Abstract

A catenane comprising two cages was synthesized. Each cage is formed from two tridentate ligands bound together with three metal ions. One cage framework binds an aromatic ring, ad the two cage units bind one another during assembly via the formation of a quadruple aromatic stack. This results in the ten-component interlocked supermolecule.

Abstract

Abstract Steroid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral condyle is a relatively uncommon condition and is often difficult to select appropriate treatment especially in young patients. Three young men (aged 25, 18, and 24) presented with severe pain and dysfunction of the knee diagnosed as steroid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral condyle by magnetic resonance imaging (MRIs). Full-thickness cartilage defects sized 20 × 10, 15 × 10, and 30 × 20 mm respectively were classified as International Cartilage Repair Society Grade IV lesions and treated with osteochondral autograft transplantation. They were treated successfully with osteochondral autograft transplantation certificated by post-operative MRI and second look arthroscopy.

Abstract

The study is conducted to demonstrate that one-dimensional columnar structure, characteristic of a low molecular-weight gel system is useful as a potential strategy for construction of tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) nanowires. The result reveals that the obtained gel possesses the high viscosity, which has enabled to prepare the highly aligned self-assembled TTF fibers on the surface.

Abstract

The alkylamide group-tethered tetraphenyl porphyrin skeleton being a promising candidate of a 1-D aggregative template for nanostructuring was investigated. On the basis of this result, diacetylene units as polymerizable monomers into the 1-D aggregative core was introduced, expecting creation of a novel supramolecular architecture, in which the porphyrin pi-stacking column is fabricated by conductive polymers.

Molecular modeling is demonstrated to seek a stable conformation of polydiacetylene (PDA) prepared from [G.sub.n]S in the gel state which is useful in predicting the effective conjugation length in PDA. These findings are useful in the design of PDA-based sensors for organic and biomolecular objectives.

The influence of added C60 on the aggregation properties of 1b in the gel phase is examined and it is found that added C60 induces a striking morphological change forming a 1:2 C60/1b complex. The one-dimensional superstructure consisting of porphyrins and C60's would show very novel electron-transfer phenomena is implied by the findings.

25. Spontaneous formation of dye-functionalized gold nanoparticles using reverse micellar systems

Abstract

Detailed exploratory and mechanistic investigations on spontaneous formation of dye-functionalized gold nanoparticles (GNPs) using dye-based reverse micellar systems are described in this publication. The accumulated results from spectroscopic and microscopic investigations demonstrated that water molecules confined within nanoscopic enclosure of the self-assembled reverse micelles played critical role in the redox processes of aurate ions to produce GNPs, which are assumed to have approximately constant size distributions. The resulting dye-functionalized GNPs were found to offer their absorption and fluorescence emission tunability by changing the medium polarity as well as to exhibit excellent film-forming properties to give optically homogeneous polystyrene thin films. These key findings in addition to broad applicability of the self-assembling process with a variety of dye analogues have led to a conclusion that the protocol presented here serves as a versatile synthetic method to provide a potential convenience for future development of new organic-inorganic hybrid nanomaterials.
