique could be used to measure the surface residual stress distributions with a proper calibration operation. 200

Boru hatlarında kullanılan yüksek mukavemetli düşük alaşımlı çeliklerde ve yüzeysel çok pasolu kaynaklarda ve yüzey kaynak işlemlerinde kalıntı gerilmenin ve çarpılmanın oluşumu ve içyapı değişimi sayısal olarak incelenmiştir. Sıcaklık dağılımının, gerilme-şekil değiştirme durumunun ve faz değişimlerinin analizi için ESI SYSWELD & VISUAL WELD yazılımları kullanılarak üç boyutlu bir sonlu eleman prosedürü geliştirilmiştir. Simulasyonlardan elde edilen sonuçlar, erimiş havuz profili kalibrasyonu, içyapı inceleme, sertlik ölçümleri, X-ışını kırınımı ile kalıntı gerilme ölçümleri gibi çeşitli deneylerin ve ölçümlerin sonuçlarıyla karşılaştırılarak doğrulanmıştır. Ardışık kaynak pasolarının, pasolar arası sıcaklığın ve parça sabitlemenin sona erdirilmesi sıcaklığının kalıntı gerilme ve çarpılmaya etkileri incelenmiştir. Ardışık pasoların önceki pasolara ısıl işlem etkisi gösterdiği ve pasolar arası sıcaklığın artması ile kalıntı gerilme değerinin düştüğü ancak şekil bozulmasının önemli derecede arttığı tespit edilmiştir. İlave olarak, yüzey kaplama kaynağı işleminde yanyana yapılan kaynak pasosu yönünün ve sıralamasının etkisi üç farklı durum için araştırılmıştır. En düzensiz kaynaklamanın daha homojen kalıntı gerilme alanına ve deformasyona sebep olduğu anlaşılmıştır. Formation of residual stresses, distortion and microstructure evolution in multi-pass welding and surfacing welding on pipeline HSLA steels were numerically investigated. A procedure for three-dimensional finite element analysis of temperature field, stress-strain state and phase changes in weldments was developed by using ESI SYSWELD & VISUAL WELD software. Numerical results were verified by comparisons with the results of various tests and measurements, such as molten pool profile calibration, microstructure investigation, hardness measurement, residual stress measurement by XRD. Influences of the subsequent weld passes, the interpass temperature, and the unclamping temperature on the residual stress state were investigated. Subsequent weld passes accomplish partial PWHT on the previous weld passes. Higher interpass temperature decreases residual stresses, but shows greater effect on distortion. Besides, the effects of weld pass sequence and welding direction in surfacing welding were studied for three different cases. It was observed that the most uneven weld deposition mode results in more uniform residual stress field and deformation. 179

Bu çalışmada, sürtünme karıştırma prosesinin (SKP) kaynaklı Aluminum 5083 H111 plakalarının mikroyapı ve çatlak ilerleme davranışına etkisi araştırılmıştır. Ön çalışma olarak farklı dönme hızları, ilerleme hızları ve uç tipleri denenerek SKP parametreleri optimize edilmiştir. Mikroyapı incelemeleri, sertlik ve çekme deneyleri proses uygulanmış malzemelere yapılmıştır. Çalışmanın ikinci kısmında gaz metal ark kaynağıyla birleştirilen 5083 H111 plakalarının kaynak bölgesine sürtünme karıştırma prosesi uygulanmıştır. Çekme, sertlik, kırılma tokluğu ve çatlak ilerleme testleri ana metal, kaynak metali ve SKP uygulanmış kaynak metalinden çıkartılan numunelerle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Tane yapıları ve kırılma yüzeyleri optik mikroskop ve taramalı elektron mikroskobuyla incelenmiştir. Kaynak metalinin sertlik, çekme ve kırılma özellikleri SKP ile iyileştirilmiş ve sonuçların ardında yatan sebepler açıklanmaya çalışılmıştır. The purpose was to investigate the effects of post-weld friction stir processing (FSP) on the microstructure and fatigue crack propagation in Aluminum Alloy 5083 H111 weldments. As preliminary study, optimization trials were done in order to decide the type, rotational speed, and travel speed of the FSP tool. Microstructural examinations, hardness and tensile tests were done on as-processed materials. In the second part of the work, FSP was applied on the weld zone of the 5083 H111 plates that were joined by gas metal arc welding and a series of samples were prepared. Tensile, hardness, fracture toughness and fatigue crack propagation tests were carried out on the samples prepared from the base metal, weld metal and FSPed weld metal. Microstructures and fracture surfaces of the samples were investigated by optical microscope and scanning electron microscope. Some improvements in hardness, tensile and fracture properties in the weldment were obtained after FSP, and the results were compared and discussed to explain the reasons and main mechanisms. 122

