The data-driven modular deep fuzzy model has demonstrated excellent forecasting performance due to its clear architecture and powerful fuzzy inference ability. However, the fixed structure predesigned for specific types of datasets limits the further improvement of generalization ability, especially when facing high-dimensional datasets with the challenging problem of rule explosion, thereby suffering from the time-consuming training process. To overcome these limitations, a novel randomized fuzzy modules (RFMs) stacked residual deep fuzzy system (RFM-RDFS) is proposed in this study. Firstly, to obtain high-precision outputs, this paper presents a residual deep fuzzy framework by stacking RFMs layer by layer, where the modules in the current layer only learn the residual of the previous layer. Secondly, to improve the design freedom for different applications, the RFM with multiple inputs is raised, where the input variables are allocated by a sliding window along the input spaces of the layers, so the number of the parallel modules in the same layer can be flexibly adjusted. Meanwhile, in the RFM, inspired by the extreme learning machine, the centers and widths of Gaussian membership functions are randomly generated, which can greatly accelerate the training speed. Thirdly, to strengthen the approximation performance, the consequent parameters of the fuzzy rules in each RFM are learned by minimizing the loss function with the regularization terms through the ridge regression algorithm. Finally, extensive experiments on various datasets are conducted to compare the proposed RFM-RDFS with several state-of-the-art shallow and deep models. Ensemble analysis is proven to provide advantages in climate change impact assessment based on outputs from climate models. Ensembled series are shown to outperform single-model assessments through increased consistency and stability. This study aims to test the improvement of precipitation estimates through the use of ensemble analysis for south and southwestern Turkey which is known to have complex climatic features due to varying topography and interacting climate forcings. The analysis covers an evaluation of the performance of eight regional climate models (RCMs) from the EUR-11 domain available from the CORDEX database. The historical outputs are evaluated for their representativeness of the current climate of the Mediterranean region and its surroundings in Turkey through a comparison with long-term monthly precipitation time series obtained from ground-based precipitation observations by the use of statistical performance indicators and Taylor diagrams. This is followed by a comparative evaluation of three ensemble methodologies, simple average of the models, multiple linear regression for superensemble, and artificial neural networks (ANN). The analysis results show that the overall performance of ensembled time series is better compared to individual RCMs. ANN generally provided the best performance when all RCMs are used as inputs. Improvement in the performance of ensembling due to the use of nonlinear models is further confirmed by fuzzy inference systems (FIS). Both ANN and FIS generated monthly precipitation time series with higher correlations with those of observations. However, extreme events are poorly represented in the ensembled time series, and this may result in inefficiency in the design of various water structures such as spillways and storm water drainage systems that are based on high return period events. This paper proposes an adaptive optimal control strategy of finite-time control for high-order uncertain strict-feedback nonlinear systems. Firstly, a reinforcement learning (RL) based an optimal control scheme is employed to design a optimal controller, to achieve global optimisation. Additionally, considering the unmeasurable states, we construct a fuzzy observer and utilise fuzzy logic systems to approximate the unknown functions. Meanwhile, the inclusion of command filtering and time-based control simplifies the controller design and enhances the system's response rapidity. Aim: Ongoing climate change is presently influencing the distribution ranges of numerous species, with both range expansions and latitudinal shifts being observed. In southern Europe, a biogeographical border that separates African and European biota, while at the same time acting as a migration bridge for many species, these changes are of particular relevance. This study aimed to analyse the responses of nine typically African birds to climate change to provide information on the ongoing and future occupation of Europe by these species. Location: Western Palearctic and surrounding areas. Methods: To this end, the distributions of the species in their native ranges were modelled, both in the present and in future climate scenarios, using their current breeding ranges and a set of topographic and climatic variables. The climatic favourability for the nine species was then combined using fuzzy logic. Results: The results showed that southern Europe is highly favourable for our set of African birds, except for Rüppell's Vulture, and future forecasts indicated that this favourability would increase further north, again excluding the African Vulture. Main conclusions: If the climate continues to warm, further arrivals of individuals are to be expected, increasing the possibility that self‐sustaining populations may become established in southern Europe. Furthermore, new African species may start to occupy this area, with the likelihood of an Africanisation of the European fauna. Considering the role played by southern Europe as a potential focal point for the colonisation of this continent by African species, it is important to track their northward expansion and future spread. This study addresses the gap