Astrophysics - High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena - Abstract
We have carried out a systematic analysis of the gamma-ray bursts' (GRBs) light curves detected in the SPI-ACS experiment onboard the INTEGRAL observatory aimed to search extended emission. The emission occasionally recorded after the prompt active phase of a GRB in the form of an emission that is longer than the active phase and less intense is called the extended one. Out of the 739 brightest GRBs recorded from 2002 to 2017, extended emission has been detected in $\sim20\%$ of the individual light curves; its maximum duration reaches $\sim 10000$ s. Two different types of extended emission have been revealed. One of them is an additional component of the light curve and is described by a power law (PL) with an index $\alpha \sim -1$ close to the PL index of the afterglow in the optical and X-ray bands. The second type can be described by a steeper PL decay of the light curve typical of the active burst phase. Extended emission has also been found in the combined light curve of long GRBs in the individual curves of which no extended emission has been detected. The PL index of the extended emission in the combined light curve is $\alpha \sim -2.4$. It is most likely associated with the superposition of light curves at the active phase; its total duration is $\sim 800$ s.

High Energy Physics - Theory - Abstract
We consider an accelerated relativistic fluid in four-dimensional (anti-)de Sitter space-time. Analyzing only hydrodynamic equations, we construct the equilibrium stress-energy tensor. We confirm that (A)dS vacuum corresponds to a thermal bath in the accelerated frame with a temperature, depending on the acceleration in a flat higher-dimensional (namely, five-dimensional) space, in which curved space-times are embedded. We develop the duality between hydrodynamics and gravity finding a direct relationship between the transport coefficients in flat and curved space-times.

Abstract By analyzing e + e − annihilation data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.93 fb −1 collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector, the first observation of the semileptonic decays D 0 → K S 0 π − π 0 e + ν e $$ {D}^0\to {K}_S^0{\pi}^{-}{\pi}^0{e}^{+}{\nu}_e $$ and D + → K S 0 π + π − e + ν e $$ {D}^{+}\to {K}_S^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}{e}^{+}{\nu}_e $$ is reported. In the hypothesis that all events correspond to K 1(1270) decays, the branching fractions are measured to be B D 0 → K 1 1270 − → K S 0 π − π 0 e + ν e = 1.69 − 0.46 + 0.53 ± 0.15 × 10 − 4 $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}^0\to {K}_1{(1270)}^{-}\left(\to {K}_S^0{\pi}^{-}{\pi}^0\right){e}^{+}{\nu}_e\right)=\left({1.69}_{-0.46}^{+0.53}\pm 0.15\right)\times {10}^{-4} $$ and B D + → K ¯ 1 1270 0 → K S 0 π + π − e + ν e = 1.47 − 0.40 + 0.45 ± 0.14 × 10 − 4 $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}^{+}\to {\overline{K}}_1{(1270)}^0\left(\to {K}_S^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}\right){e}^{+}{\nu}^e\right)=\left({1.47}_{-0.40}^{+0.45}\pm 0.14\right)\times {10}^{-4} $$ with statistical significance of 5.4σ and 5.6σ, respectively. When combined with measurements of the K 1(1270) → K + π − π decays, the absolute branching fractions are determined to be B D 0 → K 1 1270 − e + ν e = 1.08 − 0.13 − 0.10 + 0.14 + 0.08 ± 0.21 × 10 − 3 $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}^0\to {K}_1{(1270)}^{-}{e}^{+}{\nu}_e\right)=\left({1.08}_{-0.13-0.10}^{+0.14+0.08}\pm 0.21\right)\times {10}^{-3} $$ and B D + → K ¯ 1 1270 0 e + ν e = 1.70 − 0.23 + 0.26 ± 0.13 ± 0.35 × 10 − 3 $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}^{+}\to {\overline{K}}_1{(1270)}^0{e}^{+}{\nu}_e\right)=\left({1.70}_{-0.23}^{+0.26}\pm 0.13\pm 0.35\right)\times {10}^{-3} $$ . The first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively, and the third uncertainties originate from the assumed branching fractions of the K 1(1270) → Kππ decays.

