Thermodynamics of degenerate Fermi gases has been extensively studied through various aspects such as Pauli blocking effects, collective modes, BCS superfluidity, and more. Despite this, multi-component fermions with imbalanced spin configurations remain largely unexplored, particularly beyond the two-component scenario. In this work, we generalize the thermodynamic study of SU($N$) fermions to spin-imbalanced configurations based on density fluctuations. Theoretically, we provide closed-form expressions of density fluctuation across all temperature ranges for general spin population setups. Experimentally, after calibrating the measurements with deeply degenerate $^{173}$Yb Fermi gases under spin-balanced configurations ($N\leq$~6), we examine the density fluctuations in spin-imbalanced systems. Specifically, we investigate two-species and four-species configurations to validate our theoretical predictions. Our analysis indicates that interaction enhancement effects can be significant even in highly spin-imbalanced systems. Finally, as an application, we use this approach to examine the decoherence process. The advent of large language models (LLMs) revolutionized natural language processing applications, and running LLMs on edge devices has become increasingly attractive for reasons including reduced latency, data localization, and personalized user experiences. This comprehensive review examines the challenges of deploying computationally expensive LLMs on resource-constrained devices and explores innovative solutions across multiple domains. The paper investigates the development of on-device language models, their efficient architectures, including parameter sharing and modular designs, as well as state-of-the-art compression techniques like quantization, pruning, and knowledge distillation. Hardware acceleration strategies and collaborative edge-cloud deployment approaches are analyzed, highlighting the intricate balance between performance and resource utilization. Case studies of on-device language models from major mobile manufacturers demonstrate real-world applications and potential benefits. The review also addresses critical aspects such as adaptive learning, multi-modal capabilities, and personalization. By identifying key research directions and open challenges, this paper provides a roadmap for future advancements in on-device language models, emphasizing the need for interdisciplinary efforts to realize the full potential of ubiquitous, intelligent computing while ensuring responsible and ethical deployment. In the realm of heterogeneous mixed autonomy, vehicles experience dynamic spatial correlations and nonlinear temporal interactions in a complex, non-Euclidean space. These complexities pose significant challenges to traditional decision-making frameworks. Addressing this, we propose a hierarchical reinforcement learning framework integrated with multilevel graph representations, which effectively comprehends and models the spatiotemporal interactions among vehicles navigating through uncertain traffic conditions with varying decision-making systems. Rooted in multilevel graph representation theory, our approach encapsulates spatiotemporal relationships inherent in non-Euclidean spaces. A weighted graph represents spatiotemporal features between nodes, addressing the degree imbalance inherent in dynamic graphs. We integrate asynchronous parallel hierarchical reinforcement learning with a multilevel graph representation and a multi-head attention mechanism, which enables connected autonomous vehicles (CAVs) to exhibit capabilities akin to human cognition, facilitating consistent decision-making across various critical dimensions. The proposed decision-making strategy is validated in challenging environments characterized by high density, randomness, and dynamism on highway roads. We assess the performance of our framework through ablation studies, comparative analyses, and spatiotemporal trajectory evaluations. Platooning technology is renowned for its precise vehicle control, traffic flow optimization, and energy efficiency enhancement. However, in large-scale mixed platoons, vehicle heterogeneity and unpredictable traffic conditions lead to virtual bottlenecks. These bottlenecks result in reduced traffic throughput and increased energy consumption within the platoon. To address these challenges, we introduce a decision-making strategy based on nested graph reinforcement learning. This strategy improves collaborative decision-making, ensuring energy efficiency and alleviating congestion. We propose a theory of nested traffic graph representation that maps dynamic interactions between vehicles and platoons in non-Euclidean spaces. By incorporating spatio-temporal weighted graph into a multi-head attention mechanism, we further enhance the model's capacity to process both local and global data. Additionally, we have developed a nested graph reinforcement learning framework to enhance the self-iterative learning capabilities of platooning. Using the I-24 dataset, we designed and conducted comparative algorithm experiments, generalizability testing, and permeability ablation experiments, thereby validating the proposed strategy's effectiveness. Compared to the baseline, our strategy increases throughput by 10% and decreases energy use by 9%. Question Answering (QA) effectively evaluates language models' reasoning and knowledge depth. While QA datasets are plentiful in areas like general domain and biomedicine, academic chemistry is less explored. Chemical QA plays a crucial role in both education and research by effectively translating complex chemical information into readily understandable format. Addressing this gap, we introduce ScholarChemQA, a large-scale QA dataset constructed from chemical papers. This dataset reflects typical real-world challenges, including an imbalanced data distribution and a substantial amount of unlabeled data that can be potentially useful. Correspondingly, we introduce a QAMatch model, specifically designed to effectively answer chemical questions by fully leveraging our collected data. We first address the issue of imbalanced label distribution by re-weighting the instance-wise loss based on the inverse frequency of each class, ensuring minority classes are not dominated by majority ones during optimization. Next, we utilize the unlabeled data to enrich the learning process, generating a variety of augmentations based on a SoftMix operation and ensuring their predictions align with the same target, i.e., pseudo-labels. To ensure the quality of the pseudo-labels, we propose a calibration procedure aimed at closely aligning the pseudo-label estimates of individual samples with a desired ground truth distribution. Experiments show that our QAMatch significantly outperforms the recent similar-scale baselines and Large Language Models (LLMs) not only on our ScholarChemQA dataset but also on four benchmark datasets. Foundation models have recently attracted significant attention for their impressive generalizability across diverse downstream tasks. However, these models are demonstrated to exhibit great limitations in representing high-frequency components and fine-grained details. In many medical imaging tasks, the precise representation of such information is crucial due to the inherently intricate anatomical structures, sub-visual features, and complex boundaries involved. Consequently, the limited representation of prevalent foundation models can result in significant performance degradation or even failure in these tasks. To address these challenges, we propose a novel pretraining strategy, named Frequency-advanced Representation Autoencoder (Frepa). Through high-frequency masking and low-frequency perturbation combined with adversarial learning, Frepa encourages the encoder to effectively represent and preserve high-frequency components in the image embeddings. Additionally, we introduce an innovative histogram-equalized image masking strategy, extending the Masked Autoencoder approach beyond ViT to other architectures such as Swin Transformer and convolutional networks. We develop Frepa across nine medical modalities and validate it on 32 downstream tasks for both 2D images and 3D volume data. Without fine-tuning, Frepa can outperform other self-supervised pretraining methods and, in some cases, even surpasses task-specific trained models. This improvement is particularly significant for tasks involving fine-grained details, such as achieving up to a +15% increase in DSC for retina vessel segmentation and a +7% increase in IoU for lung nodule detection. Further experiments quantitatively reveal that Frepa enables superior high-frequency representations and preservation in the embeddings, underscoring its potential for developing more generalized and universal medical image foundation models.