between laboratory-focused welding process parameter identification and their practical application in the industry. Unlike traditional input–output mapping reported in the literature, determining acceptable input process parameters in industry hinges on the acceptable threshold for imperfections. The research aims to devise an artificial intelligence system capable of forecasting acceptable parameters for robotic gas metal arc welding, aligning with the quality standards outlined in AWS B4.0:2016 and BS EN ISO 5817:2014. Parameters, including wire feed rate, travel speed, contact tip to work distance, and electrode work angle, are considered in the prediction model. Throat thickness and joint penetration are critical responses for weldments involving 2-mm-, 4-mm-, and 6-mm-thick 4130 steel plates. The fuzzy model achieves effective defuzzification by employing fuzzy expert rules, triangular membership functions, and the centroid area method via the MATLAB fuzzy logic toolbox. The models are rigorously validated through experimental work. Two parameters, voltage and frequency, are required for smooth delivery of quality power to consumer. Therefore, in this paper enhancement of frequency and voltage stability of multi microgrid system with a proposed hybrid fuzzy logic controller with two-degree of freedom tilt-integral derivative with filter (2DOFTIDFFUZZY) are analyzed. A novel algorithm known as artificial electric field algorithm (AEFA) technique is employed to obtain optimal controller parameters. Firstly, a two-area system widely used in literature is considered for proper comparison. Efficacy of 2DOFTIDFFUZZY controller is confirmed by comparing it with different controllers for the same system. Further, a multi microgrid system is considered for unified voltage-frequency control. Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) effect states a substantial improvement in system dynamics with the proposed controller. Under different unfavorable conditions like source and load variation, dynamic system performances are studied to enlighten robustness of proposed controller. Fuel management is an important issue in aviation for safety and efficiency reasons. This work develops an alternative solution based on an artificial intelligent technique to the fuel distribution management problem in commercial aircrafts. The fuel flow control amongst tanks during the flight is addressed. A fuzzy management system is implemented that decides the best fuel distribution based on safety criteria (keeping engines fed) and dynamic stability (placing the centre of gravity at the appropriate position), amongst other specifications. Expert knowledge is used to define the rules of the fuel fuzzy control, taking into account that the dynamics of the system changes, whilst fuel is being consumed. It has been simulated on a real long‐range‐type commercial aircraft with satisfactory results regarding stability, even in the case of internal malfunction (in pipes, pumps, or valves), and with external disturbances (engine failure). The knowledge‐based fuzzy control is able to maintain the centre of gravity position within the stability and manoeuvrability margins along the flight. Assessing the spatial distribution of the erosion process is considered a critical initial step to provide valuable insights to decision-makers for devising an effective erosion mitigation strategy to reduce erosion damages. This research was conducted based on a revised universal soil loss equation (RUSLE) model integrated with the geographic information environment (GIS) within the Wadi El Ghareg watershed located in the Menzel Bourguiba region in northeastern Tunisia to simulate the spatial distribution of erosion across the basin which has been experiencing adverse effects of climate change, characterized by periods of drought and heavy rainfall. The RUSLE incorporates several variables, including rainfall erosivity (R), soil erodibility (K), cover management (C), slope length (LS), and conservation practices (P), serving as key predisposition parameters in this research. For the validation process of the applied model, 200 points were selected to create an inventory map; the points were selected based on satellite images and field surveys. The obtained thematic maps were normalized by fuzzy logic and overlaid using the model equation in the GIS. The results identified the most severely eroded areas requiring immediate erosion control measures. Hence, the results reveal that about 1.71% of the area is covered under severe erosion risk, 0.13% area under high erosion risk, 0.26% area under moderate erosion risk, 0.27% area under low erosion risk, and 97.63% of the area under very low erosion risk. The accuracy of the model was evaluated based on the receiver operating characteristic curves (ROC) and the areas under the curves (AUC). The result showed that this model had an excellent predictive accuracy for soil erosion susceptibility, with AUC values of 0.967. The final produced map will be used as a basis for suggesting a framework that can help make practical policy recommendations to fight against erosion in the context of sustainable management of the watershed. This study aims to peak power shaving and reduce the cost of energy by using improved energy management system (EMS) in a microgrid. This study has three scenarios. In the first scenario, the EV charging station and the wind turbine operate standalone. In the second scenario, a microgrid structure including an energy storage system (ESS) and an EMS is established. The threshold algorithm has been used for the energy management. In the last scenario, fuzzy logic-based EMS is used for energy management. The impact of EV charge station and wind turbine on the grid and the cost of energy are analyzed for three scenarios. The results show that the use of microgrid-connected ESS significantly reduces the cost of energy and creates a more balanced load for the grid side. It is also proved that the EMS affects the energy losses. It is revealed that when the proposed fuzzy logic-based EMS is used, the energy cost is reduced by 78% and the peak power is reduced by 70%. Thus, it is seen that the proposed EMS successfully reduces both the cost of energy and the negative impact of EVs on the grid by balancing grid side load. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Failure mode effects and criticality analysis (FMECA) is widely employed across industries to recognize and reduce possible failures. Despite its extensive usage, FMECA encounters challenges in decision‐making. In this paper, a new fuzzy resilience‐based RPN model is created to develop the FMECA method. The fuzzy model transcends the limitations associated with traditional risk priority number calculations by incorporating factors beyond frequency, severity, and detection. This extension includes considerations impacting system cost, sustainability, and safety, providing a more comprehensive risk assessment. In addition, to create trust in decision‐makers, a robust assessment approach is suggested, integrating three methodologies. In the initial phase, the fuzzy analytical hierarchy process and the grey relation analysis method are used to determine the subjective weights of different risk factors and resolve the flaws associated with the deficiency of constructed fuzzy inference rules. In the second phase, an entropy method is applied to handle the uncertainty of individual weightage calculated and capture different conflicting experts' views. The suggested approach is validated through a case study involving a gas turbine. The results demonstrate significant differences in failure mode prioritization between different approaches. The introduction of MTTR addresses critical shortcomings in traditional FMECA, enhancing predictive capabilities. Furthermore, the hybrid approach improved criticality assessment and failure mode ranking, classifying failure modes into fifteen categories, aiding decision‐making, and applying appropriate risk mitigation measures. Interest in logics with some notion of real-valued truths has existed since at least Boole and has been increasing in AI due to the emergence of neuro-symbolic approaches, though often their logical inference capabilities are characterized only qualitatively. We provide foundations for establishing the correctness and power of such systems. We introduce a rich class of multidimensional sentences, with a sound and complete axiomatization that can be parameterized to cover many real-valued logics, including all the common fuzzy logics, and extend these to weighted versions, and to the case where the truth values are probabilities. Our multidimensional sentences form a very rich class. Each of our multidimensional sentences describes a set of possible truth values for a collection of formulas of the real-valued logic, including which combinations of truth values are possible. Our completeness result is strong, in the sense that it allows us to derive exactly what information can be inferred about the combinations of truth values of a collection of formulas given information about the combinations of truth values of a finite number of other collections of formulas. We give a decision procedure based on linear programming for deciding, for certain real-valued logics and under certain natural assumptions, whether a set of our sentences logically implies another of our sentences. The generality of this work, compared to many previous works on special cases, may provide insights for both existing and new real-valued logics whose inference properties have never been characterized. We introduce a new approach for automated guideline-based-care quality assessment, the bidirectional knowledge-based assessment of compliance (BiKBAC) method, and the DiscovErr system, which implements it. Our methodology compares the guideline's Asbru-based formal representation, including its intentions, with the longitudinal medical record, using a top-down and bottom-up approach. Partial matches are resolved using fuzzy temporal logic. The system was evaluated in the type 2 Diabetes management domain, comparing it to three expert clinicians, including two diabetes experts. The system and the experts commented on the management of 10 patients, randomly selected from 2,000 diabetes patients. On average, each record spanned 5.23 years; the data included 1,584 medical transactions. The system provided 279 comments. The experts made 181 different unique comments. The completeness (recall) of the system was 91% when the gold standard was comments made by at least two of the three experts, and 98%, compared to comments made by all three experts. The experts also assessed all of the 114 medication-therapy-related comments, and a random 35% of the 165 tests-and-monitoring-related comments. The system's correctness (precision) was 81%, compared to comments judged as correct by both diabetes experts, and 91%, compared to comments judged as correct by one diabetes expert and at least as partially correct by the other. 