Abstract Using e + e − annihilation data sets corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.5 fb −1, collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.600 and 4.699 GeV, we report the first measurements of the absolute branching fractions B Λ c + → p K L 0 $$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_L^0\right) $$ = (1.67 ± 0.06 ± 0.04)%, B Λ c + → p K L 0 π + π − $$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_L^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}\right) $$ = (1.69 ± 0.10 ± 0.05)%, and B Λ c + → p K L 0 π 0 $$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_L^0{\pi}^0\right) $$ = (2.02 ± 0.13 ± 0.05)%, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. Abstract The processes h c → γP (P = η′, η, π 0) are studied with a sample of (27.12 ± 0.14) × 108 ψ(3686) events collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The decay h c → γη is observed for the first time with the significance of 9.0 σ, and the branching fraction is determined to be (3.77 ± 0.55 ± 0.13 ± 0.26) × 10 −4, while B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (h c → γη′) is measured to be (1.40 ± 0.11 ± 0.04 ± 0.10) × 10 −3, where the first uncertainties are statistical, the second systematic, and the third from the branching fraction of ψ(3686) → π 0 h c . The combination of these results allows for a precise determination of R h c = B h c → γη B h c → γ η ′ , $$ {R}_{h_c}=\frac{\mathcal{B}\left({h}_c\to {\pi}^0\gamma \eta \right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({h}_c\to {\pi}^0\gamma {\eta}^{\prime}\right)}, $$ which is calculated to be (27.0 ± 4.4 ± 1.0)%. The results are valuable for gaining a deeper understanding of η − η′ mixing, and its manifestation within quantum chromodynamics. No significant signal is found for the decay h c → γπ 0, and an upper limit is placed on its branching fraction of B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (h c → γπ 0) < 5.0 × 10 −5, at the 90% confidence level.

By chiral effects one understands manifestations of chiral gauge anomaly and of gravitational chiral anomaly in hydrodynamics. In recent two-three years our understanding of the chiral effects has considerably changed. Here we present mini-review of two topics. First, shift in understanding symmetry which underlies the chiral magnetic effect and, second, interpretation of the chiral kinematical effect uncovered recently., Comment: Contribution to: Infinite and Finite Nuclear Matter (INFINUM-2023)

Physics - Applied Physics - Abstract
The theory of multiplexing electromagnetic signals by means of twisted photons generated by a uniform circular array (UCA) is developed in the case when the receiving antenna represents an array of elements located on a circular arc. The radiating elements are characterized by certain current distributions and are not points, in general. The polarization of created electromagnetic waves is fully taken into account. The notion of discrete twisted photons of the order $N$ is introduced and orthogonality of these modes modulo $N$ is established. Both paraxial and planar discrete twisted photons are considered. The explicit expressions for the signals received are obtained. It is shown that, in the simplest scenario, a $K$ times decrease of the circular arc where the receiving array antenna is placed results in a $K$ times decrease of the number of independent information channels. In the more sophisticated approach, one can restore all $N\gg1$ independent information channels in receiving the signal by an array antenna with $N$ elements located on a circular arc with the central angle $2\pi/K$. However, this problem becomes rapidly ill-conditioned as one increases $K$. The method mitigating this issue is described. The estimates for the corresponding condition numbers are found. The scenario with beam steering, where the radiation produced by the UCA is concentrated near the receiving circular arc array antenna, is also investigated. The orthogonality of the information channels is proved in this case and the corresponding transformation matrix and its condition number are found., Comment: 17 pp., 3 figs; fourth method of multiplexing added

All types of immune cells are involved in the pathogenesis of multiple myeloma (MM). Granulocytic (G-MDSCs) and monocytic myeloid-derived suppressor cells (M-MDSCs) have significant protumor effects. The T cell immune response may be reduced due to the development of T cell exhaustion, characterized by the expression of inhibitory receptors PD-1, TIM-3, etc. Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) supports the generation and expansion of MDSCs and can influence the functional properties of T cells. The purpose of our work was to investigate the possible effect of stimulation with G-CSF drugs on the induction of PD-1 and TIM-3 expression by T cells in patients with MM. The study included 40 patients with MM who underwent mobilization of hematopoietic progenitor cells with G-CSF drugs (5 mcg/kg/day) for 4-5 days. Content of CD4+PD-1+, CD4+TIM-3+, CD8+PD-1+, CD8+TIM-3+T cells, Lin-HLA-DR-CD33+CD66b+G-MDSCs, and CD14+HLA-DR-M-MDSCs was assessed before the start of a course of G-CSF injections (n = 33), after a course of G-CSF on the first day of separation of hematopoietic progenitor cells (n = 28) and after 3-6 months (n = 40) by flow cytometry. The relative content of G-MDSCs and M-MDSCs was significantly higher in patients with MM after a course of G-CSF. After 3-6 months, the content of G-MDSCs and M-MDSCs decreased to the initial values. After the course of G-CSF, an increase in the content of CD4+PD-1+T cells was noted compared to the values before the study. After 3-6 months, the content of this population did not differ from the initial values. The relative numbers of CD4+TIM-3+, CD8+PD-1+, and CD8+TIM-3+T cells did not change after a course of G-CSF. There were no significant correlations between the content of the populations of MDSCs and T cells expressing PD-1 and TIM-3 after a course of G-CSF.Mobilization of hematopoietic stem cells by G-CSF in patients with MM is accompanied by a transient increase in MM populations and an isolated increase in CD4+PD-1+T cells.

