Here we present the high-resolution continuous flow analysis (CFA) data from the top 479 m of the East Greenland Ice coring Project (EGRIP) ice core covering the past 3.8 kyr. The data consist of 1 mm depth-resolution profiles of calcium, sodium, ammonium, nitrate, and electrolytic conductivity as well as decadal averages of these profiles. The nominally 1 mm data represent an oversampling of the record as the true resolution is limited by the analytical setup to approximately 1 cm. Alongside the data we provide a description of the measurement setup, procedures, the relevant references for the specific methods as well as an assessment of the precision of the measurements, the sample-to-depth assignment, and the depth and temporal resolution of the data set. The error in absolute depth assignment of the data may be on the order of 2 cm ; however, relative depth offsets between the records of the individual species are only on the order of 1 mm. The presented data have sub-annual resolution over the entire depth range and have already formed part of the data for an annually layer-counted timescale for the EGRIP ice core used to improve and revise the multi-core Greenland ice-core chronology (GICC05) to a new version, GICC21. To investigate regional and temporal variations in the sources and atmospheric transport processes for mineral dust deposited on the Greenland Ice Sheet, we analysed the morphology and mineral composition of dust in an ice core from northeastern Greenland (East Greenland Ice-Core Project, EGRIP), representing the period from 1910 to 2013, using scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and compared the results with those previously obtained for an ice core from northwestern Greenland (SIGMA-D). The composition of the SIGMA-D ice-core dust, comprising mostly silicate minerals, varied on a multi-decadal timescale due to an increased contribution of minerals originating from local ice-free areas during recent warming periods. In contrast, for the EGRIP ice-core dust, also consisting mostly of silicate minerals, there was relatively low compositional variation among the samples, suggesting that the mineral sources have not changed dramatically over the past 100 years. The subtle variation in the EGRIP ice-core mineral composition is likely due to a minor contribution of local dust. The type of silicate minerals differed significantly between the two ice cores; micas and chlorite, which form in cold dry regions, were abundant in the EGRIP ice core, whereas kaolinite, which forms in warm humid regions, was abundant in the SIGMA-D ice core. This indicates that the EGRIP ice-core dust likely originated from different geological sources than those for the SIGMA-D dust. A back-trajectory analysis indicated that the ice-core dust was transported from Northern Eurasia and North America to the EGRIP site, and that the contribution from each source was likely smaller and larger, respectively, than those for the SIGMA-D ice core. Furthermore, the higher illite content in the EGRIP ice core suggests dust transportation from Asian deserts. Although the back-trajectory analysis suggests that most of the air mass that arrived at the EGRIP site came from the Greenland coast, the mineral grain size and composition results showed that the local dust contribution was likely small. Here, we used a modified single-particle soot photometer (SP2) coupled with a concentric pneumatic nebulizer to measure the size-resolved number and mass concentrations of light-absorbing iron oxide aerosols (FeOx) in liquid water (CNFeOx and CMFeOx, respectively). The SP2 could selectively detect individual FeOx particles in mixed wüstite–fullerene soot laboratory samples and melted Arctic snow samples. The nebulizer efficiency for FeOx particles was about 50% within the 70–650 nm diameter range, as derived from the ratio of the volume of ammonium sulfate before and after extraction by the nebulizer and the size-resolved transmission efficiency in the nebulizer–SP2 sampling line. Uncertainty from the boundary lines empirically drawn to discriminate the scatterplots of FeOx and black carbon in the mixed wüstite–fullerene soot suspensions and snow samples was approximately 3.0% and 10%, respectively. Overall uncertainty in total CNFeOx and CMFeOx (220–1400 nm) was approximately 19% and 18%, respectively. After storage at 4 °C for 16 months, the FeOx particle size distributions in melted Arctic snow had remained stable, and CNFeOx and CMFeOx had changed by less than 19% and 1.0%, on average, respectively. Most of the FeOx on dust particles measured by this system was estimated to be in the diameter range smaller than 1000 nm, considering the nebulizer efficiency for dust particles. The high accuracy of the CNFeOx and CMFeOx measurements will help to improve our quantitative understanding of the wet deposition of FeOx and provide more accurate estimates of the effects of FeOx on snow surface albedo. An 86-year-old woman was referred to our hospital after an incidental CT scan of the trunk revealed a mass in the left breast and enlarged axillary lymph nodes. A core needle biopsy(CNB)from a 2 cm mass in the left breast revealed invasive ductal carcinoma, weakly positive result for ER, negative result for PgR, and negative result for HER2. She also had multiple enlarged left supraclavicular lymph nodes and was T2N3cM0, Stage ⅢC on pretreatment evaluation. She was given the S-1 oral drug of choice, starting with 80 mg/day/4-week dosing with a 2-week rest. Eight months after the start of S-1, a partial mastectomy and sentinel lymph node biopsy were performed. Pathological findings showed a pathological complete response(ypTis/ypN0)with only a 2 mm non-invasive carcinoma remnant in the left mammary gland. S-1 is weakly recommended as primary chemotherapy for HER2-negative metastatic recurrent breast cancer, but there are no reports to date of complete response in resection cases. S-1 may be administered to patients with locally advanced breast cancer who cannot tolerate standard drug therapy and may be converted to resection after a successful response.

The implantation of a totally implantable central venous(CV)access port is considered a risk factor for venous thromboembolism( VTE). In the treatment of catheter-related thrombosis(CRT), both European and American guidelines recommend anticoagulation therapy with catheters in place. We experienced 2 cases of upper extremity deep vein thrombosis (UEDVT)after the implantation of CV access ports through the left subclavian vein for adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with resected breast cancer. Both patients were successfully treated with direct oral anticoagulants(DOAC) while the port remained in place with a careful follow-up that included monitoring of serum D-dimer levels. The administration of DOAC to CRT that develops in patients undergoing postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer may be relatively safe, with a low potential for adverse events such as bleeding.

A 64-year-old male with fatigue and icterus was referred to our hospital. Computed tomography(CT)demonstrated multiple liver metastases and colonoscopic examination revealed advanced rectal cancer, which was diagnosed as moderately- differentiated adenocarcinoma without KRAS mutation. His serum total bilirubin level was 15.6 mg/dL. We started combination chemotherapy with 5-fluorouracil, Leucovorin and oxaliplatin(modified FOLFOX6)at a 20% lower than standard dosage for safety. When his bilirubin fell to 2.3 mg/dL after 4 courses of mFOLFOX6, the doses of 5-fluorouracil and oxaliplatin were increased to standard doses, and treatment with bevacizumab of 5 mg/kg every 2 weeks was begun. After another 3 courses of chemotherapy, his bilirubin was normalized to 0.8 mg/dL. No significant toxicity was observed. Combination chemotherapy with mFOLFOX6 plus bevacizumab was effective and feasible in this case of metastatic rectal cancer with icterus due to diffuse liver metastases.