Son yıllarda Faz Dizi ( PA ) yöntemi havacılık, petrol, gaz ve nükleer sektörlerinde kritik testler için geleneksel ultrasonik (UT) yönteme alternatif bir metot haline gelmiştir. Östenitik paslanmaz çeliklerde ses zayıflamasının yüksek olması, ses demetinin saçılması ve sapmasından dolayı östenitk paslanmaz çeliklerin ultrasonik yöntemlerle muayenesi oldukça zordur. Bu tezin amacı, yapay hatalara sahip östenitik paslanmaz çelik bloklar ile yapay ve doğal hataları barındıran kaynaklı plakada hata tespit bulma olasılığı (PoD) yaklaşımını kullanarak geleneksel UT ve faz dizi PA sistemlerinin hata tespit etme yeteneklerini karşılaştırmaktır. Ayrıca tane boyutu, mikro sertlik, ses zayıflaması ölçümleri, radyoskopik ve makroskopik muayeneler gerçekleştirilmiştir. 304 paslanmaz çelik olan üç tip test numunesi hazırlanmıştır. İlk numune farklı derinliklerde Ø2 mm çapta delikler olan bloktur; ikinci numune delikleri 5 mm ile 0,5 arasında değişen çaplarda aynı derinlikte olan bloktur ve üçüncü numune yapay ve kaynak hatalarını bulunduran kaynaklı plakadır. PA metodu otomatik kalibrasyon, ses demeti odaklama ve ses demetini farklı zamanlarda ateşleyerek kontrol edebilme özelliklerine rağmen, yapay hatalara sahip test bloklarında gerçekleştirilen hata tespit analizlerinde (PoD) yüzeye en yakın hatayı bulmak dışında büyük bir farklılık ortaya çıkarmamıştır. Fakat kaynaklı plakada yapılan muayenelerde faz dizisi (PA) metodu hata tespit sayısı, hataları konumlandırma ve boyutlandırma yönlerinden geleneksel UT yönteminden daha başarılıdır. In recent years Phased Array (PA) method has become an alternative to the conventional ultrasonic method for critical tests in aerospace, oil, gas and nuclear industries. There is a challenge for inspection of austenitic stainless steels due to high attenuation, skewing and scattering of sound beam. The aim of this thesis is to investigate and to compare the flaw detection abilities of conventional ultrasonic and PA systems using the probability of detection (PoD) approach for testing of austenitic stainless steel blocks and weldments having both artificial and natural defects. Grain size, micro hardness, attenuation measurements, radioscopic and macroscopic inspections were also performed. Three types of test blocks were prepared from AISI 304 steel. First specimen is the block having ø2 mm side drilled holes at different depths; second specimen has side drilled holes with varying diameters between 0.5 to 5 mm at the same depth; and the third specimen is the welded plate having both artificial and natural defects. Although PA method has automated calibration, beam focusing and steering abilities, the PoD analyses did not show remarkable advantage of PA for detecting artificial flaws, except those in the surface near zone. On the welded specimen, however, the PA inspection is clearly more successful than conventional method based on counts of detected flaw possibilities as well as positioning and sizing of the defects. While the automated PA system has superior detection and positioning abilities over the manual PA system, the manual PA system has superiority of faster scanning and swiveling of the probe which also brings the risk of human factor. Tahribatsız muayene tıptan ağır sanayiye kadar geniş uygulama alanına sahiptir. Geleneksel tahribatsız muayene metotları, sürekli geliştirilerek daha esnek ve kolay yorumlanabilir hale getirilmektedir. Ultrasonik metodun geliştirilmiş hali olan Faz Dizisi (PA: Phased Array) metodu konvansiyonel ultrasonik testin kullanıldığı hemen her alanda kullanılabilir. PA teknolojisinin avantajı, tek bir transdüser sistemi içinde çok sayıda küçük transdüserin faz farkı ile tetiklenip ultrasonik dalgaların kontrollü olarak farklı açılarda ve farklı mesafelerde odaklanarak muayene edilecek parçanın tamamen taranabilmesidir. Bu çalışmada, çeşitli yapay hatalara sahip ve farklı çeliklerden hazırlanan test blokları kullanılarak PA sisteminin geleneksel ultrasonik yönteme göre avantajları ve sınırlamaları araştırılmıştır. Bu amaçla, istatistiksel bir yöntem olan Hata Tespit Olasılığı (PoD: Probability of Detection) yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Applications of Non – Destructive Testing (NDT) are very broad varying from the medical to heavy industries. Several advanced NDT methods, mainly developed form of the conventional methods, are used to render the technique more flexible and easier to interpret. Ultrasonic Phased Array method can be employed in almost any test, where conventional Ultrasonic Testing (UT) has traditionally been used. The benefits of Phased Array technology over conventional UT come from its ability to use multiple elements to steer, focus and scan beams with a single transducer assembly. In this study, the advantages and limitations of the Phased Array system will be investigated via using several test blocks, prepared from different types of steels, having well-defined artificial defects. The reliability of the Phased Array and conventional Ultrasonic Testing methods will be compared using a statistical approach, the Probability of Detection (PoD). 100

Sertleştirme, rulman bileziklerinin nihai geometrilerinin ve malzeme karakteristiklerinin belirlendiği başlıca üretim basamaklardan biri olması açısından belki de en önemli ısıl işlem prosesidir. Isıl işlem için sonlu elemanlar benzetimi, bileşenin ısıl işlem sonrası özelliklerinin tahmin edilmesi istendiğinde fırınlarda yapılacak gerçek zamanlı deneylere göre maliyet ve zaman tasarrufu sağlaması açısından ön plana çıkmaktadır. Isıl işlem benzetimi, tüm fazların sıcaklığa bağlı olarak termo-fiziksel ve termo-mekanik özelliklerini içeren hassas bir şekilde oluşturulmuş malzeme veri setine ihtiyaç duymaktadır. Bununla birlikte, bu verilerin sadece bir kısmı 100Cr6 (SAE 52100) için kullanılabilir durumdadır. Bu çalışmada, sertleştirme ısıl işlemi benzetimi için gerekli olan, 100Cr6 rulman çeliğinin termo-mekanik ve termo-metalurjik özelliklerinin, deneysel ve hesaplamalı yöntemler kullanılarak oluşturulması amaçlanmıştır. Deneysel yöntemler kullanılarak; sıcaklığa bağlı olarak fiziksel özellikler; termal genleşme katsayısı belirlenmiş, sıcaklığa bağlı olarak mekanik özellikler; kuvvet-akma eğrileri, dönüşüm gerinmesi, termal gerinmeler, faz dönüşüm kinetiği; TTT/CCT diyagramları, kritik sıcaklıklar (Ms,Mf, Bs, Ac1, Ac3) hesaplanmış ve gerilimin faz dönüşümüne etkisi incelenmiştir. Termal iletkenlik, ısı sığası, elastik modülü, Poisson katsayısı, entalpi ve yoğunluk gibi değerler fiziksel tabanlı hesaplamalı yöntemler kullanılarak hesaplanmıştır. Through hardening is probably the most important heat treatment process for bearings as final geometrical and material characteristics of the final component are mainly determined in this step. Finite element simulation of heat treatment processes is stand out as a qualified solution for prediction of final properties of component due to advantages e.g. cost and time savings, over real-time furnace experiments. Heat treatment simulation needs accurately extracted material property database including thermo-physical and thermo-mechanical properties of the all phases as a function of temperature. However, only a fraction of these data are available for 100Cr6 (SAE 52100). The present study aimed to the determination of thermo-mechanical and thermo-metallurgical properties of 100Cr6 bearing steel, which are necessary for through hardening simulation, by using a combination of experimental and computational methods. Briefly, the study includes experimental determination of temperature dependent physical properties (e.g. thermal expansion coefficient), temperature dependent mechanical properties (e.g. flow curves, yield strengths, transformation strains, thermal strains), phase transformation kinetics, (e.g. TTT/CCT diagrams), critical temperatures (Ms, Mf, Bs, Ac1 and Ac3) andinvestigating the effect of stress on phase transformation. Thermal conductivity, heat capacity, elastic modulus, Poisson's ratio, enthalpy and density values were calculated using physically based computational methods. 144

