Magnetic skyrmions are topologically protected quasiparticles and have drawn much attention because of their potential applications in next-generation spintronics devices. Their inherent topological stability, nanoscale size, and efficient manipulation via spin currents make them promising candidates for high-density data storage and novel computing paradigms. We micromagnetically investigate the nucleation dynamics of magnetic skyrmion pairs excited underneath two 30 nm nanocontacts with varying separations on top of an extended Co/Pt bilayer thin film. At close separation of 100 nm, the magnetization configurations strongly interact, giving rise to the formation of stable merged skyrmion states. As the separation increases beyond 200 nm, topologically distinct metastable configurations emerge, including the coexistence of tunable skyrmion-antiskyrmion pairs through Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) strengths and current pulse amplitudes. These metastable states eventually relax into two stable skyrmions that can be independently toggled ON and OFF using a weak in-plane magnetic field, enabling complex logic operations and more flexible circuit designs. Beyond the fundamental interest in skyrmion interaction dynamics, the independent control of skyrmion-antiskyrmion states holds promise for next-generation spintronic devices, with potential applications in memory, logic, and computing.

We investigate the individual impacts of critical magnetodynamical parameters-effective magnetization and magnetic damping-on the auto-oscillation characteristics of nano-constriction-based Spin Hall Nano-Oscillators (SHNOs). Our micromagnetic simulations unveil a distinctive non-monotonic relationship between current and auto-oscillation frequency in out-of-plane magnetic fields. The influence of effective magnetization on frequency tunability varies with out-of-plane field strengths. At large out-of-plane fields, the frequency tunability is predominantly governed by effective magnetization, achieving a current tunability of 1 GHz/mA-four times larger than that observed at the lowest effective magnetization. Conversely, at low out-of-plane fields, although a remarkably high-frequency tunability of 4 GHz/mA is observed, the effective magnetization alters the onset of the transition from a linear-like mode to a spin-wave bullet mode. Magnetic damping primarily affects the threshold current with negligible impact on auto-oscillation frequency tunability. The threshold current scales linearly with increased magnetic damping at a constant out-of-plane field but exhibits a parabolic behavior with variations in out-of-plane fields. This behavior is attributed to the qualitatively distinct evolution of the auto-oscillation mode across different out-of-plane field values. Our study not only extends the versatility of SHNOs for oscillator-based neuromorphic computing with controllable frequency tunability but also unveils the intricate auto-oscillation dynamics in out-of-plane fields.

In the realm of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), accurate prediction of aerodynamic behaviour plays a pivotal role in aerofoil design and optimization. This study proposes a novel approach that synergistically combines autoencoders and Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) for the purpose of generating CFD results. Our innovative framework harnesses the intrinsic capabilities of autoencoders to encode aerofoil geometries into a compressed and informative 20-length vector representation. Subsequently, a conditional GAN network adeptly translates this vector into precise pressure-distribution plots, accounting for fixed wind velocity, angle of attack, and turbulence level specifications. The training process utilizes a meticulously curated dataset acquired from JavaFoil software, encompassing a comprehensive range of aerofoil geometries. The proposed approach exhibits profound potential in reducing the time and costs associated with aerodynamic prediction, enabling efficient evaluation of aerofoil performance. Nano-constriction based spin Hall nano-oscillators (SHNOs) are at the forefront of spintronics research for emerging technological applications such as oscillator-based neuromorphic computing and Ising Machines. However, their miniaturization to the sub-50 nm width regime results in poor scaling of the threshold current. Here, we show that current shunting through the Si substrate is the origin of this problem and study how different seed layers can mitigate it. We find that an ultra-thin Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$ seed layer and SiN (200 nm) coated p-Si substrates provide the best improvement, enabling us to scale down the SHNO width to a truly nanoscopic dimension of 10 nm, operating at threshold currents below 30 $\mu$A. In addition, the combination of electrical insulation and high thermal conductivity of the Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$ seed will offer the best conditions for large SHNO arrays, avoiding any significant temperature gradients within the array. Our state-of-the-art ultra-low operational current SHNOs hence pave an energy-efficient route to scale oscillator-based computing to large dynamical neural networks of linear chains or two-dimensional arrays., Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures

Mutual synchronization of N serially connected spintronic nano-oscillators increases their coherence by a factor $N$ and their output power by $N^2$. Increasing the number of mutually synchronized nano-oscillators in chains is hence of great importance for better signal quality and also for emerging applications such as oscillator-based neuromorphic computing and Ising machines where larger N can tackle larger problems. Here we fabricate spin Hall nano-oscillator chains of up to 50 serially connected nano-constrictions in W/NiFe, W/CoFeB/MgO, and NiFe/Pt stacks and demonstrate robust and complete mutual synchronization of up to 21 nano-constrictions, reaching linewidths of below 200 kHz and quality factors beyond 79,000, while operating at 10 GHz. We also find a square increase in the peak power with the increasing number of mutually synchronized oscillators, resulting in a factor of 400 higher peak power in long chains compared to individual nano-constrictions. Although chains longer than 21 nano-constrictions also show complete mutual synchronization, it is not as robust and their signal quality does not improve as much as they prefer to break up into partially synchronized states. The low current and low field operation of these oscillators along with their wide frequency tunability (2-28 GHz) with both current and magnetic fields, make them ideal candidates for on-chip GHz-range applications and neuromorphic computing., Comment: 9 Pages, 7 figures

Using micromagnetic simulations, we study the interplay between strongly voltage-controlled magnetic anisotropy (VCMA), $\Delta K = \pm$200 kJ/m$^3$, and gate width, $w=$ 10--400 nm, in voltage-gated W/CoFeB/MgO based nano-constriction spin Hall nano-oscillators. The VCMA modifies the local magnetic properties such that the magnetodynamics transitions between regimes of \emph{i}) confinement, \emph{ii}) tuning, and \emph{iii}) separation, with qualitatively different behavior. We find that the strongest tuning is achieved for gate widths of the same size as the the constriction width, for which the effective damping can be increased an order of magnitude compared to its intrinsic value. As a consequence, voltage control remains efficient over a very large frequency range, and subsequent manufacturing advances could allow SHNOs to be easily integrated into next-generation electronics for further fundamental studies and industrial applications.

Ferromagnetic materials dominate as the magnetically active element in spintronic devices, but come with drawbacks such as large stray fields, and low operational frequencies. Compensated ferrimagnets provide an alternative as they combine the ultrafast magnetization dynamics of antiferromagnets with a ferromagnet-like spin-orbit-torque (SOT) behavior. However to use ferrimagnets in spintronic devices their advantageous properties must be retained also in ultrathin films (t < 10 nm). In this study, ferrimagnetic Gdx(Fe87.5Co12.5)1-x thin films in the thickness range t = 2-20 nm were grown on high resistance Si(100) substrates and studied using broadband ferromagnetic resonance measurements at room temperature. By tuning their stoichiometry, a nearly compensated behavior is observed in 2 nm Gdx(Fe87.5Co12.5)1-x ultrathin films for the first time, with an effective magnetization of Meff = 0.02 T and a low effective Gilbert damping constant of {\alpha} = 0.0078, comparable to the lowest values reported so far in 30 nm films. We investigate a W-Ta alloying route to reduce the auto-oscillation current densities and the power consumption of nano-constriction based spin Hall nano oscillators. Using spin-torque ferromagnetic resonance (ST-FMR) measurements on microbars of W$_{\text{100-x}}$Ta$_{\text{x}}$(5 nm)/CoFeB(t)/MgO stacks with t = 1.4, 1.8, and 2.0 nm, we measure a substantial improvement in both the spin-orbit torque efficiency and the spin Hall conductivity. We demonstrate a 34\% reduction in threshold auto-oscillation current density, which translates into a 64\% reduction in power consumption as compared to pure W-based SHNOs. Our work demonstrates the promising aspects of W-Ta alloying for the energy-efficient operation of emerging spintronic devices.