Cooperative LiDAR systems integrating vehicles and road infrastructure, termed V2I calibration, exhibit substantial potential, yet their deployment encounters numerous challenges. A pivotal aspect of ensuring data accuracy and consistency across such systems involves the calibration of LiDAR units across heterogeneous vehicular and infrastructural endpoints. This necessitates the development of calibration methods that are both real-time and robust, particularly those that can ensure robust performance in urban canyon scenarios without relying on initial positioning values. Accordingly, this paper introduces a novel approach to V2I calibration, leveraging spatial association information among perceived objects. Central to this method is the innovative Overall Intersection over Union (oIoU) metric, which quantifies the correlation between targets identified by vehicle and infrastructure systems, thereby facilitating the real-time monitoring of calibration results. Our approach involves identifying common targets within the perception results of vehicle and infrastructure LiDAR systems through the construction of an affinity matrix. These common targets then form the basis for the calculation and optimization of extrinsic parameters. Comparative and ablation studies conducted using the DAIR-V2X dataset substantiate the superiority of our approach. This paper is concerned with the existence and location of three-dimensional axisymmetric transonic shock with large swirl velocity for solutions of the steady compressible full Euler system in a cylindrical nozzle with prescribed receiver pressure. Special non-trivial shock solutions with large vorticity are first constructed by considering arbitrarily given non-zero swirl functions. Then the existence and locations of the transonic shock solutions to the full Euler equations are achieved under small perturbations on the special shock solutions with appropriate boundary conditions on the entrance of the nozzle and the receiver pressure at the exit. Moreover, within the proof, fundamental contributions of the non-zero swirl velocity in determining the position of the shock front are investigated. Mathematically, it can be formulated as a free boundary value problem with the shock front as the free boundary, whose solution states are a perturbation of non-trivial background solutions, and with a singularity at the axis-symmetry. Because the shock location can be arbitrary for the special shock solutions, approximate shock solutions of a free boundary problem for a specific linearized Euler system are constructed and an iteration scheme is designed around the approximate shock solution with a perturbation of higher order. As far as we know, it is the first mathematical result on the three-dimensional transonic shock with either large vorticity or large swirl velocity. New ideas and methods introduced in this paper will be also helpful for other problems with similar difficulties.

