1. Field Applications of Fluorinated Nematicides for Meloidogyne enterolobii Management on Tomato

Abstract

Mexico is the 8th largest producer of tomatoes. Meloidogyne enterolobii is reported in Sinaloa, affecting tomato cultivars with genetic resistance to Meloidogyne spp. We aimed to evaluate field applications of fluopyram, fluensulfone, and fluazaindolizine treatments for managing M. enterolobii on tomatoes. Experiments were set on raised beds in a shade house. Nematicides were applied via drip irrigation. Under fluopyram treatment, M. enterolobii did not reduce the number of extra-large-size fruits. The number of large-size fruits with fluopyram and fluazaindolizine plus fluopyram treatments was also unaffected by M. enterolobii. Yield from the treatments fluopyram, fluazaindolizine plus fluopyram, and fluensulfone plus fluopyram was similar to the control treatment without M. enterolobii. Finally, fluazaindolizine plus fluopyram, fluopyram, and fluensulfone plus fluopyram treatments showed the highest reduction of root galling. We conclude that the fluopyram was more effective as an individual treatment. Pre-plant applications of fluensulfone and fluazaindolizine reduced the damage to the plant and the loss of yield; however, the complementary application of fluorinated nematicides improved the management of M. enterolobii in the tomato crop.

Abstract

The high-luminosity upgrade of the LHC (HL-LHC) brings unprecedented requirements for precision bunch-by-bunch luminosity measurement and beam-induced background monitoring in real time. A key component of the CMS Beam Radiation Instrumentation and Luminosity detector system is a stand-alone luminometer, the Fast Beam Condition Monitor (FBCM), which is able to operate independently at all times with a triggerless asynchronous readout. FBCM utilizes a dedicated front-end ASIC to amplify the signals from CO$_2$-cooled silicon-pad sensors with 1 ns timing resolution. Front-end (FE) electronics are subject to high-radiation conditions, thus all components are radiation hardened: sensors, ASICs, transceivers, etc. The FBCM ASIC contains 6 channels, each outputting a high-speed binary signal carrying the time-of-arrival and time-over-threshold information. This signal is sent via a gigabit optical link to the back-end electronics for analysis. A dedicated test system is designed for the FBCM FE electronics with a modular setup for all testing needs of the project from initial ASIC validation test to system-level testing with the full read-out chain. Abstract

In this radiation tolerance study, Low Gain Avalanche Detectors (LGADs) with a carbon-enriched broad and shallow multiplication layer were examined in comparison to identical non-carbonated LGADs. Manufactured at IMB-CNM, the sensors underwent neutron irradiation at the TRIGA reactor in Ljubljana, reaching a fluence of $1.5e^{15} {n_{eq}} cm^{-2}$. The results revealed a smaller deactivation of boron and improved resistance to radiation in carbonated LGADs. The study demonstrated the potential benefits of carbon enrichment in mitigating radiation damage effects, particularly the acceptor removal mechanism, reducing the acceptor removal constant by more than a factor of two. Additionally, time resolution and collected charge degradation due to irradiation were observed, with carbonated samples exhibiting better radiation tolerance. A noise analysis focused on baseline noise and spurious pulses showed the presence of thermal-generated dark counts attributed to a too narrow distance between the gain layer end and the p-stop implant at the periphery of the pad for the characterized LGAD design; however, without significant impact of operation performance.