Magnonics is a field of science that addresses the physical properties of spin waves and utilizes them for data processing. Scalability down to atomic dimensions, operations in the GHz-to-THz frequency range, utilization of nonlinear and nonreciprocal phenomena, and compatibility with CMOS are just a few of many advantages offered by magnons. Although magnonics is still primarily positioned in the academic domain, the scientific and technological challenges of the field are being extensively investigated, and many proof-of-concept prototypes have already been realized in laboratories. This roadmap is a product of the collective work of many authors that covers versatile spin-wave computing approaches, conceptual building blocks, and underlying physical phenomena. In particular, the roadmap discusses the computation operations with Boolean digital data, unconventional approaches like neuromorphic computing, and the progress towards magnon-based quantum computing. The article is organized as a collection of sub-sections grouped into seven large thematic sections. Each sub-section is prepared by one or a group of authors and concludes with a brief description of the current challenges and the outlook of the further development of the research directions., Comment: 74 pages, 57 figures, 500 references

We re-examine the physical relationship between Extreme-UltraViolet (EUV) waves and type II radio bursts. It has been often thought that they are two observational aspects of a single coronal shock wave. However, a lack of their speed correlation hampers the understanding of their respective (or common) natures in a single phenomenon. Knowing the uncertainties in identifying true wave components from observations and measuring their speeds, we re-examine the speeds of EUV waves reported in previous literature and compare these with type II radio bursts and Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs). This confirms the inconsistency between the speeds of EUV waves and their associated type II radio bursts. Second, CME speeds are found to have a better correlation with type II radio bursts than EUV waves. Finally, there exists a tendency for type II speeds and their range to be much greater than those of EUV waves. We demonstrate that the speed inconsistency is in fact an intrinsic tendency and elucidate the nature of a coronal shock wave consisting of both driven and non-driven parts. We demonstrate the compositional effect on the magnetodynamic and auto-oscillations properties of Ni100-xFex/Pt (x= 10 to 40) nanoconstriction based spin Hall nano-oscillators. Using spin-torque ferromagnetic resonance (ST-FMR) performed on microstrips, we measure a significant reduction in both damping and spin Hall efficiency with increasing Fe content, which lowers the spin pumping contribution. The strong compositional effect on spin Hall efficiency is primarily attributed to the increased saturation magnetization in Fe-rich devices. As a direct consequence, higher current densities are required to drive spin-wave auto-oscillations at higher microwave frequencies in Fe-rich nano-constriction devices. Our results establish the critical role of the compositional effect in engineering the magnetodynamic and auto-oscillation properties of spin Hall devices for microwav eand magnonic applications.

Synchronization of large spin Hall nano-oscillators (SHNO) arrays is an appealing approach toward ultra-fast non-conventional computing based on nanoscale coupled oscillator networks. However, for large arrays, interfacing to the network, tuning its individual oscillators, their coupling, and providing built-in memory units for training purposes, remain substantial challenges. Here, we address all these challenges using memristive gating of W/CoFeB/MgO/AlOx based SHNOs. In its high resistance state (HRS), the memristor modulates the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) at the CoFeB/MgO interface purely by the applied electric field. In its low resistance state (LRS), and depending on the voltage polarity, the memristor adds/subtracts current to/from the SHNO drive. The operation in both the HRS and LRS affects the SHNO auto-oscillation mode and frequency, which can be tuned up to 28 MHz/V. This tuning allows us to reversibly turn on/off mutual synchronization in chains of four SHNOs. We also demonstrate two individually controlled memristors to tailor both the coupling strength and the frequency of the synchronized state. Memristor gating is therefore an efficient approach to input, tune, and store the state of the SHNO array for any non-conventional computing paradigm, all in one platform.