Contrast-enhanced brain MRI (CE-MRI) is a valuable diagnostic technique but may pose health risks and incur high costs. To create safer alternatives, multi-modality medical image translation aims to synthesize CE-MRI images from other available modalities. Although existing methods can generate promising predictions, they still face two challenges, i.e., exhibiting over-confidence and lacking interpretability on predictions. To address the above challenges, this paper introduces TrustI2I, a novel trustworthy method that reformulates multi-to-one medical image translation problem as a multimodal regression problem, aiming to build an uncertainty-aware and reliable system. Specifically, our method leverages deep evidential regression to estimate prediction uncertainties and employs an explicit intermediate and late fusion strategy based on the Mixture of Normal Inverse Gamma (MoNIG) distribution, enhancing both synthesis quality and interpretability. Additionally, we incorporate uncertainty calibration to improve the reliability of uncertainty. Accurate segmentation of ovarian tumors from medical images is crucial for early diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient management. However, the diverse morphological characteristics and heterogeneous appearances of ovarian tumors pose significant challenges to automated segmentation methods. In this paper, we propose MBA-Net, a novel architecture that integrates the powerful segmentation capabilities of the Segment Anything Model (SAM) with domain-specific knowledge for accurate and robust ovarian tumor segmentation. MBA-Net employs a hybrid encoder architecture, where the encoder consists of a prior branch, which inherits the SAM encoder to capture robust segmentation priors, and a domain branch, specifically designed to extract domain-specific features. The bidirectional flow of information between the two branches is facilitated by the robust feature injection network (RFIN) and the domain knowledge integration network (DKIN), enabling MBA-Net to leverage the complementary strengths of both branches. We extensively evaluate MBA-Net on the public multi-modality ovarian tumor ultrasound dataset and the in-house multi-site ovarian tumor MRI dataset. Our proposed method consistently outperforms state-of-the-art segmentation approaches. Using the Kreuzer-Skarke database of 4-dimensional reflexive polytopes, we systematically constructed a new database of orientifold Calabi-Yau threefolds with $h^{1,1}(X) \leq 12$. Our approach involved non-trivial $\mathbb{Z}_2$ involutions, incorporating both divisor exchanges and multi-divisor reflections acting on the Calabi-Yau threefolds. Each proper involution results in an orientifold Calabi-Yau threefolds and we constructed 320,386,067 such examples. We developed a novel algorithm that significantly reduces the complexity of determining all the fixed loci under the involutions, and clarifies the types of O-planes. Our results show that under proper involutions, the majority of cases end up with O3/O7-plane systems, and most of these further admit a naive Type IIB string vacua. Additionally, a new type of free action was determined. Personalized Federated Continual Learning (PFCL) is a new practical scenario that poses greater challenges in sharing and personalizing knowledge. PFCL not only relies on knowledge fusion for server aggregation at the global spatial-temporal perspective but also needs model improvement for each client according to the local requirements. Existing methods, whether in Personalized Federated Learning (PFL) or Federated Continual Learning (FCL), have overlooked the multi-granularity representation of knowledge, which can be utilized to overcome Spatial-Temporal Catastrophic Forgetting (STCF) and adopt generalized knowledge to itself by coarse-to-fine human cognitive mechanisms. Moreover, it allows more effectively to personalized shared knowledge, thus serving its own purpose. To this end, we propose a novel concept called multi-granularity prompt, i.e., coarse-grained global prompt acquired through the common model learning process, and fine-grained local prompt used to personalize the generalized representation. The former focuses on efficiently transferring shared global knowledge without spatial forgetting, and the latter emphasizes specific learning of personalized local knowledge to overcome temporal forgetting. In addition, we design a selective prompt fusion mechanism for aggregating knowledge of global prompts distilled from different clients. By the exclusive fusion of coarse-grained knowledge, we achieve the transmission and refinement of common knowledge among clients, further enhancing the performance of personalization. Due to the high stakes in medical decision-making, there is a compelling demand for interpretable deep learning methods in medical image analysis. Concept Bottleneck Models (CBM) have emerged as an active interpretable framework incorporating human-interpretable concepts into decision-making. However, their concept predictions may lack reliability when applied to clinical diagnosis, impeding concept explanations' quality. To address this, we propose an evidential Concept Embedding Model (evi-CEM), which employs evidential learning to model the concept uncertainty. Additionally, we offer to leverage the concept uncertainty to rectify concept misalignments that arise when training CBMs using vision-language models without complete concept supervision. With the proposed methods, we can enhance concept explanations' reliability for both supervised and label-efficient settings. Furthermore, we introduce concept uncertainty for effective test-time intervention. Our evaluation demonstrates that evi-CEM achieves superior performance in terms of concept prediction, and the proposed concept rectification effectively mitigates concept misalignments for label-efficient training. Nowadays, neural text generation has made tremendous progress in abstractive summarization tasks. However, most of the existing summarization models take in the whole document all at once, which sometimes cannot meet the needs in practice. Practically, social text streams such as news events and tweets keep growing from time to time, and can only be fed to the summarization system step by step. Hence, in this paper, we propose the task of Stepwise Summarization, which aims to generate a new appended summary each time a new document is proposed. The appended summary should not only summarize the newly added content but also be coherent with the previous summary, to form an up-to-date complete summary. To tackle this challenge, we design an adversarial learning model, named Stepwise Summary Generator (SSG). First, SSG selectively processes the new document under the guidance of the previous summary, obtaining polished document representation. Next, SSG generates the summary considering both the previous summary and the document. Finally, a convolutional-based discriminator is employed to determine whether the newly generated summary is coherent with the previous summary. For the experiment, we extend the traditional two-step update summarization setting to a multi-step stepwise setting, and re-propose a large-scale stepwise summarization dataset based on a public story generation dataset. Extensive experiments on this dataset show that SSG achieves state-of-the-art performance in terms of both automatic metrics and human evaluations. A proficient summarization model should exhibit both flexibility -- the capacity to handle a range of in-domain summarization tasks, and adaptability -- the competence to acquire new knowledge and adjust to unseen out-of-domain tasks. Unlike large language models (LLMs) that achieve this through parameter scaling, we propose a more parameter-efficient approach in this study. Our motivation rests on the principle that the general summarization ability to capture salient information can be shared across different tasks, while the domain-specific summarization abilities need to be distinct and tailored. Concretely, we propose MoeSumm, a Mixture-of-Expert Summarization architecture, which utilizes a main expert for gaining the general summarization capability and deputy experts that selectively collaborate to meet specific summarization task requirements. We further propose a max-margin loss to stimulate the separation of these abilities. Our model's distinct separation of general and domain-specific summarization abilities grants it with notable flexibility and adaptability, all while maintaining parameter efficiency. MoeSumm achieves flexibility by managing summarization across multiple domains with a single model, utilizing a shared main expert and selected deputy experts. It exhibits adaptability by tailoring deputy experts to cater to out-of-domain few-shot and zero-shot scenarios. The emergence of online recruitment services has revolutionized the traditional landscape of job seeking and recruitment, necessitating the development of high-quality industrial applications to improve person-job fitting. Existing methods generally rely on modeling the latent semantics of resumes and job descriptions and learning a matching function between them. Inspired by the powerful role-playing capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs), we propose to introduce a mock interview process between LLM-played interviewers and candidates. The mock interview conversations can provide additional evidence for candidate evaluation, thereby augmenting traditional person-job fitting based solely on resumes and job descriptions. However, characterizing these two roles in online recruitment still presents several challenges, such as developing the skills to raise interview questions, formulating appropriate answers, and evaluating two-sided fitness. To this end, we propose MockLLM, a novel applicable framework that divides the person-job matching process into two modules: mock interview generation and two-sided evaluation in handshake protocol, jointly enhancing their performance through collaborative behaviors between interviewers and candidates. We design a role-playing framework as a multi-role and multi-behavior paradigm to enable a single LLM agent to effectively behave with multiple functions for both parties. Moreover, we propose reflection memory generation and dynamic prompt modification techniques to refine the behaviors of both sides, enabling continuous optimization of the augmented additional evidence. Extensive experimental results show that MockLLM can achieve the best performance on person-job matching accompanied by high mock interview quality, envisioning its emerging application in real online recruitment in the future.