89% of the comments were judged as important by both diabetes experts, 8% were judged as important by one expert, and 3% were judged as less important by both experts. Adding the validated system comments to the experts' comments, the completeness scores of the experts were 75%, 60%, and 55%; the expert correctness scores were respectively 99%, 91%, and 88%. Thus, the system could be ranked first in completeness and second in correctness. We conclude that systems such as DiscovErr can effectively assess the quality of continuous guideline-based care. The rapidly expanding Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) landscape fosters enormous opportunities for personalized healthcare, yet it also exposes patients and healthcare systems to diverse security threats. Heterogeneous IoMT devices present challenges that need comprehensive risk assessment due to their varying functionality, protocols, and vulnerabilities. Hence, to achieve the goal of having risk-free IoMT devices, the authors used a hybrid approach using fuzzy logic and the Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (FAHP) to evaluate risks, providing effective and useful results for developers and researchers. The presented approach specifies qualitative descriptors such as the frequency of occurrence, consequence severity, weight factor, and risk level. A case study with risk events in three different IoMT devices was carried out to illustrate the proposed method. We performed a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) attack on an oximeter, smartwatch, and smart peak flow meter to discover their vulnerabilities. Using the FAHP method, we calculated fuzzy weights and risk levels, which helped us to prioritize criteria and alternatives in decision-making. Smartwatches were found to have a risk level of 8.57 for injection attacks, which is of extreme importance and needs immediate attention. Conversely, jamming attacks registered the lowest risk level of 1, with 9 being the maximum risk level and 1 the minimum. Based on this risk assessment, appropriate security measures can be implemented to address the severity of potential threats. The concept of complex fuzzy sets, where the unit disk of the complex plane acts as the codomain of the membership function, as an extension of fuzzy sets. The objective of this article is to use complex fuzzy sets in BCK/BCI-algebras. We present the concept of a complex fuzzy subalgebra in a BCK/BCI-algebra and explore their properties. Furthermore, we discuss the modal and level operators of these complex fuzzy subalgebras, highlighting their importance in BCK/BCI-algebras. We study various operations, and the laws of a complex fuzzy system, including union, intersection, complement, simple differences, and bounded differences of complex fuzzy ideals within BCK/BCI-algebras. Nonlinear loads, crucial components of power system grids, pose a challenge due to harmonics injection. This work tackles this issue with a novel modified green plug–switched filter compensation scheme using fuzzy logic controllers. This innovative scheme presented in this paper utilizes dual action pulse width modulation to ensure switching functions from harmonics reduction and capacitive compensation for inrush nonlinear-type AC loads. The scheme's multi-loop regulations and online switching effectively handle dynamic-type slow-acting inrush, motorized- and other rectifier-type nonlinear loads, enhancing the power factor, power quality at source and load buses, and reducing the total harmonics distortion at the key source and sensitive nonlinear load buses. A simulation model in the MATLAB/SIMULINK-2023b software environment demonstrates the efficiency of the proposed FACTS technique. The modulated dual mode switched filter-capacitive compensation scheme controlled by a fuzzy logic controller ensures less harmonics distortion and improved voltage stabilization. The results show that voltage, current, active power, reactive power, power factor regulation, and effective energy utilization are achievable with the designed Flexible AC Transmission System-Modulated Filter Capacitor Compensation–Switched Filter Compensator (FACTS-MFCC-SFC). Energy management strategies play a crucial role in enhancing the fuel efficiency of hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and mitigating greenhouse gas emissions. For the current commonly used time horizon optimization methods that only target the trend curve of the optimal battery state of charge (SOC) trajectory obtained offline, which are only suitable for buses with known future driving conditions, this paper proposed an energy management strategy based on an adaptive network-based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) that optimizes the time horizon length and enhances adaptability to driving conditions by integrating historical vehicle velocity, accelerations, and battery SOC trajectory. First, the vehicle velocity prediction model based on the radial basis function (RBF) neural network is used to predict the future velocity sequence. After that, ANFIS was used to optimize and update the length of the forecast time horizon based on the historical vehicle velocity sequence. Finally, compared with the fixed time horizon energy management strategy, which is based on model predictive control (MPC), the average calculation time of the energy management strategy is reduced by about 23.5%, and the fuel consumption per 100 km is reduced by about 6.12%. 3D integration is one of the scalable multiprocessor design solutions. The main challenge in 3D design is temperature traps, especially in the upper layers and hot spots. The current studies present solutions for solving temperature and hotspot problems in topology, routing, and mapping levels. Accordingly, the characteristics of temperature-aware core mapping are beneficial for dealing with the challenges of 3D chips. In this paper, the core temperature is modeled based on processing, communication power, neighbor node temperature, distance from the heat sink, and hotspot node. To find the optimal solution, this paper proposes thermal-aware application mapping techniques using genetic algorithms and fuzzy logic to minimize peak temperatures in 3D network-on-chip (NoC) architectures. Fitness functions include the above parameters with the same weight (GSM) and the fitness function with