Abstract

Abstract: Zika is an emerging disease in Venezuela and in the state of Zulia, it generally evolves in a benign manner and can produce complications such as Guillain-Barré syndrome and microcephaly in newborns. Itis proposed to describe the clinical and epidemiological aspects of the Zika outbreak and the cases of microcephaly. The research is descriptive, cross-sectional, conducted from May 2016 to March 2017. The population consisted of 1,155 suspected cases, with a sample of 228 patients, resulting in 108 positive PCR in real time. The largest number of cases occurred at the age of 17 to 33 years (59.3%), with a predominance of females (81.5%), in the municipalities of Maracaibo and San Francisco (75%). In relation to the symptomatology, the frequent are rash (84.3%), headache and fever (76.9%), while arthralgia (65.7%) and myalgia (47.2%) are less common. During the outbreak, there were two deaths of the male sex, representing 1.9%; 146 cases with Guillain-Barré syndrome and 7 cases with microcephaly, corresponding to the male sex (85%), with a newborn gestational age of 37.4 weeks and 85% survival. The main recommendation should be directed to the control of the transmitting vector of the disease and to make the diagnosis of the suspicious cases for their confirmation. Resumen: El Zika es una enfermedad emergente en Venezuela y en el estado Zulia, evoluciona generalmente de manera benigna y puede producir complicaciones como síndrome Guillain Barré y microcefalia en recién nacidos. Se plantea describir los aspectos clínicos, epidemiológicos del brote de Zika y los casos de microcefalia. La investigación es descriptiva, transversal, realizada de mayo 2016 a marzo 2017. La población fue de 1.155 casos sospechosos, la muestra 228 pacientes, resultando 108 positivos por PCR en tiempo real. El mayor número de casos se presentó en la edad de 17 a 33 años (59,3%), predomina el sexo femenino (81,5%), en los municipios Maracaibo y San Francisco (75%). En relación a la sintomatología, la frecuencia fue erupción (84,3%), cefalea y fiebre (76,9%), menos común la artralgia (65,7%) y mialgias (47,2%). Durante el brote, se presentaron dos muertes del sexo masculino, representando el 1,9%; 146 casos con el síndrome de Guillain Barré y 7 casos con microcefalia correspondiente al sexo masculino (85%), con una edad gestacional del recién nacido de 37,4 semanas y sobrevida de 85%. La principal recomendación, debe estar orientada al control del vector transmisor de la enfermedad y hacer el diagnóstico de los casos sospechosos para su confirmación.

Abstract

The high-luminosity upgrade of the LHC brings unprecedented requirements for real-time and precision bunch-by-bunch online luminosity measurement and beam-induced background monitoring. A key component of the CMS Beam Radiation, Instrumentation and Luminosity system is a stand-alone luminometer, the Fast Beam Condition Monitor (FBCM), which is fully independent from the CMS central trigger and data acquisition services and able to operate at all times with a triggerless readout. FBCM utilizes a dedicated front-end application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) to amplify the signals from CO$_2$-cooled silicon-pad sensors with a timing resolution of a few nanoseconds, which enables the measurement of the beam-induced background. FBCM uses a modular design with two half-disks of twelve modules at each end of CMS, with four service modules placed close to the outer edge to reduce radiation-induced aging. The electronics system design adapts several components from the CMS Tracker for power, control and read-out functionalities. The dedicated FBCM23 ASIC contains six channels and adjustable shaping time to optimize the noise with regards to sensor leakage current. Each ASIC channel outputs a single binary high-speed asynchronous signal carrying time-of-arrival and time-over-threshold information. The chip output signal is digitized, encoded and sent via a radiation-hard gigabit transceiver and an optical link to the back-end electronics for analysis. Abstract

ITER envisages the use of two heating neutral beam injectors plus an optional one as part of the auxiliary heating and current drive system. The 16.5 MW expected neutral beam power per injector is several notches higher than worldwide existing facilities. A Neutral Beam Test Facility (NBTF) was established at Consorzio RFX, exploiting the synergy of two test beds, SPIDER and MITICA. SPIDER is dedicated to developing and characterizing large efficient negative ion sources at relevant parameters in ITER-like conditions: source and accelerator located in the same vacuum where the beam propagates, immunity to electromagnetic interferences of multiple radio-frequency (RF) antennas, avoidance of RF-induced discharges on the outside of the source. Three years of experiments on SPIDER have addressed to the necessary design modifications to enable full performances. The source is presently under a long shut-down phase to incorporate learnings from the experimental campaign. Parallelly, developments on MITICA, the full-scale prototype of the ITER NBI featuring a 1 MV accelerator and ion neutralization, are underway including manufacturing of in-vessel components, while power supplies and auxiliary plants are already under final testing and commissioning. Integration, commissioning and tests of the 1MV power supplies are essential for this first-of-kind system, unparalleled both in research and industry field. The integrated test to confirm 1MV output by combining invertor systems, DC generators and transmission lines extracted errors/accidents in some components. To realize a concrete system for ITER, solutions for the repair and the improvement of the system were developed. Hence, NBTF is emerging as a necessary facility, due to the large gap with existing injectors, effectively dedicated to identify issues and find solutions to enable successful ITER NBI operations in a time bound fashion.