With the widespread application of artificial intelligence (AI), particularly deep learning (DL) and vision-based large language models (VLLMs), in skin disease diagnosis, the need for interpretability becomes crucial. However, existing dermatology datasets are limited in their inclusion of concept-level meta-labels, and none offer rich medical descriptions in natural language. This deficiency impedes the advancement of LLM-based methods in dermatological diagnosis. To address this gap and provide a meticulously annotated dermatology dataset with comprehensive natural language descriptions, we introduce SkinCAP: a multi-modal dermatology dataset annotated with rich medical captions. SkinCAP comprises 4,000 images sourced from the Fitzpatrick 17k skin disease dataset and the Diverse Dermatology Images dataset, annotated by board-certified dermatologists to provide extensive medical descriptions and captions. While the thermodynamics for bosonic systems with weak $s$-wave interactions has been known for decades, a general and systematic extension to higher partial waves has not yet been reported. We provide closed-form expressions for the equations of state for weakly interacting systems with arbitrary partial waves in the normal phase. Thermodynamics, including contact, loss rate, and compressibility, are derived over the entire temperature regime. Noisy labels significantly hinder the accuracy and generalization of machine learning models, particularly due to ambiguous instance features. Traditional techniques that attempt to correct noisy labels directly, such as those using transition matrices, often fail to address the inherent complexities of the problem sufficiently. In this paper, we introduce EchoAlign, a transformative paradigm shift in learning from noisy labels. Instead of focusing on label correction, EchoAlign treats noisy labels ($\tilde{Y}$) as accurate and modifies corresponding instance features ($X$) to achieve better alignment with $\tilde{Y}$. EchoAlign's core components are (1) EchoMod: Employing controllable generative models, EchoMod precisely modifies instances while maintaining their intrinsic characteristics and ensuring alignment with the noisy labels. (2) EchoSelect: Instance modification inevitably introduces distribution shifts between training and test sets. EchoSelect maintains a significant portion of clean original instances to mitigate these shifts. It leverages the distinct feature similarity distributions between original and modified instances as a robust tool for accurate sample selection. This integrated approach yields remarkable results. In environments with 30% instance-dependent noise, even at 99% selection accuracy, EchoSelect retains nearly twice the number of samples compared to the previous best method. Recent studies indicate that large multimodal models (LMMs) are highly robust against natural distribution shifts, often surpassing previous baselines. Despite this, domain-specific adaptation is still necessary, particularly in specialized areas like healthcare. Due to the impracticality of fine-tuning LMMs given their vast parameter space, this work investigates in-context learning (ICL) as an effective alternative for enhancing LMMs' adaptability. We find that the success of ICL heavily relies on the choice of demonstration, mirroring challenges seen in large language models but introducing unique complexities for LMMs facing distribution shifts. Our study addresses this by evaluating an unsupervised ICL method, TopKNearestPR, which selects in-context examples through a nearest example search based on feature similarity. We uncover that its effectiveness is limited by the deficiencies of pre-trained vision encoders under distribution shift scenarios. To address these challenges, we propose InvariantSelectPR, a novel method leveraging Class-conditioned Contrastive Invariance (CCI) for more robust demonstration selection. Specifically, CCI enhances pre-trained vision encoders by improving their discriminative capabilities across different classes and ensuring invariance to domain-specific variations. This enhancement allows the encoders to effectively identify and retrieve the most informative examples, which are then used to guide LMMs in adapting to new query samples under varying distributions. Our experiments show that InvariantSelectPR substantially improves the adaptability of LMMs, achieving significant performance gains on benchmark datasets, with a 34.2%$\uparrow$ accuracy increase in 7-shot on Camelyon17 and 16.9%$\uparrow$ increase in 7-shot on HAM10000 compared to the baseline zero-shot performance., Comment: 17 pages, 7 figures, 7 tables

In the typical urban intersection scenario, both vehicles and infrastructures are equipped with visual and LiDAR sensors. By successfully integrating the data from vehicle-side and road monitoring devices, a more comprehensive and accurate environmental perception and information acquisition can be achieved. The Calibration of sensors, as an essential component of autonomous driving technology, has consistently drawn significant attention. Particularly in scenarios involving multiple sensors collaboratively perceiving and addressing localization challenges, the requirement for inter-sensor calibration becomes crucial. Recent years have witnessed the emergence of the concept of multi-end cooperation, where infrastructure captures and transmits surrounding environment information to vehicles, bolstering their perception capabilities while mitigating costs. However, this also poses technical complexities, underscoring the pressing need for diverse end calibration. Camera and LiDAR, the bedrock sensors in autonomous driving, exhibit expansive applicability. This paper comprehensively examines and analyzes the calibration of multi-end camera-LiDAR setups from vehicle, roadside, and vehicle-road cooperation perspectives, outlining their relevant applications and profound significance. Concluding with a summary, we present our future-oriented ideas and hypotheses.

Federated Class-Incremental Learning (FCIL) focuses on continually transferring the previous knowledge to learn new classes in dynamic Federated Learning (FL). However, existing methods do not consider the trustworthiness of FCIL, i.e., improving continual utility, privacy, and efficiency simultaneously, which is greatly influenced by catastrophic forgetting and data heterogeneity among clients. To address this issue, we propose FedProK (Federated Prototypical Feature Knowledge Transfer), leveraging prototypical feature as a novel representation of knowledge to perform spatial-temporal knowledge transfer. Specifically, FedProK consists of two components: (1) feature translation procedure on the client side by temporal knowledge transfer from the learned classes and (2) prototypical knowledge fusion on the server side by spatial knowledge transfer among clients. Extensive experiments conducted in both synchronous and asynchronous settings demonstrate that our FedProK outperforms the other state-of-the-art methods in three perspectives of trustworthiness, validating its effectiveness in selectively transferring spatial-temporal knowledge.

Possible light bosonic dark matter interactions with the Standard Model photon have been searched by microwave resonant cavities. In this paper, we demonstrate the cryogenic readout system calibration of a 7.138 GHz copper cavity with a loaded quality factor $Q_l=10^4$, operated at 22 mK temperature based on a dilution refrigerator. Our readout system consists of High Electron Mobility Transistors as cryogenic amplifiers at 4 K, plus room-temperature amplifiers and a spectrum analyzer for signal power detection. We test the system with a superconducting two-level system as a single-photon source in the microwave frequency regime and report an overall 95.6 dB system gain and -71.4 dB attenuation in the cavity's input channel. Pulmonary artery-vein segmentation is crucial for diagnosing pulmonary diseases and surgical planning, and is traditionally achieved by Computed Tomography Pulmonary Angiography (CTPA). However, concerns regarding adverse health effects from contrast agents used in CTPA have constrained its clinical utility. In contrast, identifying arteries and veins using non-contrast CT, a conventional and low-cost clinical examination routine, has long been considered impossible. Here we propose a High-abundant Pulmonary Artery-vein Segmentation (HiPaS) framework achieving accurate artery-vein segmentation on both non-contrast CT and CTPA across various spatial resolutions. HiPaS first performs spatial normalization on raw CT scans via a super-resolution module, and then iteratively achieves segmentation results at different branch levels by utilizing the low-level vessel segmentation as a prior for high-level vessel segmentation. We trained and validated HiPaS on our established multi-centric dataset comprising 1,073 CT volumes with meticulous manual annotation. Both quantitative experiments and clinical evaluation demonstrated the superior performance of HiPaS, achieving a dice score of 91.8% and a sensitivity of 98.0%. Further experiments demonstrated the non-inferiority of HiPaS segmentation on non-contrast CT compared to segmentation on CTPA. Employing HiPaS, we have conducted an anatomical study of pulmonary vasculature on 10,613 participants in China (five sites), discovering a new association between pulmonary vessel abundance and sex and age: vessel abundance is significantly higher in females than in males, and slightly decreases with age, under the controlling of lung volumes (p < 0.0001). HiPaS realizing accurate artery-vein segmentation delineates a promising avenue for clinical diagnosis and understanding pulmonary physiology in a non-invasive manner.