Spin Hall nano-oscillators (SHNOs) are emerging spintronic devices for microwave signal generation and oscillator based neuromorphic computing combining nano-scale footprint, fast and ultra-wide microwave frequency tunability, CMOS compatibility, and strong non-linear properties providing robust large-scale mutual synchronization in chains and two-dimensional arrays. While SHNOs can be tuned via magnetic fields and the drive current, neither approach is conducive for individual SHNO control in large arrays. Here, we demonstrate electrically gated W/CoFeB/MgO nano-constrictions in which the voltage-dependent perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, tunes the frequency and, thanks to nano-constriction geometry, drastically modifies the spin-wave localization in the constriction region resulting in a giant 42 % variation of the effective damping over four volts. As a consequence, the SHNO threshold current can be strongly tuned. Our demonstration adds key functionality to nano-constriction SHNOs and paves the way for energy-efficient control of individual oscillators in SHNO chains and arrays for neuromorphic computing.

Spin-orbit torque (SOT) can drive sustained spin wave (SW) auto-oscillations in a class of emerging microwave devices known as spin Hall nano-oscillators (SHNOs), which have highly non-linear properties governing robust mutual synchronization at frequencies directly amenable to high-speed neuromorphic computing. However, all demonstrations have relied on localized SW modes interacting through dipolar coupling and/or direct exchange. As nanomagnonics requires propagating SWs for data transfer, and additional computational functionality can be achieved using SW interference, SOT driven propagating SWs would be highly advantageous. Here, we demonstrate how perpendicular magnetic anisotropy can raise the frequency of SOT driven auto-oscillations in magnetic nano-constrictions well above the SW gap, resulting in the efficient generation of field and current tunable propagating SWs. Our demonstration greatly extends the functionality and design freedom of SHNOs enabling long range SOT driven SW propagation for nanomagnonics, SW logic, and neuro-morphic computing, directly compatible with CMOS technology.

In this study, we present the observations of extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) waves associated with an M6.5 flare on 2013 April 11. The event was observed by Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) in different EUV channels. The flare was also associated with a halo CME and type II radio bursts. We observed both fast and slow components of the EUV wave. The speed of the fast component, which is identified as a fast-mode MHD wave, varies in the range from 600 to 640 km s^-1 , whereas the speed of the slow-component is ~140 km s^-1 . We observed an unusual phenomenon that, as the fast-component EUV wave passes through two successive magnetic quasi-separatrix layers (QSLs), two stationary wave fronts are formed locally. We propose that part of the outward-propagating fast-mode EUV wave is converted into slow-mode magnetohydrodynamic waves, which are trapped in local magnetic field structures, forming successive stationary fronts. Along the other direction, the fast-component EUV wave also creates oscillations in a coronal loop lying ~225 Mm away from the flare site. Spin Hall nano-oscillators (SHNOs) utilize pure spin currents to drive local regions of magnetic films and nanostructures into auto-oscillating precession. If such regions are placed in close proximity to each other they can interact and sometimes mutually synchronize, in pairs or in short linear chains. Here we demonstrate robust mutual synchronization of two-dimensional SHNO arrays ranging from 2 x 2 to 8 x 8 nano-constrictions, observed both electrically and using micro-Brillouin Light Scattering microscopy. The signal quality factor, $Q=f/\Delta f$, increases linearly with number of mutually synchronized nano-constrictions ($N$), reaching 170,000 in the largest arrays. While the microwave peak power first increases as $N^2$, it eventually levels off, indicating a non-zero relative phase shift between nano-constrictions. Our demonstration will enable the use of SHNO arrays in two-dimensional oscillator networks for high-quality microwave signal generation and neuromorphic computing.