Abstract

Arthrospira platensis associated bacteria (APAB) identified through molecuar biology like Bacillus okhensis, Indibacter alkaliphilus and Halomonas sp., are also producing 3-indol acetic acid (IAA), these bacteria was used in early plant growth promotion tests over Sorghum bicolor, these bioassay was considered indirect evidence to suggest that APAB also may have stimulatory effects over A. platensis growth naturally. I. alkaliphilus and B. okhensis enhanced early germination of S. bicolor seads, with better results than that achieved by Azospirillum brasilense, bacterium used like reference as a common plant growth promoting rizobacteria. The three APAB enhanced significative differences (P≤0.05) over morphoagronomic parameters, I. alkaliphilus and B. okhensis exhibit better resoults in elongation stimulation and root and foliage dry weight. Above evidence suggest this bacteria like plant growth promoting and it recomended testing with A. platensis axenic cultures and its associated bactteri for understanding true interaction between them.

Abstract

La economía, a pesar de su característica inherente de «ciencia social», se ha desarrollado, en su teoría convencional, apoyada en la modelación matemática, en su pretensión de acercarse a las ciencias físicomatemáticas y ganar así capacidad predictiva, tal como lo postuló Walras desde el siglo XIX. N. Luhmann (19271998), con base en la Teoría General de Sistemas, reconoce en la economía un “sistema funcionalâ€, es decir, que opera en aspectos concretos y vitales para la reproducción de la sociedad como un todo. En este sentido la economía, como todos los sistemas complejos y autorreferentes; es autopoiética, con cierre operacional, opera con sentido y es autónoma. A pesar de su carácter circular, tal como lo planteó Samuelson, la sistémica de Luhmann reconoce la apertura para mantener la identidad autorreferencial en congruencia con el entorno social que aparece entonces como referente externo. Este aspecto de la relación entre sistema y entorno es el que hace posible la autorreferencia, y da lugar a la reflexión , mediante la cual el sistema reconoce la operatividad que lo identifica y establece sus límites como sistema, para diferenciarse del entorno. Desde esta perspectiva, Luhmann puede decir que la economía capitalista no se apoya en fenómenos extrasociales, sino en sí misma y construye referencias internas a situaciones externas, es decir, “que son y seguirán siendo dependientes de la lógica de la economía monetariaâ€. Basado en su teoría de la comunicación como foco operativo de los sistemas sociales, este autor reconoce al dinero como el medio de comunicación simbólicamente generalizado propio de la economía.

Abstract

El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar el efecto de las aplicaciones de urea, melaza y aminoácidos al follaje y al suelo en dosis convencionales y en todas sus posibles combinaciones, sobre el crecimiento y el rendimiento del cultivo de la cebolla de bulbo (Allium cepa L.) en la Sabana de Bogotá. Se pudo determinar que, bajo las condiciones particulares del ensayo, ningún producto o combinación de productos presentó un mejor comportamiento agronómico que el testigo absoluto para las variables evaluadas. En cambio, se detectaron efectos adversos al crecimiento de las plantas causados principalmente por las combinaciones: 1) urea con aminoácidos vía foliar en ausencia de aminoácidos al suelo, 2) urea con aminoácidos al suelo en ausencia de aminoácidos vía foliar, 3) melaza con aminoácidos al suelo, y 4) melaza en ausencia de aminoácidos vía foliar; lo que sugiere la existencia de relaciones complejas entre productos que condicionan la respuesta fisiológica de la planta a sus aplicaciones. Así mismo se observó que aquello que afectó de manera significativa el crecimiento de las plantas, se vio reflejado en los rendimientos.