İleri düzey malzemelerin geliştirilmesinde, eşkanallı açısal preslemenin (EKAP) benzersizliği, basitliği, kolay uygulanabilirliği ve etkin güçlendirme ve tane inceltme becerileri dolayısıyla özel bir yeri vardır. Öte yandan yaşlandırma yoluyla sertleştirme, uygulanmış ilk nanoteknoloji olarak düşünülebilecek yüz yıllık bir keşiftir. Ancak iki unsurun birleşik etkisi ve EKAPlanmış yapının ısıl kararlılığı, mekanizmaların anlaşılması için karmaşık ve ayrıntılı araştırma gerektiren zorlu konulardır.Bu çalışmada ilk olarak, EKAP ve EKAP sonrası çöktürme, çözeltiye alınıp yaşlandırılmış emsali ile karşılaştırılarak pek çok açıdan incelenmiştir. Çöktürme prosesinin homojenleştirme katkısı mikro indentasyonla görüntülenmiş; homojenlik derecesi sertlik inhomojenlik indeksi (Sİİ) ile karakterize edilmiştir. İki farklı numunede gözlenen sertlik, dolayısıyla gerinim, değerleri farklılıkları geri basınç farkı, magnezyum içeriği ve numune durumu açılarından araştırılmıştır.İkinci olarak da EKAPlanmış ve EKAP sonrası yaşlandırılmış numunelerin; orta yükseklikteki sıcaklıklara 1000 saate kadar uzun süreler maruz bırakıldıklarında nasıl tepki verdikleri incelenmiştir. EKAPlanmış ve 190°C'de bir saat yaşlandıktan sonra daha stabil ve daha homojen olabilen, Al 2024 alaşımının güvenli bir şekilde, uzun süreler kullanılabileceği bir üst limit sıcaklık değeri önerilmiştir.Bu çalışma boyunca mikroyapısal karakterizasyon yüksek çözünürlük elektron mikroskobu (HREM), taramalı elektron mikroskobu (SEM), elektron geri saçınım difraksiyonu (EBSD)ve optik mikroskopisi kullanılmıştır. Attributed primarily to its uniqueness, simplicity and ability for effective strengthening through grain refinement without reduction in cross sectional area, equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) has been known as one of the most important metal working process. The implementation of ECAP with precipitation hardening exhibits a promising strengthening mechanism to be applied to age-hardenable metals. On the other hand, the combined effect of precipitation hardening and excessive plastic strain is quite complicated and needs detailed investigations to understand the basics of strengthening mechanisms. In this respect, the experimental work in this thesis represents a substantial step forward to understand the strengthening mechanism resulted by a combined implementation of ECAP and precipitation hardening in aluminum 2024.In the first part of this study, various aspects of ECAP and post ECAP precipitation in comparison to solutionized and aged counterpart were investigated. Homogenization contribution of precipitation process was monitored via micro-hardness indentation and the degree of homogenization was characterized by hardness inhomogeneity index (HII). The variation of hardness, hence strain levels, observed in two different samples was also investigated considering level of back pressure, magnesium content and sample conditions.In the second part, the response of ECAPed and post-ECAP aged samples, when subjected to long term and moderate temperatures up to 1000 hours was investigated. A limiting temperature was suggested for the safe use of an ECAPed Al 2024.Throughout the study microstructural characterizations were performed using high resolution electron microscopy (HREM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and optical microscopy. 227

Eritme kaynak yöntemleriyle üretilen yapılarda, kaynak işlemi sırasında oluşan kalıntı gerilmeler ve kaynak kusurları kaynağın dayanaklığını, yapıların ömrünü ve kırılma tokluğunu çok etkilemektedir. Bu çalışmada thermo-elastoplastic sonlu eleman analizi yöntemi kullanılarak ve ABAQUS yazılımı ortamında 304L östenitik paslanmaz çelik iki plakanın, birleştirilmesi neticesinde oluşan kalıntı gerilmelerin büyüklüğü ve dağılımı elde edilmiştir. Ayrıca deneysel olarak tahribatsız test yöntemlerinden x ışını kırınımı yöntemi ve tahribatlı test yöntemlerinden delik delme yöntemi, kalıntı gerilmelerin ölçülmesi için kullanılmıştır. Sonuçların karşılaştırması sayısal ve deneysel yöntemlerle elde edilen kalıntı gerilme sonuçlarının birbirine yakın olduğu göstermektedir. In the welded structures, beside the negative effects of the weld defects, residual stresses induced by welding process influence the service performance and life of the structures, directly. In this study, butt welding of 304L austenitic stainless steel plates was modelled by thermo-elasto-plastic finite element method and for the modelling of the problem, the commercial ABAQUS software was used. In the simulations, instantaneous temperature and thermal stress distributions, and residual stresses in the plates after welding were calculated by changing the weld speed and weld current of the metal arc welding process. The residual stres values obtained from simulations were compared with those of the experimental measurements on the real samples performed by x-ray diffraction and hole drilling methods. It was observed that the results of simulations are in accordance with the experimental results. 126

