1. AMT-APC: Automatic Piano Cover by Fine-Tuning an Automatic Music Transcription Model

Abstract

There have been several studies on automatically generating piano covers, and recent advancements in deep learning have enabled the creation of more sophisticated covers. However, existing automatic piano cover models still have room for improvement in terms of expressiveness and fidelity to the original. To address these issues, we propose a learning algorithm called AMT-APC, which leverages the capabilities of automatic music transcription models. By utilizing the strengths of well-established automatic music transcription models, we aim to improve the accuracy of piano cover generation. Our experiments demonstrate that the AMT-APC model reproduces original tracks more accurately than any existing models.

2. Time-Varying Graph Signal Estimation among Multiple Sub-Networks

Abstract

This paper presents an estimation method for time-varying graph signals among multiple sub-networks. In many sensor networks, signals observed are associated with nodes (i.e., sensors), and edges of the network represent the inter-node connectivity. For a large sensor network, measuring signal values at all nodes over time requires huge resources, particularly in terms of energy consumption. To alleviate the issue, we consider a scenario that a sub-network, i.e., cluster, from the whole network is extracted and an intra-cluster analysis is performed based on the statistics in the cluster. The statistics are then utilized to estimate signal values in another cluster. This leads to the requirement for transferring a set of parameters of the sub-network to the others, while the numbers of nodes in the clusters are typically different. In this paper, we propose a cooperative Kalman filter between two sub-networks. The proposed method alternately estimates signals in time between two sub-networks. We formulate a state-space model in the source cluster and transfer it to the target cluster on the basis of optimal transport. 3. Detect Fake with Fake: Leveraging Synthetic Data-driven Representation for Synthetic Image Detection

Abstract

Are general-purpose visual representations acquired solely from synthetic data useful for detecting fake images? In this work, we show the effectiveness of synthetic data-driven representations for synthetic image detection. Upon analysis, we find that vision transformers trained by the latest visual representation learners with synthetic data can effectively distinguish fake from real images without seeing any real images during pre-training. Notably, using SynCLR as the backbone in a state-of-the-art detection method demonstrates a performance improvement of +10.32 mAP and +4.73% accuracy over the widely used CLIP, when tested on previously unseen GAN models. However, there are few reports on the association between sleep-related characteristics and asthma exacerbation. The aim of the current prospective observational study was to explore the factors while sleeping associated with future asthma exacerbation.Materials and Methods: At baseline, adult asthmatics underwent home sleep monitoring by a Watch-PAT instrument and then they were prospectively followed-up for the occurrence of exacerbations. The number of asthma exacerbation was observed over a period of one year, and multivariable analyses of the factors associated with asthma exacerbation were performed.Results: A total of 62 asthmatic subjects were enrolled (mean age 62.1 years), 59 of whom were finally included in the prospective observational study. Obstructive sleep apnea (defined by an apnea-hypopnea index based on peripheral arterial tone more than 5 times/hour) were observed in 81% of the subjects. During the one-year monitoring period, 14 of the 59 subjects (24%) used occasional systemic corticosteroids for their exacerbation asthma (worsened group) while the other 45 subjects did not experience asthma exacerbation (stable group). A comparison of the baseline clinical characteristics and sleep-related data between the two groups, mean forced expiratory volume one second percent (FEV1/FVC), mean baseline Asthma Control Test (ACT) score, median pAHI value, and median oxygen desaturation index value were significantly lower in the worsened group than those in the stable group. Additionally, mean prevalence of the left lateral decubitus (LLD) position in sleep monitoring were significantly higher in the worsened group than that in the stable group. Among the independent variables, baseline asthma severity, ACT score, and the LLD position showed significant associations with asthma exacerbation.Discussion/Conclusion: The present study identified that sleeping in the LLD position was also associated with asthma exacerbation.Keywords: asthma, asthma control, sleep position, asthma exacerbation

5. A self-consistent model for dust settling and the vertical shear instability in protoplanetary disks

Abstract

The spatial distribution of dust particles in protoplanetary disks affects dust evolution and planetesimal formation processes. The vertical shear instability (VSI) is one of the candidate hydrodynamic mechanisms that can generate turbulence in the outer disk region and affect dust diffusion. Turbulence driven by the VSI has a predominant vertical motion that can prevent dust settling. On the other hand, the dust distribution controls the spatial distribution of the gas cooling rate, thereby affecting the strength of VSI-driven turbulence. Here, we present a semi-analytic model that determines the vertical dust distribution and the strength of VSI-driven turbulence in a self-consistent manner. The model uses an empirical formula for the vertical diffusion coefficient in VSI-driven turbulence obtained from our recent hydrodynamical simulations. The formula returns the vertical diffusion coefficient as a function of the vertical profile of the cooling rate, which is determined by the vertical dust distribution. We use this model to search for an equilibrium vertical dust profile where settling balances with turbulent diffusion for a given maximum grain size. We find that if the grains are sufficiently small, there exists a stable equilibrium dust distribution where VSI-driven turbulence is sustained at a level of alpha_z ~ 10^{-3}, where alpha_z is the dimensionless vertical diffusion coefficient. However, as the maximum grain size increases, the equilibrium solution vanishes because the VSI can no longer stop the settling of the grains. 6. Performance Evaluation of CMOS Annealing with Support Vector Machine