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a novel deep reinforcement learning framework to maximize user fairness in terms of delay. To this end, we devise a new version of the modified largest weighted delay first (M-LWDF) algorithm, which is called $\beta$-M-LWDF, aiming to fulfill an appropriate balance between user fairness and average delay. This balance is defined as a feasible region on the cumulative distribution function (CDF) of the user delay that allows identifying unfair states, feasible-fair states, and over-fair states. Abstract

A study of initial-state gluon radiation (ISR) in hadron collisions is presented using Drell-Yan (DY) events produced in proton-antiproton collisions by the Tevatron collider at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. This paper adopts a novel approach which uses the mean value of the Z/$\gamma^*$ transverse momentum $$ in DY events as a powerful observable to characterize the effect of ISR. In a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.4 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the CDF Run II detector, $$ is measured as a function of the Z/$\gamma^*$ invariant mass. It is found that these two observables have a dependence, $ = -8 + 2.2 \ln m_{DY}^2$ [GeV/c], where $m_{DY}$ is the value of the Z/$\gamma^*$ mass measured in units of GeV/$c^2$. This linear dependence is observed for the first time in this analysis. It may be exploited to model the effect of ISR and constrain its impact in other processes., Comment: 14 pages, 14 figures

Abstract

At the Fermilab Tevatron proton-antiproton ($p\bar{p}$) collider, high-mass electron-neutrino ($e\nu$) pairs are produced predominantly in the process $p \bar{p} \rightarrow W(\rightarrow e\nu) + X$. The asymmetry of the electron and positron yield as a function of their pseudorapidity constrain the slope of the ratio of the $u$- to $d$-quark parton distributions versus the fraction of the proton momentum carried by the quarks. This paper reports on the measurement of the electron-charge asymmetry using the full data set recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab in 2001--2011 and corresponding to 9.1~fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity. The measurement significantly improves the precision of the Tevatron constraints on the parton-distribution functions of the proton. Abstract

Context: Atomic and molecular cloud formation is a dynamical process. However, kinematic signatures of these processes are still observationally poorly constrained. Methods: Targeting the cloud-scale environment of the prototypical infrared dark cloud G28.3, we employ spectral line imaging observations of the two atomic lines HI and [CI] as well as molecular lines observations in 13CO in the 1--0 and 3--2 transitions. The analysis comprises investigations of the kinematic properties of the different tracers, estimates of the mass flow rates, velocity structure functions, a Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) study as well as comparisons to simulations. Results: The central IRDC is embedded in a more diffuse envelope of cold neutral medium (CNM) traced by HI self-absorption (HISA) and molecular gas. The spectral line data as well as the HOG and structure function analysis indicate a possible kinematic decoupling of the HI from the other gas compounds. Spectral analysis and position-velocity diagrams reveal two velocity components that converge at the position of the IRDC. Estimated mass flow rates appear rather constant from the cloud edge toward the center. The velocity structure function analysis is consistent with gas flows being dominated by the formation of hierarchical structures. Conclusions: The observations and analysis are consistent with a picture where the IRDC G28 is formed at the center of two converging gas flows. While the approximately constant mass flow rates are consistent with a self-similar, gravitationally driven collapse of the cloud, external compression by, e.g., spiral arm shocks or supernovae explosions cannot be excluded yet. Abstract

Low Gain Avalanche Detector (LGAD) is the baseline sensing technology of the recently proposed Minimum Ionizing Particle (MIP) end-cap timing detectors (MTD) at the Atlas and CMS experiments. The current MTD sensor is designed as a multi-pad matrix detector delivering a poor position resolution, due to the relatively large pad area, around 1 $mm^2$; and a good timing resolution, around 20-30 ps. Besides, in his current technological incarnation, the timing resolution of the MTD LGAD sensors is severely degraded once the MIP particle hits the inter-pad region since the signal amplification is missing for this region. This limitation is named as the LGAD fill-factor problem. To overcome the fill factor problem and the poor position resolution of the MTD LGAD sensors, a p-in-p LGAD (iLGAD) was introduced. Contrary to the conventional LGAD, the iLGAD has a non-segmented deep p-well (the multiplication layer). Therefore, iLGADs should ideally present a constant gain value over all the sensitive region of the device without gain drops between the signal collecting electrodes; in other words, iLGADs should have a 100${\%}$ fill-factor by design. Abstract