Soğuk haddelenmiş ve tavlanmış düşük karbonlu çelik saçlarda doku oluşumu, takiben uygulanacak şekillendirme işlemleri ve servis performansı açısından önemlidir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, doku oluşumunun manyetik anizotropi üzerine olan etkisini tahribatsız olarak incelemektir. Farklı miktarlarda haddelemenin, tavlamanın ve gerilim gidermenin neden olduğu çeşitli doku ve kalıntı gerilim miktarlarına sahip olan numuneler hazırlanmıştır. 10o adımlarla 0-3600 aralığında Manyetik Barkhausen Gürültüsü ölçümleri yapılarak manyetik anizotropy haritaları çıkarılmıştır. Optik ve Taramalı Elektron Mikroskobu ile mikro yapı incelenmiş, sertlik ve çekme testleri uygulanmış ve X-ışını kırınımı metoduyla doku tayini yapılmıştır. Doku yapısı ile Barkhausen Gürültüsü sinyalleri arasında bağıntı kurulması amacıyla sonuçlar değerlendirilmiş ve karşılaştırılmıştır.Anahtar Deformation and annealing texture in the cold rolled low carbon steels is important for sheet metal forming operations and service performance. The aim of this study is to non-destructively investigate the effect of texture on magnetic anisotropy. Various samples having different textures and residual stress states, due to different % reduction in thickness, annealing and stress relieving treatment, were prepared. Texture maps were obtained by Magnetic Barkhausen noise measurements performed with 100 steps between the ranges of 00-3600 on the surface. Microstructure investigation by optical & scanning electron microscopy; hardness and tension tests were performed; and texture was determined by X-Ray diffraction method. The results were compared, evaluated and discussed to establish relationship between texture and magnetic Barkhausen Noise emission. 69

Yüksek dayançlı alüminyum alaşımından mühendislik parçalarının üretimi, kapsamlı yatırım gerektiren büyük tesislerde termo-mekanik işlemlerle mümkün olmaktadır. Bu işlemlerin tane boyutunu ancak 10 mikrona kadar düşürebilmesi ve işlem parametrelerinin her alaşım için yeniden ayarlanma gerekliliği dezavantaj olarak değerlendirilmektedir. Bu nedenle, Al alaşımları için alternatif imalat tekniklerinin geliştirilmesi için son zamanlarda çok sayıda araştırma yapılmıştır. Çalışmalar, aşırı plastik deformasyon ile çok ince taneli iç yapı elde edilerek, Al-alaşımlarının mukavemetinde önemli artış sağlanabildiğini göstermiştir.Bu çalışmanın konusu, alüminyum alaşımları için laboratuar ölçekli aşırı plastik deformasyon sistemleri tasarlayıp imal etmek ve elde edilen numuneleri karakterize etmektir. Çalışmada gerçekleşenler aşağıda aşamalı olarak özetlenmiştir: Önce, imal edilecek deformasyon düzeneklerinin tasarıma yardımcı olmak ve deformasyona etki eden faktörleri irdelemek için sonlu eleman analizi yöntemiyle modelleme çalışmaları yapılmıştır. İşlem parametrelerinin (kalıp geometrisi, sürtünme katsayısı) ve deforme edilen malzeme özelliklerinin (deformasyon pekleşmesi parametreleri/mekanizmaları ve deformasyon hızı hassasiyeti) işlem performansına etkileri incelenmiştir.İkinci aşamada, çubuk şeklinde hacimli parçaları deforme eden Eş Kanallı Açısal Presleme (ECAP) sistemi tasarımlanıp imal edilmiştir. ECAP sistemi kullanılarak deforme edilen çeşitli alüminyum alaşımlarının mekanik özelliklerindeki ve mikroyapısındaki değişimler incelenmiştir.Son aşamada, elde edilen tecrübeler ışığında, yassı mamulleri kesintisiz deforme edebilen Değişken Kanallı Açısal Presleme (DCAP) sistemi tasarımlanıp imal edilmiştir. Farklı sayıda pasodan geçirilen 6061 Al-alaşımı numunelere sertlik ve çekme deneyleri uygulanarak, DCAP paso sayısına bağlı olarak yüksek mukavemetli, ince taneli alüminyum levha üretilebilirliği incelenmiştir. Industrial products of high-strength Al-alloys are currently manufactured by thermo-mechanical processes, which are only applicable in the integrated plants requiring high investment cost. Moreover, reduction of the average grain size not less than 10 ?m and re-adjustment of process parameters for each alloy type is evaluated as disadvantage. Therefore, recently there have been many research studies for development of alternative manufacturing techniques for aluminum alloys. Research activities have shown that it is possible to improve the strength of Al-alloys remarkably by severe plastic deformation which results in ultra-fine grain size.This study aims to design and manufacture the laboratory scale set-ups for severe plastic deformation of aluminum alloys, and to characterize the severely deformed samples. The stages of the study are summarized below: First, for optimization of die design and investigation of parameters affecting the deformation finite element modeling simulations were performed. The effects of process parameters (die geometry, friction coefficient) and material properties (strain hardening, strain-rate sensitivity) were investigated.Next, Equal Channel Angular Pressing (ECAP) system that can severely deform the rod shaped samples were designed and manufactured. The variations in the microstructure and mechanical properties of 2024 Al-alloy rods deformed by ECAP were investigated.Finally, based on the experience gained, a Dissimilar Channel Angular Pressing (DCAP) system for severe plastic deformation of flat products was designed and manufactured; then, 6061 Al-alloy strips were deformed. By performing hardness and tension tests on the strips that were deformed by various passes, the capability of the DCAP set-up for production of ultra-fine grain sized high-strength aluminum flat samples were investigated. 148