With the increasingly powerful performances and enormous scales of pretrained models, promoting parameter efficiency in fine-tuning has become a crucial need for effective and efficient adaptation to various downstream tasks. One representative line of fine-tuning methods is Orthogonal Fine-tuning (OFT), which rigorously preserves the angular distances within the parameter space to preserve the pretrained knowledge. Despite the empirical effectiveness, OFT still suffers low parameter efficiency at $\mathcal{O}(d^2)$ and limited capability of downstream adaptation. Inspired by Givens rotation, in this paper, we proposed quasi-Givens Orthogonal Fine-Tuning (qGOFT) to address the problems. We first use $\mathcal{O}(d)$ Givens rotations to accomplish arbitrary orthogonal transformation in $SO(d)$ with provable equivalence, reducing parameter complexity from $\mathcal{O}(d^2)$ to $\mathcal{O}(d)$. Then we introduce flexible norm and relative angular adjustments under soft orthogonality regularization to enhance the adaptation capability of downstream semantic deviations. The dark photon is a promising candidate for the dark matter which comprises most of the matter in our visible Universe. Via kinetic mixing with the Standard Model it can also be resonantly converted to photons in an electromagnetic cavity, offering novel experimental possibilities for the discovery and study of dark matter. We report the results of a pathfinder dark photon dark matter cavity search experiment performed at Hunan Normal University and the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, representing the first stage of the APEX (Axion and dark Photon EXperiment) program. Finding no statistically significant excess, we place an upper limit on the kinetic mixing parameter $|\chi|<3.7\times 10^{-13}$ around $m_A\simeq 29.5$ $\mu$eV at 90% confidence level. Information-seeking dialogue systems are widely used in e-commerce systems, with answers that must be tailored to fit the specific settings of the online system. Given the user query, the information-seeking dialogue systems first retrieve a subset of response candidates, then further select the best response from the candidate set through re-ranking. Current methods mainly retrieve response candidates based solely on the current query, however, incorporating similar questions could introduce more diverse content, potentially refining the representation and improving the matching process. Hence, in this paper, we proposed a Query-bag based Pseudo Relevance Feedback framework (QB-PRF), which constructs a query-bag with related queries to serve as pseudo signals to guide information-seeking conversations. Concretely, we first propose a Query-bag Selection module (QBS), which utilizes contrastive learning to train the selection of synonymous queries in an unsupervised manner by leveraging the representations learned from pre-trained VAE. Secondly, we come up with a Query-bag Fusion module (QBF) that fuses synonymous queries to enhance the semantic representation of the original query through multidimensional attention computation. We verify the effectiveness of the QB-PRF framework on two competitive pretrained backbone models, including BERT and GPT-2. Experimental results on two benchmark datasets show that our framework achieves superior performance over strong baselines.

Open-domain question answering (ODQA) has emerged as a pivotal research spotlight in information systems. Existing methods follow two main paradigms to collect evidence: (1) The \textit{retrieve-then-read} paradigm retrieves pertinent documents from an external corpus; and (2) the \textit{generate-then-read} paradigm employs large language models (LLMs) to generate relevant documents. However, neither can fully address multifaceted requirements for evidence. To this end, we propose LLMQA, a generalized framework that formulates the ODQA process into three basic steps: query expansion, document selection, and answer generation, combining the superiority of both retrieval-based and generation-based evidence. Since LLMs exhibit their excellent capabilities to accomplish various tasks, we instruct LLMs to play multiple roles as generators, rerankers, and evaluators within our framework, integrating them to collaborate in the ODQA process. Furthermore, we introduce a novel prompt optimization algorithm to refine role-playing prompts and steer LLMs to produce higher-quality evidence and answers. In reasoning tasks, even a minor error can cascade into inaccurate results, leading to suboptimal performance of large language models in such domains. Earlier fine-tuning approaches sought to mitigate this by leveraging more precise supervisory signals from human labeling, larger models, or self-sampling, although at a high cost. Conversely, we develop a method that avoids external resources, relying instead on introducing perturbations to the input. Our training approach randomly masks certain tokens within the chain of thought, a technique we found to be particularly effective for reasoning tasks. When applied to fine-tuning with GSM8K on Llama-2-7B, this method achieved a 5\% improvement in GSM8K accuracy and a 10\% improvement in GSM-IC accuracy over standard supervised fine-tuning with a few codes modified. Furthermore, it is complementary to existing methods. When integrated with related explicit data augmentation methods, it leads to improvements across five datasets of various augmentation methods, as well as two different base models. We further investigate the mechanisms behind this improvement through case studies and quantitative analysis, suggesting that our approach may provide superior support for the model in capturing long-distance dependencies, especially those related to questions. The summarization capabilities of pretrained and large language models (LLMs) have been widely validated in general areas, but their use in scientific corpus, which involves complex sentences and specialized knowledge, has been less assessed. This paper presents conceptual and experimental analyses of scientific summarization, highlighting the inadequacies of traditional evaluation methods, such as $n$-gram, embedding comparison, and QA, particularly in providing explanations, grasping scientific concepts, or identifying key content. Subsequently, we introduce the Facet-aware Metric (FM), employing LLMs for advanced semantic matching to evaluate summaries based on different aspects. This facet-aware approach offers a thorough evaluation of abstracts by decomposing the evaluation task into simpler subtasks.Recognizing the absence of an evaluation benchmark in this domain, we curate a Facet-based scientific summarization Dataset (FD) with facet-level annotations. Our findings confirm that FM offers a more logical approach to evaluating scientific summaries. In addition, fine-tuned smaller models can compete with LLMs in scientific contexts, while LLMs have limitations in learning from in-context information in scientific domains. Psychological measurement is essential for mental health, self-understanding, and personal development. Traditional methods, such as self-report scales and psychologist interviews, often face challenges with engagement and accessibility. While game-based and LLM-based tools have been explored to improve user interest and automate assessment, they struggle to balance engagement with generalizability. In this work, we propose PsychoGAT (Psychological Game AgenTs) to achieve a generic gamification of psychological assessment. The main insight is that powerful LLMs can function both as adept psychologists and innovative game designers. By incorporating LLM agents into designated roles and carefully managing their interactions, PsychoGAT can transform any standardized scales into personalized and engaging interactive fiction games. To validate the proposed method, we conduct psychometric evaluations to assess its effectiveness and employ human evaluators to examine the generated content across various psychological constructs, including depression, cognitive distortions, and personality traits. Results demonstrate that PsychoGAT serves as an effective assessment tool, achieving statistically significant excellence in psychometric metrics such as reliability, convergent validity, and discriminant validity. Confining glassy polymer into films can substantially modify their local and film-averaged properties. We present a lattice model of film geometry with void-mediated facilitation behaviors but free from any elasticity effect. We analyze the spatially varying viscosity to delineate the transport property of glassy films. The film mobility measurements reported by [Yang et. al., Science, 2010, 328, 1676] are successfully reproduced. The flow exhibits a crossover from simple viscous flow to a surface-dominated regime as temperature decreases. The propagation of a highly mobile front induced by the free surface is visualized in real space. Our approach provides a microscopic treatment of the observed glassy phenomena.

