Abstract

La creciente resistencia a agentes anticancerígenos ha volcado la ciencia médica y farmacológica hacia la búsqueda de nuevos compuestos con estas características, en este campo los productos naturales tienen gran relevancia por la actividad antitumoral mostrada por muchos de ellos. Los flavonoides son metabolitos secundarios que tienen reportada actividad anticancerígena y pueden convertirse en fuente importante para tratar el cáncer; por esto se pretende aislar flavonoides de Brownea ariza Brenth, determinar su estructura y evaluar su actividad antitumoral. Los análisis fitoquímicos de las hojas de Brownea ariza Brenth (Caesalpiniaceae) permiten aislar un flavonol identificado como (1), y un glicósido de flavonol, Quercitrina (2). Las estructuras se determinan por técnicas espectroscópicas: UV-Vis con reactivos de desplazamiento; RMN 1D y 2D (¹H, 13C, COSY, DEPT, HMBC; HMQC), y espectrometría de masas. Se evalúa la actividad citotóxica en línea celular VERO (ATCC:CCL-81) y la actividad anticancerígena en Mieloma Murino SP2/0-Ag14 (ATCC:CRL-1581), realizando conteo de células viables por exclusión con azul Tripan, obteniéndose una concentración citotóxica media para (1) de 300 μg/mL y no determinada para (2) en las concentraciones trabajadas; la actividad anticancerígena para (1) tiene una concentración efectiva media de 150 μg/mLy no determinada para (2) en las concentraciones trabajadas.The growing resistance to anticancer agents has turned medical science and pharmacology towards finding new compounds with these characteristics; in this area the natural products have great relevance, since many of these have anticancer activity. Flavonoids as secondary metabolites have reported anti-tumor activity and can become important source for cancer treatment; why search isolate flavonoids Brownea ariza Brenth to evaluate their anticancer activity. The Phytochemical analysis of leaves of Brownea ariza Brenth. (Caesalpiniaceae) let isolate a flavonol identified as (1), and a glycoside flavonol described as Quercitrin (2). The structures are determined by spectroscopic techniques: UV-Vis with shift reagents; 1D and 2D NMR (¹H, 13C, COSY, DEPT, HMBC; HMQC), and mass spectrometry. It evaluates the cytotoxic activity in VERO cell (ATCC: CCL-81) and anticancer activity in Myeloma Murino SP2/0-Ag14 (ATCC: CRL-1581), doing count the number of viable cells by graduation with tripan blue, obtaining a concentration cytotoxic average (1) of 300 μg/mL and not determined to (2) in concentrations of work; anticancer activity for (1) has a median effective concentration of 150 μg /mL and not given to (2) in concentrations of work.

5. New procedure to estimate plasma parameters through the q-Weibull distribution by using a Langmuir probe in a cold plasma

Abstract

We describe a procedure to obtain the plasma parameters from the I-V Langmuir curve by using the Druyvesteyn equation. We propose to include two new parameters, $q$ and $r$, to the usual plasma parameters: plasma potential ($V_p$), floating potential ($V_f$), electron density ($n$), and electron temperature ($T$). These new parameters can be particularly useful to represent non-Maxwellian distributions. The procedure is based on the fit of the I-V Langmuir curve with the $q$-Weibull distribution function, and is motivated by recent works which use the $q$-exponential distribution function derived from Tsallis statistics. We obtain the usual plasma parameters employing three techniques: the numerical differentiation using Savitzky Golay (SG) filters, the $q$-exponential distribution function, and the $q$-Weibull distribution function. We explain the limitations of the $q$-exponential function, where the experimental data $V>V_p$ needs to be trimmed beforehand, and this results in a lower accuracy compared to the numerical differentiation with SG. To overcome this difficulty, the $q$-Weibull function is introduced as a natural generalization to the $q$-exponential distribution, and it has greater flexibility in order to represent the concavity change around $V_p$. We apply this procedure to analyze the measurements corresponding to a nitrogen $N_2$ cold plasma obtained by using a single Langmuir probe located at different heights from the cathode. We show that the $q$ parameter has a very stable numerical value with the height. This work may contribute to clarify some advantages and limitations of the use of non-extensive statistics in plasma diagnostics, but the physical interpretation of the non-extensive parameters in plasma physics remains not fully clarified, and requires further research., Comment: 35 pages, 16 figures, 4 appendixes

En cualquier curso académico relacionado con la investigación en la comunidad lingüística, existe siempre un gran interés en los primeros pasos que se han de dar: "Qué se le dice a la gente"? Esta no es una pregunta trivial. Los pasos elementales para localizar y contactar informantes y el lograr que hablen libremente en una entrevista grabada, son problemas mayores para el estudioso. Seria un error descuidar estos primeros pasos, ya que en estas técnicas y prácticas están implícitos muchos principios esenciales de la conducta social y lingüística. Unexamen detallado de estos supuestos metodológicos es mucho lo que puede decirnos acerca de la naturaleza del discurso y de las funciones del lenguaje.