fuzzy logic by considering the effect of distance from heat sink (GFM1) and heat sink distance and the number of neighbor's core (GFM2). Specifically, the fuzzy logic-based GFM1 algorithm demonstrates superior performance over the genetic algorithm-driven GSM approach in reducing power consumption and energy costs associated with inter-core communication traffic. Across the different traffic patterns tested, GFM1 consistently achieves lower energy expenditure, with reductions upward of 50% compared to GSM. This underlines the strengths of the fuzzy technique in enabling thermal-aware mapping to minimize chip temperatures in the presence of intensive workloads and communication. The advent of Internet of Things (IoT) in agriculture has revolutionized the way farmers monitor and manage their crops. IoT-enabled sensors can provide real-time data on various environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity, soil moisture, and crop growth, which can be used to make informed decisions and optimize crop yield. However, the vast amount of data generated by these sensors poses a significant challenge in terms of data processing and communication. To address this challenge, clustering is often used to group the sensors into clusters and elect a cluster head (CH) to communicate with the gateway node. The selection of an appropriate CH and the optimal path for data transmission are critical factors that affect the performance of the IoT system. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to optimize the CH selection and path selection using modified fuzzy logic, Whale optimization algorithm (WOA) and enhanced crow swarm optimization (ECSO). Fuzzy logic is used to evaluate the relevant parameters such as energy, distance, overhead, trust, and node degree to select the most suitable CH. ECSO is then employed to find the optimal path for data transmission based on the selected CH. We evaluate the proposed approach using simulation experiments in a smart agriculture scenario. The results show that the proposed approach outperforms existing approaches in terms of throughput, packet delivery ratio, delay, and energy efficiency. The proposed system demonstrates substantial advantages in terms of throughput, with a remarkable throughput value of 68 Mbps, outperforming the other methods, including EQSR (12.5 Mbps), E2S-DRL (60 Mbps), and OSEAP. The packet delivery ratio (PDR) is also significantly higher for the proposed system, reaching 90.9%. The proposed approach can significantly improve the performance of IoT-enabled smart agriculture systems, leading to better crop yield and higher profitability for farmers. The results of the simulation experiments demonstrate the superiority of the proposed approach over the existing one's throughput, packet delivery ratio (PDR), delay, and energy consumption efficiency is found in the result section. The brushless direct current motors have gained popularity among the emerging technologies due to their increased efficiency, speed of operation, and density of flux. This paper presents a novel technique for controlling the speed of the brushless direct current motor by using hybrid algorithms. The Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is combined with the Takagi Sugeno adaptive fuzzy interference system and gravitational search algorithms to analyze the speed control of the brushless DC electric motor (BLDC) motors. The proposed model has designed multiple outputs prototype for BLDC motor with Takagi Sugeno fuzzy logic. Since the adaptive fuzzy logic system has three outputs, the final output is evaluated as the average value of all the outputs using the LMS algorithm. The speed control of the Brushless DC motor has also been analyzed using a combination of the gravitational search algorithm and the PSO algorithm. The motor parameters taken under consideration for the analysis have been tabulated. The different results obtained at the end of this study have been demonstrated through graphs and tables. Summary In the last decades, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have appeared as an active research area owing to their high applicability in different application areas like healthcare, automation, and the military. In view of the input dead‐zone, unknown control direction and difficulty in satisfying the prescribed performance that suffered in practical systems, an improved prescribed performance‐based adaptive control scheme is stressed for uncertain nonlinear systems in this paper. Firstly, by adopting a characteristic function, the input dead‐zone is linearized to a model with bounded perturbation. To settle the "computation complexity" issue, an adaptive controller is built via command filter design method, where the fuzzy logic systems are introduced to approximate the unknown nonlinearities. Meanwhile, the Nussbaum function is brought in controller design to counter the hardship of unknown control direction. Besides, the tracking error can be restricted in the prescribed boundary in finite time with the improved performance function. The presented control approach can not only ensure the finite‐time convergence property of tracking error and the boundedness of all signals in the closed‐loop system, but also easily implement in engineering. This article investigates the issue of security‐based adaptive output feedback finite‐time fault‐tolerant control (FTC) for nonlinear multi‐agent systems subjected to Byzantine attacks. In this work, the fuzzy logic systems are employed to approximate the unknown nonlinearities, and unmeasurable states are estimated by the designed state observer. In addition, a data selector is designed to detect extremely malicious data of the controlled system. Summary: Internet of Things (IoT) applications have massively increased in the