Abstract Using e + e − collision data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies between 3.510 and 4.914 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 25 fb −1, we measure the Born cross sections for the process e + e − → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ at thirty-five energy points with a partial-reconstruction strategy. By fitting the dressed cross sections of e + e − → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ , evidence for ψ 4160 → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ $$ \psi (4160)\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda $$ is found for the first time with a significance of 4.4σ, including systematic uncertainties. No evidence for other possible resonances is found. In addition, the products of electronic partial width and branching fraction for all assumed resonances decaying into K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 $$ {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ are determined.

Atmospheric deposition is an important source of marine metallic elements, which have a non-negligible impact on marine ecology. Trace metals from different sources undergo their respective transport processes in the atmosphere, ultimately depositing into the ocean. This study aims to provide gridded data on sea-wide concentrations, deposition fluxes, and soluble deposition fluxes with detailed source categories of metals using the modified Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) model. A monthly emission inventory of six metals – Fe, Al, V, Ni, Zn, and Cu – from terrestrial anthropogenic, ship, and dust sources in East Asia (0–55° N, 85–150° E) in 2017 was developed. Most metals came primarily from land-based sources, contributing over 80 %. The annual marine atmospheric deposition fluxes of Fe, Al, V, Ni, Zn, and Cu were 8827.0, 13 384.3, 99.3, 82.4, 162.7, and 86.5 µg m−2, respectively, and the corresponding soluble deposition fluxes were 634.3, 1701.6, 74.3, 46.1, 113.0, and 42.0 µg m−2. The contributions of each source of trace metals varied in emissions, atmospheric concentrations, and depositions. Dust sources, as a main contributor of Fe and Al, accounted for a higher proportion of emissions (∼90 %) than marine deposition fluxes (∼20 %). However, anthropogenic sources have larger shares of the marine deposition flux compared with emissions. The deposition of Zn, Cu, and soluble Fe in East Asian seas was dominated by terrestrial anthropogenic sources, while V and Ni were dominated by shipping. The identification of the dominant source of metal deposition offers a foundation for dynamic assessments of the marine ecological effects of atmospheric trace metals. The source-resolved seasonal gridded data make it possible to calculate the soluble metal deposition flux on a source-by-source basis.

Active faults serve as potential sources of destructive earthquakes. Studies and investigations of active faults are necessary for earthquake disaster prevention. This study presents a nation-scale database of active faults in China and its adjacent regions, in tandem with an associated web-based query system. This database is an updated version of the active faults data included in the Seismotectonic Map of China and its Adjacent Regions (1:4 000 000), which is one of the four essential maps of the mandatory Chinese standard GB 18306-2015 Seismic Ground Motion Parameter Zonation Maps of China. The data update and integration stem from regional-scale studies and surveys conducted over the past 2 decades (at reference scales from 1:250 000 to 1:50 000). The information amassed from these regional-scale studies and surveys encompasses geophysical probing, drill logging, measurement of offset landforms, sample dating, as well as geometric and kinematic parameters of exposed and blind faults, paleo-earthquake sequences, and recurrence intervals. These data have been acquired and analyzed utilizing a uniform technical standard framework and reviewed by expert panels in both field and laboratory settings. Our system hosts this nation-scale database accessible through a Web Geographic Information System (GIS) application, enabling browsing, querying, and downloading functionalities via a web browser. The system we built also publishes the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Web Feature Service and the OGC Web Map Service of active faults data. Users can incorporate map layers and obtain fault data in OGC-compliant GIS software for further analysis through these services. The Chinese government, research institutions, and companies have widely used the active faults data from the previous versions of the database. The database is available at https://doi.org/10.12031/activefault.china.400.2023.db (Xu, 2023) and via the web system (https://data.activetectonics.cn/arcportal/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=684737e8849c4170bbca14447608c451, CEFIS, 2023; http://data.activetectonics.cn/arcserver/services/Hosted/CAFD400_2022_WFS/MapServer/WFSServer, CAFD WFS, 2024).