Item does not contain fulltext, Objectives: The therapeutic alliance (TA) has been shown to be a predictor of psychotherapy treatment success. In the case of psychotherapy with children, there is a dearth of information on TA's role. The aims of the paper are: (1) To estimate the therapist effects on children TA; (2) to investigate if therapists' TA predicts children's TA; (3) to analyze if children's age and sex predict children's TA; (4) to evaluate if the therapist's characteristics predict children's TA. Methods: The sample consisted of 77 children undergoing psychotherapy in Argentina, and the therapists (N = 29) providing services to those children. The assessment tools utilized for the study included the Therapy Alliance Scale for Children and the Personal Style of the Therapist Questionnaire (PST-Q). Results: Findings indicated that 2% of the children's TA was explained by the therapists (ICC = 0.02), while 17% of the therapists' TA was explained by the therapists (ICC = 0.17). Therapists' TA predicted children's TA. Children's age and sex did not have an effect on their own TA. Moreover, therapists with more experience achieved higher scores of children's TA. Finally, the Operative dimension of the PST had a negative effect on children's TA (i.e., therapists who prefer more spontaneous interventions over structured ones may experience higher levels of therapeutic alliance with child patients). Conclusion: We found a positive effect of the therapist's TA on children's TA, especially in the preference for using more spontaneous intervention techniques. Abstract

Short-term synaptic depression and facilitation have been found to greatly influence the performance of autoassociative neural networks. However, only partial results, focused for instance on the computation of the maximum storage capacity at zero temperature, have been obtained to date. In this work, we extended the study of the effect of these synaptic mechanisms on autoassociative neural networks to more realistic and general conditions, including the presence of noise in the system. In particular, we characterized the behavior of the system by means of its phase diagrams, and we concluded that synaptic facilitation significantly enlarges the region of good retrieval performance of the network. We also found that networks with facilitating synapses may have critical temperatures substantially higher than those of standard autoassociative networks, thus allowing neural networks to perform better under high-noise conditions., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, to appear in EPL

Abstract

La peritonitis se define como la inflamación del peritoneo visceral y parietal, distinguiendo fundamentalmente dos tipos: la peritonitis primaria (o peritonitis bacteriana espontánea) y la peritonitis secundaria (o quirúrgica) con características claramente diferenciadas. La peritonitis primaria se produce en pacientes cirróticos en los que el líquido ascítico se sobreinfecta, requiriendo para su diagnóstico un recuento de neutrófilos superior a 250/mm3en el líquido. El tratamiento fundamental es con antibióticos y albúmina intravenosa para prevenir la disfunción renal. En cuanto a la peritonitis secundaria, se produce por inflamación, perforación o gangrena de una estructura intraabdominal. Su diagnóstico debe ser precoz por la importancia de la rapidez en el inicio del tratamiento para el pronóstico del paciente, siendo clave la exploración física y las pruebas de imagen (tomografía computarizada), pese a que el diagnóstico definitivo se realiza mediante laparoscopia exploradora. En la mayor parte de los casos de peritonitis secundaria, la clave del tratamiento es la reanimación con líquidos, antibióticos y una laparotomía o una laparoscopia urgente.

42. Ascitis en el paciente no cirrótico

Abstract

La ascitis, definida como la acumulación anormal de líquido en la cavidad peritoneal, es debida principalmente a cirrosis e hipertensión portal (HTP); sin embargo, en un 20% de los casos no se relaciona con dicha entidad. Su estudio es esencial para determinar el manejo terapéutico debido a su diversa etiología. La fisiopatología de la ascitis no cirrótica no está habitualmente relacionada con la HTP asociada a la cirrosis, y la comprensión de estos mecanismos facilita el diagnóstico etiológico. Los síntomas son: distensión abdominal, aumento de peso, plenitud postprandial e incluso disnea. La exploración física puede ser normal en casos de ascitis muy ligera, o bien identificar un aumento del perímetro abdominal en casos más avanzados o graves, también pueden aparecer signos asociados a la enfermedad subyacente. La clasificación según el Club Internacional de la Ascitis la divide en función de la cantidad y distensión abdominal. La evaluación inicial incluye: historia clínica, examen físico, ecografía abdominal y análisis de líquido ascítico. La paracentesis diagnóstica es crucial para identificar la causa, analizando características del líquido como su apariencia y contenido, especialmente la concentración de proteínas y el gradiente de albúmina sero-ascítico que permitirán discriminar las diferentes causas. En los países occidentales, las causas más frecuentes son la patología tumoral y la cardíaca, mientras que en los países en desarrollo es la patología infecciosa, sobre todo la tuberculosis, la más prevalente.