Bu çalışmada, hibrit plazma ark kaynağı incelenmiştir. Bu kaynak yöntemi, anahtar deliği tekniği sayesinde derin nüfuziyet ve dolgu teli elektrodu sayesinde ise yüksek kaplama hızına sahiptir. Anahtar deliği ve eritme tekniği ile birleştirilen 2205 sınıfı dubleks paslanmaz (DP) çelik plakalar araştırılmıştır. Kaynaklamış 8mm kalınlığındaki plakalardan elde edilen örnekler optik ve taramalı elektron mikroskobu ile incelenmiştir. Metalografik incelemeler, kaynak işlemi sonrası oluşan ikincil fazların karakterizasyonu için kullanılan X-Işını kırınımı ve enerji dağılımlı X-Işını spektroskopisi yöntemleri ile desteklenmiştir. Kaynak bölgelerinin darbe tokluğu özellikleri, sertlik profilleri ve yorulma çatlak ilerleme davranışları mekanik karakterizasyonu amacıyla karşılaştırılmıştır. Kırılma karakteristikleri taramalı elektron mikroskobu yardımıyla belirlenmiştir.Tek paso olarak gerçekleştirilen HPA kaynağında, çok pasolu yöntemlerde kaçınılmaz olan ve asikular formda oluşan ikincil östenit oluşumu gözlenmemiştir. Bunun yanı sıra ?-ferrit oranı mekanik özelliklerin bozulması nedeniyle kritik olarak tanımlanan %70'in altında kalmıştır. HPA kaynağı yönteminde elde edilen yüksek kaynak hızı ve güç yoğunluğu, kaynak bölgesinin ve ısıdan etkilenmiş bölgenin dar kalmasına ve bununla beraber düşük sertlik ve yüksek tokluk değerlerine ulaşılmasını sağlamıştır. Plazma arkının oluşturduğu anahtar deliği ve gaz metal arkının oluşturduğu metal transfer etkilerinin birleşimi kaynakta yüksek penetrasyona ulaşılmasına olanak vermiştir. Buna ek olarak, yorulma çatlak ilerlemesi testlerinden elde edilen sonuçlar, HPA kaynaklı örneklerde elde edilen çatlak ilerleme hızlarının, GMA kaynaklı örneklerle karşılaştırılabilir olduğunu göstermiştir. In the present study, the applicability of the hybrid plasma arc welding, in which a keyhole is responsible of deep penetration and a filler wire electrode supplies a high deposition rate, was examined. The microstructural evolutions in grade 2205 duplex stainless steel plates joined by keyhole and melt-in techniques were investigated. The specimens obtained from welded plates having thickness of 8 mm were examined via optical and scanning electron microscopy. Metallographic investigations were supported by X-ray diffraction and energy dispersed spectra analyses by characterizing the phases formed after welding. Impact toughness properties, hardness profiles, and crack propagation behavior of welding zones were quantitatively and qualitatively compared for mechanical characterization. Fracture characteristics were determined via scanning electron microscopy examinations.It was observed that single-pass HPA weldment seemed to be free of secondary austenite precipitation in acicular form, which is inevitable in multi-pass conventional arc welding methods. Besides ?-ferrite was successfully kept under 70%, which is presented as a limit to not to deteriorate the mechanical properties of DSS. High linear welding speed and high power density supplied by HPAW presented narrower weld metal and heat affected zone with not only lower hardness but also higher impact toughness energies. Synergic effect of the keyhole formed by a plasma arc and the metal transfer supplied by gas metal arc gave reasonable dilution in the weld metal. Furthermore, fatigue crack growth tests revealed that crack propagation rates in HPAW joints were comparable to GMAW joints. 72

Bu tezin amacı çoklu paso yapılarak kaynaklanmış çeliklerde, kalıntı gerilmelerin Manyetik Barkhausen Noise (MBN) tekniği ile tahribatsız olarak ölçülmesidir. Geliştirilen yöntem kullanılarak kaynaklanmış plakalarda ısıdan etkilenen bölgede (HAZ) ve ana metalde sürekli şekilde MBN ölçümleri yapılmıştır. Deneysel kısımda çelik plakalar çoklu paso yapılarak kaynaklanmıştır. Sonra, kaynaklanmış durumda kalıntı gerilimi ölçümü ve açısal sapma miktarı ölçümleri uygulanmıştır. Mikroyapı incelemesi ve sertlik ölçümleri yapılmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlar karşılaştırılarak, MBN yönteminin kaynaklı parçalarda kalıntı gerilmelerin kaynak paso sayısına bağlı olarak değişimin izlenmesi için uygunluğu ve verimliliği irdelenmiştir. The purpose of this thesis is non-destructive determination of residual stress state in the multi-pass welded steel plates by Magnetic Barkhausen Noise (MBN) technique. To control the effectiveness of the developed procedure, continuous MBN measurements on the heat affected zone and parent metal of the welded plates were performed. In the experimental part, various steel plates were welded with different number of weld passes. Various series of samples were prepared for residual stress and for angular deflection measurements. Microstructural investigation and hardness measurements were also conducted. The results were discussed to evaluate the effectiveness of MBN measurements to monitor the changes in the residual stress state in the welded components as a function of weld pass number. 82