Abstract With a sample of (10087 ± 44) × 106 J/ψ events accumulated with the BESIII detector, we analyze the decays η′ → π + π − l + l − (l = e, μ) via the process J/ψ → γη′. The branching fractions are measured to be B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (η′ → π + π − e + e − ) = (2.45 ± 0.02(stat.) ± 0.08(syst.)) × 10 −3 and B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (η′ → π + π − μ + μ − ) = (2.16 ± 0.12(stat.) ± 0.06(syst.)) × 10 −5, and the ratio is B η ′ → π + π − e + e − B η ′ → π + π − μ + μ − = 113.4 ± 0.9 stat . ± 3.7 syst . $$ \frac{\mathcal{B}\left({\eta}^{\prime}\to {\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}{e}^{+}{e}^{-}\right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({\eta}^{\prime}\to {\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}{\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right)}=113.4\pm 0.9\left(\textrm{stat}.\right)\pm 3.7\left(\textrm{syst}.\right) $$ . In addition, by combining the η′ → π + π − e + e − and η′ → π + π − μ + μ − decays, the slope parameter of the electromagnetic transition form factor is measured to be b η′ = 1.30 ± 0.19 (GeV/c 2) −2, which is consistent with previous measurements from BESIII and theoretical predictions from the VMD model. The asymmetry in the angle between the π + π − and l + l − decay planes, which has the potential to reveal the CP-violation originating from an unconventional electric dipole transition, is also investigated. The asymmetry parameters are determined to be A CP η ′ → π + π − e + e − = − 0.21 ± 0.73 stat . ± 0.01 syst . % $$ {\mathcal{A}}_{CP}\left({\eta}^{\prime}\to {\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}{e}^{+}{e}^{-}\right)=\left(-0.21\pm 0.73\left(\textrm{stat}.\right)\pm 0.01\left(\textrm{syst}.\right)\right)\% $$ and A CP η ′ → π + π − μ + μ − = 0.62 ± 4.71 stat . ± 0.08 syst . % $$ {\mathcal{A}}_{CP}\left({\eta}^{\prime}\to {\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}{\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right)=\left(0.62\pm 4.71\left(\textrm{stat}.\right)\pm 0.08\left(\textrm{syst}.\right)\right)\% $$ , implying that no evidence of CP-violation is observed at the present statistics. Finally, an axion-like particle is searched for via the decay η′ → π + π − a, a → e + e − , and upper limits of the branching fractions are presented for the mass assumptions of the axion-like particle in the range of 0 − 500 MeV/c 2.

Abstract We measured the Born cross sections for the process e + e − → ωη′ at 22 center-of-mass energies from 2.000 to 3.080 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. We observed a resonant structure with a statistical significance of 9.6σ. A Breit-Wigner fit determines its mass to be M R = (2153 ± 30 ± 31) MeV/c 2 and its width to be Γ R = (167 ± 77 ± 7) MeV, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic.

Introduction. Post-coital cystitis is not a separate nosologic unit, but belongs to recurrent urinary tract infection. Surgical interventions are only recommended in cases where conservative treatment fails to provide relief.Objective. To evaluate the results of post-coital cystitis prophylaxis in urethral transposition.Materials & methods. A retrospective study of 46 patients who underwent surgical treatment in the volume of transposition of the distal urethra from 2011 to 2013 was conducted in the clinic of Urology of MSUMD based on the Spasokukotsky Moscow Clinical Hospital.Results. Based on subjective reports from patients, urethral transposition was found to be effective in 71.7% of cases. Half of the participants reported no recurrence of cystitis within the past year, and over half (67%) reported no inflammatory episodes after undergoing surgery.Conclusion. The findings suggest that urethral transposition is an effective and relatively safe treatment option for patients with post-coital cystitis who have failed to respond to conservative treatments.

