7. Development culture and TQM in Turkish healthcare: importance of employee empowerment and top management leadership.

Abstract

Total quality management (TQM) is directed at quality consciousness throughout all organisational processes. A successful TQM practice requires a culture that can adapt to changes and promote innovation. Development culture focuses especially on improvement, flexibility and external environment, concerning with growth, innovation and adaptation. From this perspective, the present study aims to examine the link between development culture and TQM in Turkish healthcare organisations and to explore the mediating roles of top management leadership and employee empowerment. Data were collected by using survey method and analysed by using structural equation modelling while being controlled for common method bias. The findings revealed that while development culture has a positive influence TQM, it is the top management leadership which mediates this relationship, not the employee empowerment. The results are discussed considering the difference in these mediating effects and organisational implications of the findings are provided. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Üniversiteler nitelikli işgücü yetiştiren, bilimsel araştırmalar yürüten ve toplum hizmeti sunan kurumlar olarak bir ülkenin ekonomik, sosyal ve kültürel kalkınmasında rol oynayan önemli unsurlardır. Üniversiteler toplumların sosyal dönüşümünde kilit rol oynamakta, kendileri de bu dönüşüm sırasında değişime uğramaktadır. Küreselleşmeyle beraber, tüm dünyada üniversitelerin yapısı ve rollerinde de değişim yaşanmıştır. Günümüz bilgi toplumunda, bilgiyi öğrenebilen, geliştirebilen ve kullanabilen bireyler yetiştirilmesi ülkelerin kalkınması için kritik önem taşımaktadır. Bu hususta en önemli görev, mesleki eğitimlerin verildiği üniversitelere düşmektedir. Bu bağlamda, mevcut devlet ve özel üniversitelerin değerlendirilmesinde çeşitli akademik kriterler kullanılmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, ülkemizde bulunan 72 vakıf üniversitesinin akademik kriterler çerçevesinde incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Söz konusu inceleme için kümeleme analizi kullanılmıştır., Universities have an important role in the economic, social and cultural development of a country since they train qualified workforce, conduct scientific researches and provides community service. Universities are critical actors in the social transformation of societies and they are also affected by this transformation. With globalization, the structure and roles of universities have changed worldwide. In today's knowledge society, education of individuals who can acquire, enhance and use information is of critical significance for the development of the countries. The most important duty in this regard falls to the universities, which provides vocational education. In this context, several academic criteria are used to evaluate the current state and private universities. The present study aims to examine 72 foundation universities in Turkey based on academic criteria.

Abstract

Balanced scorecard is an important tool used in strategic decisions. In the literature, many field balanced scorecard devices from the education sector to the manufacturing sector appear to be used to make strategic decisions. In this research, the balanced scorecard was used to create merger and acquisition profits in businesses. The purpose of this study, Balanced Score Card (BSC), is to determine the strategic objectives set forth in the merger and acquisition decisions. This study of 124 people with an open-ended questionnaire that top-level management positions in educational institutions was carried out as directed by a pilot study. Responses to the questionnaire and open-ended questions that will be used in an educational environment BSC were formed. BSC tool, financial dimensions of the educational institution, the size of the customer putting forward decision maker, the internal processes of the institution, offers data on learning and development dimensions. The data obtained from this study were analyzed with SPSS. According to the findings, there is a significant correlation between the sub dimensions of BSC and strategic decision regarding mergers and acquisitions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Work-family conflict is a serious issue for both employees and organizations. It leads to multiple consequences at both levels. Work-family conflict causes employees to develop negative attitudes toward work due to an unbalanced life between their job and family. Job satisfaction is one of these attitudes and workfamily conflict leads to unsatisfied individuals. On the organizational side, such conflict may result in lower organizational performance and success because of unsatisfied employees. In this context, manager support can serve as a beneficial resource for alleviating the influence of work-family conflict on employees. Therefore, the present study aimed to examine the impact of work-family conflict on employee satisfaction considering the mediating role of manager support. The study data was collected using questionnaires. The results of the study demonstrated that work-family conflict has an effect on job satisfaction and such effect was reduced by manager support.