Şiddetli plastik deformasyon yöntemleri, tane boyutunu aşırı küçültmeleri ve mekanik özellikleri iyileştirmeleri sebebiyle bircok endüstriyel şekillendirme uygulaması alanında ilgi uyandırmaktadır. Bu yöntemlerin arasında en çok bilinen ve kullanılanı, malzemenin kesit alanini degiştirrmeden yüksek plastik gerinim oluşumuna olanak veren ?Eş Kanallı Açısal Ekstrüzyon (EKAE)? dur. Bu çalışma iki ana bölümden oluşmaktadir. İlk bölüm, ticari sonlu elemanlar yazılımı Msc Marc ile Aluminyum alaşımlarının plastik deformasyonunun modellenmesi ve incelenmesini içermektedir. Bu bağlamda 90, 120 ve 150 derecelik kalıp açıları, farklı sürtünme katsayıları ve farklı köşe yuvarlakliklarinin etkilerinin incelendiği bircok nümerik deney yapılmıtır. Ayrıca, malzemenin gerinim sertleşmesi özelliklerinin ve Hollomon Denklemi'nde yer alan gerinim sertleşmesi katsayısı (K) ve üssü (n) değerlerinin, köşe boşluğu oluşumundaki etkileri kapsamlı olarak calışılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular yuksek sınır analizi ve doğrulanmıştır. Nümerik sonuçlar işlem performansının kalıp köşe yuvarlaklığının modifiye edilmesiyle artırılabilecegini göstermsitir. Öte yandan, ikinci bölüm, bir diğer hafif alaşim olan Magnezyum ZK60'ın doku oluşumu, çekme-basma asimetrisi ve akma gerilmesi anizotropilerinin incelemektedir. Çalışmada alaşımın mikroyapısal ve dokusal gelişimlerinin belirlenmesi hedefiyle EKAE yöntemiyle değişik rota ve sıcaklıklarda deforme edilmiştir. Deforme edilmiş malzemelere çeşitli mekanik testler uygulanmış; akma dayancı anizotropileri ve çekme-basma asimetrileri ölçülmüştür. Bu mekanik davranışlara sebep olan deformasyon mekanizmaları incelenmiştir. Elde edilen bulgularla değişik işlem şartları ve sıcaklıklarının, doku oluşumu ve mekanik davranışlara etkileri belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Çalışma sonucunda malzemenin başlangıçtaki dokusunun işlem sonrasındaki dokuyu büyük ölçüde etkilediği, ve bu durumun mikroyapısal gelişim ve mekanik özellikler üzerinde önemli etkileri olduğu gözlenmiştir. Bu bağlamda, farklı işlem görmüş malzemelerde çekme-basma asimetrisi ve akma dayancı anizotropisindeki değişikliklerin doku gelişimiyle doğrudan ilgili olduğu anlasılmış ve bu parametrelerin işlem rotası ve sıcaklığının kontrollü olarak değiştirilmesiyle kontrol edilebileceği belirtilmiştir. Severe plastic deformation methods are of great interest in industrial forming applications, as they give rise to significant refinement in microstructures and improvements in mechanical and physical properties. In the ?Equal Channel Angular Extrusion (ECAE)?, which is the most common method for production of ultrafine grained bulk samples, very high plastic strains are introduced into the bulk material without any change in cross section. This study is composed of two main parts. Part I focuses on the plastic deformation behavior of Al alloys by modeling ECAE with Msc. Marc finite element software. A series of numerical experiments were carried out for the die angles of 90°, 120°, and 150°, different friction conditions, and different round corners. Besides, the effects of strain hardening characteristics of the material, strain hardening coefficient (K) and exponent (n) of Hollomon?s law, on corner gap formation and strain homogeneity in equal channel angular pressing process were investigated quantitatively. The results were compared and verified with those of the upper bound analysis. The numerical results showed that the process performance can be improved by modifying the die corner curvature accordingly, without running time consuming simulations. On the other hand, the aim of Part 3 is to investigate the texture evolution, mechanical response and the corresponding mechanisms, in terms of the flow stress anisotropy and tension-compression asymmetry in the ZK60 Mg alloy. The alloy was processed using ECAE, with different processing routes and temperatures, in order to produce samples with a wider variety of microstructures and crystallographic textures. Several mechanical tests and microstructure examinations were carried out; and the flow stress anisotropy and tension-compression asymmetry of the as-received and processed samples were measured. It was found that the initial texture has a strong effect on the resulting textures; and the textures, combined with the microstructure effect, define the mechanical properties of processed samples. Thus, the tension-compression asymmetry and the flow stress anisotropy variations in the processed samples are attributed to the generated textures and it is possible to control these properties by controlling the processing route and temperature. 211

The aim of this thesis is to investigate the effects of bulging and deep drawing processes on St4 cold rolled steel by simulation and experimental characterization. In the simulations, commercial software programs MSC Marc and Simufact.forming were used. The experimental studies cover metallographic investigations, hardness measurements, and residual stress measurements. Residual stress measurements were carried out by different non- destructive characterization methods; X-ray diffraction and Magnetic Barkhausen Noise. Çarpılma (istenmeyen boyut ve şekil değişimleri) çeliklerin sertleştirilmesi sırasında meydana gelen en önemli problemlerden biridir. Sertleştirme esnasında meydana gelen klasik plastisite ve dönüşüm plastisitesi kaçınılmaz anizotropik boyut değişimlerine neden olmaktadır. Ayrıca, üretimin farklı aşamalarında ?çarpılma potansiyeli taşıyıcıları? parçada yer etmektedir.Bu çalışmada, sertleştirme işlemi süresince meydana gelen çarpılmalar, analitik, numerik ve deneysel olarak incelenmiştir. Numerik ve analitik kısımda, sertleştirme benzetimlerinin hassasiyet analizi yapılmış, parça çarpılmaları boyut analizi ile incelenmiştir. Analizler deneysel olarak desteklenmiş benzetimler yardımıyla yapılmıştır. Hassasiyet analizindeki amaç, benzetim girdilerindeki belirsizliklerin, benzetim sonuçlarına olan etkisini ortaya koymaktır. Boyut analizindeki amaç ise önceki çalışmalarda belirlenmiş boyutsuz sayıların sertleştirme işleminden kaynaklanan boyut değişimlerine olan etkisini incelemektir. Çalışma boyunca, SAE52100 çelik şaftların gazla hızlı soğutulması modellenmiştir. Benzetimlerde ticari sonlu eleman programı SYSWELD® kullanılmıştır. Teorik kısımdaki sonuçlar, hacim değişimini etkileyen malzeme özelliklerinin ve boyutsuz sayırın yüksek önem teşkil ettiğini göstermiştir. Ayrıca, östenit fazının plastisitesini etkileyen parametrelerin, boyut değişimlerinin izotropisini önemli ölçüde etkiledikleri gözlemlenmiştir. Önemsiz boyutsuz sayılar çıkarıldığında, geriye sistemi tanımlayan 14 boyutsuz sayı kalmaktadır.Çalışmanın deneysel kısmında ise, mikroyapının SAE52100 uzun silindirlerin çarpılma davranışına olan etkisi incelenmiştir. Burada, gazla hızlı soğutma deneylerine ek olarak, tuz banyosu ve yüksek hızlı sertleştirme deneyleri yapılmıştır. Sonuçlar, SAE52100 uzun silindirlerinin çarpılma davranışının, ilk kütükten işlendikleri pozisyona bağlı olduğunu göstermiştir. Distortion (undesired dimension and shape changes) is one of the most important problems of through hardened steel components. During quenching, anisotropic dimensional changes are inevitable due to classical plasticity and transformation induced plasticity. Moreover; various distortion potential carriers are brought into material during production chain.This study consists of analytical, numerical and experimental investigations of quench distortion. In numerical and analytical part, sensitivity analysis of the quenching model, and dimensional analysis of distortion were conducted by utilizing experimentally verified simulations. In sensitivity analysis, effect of uncertainties in input data on simulation results were determined, whereas; in dimensional analysis, the influence of various dimensionless numbers that govern quench distortion were investigated. Throughout the study, gas-nozzle-field quenching of SAE52100 long shafts were simulated. Simulations were performed by commercial finite element analysis software, SYSWELD®. Conceptual results indicate that the most important material properties and dimensionless numbers are the ones that govern volume change. Moreover, those that determine plasticity of austenite significantly affect isotropy of the dimensional changes. When unimportant dimensionless numbers are eliminated, there remain 14 dimensionless combinations that govern the problem.In experimental part of the study; effect of microstructure on distortion behavior of SAE52100 long cylinders with various diameters was investigated. In addition to gas-nozzle-field quenching, salt bath and high speed quenching experiments were performed. In regards to experimental findings, there is a correlation between distortions of long cylinders and machining position with respect to billet. 186