Abstract

In this paper, support vector machine (SVM) performance was assessed utilizing a quantum-inspired complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) annealer. The primary focus during performance evaluation was the accuracy rate in binary classification problems. A comparative analysis was conducted between SVM running on a CPU (classical computation) and executed on a quantum-inspired annealer. The performance outcome was evaluated using a CMOS annealing machine, thereby obtaining an accuracy rate of 93.7% for linearly separable problems, 92.7% for non-linearly separable problem 1, and 97.6% for non-linearly separable problem 2. These results reveal that a CMOS annealing machine can achieve an accuracy rate that closely rivals that of classical computation., Comment: Fixed some errors

Spirometry is useful for the early detection of COPD and asthma with airflow limitation (AL), although it is not yet widely used for screening in epidemiological and primary care settings. A simple predictive marker used in combination with spirometry for AL is expected to be established. In medical health check-ups, serum uric acid (s-UA) is measured when screening for gout and has recently been suggested to have an association with several respiratory disorders, including asthma and COPD. However, whether s-UA influences the development of AL remains unclear. Therefore, the aims of this study were to examine the relationship between AL and s-UA and to investigate s-UA as a potential auxiliary marker for predicting AL risk in medical health check-ups. A total of 8,662 subjects aged >40 years were included. They were administered a simple questionnaire and assessed using pulmonary function tests, blood pressure (BP) measurements, and blood samplings. One hundred and fifty-six subjects (1.8%) had AL, just 29% of whom had experienced respiratory symptoms. The subjects with AL had significantly higher s-UA levels compared with never-smoking subjects without AL. Forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) %predicted showed significant correlations with age, smoking index, body mass index (BMI), mean BP, white blood cells, hemoglobin A1c, s-UA, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. In multiple logistic regression analysis, s-UA, in addition to age, smoking index, respiratory symptoms, and BMI, was independently associated with AL. In conclusion, elevated s-UA levels, together with respiratory symptoms, high smoking index, and weight loss, may epidemiologically predict the development of AL risk. 17. Insight and comprehensive study of Ni-based catalysts supported on various metal oxides for CO2 methanation

Abstract

Abstract In this study, nickel supported on various metal oxides were prepared by simple impregnation and the performance for CO2 methanation was tested. The oxide supports were all prepared by thermal decomposition of metal salts to provide comparable oxide properties such as surface area. Among the investigated oxides, nickel supported on CeO2 and Y2O3 showed the highest CO2 conversion of 90% at 320 °C with highest CH4 selectivity of 99%. The order of catalyst activity (XCO2@320°C) was reported: Ni/CeO2 ~ Ni/Y2O3 > > Ni/La2O3 > Ni/ZrO2 > Ni/Al2O3 > Ni/MgO > Ni/CaO > > Ni/MnO. The physicochemical properties of the catalysts were analyzed by TEM, BET, XRD, ICP, H2-TPR, CO2-TPD, H2 chemisorption, TGA, Raman, and XPS. From the characterization results, the catalyst activity was independent to specific surface area of catalyst and crystallite size of Ni. The amount of oxygen vacancies and weak-to-medium basic sites exhibited major roles for enhancing catalyst activity. The CeO2 and Y2O3 as reducible oxide supports not only provided abundant oxygen vacancies / basic sites, but also promoted Ni dispersion with appropriate interaction between metal and support, resulting in higher reducibility at low temperature. The reduction of catalyst at high temperature can significantly improve the performance of Ni supported on non-reducible MgO. However, the Ni/CeO2 and Ni/Y2O3 reduced at high temperature suffered from coalescence of CeO2 and Y2O3, though Ni crystallite sizes are well preserved from sintering.