In radiology, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has significantly advanced report generation, but automatic evaluation of these AI-produced reports remains challenging. Current metrics, such as Conventional Natural Language Generation (NLG) and Clinical Efficacy (CE), often fall short in capturing the semantic intricacies of clinical contexts or overemphasize clinical details, undermining report clarity. To overcome these issues, our proposed method synergizes the expertise of professional radiologists with Large Language Models (LLMs), like GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 1. Utilizing In-Context Instruction Learning (ICIL) and Chain of Thought (CoT) reasoning, our approach aligns LLM evaluations with radiologist standards, enabling detailed comparisons between human and AI generated reports. This is further enhanced by a Regression model that aggregates sentence evaluation scores. Experimental results show that our "Detailed GPT-4 (5-shot)" model achieves a 0.48 score, outperforming the METEOR metric by 0.19, while our "Regressed GPT-4" model shows even greater alignment with expert evaluations, exceeding the best existing metric by a 0.35 margin. Moreover, the robustness of our explanations has been validated through a thorough iterative strategy. We plan to publicly release annotations from radiology experts, setting a new standard for accuracy in future assessments. This underscores the potential of our approach in enhancing the quality assessment of AI-driven medical reports.

We study a nearly critical superfluid system from two complementary approaches. Within the first approach, we formulate a Schwinger-Keldysh effective field theory (EFT) for the system when it is located slightly above the critical temperature. . The set of symmetries, particularly the dynamical Kubo-Martin-Schwinger (KMS) symmetry and chemical shift symmetry, strictly constrains the form of EFT action. Recent advances in protein language models have catalyzed significant progress in peptide sequence representation. Despite extensive exploration in this field, pre-trained models tailored for peptide-specific needs remain largely unaddressed due to the difficulty in capturing the complex and sometimes unstable structures of peptides. This study introduces a novel multi-view contrastive learning framework PepHarmony for the sequence-based peptide encoding task. PepHarmony innovatively combines both sequence- and structure-level information into a sequence-level encoding module through contrastive learning. We carefully select datasets from the Protein Data Bank (PDB) and AlphaFold database to encompass a broad spectrum of peptide sequences and structures. The experimental data highlights PepHarmony's exceptional capability in capturing the intricate relationship between peptide sequences and structures compared with the baseline and fine-tuned models. The robustness of our model is confirmed through extensive ablation studies, which emphasize the crucial roles of contrastive loss and strategic data sorting in enhancing predictive performance. The proposed PepHarmony framework serves as a notable contribution to peptide representations, and offers valuable insights for future applications in peptide drug discovery and peptide engineering. Coarse-to-fine schemes are widely used in traditional single-image motion deblur; however, in the context of deep learning, existing multi-scale algorithms not only require the use of complex modules for feature fusion of low-scale RGB images and deep semantics, but also manually generate low-resolution pairs of images that do not have sufficient confidence. In this work, we propose a multi-scale network based on single-input and multiple-outputs(SIMO) for motion deblurring. This simplifies the complexity of algorithms based on a coarse-to-fine scheme. To alleviate restoration defects impacting detail information brought about by using a multi-scale architecture, we combine the characteristics of real-world blurring trajectories with a learnable wavelet transform module to focus on the directional continuity and frequency features of the step-by-step transitions between blurred images to sharp images. In conclusion, we propose a multi-scale network with a learnable discrete wavelet transform (MLWNet), which exhibits state-of-the-art performance on multiple real-world deblurred datasets, in terms of both subjective and objective quality as well as computational efficiency.