Bu çalışmada, rulman bileziklerinin yuvarlanma yollarında bilyalı sertleştirme yoluyla oluşturulmuş kalıntı gerilmeler ve yorulma ömrüne etkisi deneysel olarak incelenmiştir. Kalıntı basma gerilmelerinin iyileştirilmesi amacıyla farklı parametrelerle bilyalı sertleştirme operasyonu uygulanmıştır. Kalıntı gerilmelerin ölçümü X-ışınları kırınımı tekniği ile yapılmıştır. Bilyalı rulman üretiminde kalıntı gerilmelerin optimize edilmesi, bu çalışmanın ana hedefidir. En uygun kalıntı gerilme durumunu oluşturan parametrelerin belirlenmesi için; bilyalı sertleştirme ve honlama proses parametreleri üzerinde çalışılmıştır. Bilyalı rulman yorulma ömrü, ömür testleri ile belirlenmiştir ve çalışmanın sonuçlarını göstermesi amacıyla çizelgelenmiştir. Elde edilen verilerin, bilyalı rulman bileziklerindeki kalıntı gerilme dağılımı ve kullanım ömrü optimizasyonu konularında fayda sağlayacağına inanılmaktadır. In this study, residual stresses introduced via application of shot peening on the raceways of bearing rings and their effect on the fatigue life was investigated experimentally. For improvement of residual compressive stress state, shot peening operation with different parameters was utilized. Residual stress measurements were conducted via X-ray diffraction technique. Optimization of residual stress state during the production of ball bearings is the main target of this study. Process parameters for shot peening and super-finishing were studied for determination of the parameters that induce the most favorable residual stress state. The fatigue life of ball bearings were determined by life cycle tests and tabulated to show the results of the study. The results of the thesis are believed to help for optimization of residual stress distribution and improvement of service life of ball bearings. 150

Bilyeli dövme işlemi, metallerin yorulma ve gerilmeli korozyona karşı mukavemetlerini artırmak için yüzeyde basma nitelikli kalıntı gerilme oluşturmak amacıyla uygulanmaktadır. Bu çalışma, bilyeli dövme sonrasında çelik parçaların yüzeyindeki kalıntı gerilmelerin tahribatsız mikro-manyetik bir yöntem olan manyetik Barkhausen gürültüsü (MBN) tekniği ile ölçülmesi hakkındadır. Ölçümler için, kontrollü bir bilyeli dövme uygulaması kullanılarak, farklı dövme şiddeti, bilye püskürtme açısı ve yüzey kapsama değerleri kullanılarak elde edilen numuneler hazırlanmıştır. Yapılan ölçümler, yüzey kalıntı gerilmeleri ve MBN sinyalleri arasında belirgin bir ilişki olduğunu göstermiştir. MBN yöntemi ile belirlenen kalıntı gerilim değerleri X-Ray ölçüm yöntemi ile doğrulanmıştır. Shot peening is a cold-working process by which residual compressive stresses are being induced in the surface region to increase the fatigue strength and the resistance to stress-corrosion cracking. This study covers non-destructive measurement of surface residual stresses in the shot-peened steel components by a micro-magnetic technique, named as Magnetic Barkhausen Noise (MBN) method. For this purpose, various low alloy steel specimens were prepared by a controlled shot peening process with different intensity, impact angle and coverage values. The measurements showed that a clear relationship exists between residual stresses and the MBN signals. Residual stress values determined by MBN technique were also verified by X-ray diffraction measurements. 97

İşlemde, disk şeklindeki numune iki kalıp arasında bastırılıp, yüzeydeki sürtünme yükleri sayesinde bir kalıbın döndürülmesiyle deforme edilir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, aşırı deforme edilmiş çelik disklerdeki deformasyon dağılımını tahribatsız olarak karakterize etmektir. Yalın karbon çeliği disklere, serbest ve sınırlandırılmış YBB işlemleri 6 çevirime kadar uygulanarak iki set halinde numuneler elde edilmiştir. Manyetik Barkhausen Gürültü (MBG) yöntemi numuneleri tahribatsız olarak değerlendirmek için ticari bir cihaz yardımıyla uygulanmıştır. MBG ölçümlerinin sonuçları, x-ışını kırınımı, metalografik inceleme ve sertlik ölçümleri gibi klasik yöntemlerin sonuçlarıyla doğrulanmıştır. YBB'nin ilk aşamaları, klasik plastik deformasyon işlemlerinin MBG'ye olan etkilerini göstermiştir; ancak artan gerinmeyle tane boyutu küçülmesi baskın hale gelmiş ve MBG sinyallerinin artmasına yol açmıştır. High Pressure Torsion (HPT) is one of the most widely used severe plastic deformation methods which enable to obtain a crack free ultra-fine grained bulk material with improved mechanical properties like increased strength and toughness. In the process, a disc shaped sample is pressed between two anvils and deformed via surface friction forces by rotating one of the anvils. The aim of this study is to nondestructively characterize the variations in the deformation uniformity of the severely deformed steel disks. Two sets of low carbon steel samples were obtained by applying the unconstrained and constrained HPT process up to 6 turns. Magnetic Barkhausen Noise (MBN) method was used in order to evaluate the samples in a nondestructive manner via a commercial device. The results of the MBN measurements were verified with those of conventional methods such as; x-ray diffraction (XRD), metallographic examination and hardness measurements. The initial stages of HPT revealed the effects of conventional plastic deformation on MBN; however with further straining, grain size refinement prevailed and caused increase in MBN signals. 84