Abstract

Purpose: Non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA) represents the persistent absence of sperm in ejaculate without obstruction, stemming from diverse disease processes. This survey explores global practices in NOA diagnosis, comparing them with guidelines and offering expert recommendations. Materials and Methods:Materials and Methods: A 56-item questionnaire survey on NOA diagnosis and management was conducted globally from July to September 2022. This paper focuses on part 1, evaluating NOA diagnosis. Data from 367 participants across 49 coun-tries were analyzed descriptively, with a Delphi process used for expert recommendations. Results:Results: Of 336 eligible responses, most participants were experienced attending physicians (70.93%). To diagnose azoosper-mia definitively, 81.7% requested two semen samples. Commonly ordered hormone tests included serum follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) (97.0%), total testosterone (92.9%), and luteinizing hormone (86.9%). Genetic testing was requested by 66.6%, with karyotype analysis (86.2%) and Y chromosome microdeletions (88.3%) prevalent. Diagnostic testicular biopsy, distinguishing obstructive azoospermia (OA) from NOA, was not performed by 45.1%, while 34.6% did it selectively. Differ-entiation relied on physical examination (76.1%), serum hormone profiles (69.6%), and semen tests (68.1%). Conclusions:Conclusions: This expert survey, encompassing 367 participants from 49 countries, unveils congruence with recommended guidelines in NOA diagnosis. However, noteworthy disparities in practices suggest a need for evidence-based, international consensus guidelines to standardize NOA evaluation, addressing existing gaps in professional recommendations.

Abstract

Recent infrared and submillimeter observations suggest that the protoplanetary disk lifetime depends on the central stellar mass. The disk dispersal is thought to be driven by viscous accretion, magneto-hydrodynamics (MHD) winds, and photoevaporation by the central star. We perform a set of one-dimensional simulations of long-term disk evolution that include all the three processes. We vary the stellar mass in the range of 0.5-7M$_{\odot}$, and study the mass dependence of the disk evolution. We show that a significant fraction of the disk gas is lost by MHD winds in the early stage, but the later disk evolution is mainly governed by photoevaporation. The disk radius decreases as photoevaporation clears out the gas in the outer disk efficiently. The qualitative evolutionary trends of the disk mass are remarkably similar for the wide range of the central stellar mass we consider, and the time evolution of the disk mass can be well fitted by a simple function. The dispersal time is approximately ten million years for low mass stars with weak mass dependence, but gets as short as two million years around a 7M$_{\odot}$ star. In the latter case, a prominent inner hole is formed by the combined effect of accretion and MHD winds within about one million years. Abstract

Deep-learning inverse techniques have attracted significant attention in recent years. Among them, the neural adjoint (NA) method, which employs a neural network surrogate simulator, has demonstrated impressive performance in the design tasks of artificial electromagnetic materials (AEM). However, the impact of the surrogate simulators' accuracy on the solutions in the NA method remains uncertain. Furthermore, achieving sufficient optimization becomes challenging in this method when the surrogate simulator is large, and computational resources are limited. Additionally, the behavior under constraints has not been studied, despite its importance from the engineering perspective. In this study, we investigated the impact of surrogate simulators' accuracy on the solutions and discovered that the more accurate the surrogate simulator is, the better the solutions become. We then developed an extension of the NA method, named Neural Lagrangian (NeuLag) method, capable of efficiently optimizing a sufficient number of solution candidates. We then demonstrated that the NeuLag method can find optimal solutions even when handling sufficient candidates is difficult due to the use of a large and accurate surrogate simulator. The resimulation errors of the NeuLag method were approximately 1/50 compared to previous methods for three AEM tasks. Finally, we performed optimization under constraint using NA and NeuLag, and confirmed their potential in optimization with soft or hard constraints. 49. Observation of Chiral-Mode Domains in a Frustrated XY Model on Optical Triangular Lattices

Abstract

We investigated the relaxation and excitation in a frustrated XY model realized by a Bose gas in Floquet-engineered optical triangular lattices. Periodically driving the position of the entire lattice structure enables the sign inversion of tunneling amplitudes, which, in the case of a triangular lattice, results in geometrical frustration of the local phase of wave packets. We revealed that the two spiral phases with chiral modes show significant differences in relaxation time from the initial ferromagnetic phase. While spontaneous symmetry breaking is clearly observed at a slow ramp of the Floquet drive, simultaneous occupation of two ground states often occurs at a fast ramp, which can be attributed to the domain formation of the chiral modes. The interference of the spatially separated chiral modes was observed, using a quantum gas microscope. Abstract

To protect privacy and prevent malicious use of deepfake, current studies propose methods that interfere with the generation process, such as detection and destruction approaches. However, these methods suffer from sub-optimal generalization performance to unseen models and add undesirable noise to the original image. To address these problems, we propose a new problem formulation for deepfake prevention: generating a ``scapegoat image'' by modifying the style of the original input in a way that is recognizable as an avatar by the user, but impossible to reconstruct the real face. Even in the case of malicious deepfake, the privacy of the users is still protected. To achieve this, we introduce an optimization-based editing method that utilizes GAN inversion to discourage deepfake models from generating similar scapegoats.