Results obtained with 3D columnar pixel sensors bump-bonded to the RD53A prototype readout chip are reported. The interconnected modules have been tested in a hadron beam before and after irradiation to a fluence of about $1\times$$10^{16}$neq cm$^{-2}$ (1MeV equivalent neutrons). All presented results are part of the CMS R&D activities in view of the pixel detector upgrade for the High Luminosity phase of the LHC at CERN (HL-LHC). Abstract

We report on a search for a spin-zero non-standard-model particle in proton-antiproton collisions collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab at a center-of-mass-energy of 1.96 TeV. This particle, the $\phi$ boson, is expected to decay into a bottom-antibottom quark pair and to be produced in association with at least one bottom quark. The data sample consists of events with three jets identified as initiated by bottom quarks and corresponds to $5.4~\text{fb}^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity. In each event, the invariant mass of the two most energetic jets is studied by looking for deviations from the multijet background, which is modeled using data. No evidence is found for such particle. Exclusion upper limits ranging from 20 to 2 pb are set for the product of production cross sections times branching fraction for hypothetical $\phi$ boson with mass between 100 and 300 GeV/$c^2$. Abstract

This paper presents a study of the production of a single $W$ boson in association with one or more jets in proton-antiproton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV, using the entire data set collected in 2001-2011 by the Collider Detector at Fermilab at the Tevatron, which corresponds to an integrated luminosity of $9.0$ fb$^{-1}$. The $W$ boson is identified through its leptonic decays into electron and muon. The production cross sections are measured for each leptonic decay mode and combined after testing that the ratio of the $W(\rightarrow \mu\nu)+$jets cross section to the $W(\rightarrow e\nu)+$jets cross section agrees with the hypothesis of $e$-$\mu$ lepton universality. The combination of measured cross sections, differential in the inclusive jet multiplicity ($W+\geqslant N$ jets with $N=1,\,2,\,3, \textrm{or }4$) and in the transverse energy of the leading jet, are compared with theoretical predictions., Comment: submitted to Phys. Abstract

The Collider Detector at Fermilab collected a unique sample of jets originating from bottom-quark fragmentation ($b$-jets) by selecting online proton-antiproton ($p\bar{p}$) collisions with a vertex displaced from the $p\bar{p}$ interaction point, consistent with the decay of a bottom-quark hadron. This data set, collected at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=$1.96 TeV, and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $5.4~\rm{fb}^{-1}$, is used to measure the $Z$-boson production cross section times branching ratio into $b\bar{b}$. The number of $Z\rightarrow b\bar{b}$ events is determined by fitting the dijet-mass distribution while constraining the dominant $b$-jet background, originating from QCD multijet events, with data. The result, $\sigma(p\bar{p} \rightarrow Z) \times \mathcal{B}(Z \rightarrow b\bar{b})= 1.11\pm 0.08(\text{stat}) \pm 0.14(\text{syst})~\text{nb}$, is the most precise measurement of this process, and is consistent with the standard-model prediction. The data set is also used to search for Higgs-boson production. No significant signal is expected in our data and the first upper limit on the cross section for the inclusive $p\bar p \rightarrow H\rightarrow b\bar b$ process at $\sqrt{s}=$1.96 TeV is set, corresponding to 33 times the expected standard-model cross section, or $\sigma = 40.6$ pb, at the 95\% confidence level.

Abstract

A study of 3D pixel sensors of cell size 50 {\mu}m x 50 {\mu}m fabricated at IMB-CNM using double-sided n-on-p 3D technology is presented. Sensors were bump-bonded to the ROC4SENS readout chip. For the first time in such a small-pitch hybrid assembly, the sensor response to ionizing radiation in a test beam of 5.6 GeV electrons was studied. Abstract