Abstract Using e + e − collision data collected at the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.33 fb −1, we determine the absolute branching fractions of fifteen hadronic D s + $$ {D}_s^{+} $$ decays with a double-tag technique. In particular, we make precise measurements of the branching fractions B D s + → K + K − π + = 5.49 ± 0.04 ± 0.07 % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}^{+}{K}^{-}{\pi}^{+}\right)=\left(5.49\pm 0.04\pm 0.07\right)\% $$ , B D s + → K S 0 K + = 1.50 ± 0.01 ± 0.01 % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}_S^0{K}^{+}\right)=\left(1.50\pm 0.01\pm 0.01\right)\% $$ and B D s + → K + K − π + π 0 = 5.50 ± 0.05 ± 0.11 % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}^{+}{K}^{-}{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^0\right)=\left(5.50\pm 0.05\pm 0.11\right)\% $$ , where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic. The CP asymmetries in these decays are also measured and all are found to be compatible with zero.

Abstract Using (27.12 ± 0.14) × 108 ψ(3686) events collected by the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy of s $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 3.686 GeV, we search for the first time for two nonleptonic hyperon decays that change strangeness by two units, Ω − → Σ0 π − and Ω − → nK − . No significant signal is observed. The upper limits on their decay branching fractions are determined to be B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (Ω − → Σ0 π − ) < 5.4 × 10 −4 and B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (Ω − → nK − ) < 2.4 × 10 −4 at the 90% confidence level.

This paper describes the three-dimensional variational (3D-Var) data assimilation (DA) system for the Model for Prediction Across Scales – Atmosphere with the Joint Effort for Data assimilation Integration (JEDI-MPAS). Its core element is a multivariate background error covariance implemented through multiple linear variable changes, including a wind variable change from stream function and velocity potential to zonal- and meridional-wind components, a vertical linear regression representing wind–mass balance, and multiplication by a diagonal matrix of error standard deviations. The univariate spatial correlations for the “unbalanced” variables utilize the Background error on Unstructured Mesh Package (BUMP), which is one of the generic components in the JEDI framework. The variable changes and univariate correlations are modeled directly on the native MPAS unstructured mesh. BUMP provides utilities to diagnose parameters of the covariance model, such as correlation lengths, from an ensemble of forecast differences, though some manual adjustment of the parameters is necessary because of mismatches between the univariate correlation function assumed by BUMP and the correlation structure in the sample of forecast differences. The resulting multivariate covariances, as revealed by single-observation tests, are qualitatively similar to those found in previous global 3D-Var systems. Month-long cycling DA experiments using a global quasi-uniform 60 km mesh demonstrate that 3D-Var, as expected, performs somewhat worse than a pure ensemble-based covariance, while a hybrid covariance, which combines that used in 3D-Var with the ensemble covariance, significantly outperforms both 3D-Var and the pure ensemble covariance. Due to its simple workflow and minimal computational requirements, the JEDI-MPAS 3D-Var system can be useful for the research community.

Abstract Using 24.1 fb −1 of e + e − collision data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the Born cross sections and effective form factors of the e + e − → Σ + Σ ¯ − $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {\Sigma}^{+}{\overline{\Sigma}}^{-} $$ reaction are measured. The measurements are performed at center-of-mass energies ranging from 3.510 to 4.951 GeV. No significant evidence for the decay of the charmonium(-like) states, ψ(3770), ψ(4040), ψ(4160), Y(4230), Y(4360), ψ(4415), and Y(4660), into a Σ + Σ ¯ − $$ {\Sigma}^{+}{\overline{\Sigma}}^{-} $$ final state is observed. Consequently, upper limits for the products of the branching fractions and the electronic partial widths at the 90% confidence level are reported for these decays.

Science - Abstract
Abstract The path of tokamak fusion and International thermonuclear experimental reactor (ITER) is maintaining high-performance plasma to produce sufficient fusion power. This effort is hindered by the transient energy burst arising from the instabilities at the boundary of plasmas. Conventional 3D magnetic perturbations used to suppress these instabilities often degrade fusion performance and increase the risk of other instabilities. This study presents an innovative 3D field optimization approach that leverages machine learning and real-time adaptability to overcome these challenges. Implemented in the DIII-D and KSTAR tokamaks, this method has consistently achieved reactor-relevant core confinement and the highest fusion performance without triggering damaging bursts. This is enabled by advances in the physics understanding of self-organized transport in the plasma edge and machine learning techniques to optimize the 3D field spectrum. The success of automated, real-time adaptive control of such complex systems paves the way for maximizing fusion efficiency in ITER and beyond while minimizing damage to device components.