Bu çalışmanın amacı kaynaklı plakalardaki kalıntı gerilimlerin Manyetik Barkhausen Gürültüsü tekniğiyle ölçülmesidir. Ölçüm sonuçlarının daha hassas, hızlı ve sürekli olmasını sağlamak amacıyla tek paso kaynaklı plaklardaki kalıntı gerilimlerin ölçülmesi için bir düzenek tasarlanmış ve kullanılmıştır. Ölçüm sonuçlarını kalıntı gerilim değerlerine çevirmek için kalibrasyon düzeneği hazırlanmış ve kalibrasyon işlemi için bir prosedür geliştirilmiştir. Düşük karbonlu çeliklerin kaynaklanmasından sonra ısıdan etkilenen bölgede (IEB) ve ana metalde Manyetik Barkhausen Gürültüsü metodu kullanılarak ölçümler gerçekleştirilmiş ve bulunan sonuçlar delik açma metodu ile elde edilen sonuçlar ile doğrulanmıştır. For obtaining accurate, fast and continuous residual stress measurements a set up for single pass welded plates was designed and used. In order to convert the MBN values to residual stress values a calibration set up was also designed and a procedure for obtaining calibration curves was developed. After welding of low-C steel plates, residual stresses on heat affected zone (HAZ) and parent metal were measured by MBN technique. The results were verified by the hole drilling method. Bu tez çalışmasının amacı aşırı-ince taneli yapı elde etmek için alüminyum alaşım plakalarının aşırı plastik deformasyonunu sağlayacak bir Değişik Kanallı Açısal Presleme Sistemi tasarlamak ve üretmektir. İlk olarak, bir DCAP sistemi Sonlu Eleman Analizi ile tasarlanmış ve çeşitli optimizasyon denemeleri sonrası üretilmiştir. Daha sonra, 6061-T0 alüminyum alaşım plakaları, sistemden çeşitli DCAP geçişleri ile aşırı şekilde deforme edilmiştir. Numuneler metalografi, X-ışını kırınımı, çekme ve sertlik testleri karakterize edilmiştir. 2 DCAP pasosu sonra akma dayancının yaklaşık % 100 iyileştiği gözlemlenmiştir ve 45 nm tane boyutu elde edilmiştir. The aim of this thesis work is to design and manufacture a Dissimilar Channel Angular Pressing (DCAP) system for severe plastic deformation of aluminum alloy sheets in order to obtain ultra-fine grained structure. First, a DCAP system was designed by Finite Element Analysis and constructed after various optimization trials. Next, 6061-T0 aluminum alloy plates were severely deformed by various DCAP passes through the system. The samples were characterized by metallography, X-ray diffraction, tension and hardness tests. It has been observed that the yield strength was improved about 100 % after 2 DCAP passes, and 45 nm sub-grain size was obtained. 69

Bu işlemlerin modellenmesi, malzeme özelliklerindeki sert değişimler, faz dönüşümleri, karmaşık bağdaştırmalar ve sınır koşulları gibi güçlükleri ele almayı gerektirir. Bu çalışmada metal ve alaşımların ısıl işlemler sırasında maruz kaldığı sıcaklık geçmişi, iç yapı ve gerilimlerin oluşumu ve gelişimini öngörebilen, sonlu elemanlar yöntemi esaslı bir matematiksel çerçeve geliştirilmiştir. Bu çerçeve, ticari bir sonlu elemanlar yazılımı olan MSC.Marc® 'a kullanıcı altrutinleri vasıtasıyla entegre edilmiştir. Modelin doğruluğu eksentrik delik açılmış çelik silindirlere su verilmesi işleminin benzetimi ile teyit edilmiştir. In the course of thermal treatments, materials are usually subjected to continuous heating and cooling cycles during which microstructural evolution and mechanical interactions occur simultaneously at different length and time scales. Modeling of these processes necessitates dealing with inherent complexities such as large material property variations, complex couplings and boundary conditions, coupled heat and mass transfer mechanisms and phase transformations. In this study, a mathematical framework based on finite element method (FEM) capable of predicting temperature history, evolution of phases and internal stresses during heat treatment of metals and alloys was developed. The model was integrated into the commercial FEA software MSC.Marc® by user subroutines. The accuracy of the model was verified by simulating the quenching of eccentrically drilled steel cylinders. Simulation results were justified via SEM observations and XRD residual stress measurements. According to the results, the model can effectively predict the trends in the distribution of microstructure and residual stresses with a remarkable accuracy. 216

Severe plastic deformation (SPD) results in ultra-fine grain sizes in metals and alloys. Equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) is one of the special SPD methods aiming to introduce high plastic strains into the bulk materials without changing their cross section. ECAP results in improvement in hardness and strength while still satisfying acceptable ductility level. The combined effects of ECAP and subsequent heat treatments, i.e. post-aging and post-annealing, on the microstructure and hardness of the 2024 aluminum alloy were investigated. An ECAP die with 120? channel angle was constructed. Subgrain formation, increase in dislocation density and dislocation tangling were observed after ECAP, and subgrain growth was detected after post annealing. The specimens revealed higher hardness values after ECAP at room temperature, and further increase in hardness was observed following post-aging at 80?C, 100?C and 190?C. Effect of the aging temperature on the deformed specimens was investigated, and the aging behaviors of the severely deformed and undeformed samples at 190?C were compared. EKAP işlemini takiben uygulanan 80?C, 100?C, 190?C sıcaklıklarda yaşlandırma işlemiyle sertlikte ilave artış sağlanmıştır.