Controlling the volume and geometrical ratio of microdroplets offers numerous advantages, particularly in fields like pharmaceutics, photonics, soft electronics, and robotics. For microdroplets generated via microfluidics, precise control of their length-to-width ( L w ) ratio enhances their overall performance and contributes to a comprehensive understanding of the results. Advanced experimental tools, including droplet generation systems, visualization techniques, digital processing algorithms, and analysis, are crucial, especially for in situ control of microdroplet size during generation. This study investigates the variation in microdroplet L w ratio and their generation frequencies using two novel approaches: the probability density function (derived both from the Gaussian assumption and directly from experimental data distribution) and the fast Fourier transform. The configuration utilizing one syringe pump (1mp) and syringes (made entirely of plastic) demonstrated the best monodispersity in microdroplet generation with volume differences ranged from 40 ± 2.2 nl to 65 ± 6.7 nl, corresponding to coefficient of variation values of 5.5 % and 11 % , respectively. The analysis of ∼7 million L w data points revealed different types of oscillation frequencies. Specifically, a frequency of around 1 mHz originated from the syringe pump, while frequencies between ∼0.5 and 3 Hz were attributed to the syringe materials and the interaction of a combination of syringe pumps. These results contribute to the phenomenological understanding and classification of droplet generation within the T-junction microfluidic system. Furthermore, they present an enhanced method for visualizing the geometrical variations of the generated microdroplets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

A search for the exotic meson $X(5568)$ decaying into the $B^0_s \pi^{\pm}$ final state is performed using data corresponding to $9.6 \textrm{fb}^{-1}$ from $p{\bar p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 1960$ GeV recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. No evidence for this state is found and an upper limit of 6.7\% at the 95\% confidence level is set on the fraction of $B^0_s$ produced through the $X(5568) \rightarrow B^0_s \, \pi^{\pm}$ process., Comment: 13 pages, 3 figures

Abstract

A measurement of the inclusive production cross section of isolated prompt photons in proton-antiproton collisions at center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}$=1.96TeV is presented. The results are obtained using the full Run II data sample collected with the Collider Detector at the Fermilab Tevatron, which corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 9.5fb$^{-1}$. The cross section is measured as a function of photon transverse energy, $E_T^{\gamma}$, in the range 30$ < E_T^{\gamma} <$500GeV and in the pseudorapidity region $|\eta^{\gamma}|<$1.0. The results are compared with predictions from parton-shower Monte Carlo models at leading order in quantum chromodynamics (QCD) and from next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations. Abstract

En una cerda preñada de matadero, se encontró un caso de anastomosis vascular entre dos fetos, macho y hembra de 72 días de gestación. Las anastomosis estaban presentes en la mayoría de los vasos placentarios. Ambos fetos estaban dentro de una sola membrana carioalantoidea, pero cada uno en su respectiva vesícula amniótica. Se hizo análisis de cromatina sexual del epitelio lingual por el método de fucsina fenicada y se comprobó la presencia de chimerismo en ambos fetos. En consecuencia es éste un caso de freemartinismo en porcinos./Abstract A pregnant sow, at the slaughter house, showed a vascular anastomoses, between two foetus, male and female, which had 72 days of gestation. Theses anastomoses were present in most of the placental vesseis. Both foetus were into a chorioallantoic membrane, but each one had its amniotic vesicule. A tongue epithelial smear was made and stained by the method of basic fuchsin in orden to look for sex chromatine. Chimerism in both foetus was found thus indicating a case of swine freemartin.

Abstract

We investigate the performance of a scheduling algorithm where the Mobile Terminals (MTs) may be turned off if they cause a level of interference greater than a given threshold. This approach, which is referred to as Interference Aware Muting (IAM), may be regarded as an interference-aware scheme that is aimed to reduce the level of interference. We analyze its performance with the aid of stochastic geometry and compare it against other interference-unaware and interference-aware schemes, where the level of interference is kept under control in the power control scheme itself rather than in the scheduling process. IAM is studied in terms of average transmit power, mean and variance of the interference, coverage probability, Spectral Efficiency (SE), and Binary Rate (BR), which accounts for the amount of resources allocated to the typical MT. Simplified expressions of SE and BR for adaptive modulation and coding schemes are proposed, which better characterize practical communication systems. Our system-level analysis unveils that IAM increases the BR and reduces the mean and variance of the interference. It is proved that an operating regime exists, where the performance of IAM is independent of the cell association criterion, which simplifies the joint design of uplink and downlink transmissions., Comment: 16 pages, 12 figures.