Low-light image enhancement aims to improve the perception of images collected in dim environments and provide high-quality data support for image recognition tasks. When dealing with photos captured under non-uniform illumination, existing methods cannot adaptively extract the differentiated luminance information, which will easily cause over-exposure and under-exposure. From the perspective of unsupervised learning, we propose a multi-scale attention Transformer named MSATr, which sufficiently extracts local and global features for light balance to improve the visual quality. Specifically, we present a multi-scale window division scheme, which uses exponential sequences to adjust the window size of each layer. Within different-sized windows, the self-attention computation can be refined, ensuring the pixel-level feature processing capability of the model. For feature interaction across windows, a global transformer branch is constructed to provide comprehensive brightness perception and alleviate exposure problems. Furthermore, we propose a loop training strategy, using the diverse images generated by weighted mixing and a luminance consistency loss to improve the model's generalization ability effectively. Extensive experiments on several benchmark datasets quantitatively and qualitatively prove that our MSATr is superior to state-of-the-art low-light image enhancement methods, and the enhanced images have more natural brightness and outstanding details. Data privacy and silos are nontrivial and greatly challenging in many real-world applications. Federated learning is a decentralized approach to training models across multiple local clients without the exchange of raw data from client devices to global servers. However, existing works focus on a static data environment and ignore continual learning from streaming data with incremental tasks. Federated Continual Learning (FCL) is an emerging paradigm to address model learning in both federated and continual learning environments. The key objective of FCL is to fuse heterogeneous knowledge from different clients and retain knowledge of previous tasks while learning on new ones. In this work, we delineate federated learning and continual learning first and then discuss their integration, i.e., FCL, and particular FCL via knowledge fusion. In summary, our motivations are four-fold: we (1) raise a fundamental problem called ''spatial-temporal catastrophic forgetting'' and evaluate its impact on the performance using a well-known method called federated averaging (FedAvg), (2) integrate most of the existing FCL methods into two generic frameworks, namely synchronous FCL and asynchronous FCL, (3) categorize a large number of methods according to the mechanism involved in knowledge fusion, and finally (4) showcase an outlook on the future work of FCL., Comment: 20 pages

Stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) has played an increasingly pivotal role in chemistry and photonics. Recently, understanding of light-molecule interaction during SRS was brought to a new quantitative level through the introduction of stimulated Raman cross section, $\sigma_{SRS}$. Measurements of Raman-active molecules have revealed interesting insights, and theoretical consideration has suggested an Einstein-coefficient-like relation between $\sigma_{SRS}$ and the commonly used spontaneous Raman cross sections, $\sigma_{Raman}$. However, the theoretical underpinning of $\sigma_{SRS}$ is not known. Herein we provide a full quantum mechanical treatment for $\sigma_{SRS}$, via both a semi-classical method and a quantum electrodynamic (QED) method. The resulting formula provides a rigorous theory to predict experimental outcome from first principles, and unveils key physical factors rendering $\sigma_{SRS}$ inherently strong response. Through this formula, we also confirm the validity of the Einstein-coefficient-like equation connecting $\sigma_{Raman}$ and $\sigma_{SRS}$ reported earlier, and discuss the inherent symmetry between all spontaneous and stimulated optical processes. In the realm of 3D digital human applications, music-to-dance presents a challenging task. Given the one-to-many relationship between music and dance, previous methods have been limited in their approach, relying solely on matching and generating corresponding dance movements based on music rhythm. In the professional field of choreography, a dance phrase consists of several dance poses and dance movements. Dance poses composed of a series of basic meaningful body postures, while dance movements can reflect dynamic changes such as the rhythm, melody, and style of dance. Taking inspiration from these concepts, we introduce an innovative dance generation pipeline called DanceMeld, which comprising two stages, i.e., the dance decouple stage and the dance generation stage. In the decouple stage, a hierarchical VQ-VAE is used to disentangle dance poses and dance movements in different feature space levels, where the bottom code represents dance poses, and the top code represents dance movements. In the generation stage, we utilize a diffusion model as a prior to model the distribution and generate latent codes conditioned on music features. We have experimentally demonstrated the representational capabilities of top code and bottom code, enabling the explicit decoupling expression of dance poses and dance movements. This disentanglement not only provides control over motion details, styles, and rhythm but also facilitates applications such as dance style transfer and dance unit editing. Character Animation aims to generating character videos from still images through driving signals. Currently, diffusion models have become the mainstream in visual generation research, owing to their robust generative capabilities. However, challenges persist in the realm of image-to-video, especially in character animation, where temporally maintaining consistency with detailed information from character remains a formidable problem. In this paper, we leverage the power of diffusion models and propose a novel framework tailored for character animation. To preserve consistency of intricate appearance features from reference image, we design ReferenceNet to merge detail features via spatial attention. To ensure controllability and continuity, we introduce an efficient pose guider to direct character's movements and employ an effective temporal modeling approach to ensure smooth inter-frame transitions between video frames. By expanding the training data, our approach can animate arbitrary characters, yielding superior results in character animation compared to other image-to-video methods. A principal delegates decisions to a biased agent. Payoffs depend on a state that the principal cannot observe. Initially, the agent does not observe the state, but he can acquire information about it at a cost. We characterize the principal's optimal delegation set. This set features a cap on high decisions and a gap around the agent's ex ante favorite decision. It may even induce ex-post Pareto-dominated decisions. Under certain conditions on the cost of information acquisition, we show that the principal prefers delegating to an agent with a small bias than to an unbiased agent.

In recent years, the scientific community has become increasingly interested on peptides with non-canonical amino acids due to their superior stability and resistance to proteolytic degradation. These peptides present promising modifications to biological, pharmacological, and physiochemical attributes in both endogenous and engineered peptides. Notwithstanding their considerable advantages, the scientific community exhibits a conspicuous absence of an effective pre-trained model adept at distilling feature representations from such complex peptide sequences. We herein propose PepLand, a novel pre-training architecture for representation and property analysis of peptides spanning both canonical and non-canonical amino acids. In essence, PepLand leverages a comprehensive multi-view heterogeneous graph neural network tailored to unveil the subtle structural representations of peptides. Empirical validations underscore PepLand's effectiveness across an array of peptide property predictions, encompassing protein-protein interactions, permeability, solubility, and synthesizability. The rigorous evaluation confirms PepLand's unparalleled capability in capturing salient synthetic peptide features, thereby laying a robust foundation for transformative advances in peptide-centric research domains. Root Cause Analysis (RCA) is becoming increasingly crucial for ensuring the reliability of microservice systems. However, performing RCA on modern microservice systems can be challenging due to their large scale, as they usually comprise hundreds of components, leading significant human effort. This paper proposes TraceDiag, an end-to-end RCA framework that addresses the challenges for large-scale microservice systems. It leverages reinforcement learning to learn a pruning policy for the service dependency graph to automatically eliminates redundant components, thereby significantly improving the RCA efficiency. The learned pruning policy is interpretable and fully adaptive to new RCA instances. With the pruned graph, a causal-based method can be executed with high accuracy and efficiency. The proposed TraceDiag framework is evaluated on real data traces collected from the Microsoft Exchange system, and demonstrates superior performance compared to state-of-the-art RCA approaches. Notably, TraceDiag has been integrated as a critical component in the Microsoft M365 Exchange, resulting in a significant improvement in the system's reliability and a considerable reduction in the human effort required for RCA.