We demonstrate low-operational-current W/Co$_{20}$Fe$_{60}$B$_{20}$/MgO spin Hall nano-oscillators (SHNOs) on highly resistive silicon (HiR-Si) substrates. Thanks to a record high spin Hall angle of the $\beta$-phase W ($\theta_{SH}$ = -0.53), a very low threshold current density of 3.3 $\times$ 10$^{7}$ A/cm$^2$ can be achieved. Together with their very wide frequency tunability (7-28 GHz), promoted by a moderate perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, this makes HiR-Si/W/CoFeB based SHNOs potential candidates for wide-band microwave signal generation. Their CMOS compatibility offers a promising route towards the integration of spintronic microwave devices with other on-chip semiconductor microwave components., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

We present and discuss here the observations of a small long duration GOES B- class flare associated with a quiescent filament eruption, a global EUV wave and a CME on 2011 May 11. The event was well observed by the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), GONG H{\alpha}, STEREO and HiRAS spectrograph. As the fil- ament erupted, ahead of the filament we observed the propagation of EIT wave fronts, as well as two flare ribbons on both sides of the polarity inversion line (PIL) on the solar surface. The observations show the co-existence of two types of EUV waves, i.e., a fast and a slow one. A type II radio burst with up to the third harmonic component was also associated with this event. We present and interpret the observations of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) waves associated with a filament eruption on 2011 May 11.The filament eruption also produces a small B-class two ribbon flare and a coronal mass ejection (CME). The event is observed by the Solar Dynamic Observatory (SDO) with high spatio-temporal resolution data recorded by Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA). As the filament erupts, we observe two types of EUV waves (slow and fast) propagating outwards. The faster EUV wave has a propagation velocity of ~ 500 km/s and the slower EUV wave has an initial velocity of ~ 120 km/s. We report for the first time that not only the slower EUV wave stops at a magnetic separatrix to form bright stationary fronts, but also the faster EUV wave transits a magnetic separatrix, leaving another stationary EUV front behind., Comment: 24 pages, 6 Figures, accepted for the publication in Astrophysical Journal

The $1 ^3\Sigma_u^- \leftarrow X^3\Sigma_g^-$ transition of linear HC$_5$H (A) has been observed in a neon matrix and gas phase. The assignment is based on mass-selective experiments, extrapolation of previous results of the longer HC$_{2n+1}$H homologues, and density functional and multi-state CASPT2 theoretical methods. Another band system starting at 303 nm in neon is assigned as the $1 ^1 A_1 \leftarrow X ^1 A_1$ transition of the cumulene carbene pentatetraenylidene H$_2$C$_5$ (B)., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures, 5 tables

We present strong evidence that the broad, diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs) at 4881 and 5450\,\AA are caused by the $B\,^1$B$_1$\,$\leftarrow$\,$X\,^1$A$_1$ transition of H$_2$CCC (l-C$_3$H$_2$). The large widths of the bands are due to the short lifetime of the $B\,^1$B$_1$ electronic state. The bands are predicted from absorption measurements in a neon matrix and observed by cavity ring-down in the gas phase and show exact matches to the profiles and wavelengths of the two broad DIBs. The strength of the 5450\,\AA DIB leads to a l-C$_3$H$_2$ column density of $\sim5\times10^{14}$ cm$^{-2}$ towards HD\,183143 and $\sim2\times10^{14}$\,cm$^{-2}$ to HD\,206267. Despite similar values of $E$($B-V$), the 4881 and 5450\,\AA DIBs in HD\,204827 are less than one third their strength in HD\,183143, while the column density of interstellar C$_3$ is unusually high for HD\,204827 but undetectable for HD\,183143. This can be understood if C$_3$ has been depleted by hydrogenation to species such as l-C$_3$H$_2$ towards HD\,183143. There are also three rotationally resolved sets of triplets of l-C$_3$H$_2$ in the 6150$-$6330\,\AA region. Simulations, based on the derived spectroscopic constants and convolved with the expected instrumental and interstellar line broadening, show credible coincidences with sharp, weak DIBs for the two observable sets of triplets. The region of the third set is too obscured by the $\alpha$-band of telluric O$_2$., Comment: 22 pages, 9 figures