last few years. Future‐generation IoTs are going to be massive in number, heterogeneous in nature, and extremely demanding in terms of computation and communication requirements. Therefore, effective techniques are needed to optimize the use of scarce communication resources. This work proposes a novel multi‐objective framework to investigate the channel assignment problem in cognitive radio network (CRN)‐based IoT applications. The multi‐objective optimization framework comprises three objective functions. The first objective aims to maximize the overall system throughput fairness, the second objective aims to maximize the overall system residual energy, and the third objective aims to increase the user satisfaction level by maximizing the overall priority index. The problem of channel assignment is modeled and solved using Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) and ε‐constraint technique. This technique generates a set of Pareto efficient solutions, and an optimal solution among these solutions is selected using a fuzzy logic decision mechanism. Moreover, power level selection is incorporated by solving the problem multiple times for different power levels and obtaining a preferred solution for each power level. The simulations are conducted to unveil an interesting trade‐off between the conflicting system design objectives, that is, the overall throughput and the overall residual energy while incorporating the significance of primary user (PU) activity when preforming channel assignment in CRN. Based on Boolean logic, molecular keypad locks secure molecular information, typically with an optical output. Here we investigate a rare example of a molecular keypad lock with a chemical output. To this end, the light‐activated release of biologically important nitric oxide from a ruthenium complex is studied, using proton concentration and photon flux as inputs. In a pH‐dependent equilibrium, a nitritoruthenium(II) complex is turned into a nitrosylruthenium(II) complex, which releases nitric oxide under irradiation with visible light. The precise prediction of the output nitric oxide concentration as function of the pH and photon flux is achieved with an artificial intelligence approach, namely the adaptive neuro‐fuzzy inference system. In this manner an exceptionally high level of control over the output concentration is obtained. Fire incidences are classed as catastrophic events, which mean that persons may experience mental distress and trauma. The development of a robotic vehicle specifically designed for fire extinguishing purposes has significant implications, as it not only addresses the issue of fire but also aims to safeguard human lives and minimize the extent of damage caused by indoor fire occurrences. The primary goal of the AFRC is to undergo a metamorphosis, allowing it to operate autonomously as a specialized support vehicle designed exclusively for the task of identifying and extinguishing fires. Researchers have undertaken the tasks of constructing an autonomous vehicle with robotic capabilities, devising a universal algorithm to be employed in the robotic firefighting process, and designing a fuzzy controller algorithm that can be used in all expected scenarios. The use of a fuzzy logic algorithm in this design demonstrates the usefulness of this system, all factors are involved in which cases are previously identified and taught, as well as the overall map of the premises have been uploaded so that the system can identify the exact place of the fire source, and two types of fire have also been examined. When the performance of the foam pump, water pump, and robotic car motors is compared to the data from the flam sensor, temperature sensor and GPS data, it demonstrates a high responsiveness in terms of applying the appropriate approach based on the type of fire due to the probable action for which the system has been trained. This will have the benefit of shortening the required process for fire extinguishment and using the appropriate fire extinguishing tools. A lithium-ion battery–ultracapacitor hybrid energy storage system (HESS) has been recognized as a viable solution to address the limitations of single battery energy sources in electric vehicles (EVs), especially in urban driving conditions, owing to its complementary energy features. However, an energy management strategy (EMS) is required for the optimal performance of the HESS. In this paper, an EMS based on the particle swarm optimization (PSO) of the fuzzy logic controller (FLC) is proposed. It aims to minimize battery current and power peak fluctuations, thereby enhancing its capacity and lifespan, by optimizing the weights of formulated FLC rules using the PSO algorithm. This paper utilizes the battery temperature as the cost function in the optimization problem of the PSO due to the sensitivity of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) to operating temperature variations compared to ultracapacitors (UCs). An evaluation of optimized FLC using PSO and a developed EV model is conducted under the Urban Dynamometer Driving Schedule (UDDS) and compared with the unoptimized FLC. The result shows that 5.4% of the battery's capacity was conserved at 25.5 °C, which is the highest operating temperature attained under the proposed strategy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The current electricity default rates in continental countries, such as Brazil, pose risks to the economic stability and investment capabilities of distribution utilities. This situation results in higher electricity tariffs for regular customers. From a regulatory perspective, the key issue regarding this challenge is devising incentive mechanisms that reward distribution utilities for their operational and investment choices, aiming to mitigate or