Advances on cryo-electron imaging technologies have led to a rapidly increasing number of density maps. Alignment and comparison of density maps play a crucial role in interpreting structural information, such as conformational heterogeneity analysis using global alignment and atomic model assembly through local alignment. Here, we propose a fast and accurate global and local cryo-electron microscopy density map alignment method CryoAlign, which leverages local density feature descriptors to capture spatial structure similarities. CryoAlign is the first feature-based EM map alignment tool, in which the employment of feature-based architecture enables the rapid establishment of point pair correspondences and robust estimation of alignment parameters. Extensive experimental evaluations demonstrate the superiority of CryoAlign over the existing methods in both alignment accuracy and speed.

Low-light image enhancement restores colors and details of single image and improves high-level visual tasks. However, restoring the lost details in the dark area is a challenge by only relying on the RGB domain. In this paper, we introduce frequency as a new clue into the network and propose a DCT-driven enhancement transformer (DEFormer) framework. First, we propose a learnable frequency branch (LFB) for frequency enhancement contains DCT processing and curvature-based frequency enhancement (CFE) to represent frequency features. In addition, we propose a cross domain fusion (CDF) for reducing the differences between the RGB domain and the frequency domain. Our DEFormer has achieved advanced results in both the LOL and MIT-Adobe FiveK datasets and improved the performance of dark detection.

With the fast-growing and evolving omics data, the demand for streamlined and adaptable tools to handle the analysis continues to grow. In response to this need, we introduce Auto Bioinformatics Analysis (AutoBA), an autonomous AI agent based on a large language model designed explicitly for conventional omics data analysis. AutoBA simplifies the analytical process by requiring minimal user input while delivering detailed step-by-step plans for various bioinformatics tasks. Through rigorous validation by expert bioinformaticians, AutoBA's robustness and adaptability are affirmed across a diverse range of omics analysis cases, including whole genome sequencing (WGS), RNA sequencing (RNA-seq), single-cell RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, and spatial transcriptomics. AutoBA's unique capacity to self-design analysis processes based on input data variations further underscores its versatility. Compared with online bioinformatic services, AutoBA deploys the analysis locally, preserving data privacy. Moreover, different from the predefined pipeline, AutoBA has adaptability in sync with emerging bioinformatics tools. Overall, AutoBA represents a convenient tool, offering robustness and adaptability for complex omics data analysis.

Mental health significantly influences various aspects of our daily lives, and its importance has been increasingly recognized by the research community and the general public, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. This heightened interest is evident in the growing number of publications dedicated to mental health in the past decade. In this study, our goal is to identify general trends in the field and pinpoint high-impact research topics by analyzing a large dataset of mental health research papers. To accomplish this, we collected abstracts from various databases and trained a customized Sentence-BERT based embedding model leveraging the BERTopic framework. Our dataset comprises 96,676 research papers pertaining to mental health, enabling us to examine the relationships between different topics using their abstracts. To evaluate the effectiveness of the model, we compared it against two other state-of-the-art methods: Top2Vec model and LDA-BERT model. The model demonstrated superior performance in metrics that measure topic diversity and coherence. To enhance our analysis, we also generated word clouds to provide a comprehensive overview of the machine learning models applied in mental health research, shedding light on commonly utilized techniques and emerging trends. Multi-modal fusion is increasingly being used for autonomous driving tasks, as different modalities provide unique information for feature extraction. However, the existing two-stream networks are only fused at a specific network layer, which requires a lot of manual attempts to set up. As the CNN goes deeper, the two modal features become more and more advanced and abstract, and the fusion occurs at the feature level with a large gap, which can easily hurt the performance. To reduce the loss of height and depth information during the process of projecting point clouds into 2D space, we utilize calibration parameters to project the point cloud into Altitude Difference Images (ADIs), which exhibit more distinct road features. In this study, we propose a novel fusion architecture called Skip-cross Networks (SkipcrossNets), which combine adaptively ADIs and camera images without being bound to a certain fusion epoch. Specifically, skip-cross fusion strategy connects each layer to each layer in a feed-forward manner, and for each layer, the feature maps of all previous layers are used as input and its own feature maps are used as input to all subsequent layers for the other modality, enhancing feature propagation and multi-modal features fusion. This strategy facilitates selection of the most similar feature layers from two modalities, enhancing feature reuse and providing complementary effects for sparse point cloud features. The advantages of skip-cross fusion strategy is demonstrated through application to the KITTI and A2D2 datasets, achieving a MaxF score of 96.85% on KITTI and an F1 score of 84.84% on A2D2. The model parameters require only 2.33 MB of memory at a speed of 68.24 FPS, which can be viable for mobile terminals and embedded devices.

Current object detection models have achieved good results on many benchmark datasets, detecting objects in dark conditions remains a large challenge. To address this issue, we propose a pyramid enhanced network (PENet) and joint it with YOLOv3 to build a dark object detection framework named PE-YOLO. Firstly, PENet decomposes the image into four components of different resolutions using the Laplacian pyramid. Specifically we propose a detail processing module (DPM) to enhance the detail of images, which consists of context branch and edge branch. In addition, we propose a low-frequency enhancement filter (LEF) to capture low-frequency semantics and prevent high-frequency noise. PE-YOLO adopts an end-to-end joint training approach and only uses normal detection loss to simplify the training process. We conduct experiments on the low-light object detection dataset ExDark to demonstrate the effectiveness of ours. The results indicate that compared with other dark detectors and low-light enhancement models, PE-YOLO achieves the advanced results, achieving 78.0% in mAP and 53.6 in FPS, respectively, which can adapt to object detection under different low-light conditions.