decrease electricity non-payment rates and avoid tariff increases for regular customers. Despite adhering to the principles of incentive regulation, the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL) uses a methodological approach to define regulatory targets for electricity defaults tied to econometric models developed to determine targets to combat electricity non-technical losses (NTLs). This methodology has been widely criticized by electricity distribution utilities and academics because it includes many ad hoc steps and fails to consider the components that capture the specificities and heterogeneity of distribution utilities. This study proposes a fuzzy inference-based model for defining regulatory default targets built independently of the current methodological approach adopted by ANEEL and aligned with the principles of incentive regulation. An empirical study focusing on the residential class of electricity consumption demonstrated that it is possible to adopt a specific methodology for determining regulatory default targets and that the fuzzy inference approach can meet the necessary premises to ensure that the principles of incentive regulation and the establishment of regulatory targets are consistent with the reality of each electricity distribution utility. Underwater acoustic sensor networks have a wide range of applications in both civil and military fields, but the complex and changing underwater environment makes them vulnerable to multiple security threats. Trust mechanisms are effective ways to enhance network security and reliability. In order to improve the accuracy of trust evaluation and the detection rate of abnormal nodes, this paper proposes an adaptive trust evaluation model based on fuzzy logic. This model adopts a variable weight fuzzy comprehensive evaluation algorithm to dynamically adjust the weights of three direct trust indicators to ensure the accuracy of direct trust evaluation. Then, it uses fuzzy closeness to eliminate unreliable recommendation trust and adjusts the weight of recommendation trust through deviation to improve the accuracy of indirect trust. The simulation results show that the model can effectively improve the accuracy of trust evaluation and the detection rate of abnormal nodes. Summary: In this article, the problem of fixed‐time distributed optimization is researched for third‐order fully heterogeneous nonlinear connected and autonomous vehicles. To address this problem, a fixed‐time distributed optimization algorithm is proposed via a two‐step strategy. First, an optimization algorithm is proposed to generate a virtual reference signal that can converge to the optimal solution. Then, we further construct an adaptive tracking controller to track the virtual signal based on the first step. In the design process of the controller, the virtual control variables and the actual control input are obtained by using the backstepping technique. Furthermore, a fast fixed‐time filter is introduced to avoid the issue of discontinuous gradient functions. Fuzzy logic systems are employed to address the unknown part of the nonlinear function. By using tools from the fixed‐time stability criterion, convex optimization theory, and Lyapunov stability theory, it can be demonstrated that the provided strategy drives all optimization variables to the optimal solution within a fixed time and guarantees the closed‐loop system signals are bounded. This paper presents the results of a study carried out to develop a multi-severity casualty approach for predicting the number of fatalities and two levels of injuries resulting from an earthquake. The two levels of injuries are severity 1, which do not require hospitalization, and severity 2, which do require hospitalization. The method provides a probability distribution of casualty, which can assist policymakers and disaster management authorities in developing emergency response plans. The proposed approach takes into account two main sources of uncertainty: variations in ground motion values (by generating thousands of shaking maps considering the spatial correlation of intra-event uncertainty) and uncertainty in casualty rates (by using the fuzzy set theorem and random sampling). As a case study, the proposed method was applied to the Mosha fault seismic scenario (7.4 Mw) in Tehran, Iran. The results indicated that 200,300 people may lose their lives in that seismic scenario. Additionally, the number of injuries with severity 1 and severity 2 are estimated to be about 420,600 and 232,980, respectively. These numbers exceed the healthcare capacity in Tehran. The estimated number of fatalities was then compared with the results of some existing empirical models in the literature. This comparison revealed that the empirical models underestimate the number of fatalities due to various reasons, such as a lack of strong earthquakes in urban areas to be included in empirical models. It also critiques the formal-deductive approach in legal practice and advocates for more adaptable models, incorporating fuzzy logic, non-monotonic defeasible reasoning, and artificial intelligence. The potential application of neural networks, specifically deep learning algorithms, in legal theory is also discussed. The article discusses how neural networks encode legal knowledge in their synaptic connections, while the syllogistic model condenses legal information into axioms. The article also highlights how neural networks assimilate novel experiences and exhibit evolutionary progression, unlike the deductive model of law. In this paper, an improved modular multilevel converter (MMC) current controller is proposed for grid current harmonic mitigation in solid-state transformers (SSTs), regardless of the non-linear or unbalanced load positions at the SST stages. The proposed MMC current controller is achieved using three control strategies based on the harmonic order and the harmonic sequence: a low-order harmonic compensator, a negative-sequence harmonic compensator for unbalanced control, and a high-order harmonic compensator based on an artificial neural network (ANN) controller, trained offline using a fuzzy logic (FL) controller. The use of such non-linear controllers for both training and control ensures an active filtering feature for the MMC controller. This makes the proposed solution a good alternative to solutions based on extra filters or an increased switching frequency, which inevitably increases the system costs and losses. The proposed control strategy is implemented and evaluated in MATLAB/Simulink software under various load conditions and parameter changes, and results from multiple simulations are presented. In the current landscape of renewable energy systems, optimizing the performance of power electronic converters is crucial for ensuring reliability. Within the realm of direct current (DC)–DC power converter systems, the differential power processing (DPP) converter holds promise. However, realizing its full potential requires meticulous system design, especially in response to varying solar irradiation levels. Poor design can result in performance degradation, leading to system damage and voltage instability due to sudden irradiation fluctuations. To address these challenges, this study investigates the performance optimization of a DPP converter enhanced with a modified switched inductor, tailored for solar photovoltaic applications. To overcome traditional control strategy limitations, we propose an innovative enhanced fuzzy logic controller (E-FLC). This controller's strength lies in its dynamic adaptability, achieved through variable duty cycle control, input parameters, membership functions, and output responses. This paper emphasizes methodological precision, particularly in applying the E-FLC to the modified switched inductor. The use of this controller significantly improves both steady-state and transient response performance compared to traditional switched inductors. It rigorously analyzes the responses of the DPP converter under steady-state and transient conditions, with and without the modified switched inductor. This analytical approach sheds light on a critical yet often overlooked aspect of photovoltaic systems. The core innovation driving this research is the adoption of the E-FLC, which outperforms the commonly used proportional–integral (PI) controller in steady-state performance and transient response characteristics. This paper goes beyond conventional converter optimization studies by introducing a holistic approach encompassing system dynamics, control strategy innovation, and performance evaluation. In this paper, a control-error-based decentralized neural network (NN) direct adaptive controller is presented for uncertain interconnected nonlinear systems, in strict-feedback form, subject to input saturation and external disturbances with unavailable states for measurement. Different from the existing results in the literature, the proposed approach is based on the control error instead of the tracking error resulting in a separation-like principle. Furthermore, the explosion of complexity due to back-stepping recursive design is completely avoided along with discarding all restrictive assumptions imposed on the unmatched interconnections. Actually, NNs are used to approximate the unknown ideal control laws, and auxiliary control terms are appended to deal with approximation errors and enhance the stability of the closed-loop system. Besides, fuzzy inference systems are introduced to estimate the unknown control errors, leading to simplified derivation of adaptive laws. Thanks to the strictly positive real (SPR) property, the tracking errors are proved to converge asymptotically to zero using Lyapunov theory, which is superior to bounded stability results usually found in the literature. A slew of economic, environmental, and social concerns has pushed policymakers and governments to embrace renewable energy (RE) technologies in order to ensure a sustainable energy future. RE technologies have a beneficial effect on the environment and social well-being. Therefore, this study presents a method for systematically determining and ranking the benefits of adopting RE technologies in remote areas and possible solutions. The present analysis is structured into four distinct levels. The benefits of RE technologies were identified through a comprehensive review of relevant literature. The Delphi technique was employed to reach a consensus and classify the advantages. Fourteen benefits were determined and classified according to seven primary criteria. Furthermore, the Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process was employed to determine the weights and rankings. The Fuzzy VIekriterijumsko KOmpromisno Rangiranje method was ultimately used to evaluate the potential alternatives. The integrated method result significantly reveals that the environmental criteria are the most critical factor, with a weight of (0.1727), and are followed by the quality of energy aspect, with a weight of (0.1617). Moreover, the global weights show that Sustainability is ranked highest, followed by Skill development, then the other sub-benefits within different categories. These two benefits have relative weights of (9.9164%) and (9.4924%), respectively. Furthermore, the most effective solution facilitating local and foreign investors was the most promising among the four recommended alternatives. The quote has proven that it benefits the government and policymakers in deploying RE technologies and resolving energy challenges in remote areas of developing nations like Pakistan.
