This study aimed to review the validity and/or reliability of light-intensity physical activity (LPA) questionnaires and identify the most suitable questionnaires for measurement of LPA in adults. Following the PRISMA-P 2020 guidelines, we searched MEDLINE, PsycINFO, CINAHL, Scopus, Embase, and MedNar. Only studies that targeted adults [greater than or equal to]18 years old and used LPA measured by accelerometer and/or heart rate monitor as an objective criterion were included. The search resulted in 2748 article hits, from which we extracted 16 studies with 14 questionnaires. The 7-Day Sedentary and LPA Log and LPA Questionnaire were specifically designed for LPA measurement, and the Community Health Activities Model Program for Seniors physical activity self-report questionnaire scale has been revised for LPA measurement. These questionnaires had comparatively high reliability and validity in this review. Most studies contained methodological limitations such as test-retest period. In the future, more accurate reliability/validity studies should be conducted for each questionnaire.

Aim: This study aimed to validate a Japanese version of the Algoplus® tool by assessing postoperative pain in older Japanese patients with cancer and examining the scale's psychometric properties. Methods: After translating Algoplus® into Japanese, we conducted a cross‐sectional study of patients aged 65 years or older who underwent surgery to remove malignant tumors. Two registered nurse‐certified investigators used the Numerical Rating Scale, the Japanese version of Algoplus®, and the Japanese version of the Abbey Pain Scale before and after analgesic use on postoperative days 3 and 5 to evaluate response to pharmacologic therapy. Validity was tested by a correlation analysis between the Japanese version of Algoplus®, two pain scales, and nine hypotheses related to demographic variables and surgical invasions. The Kuder–Richardson‐20 test and Cohen's Kappa coefficient were used for internal consistency and inter‐rater reliability, respectively. Results: The total score of the Japanese version of Algoplus® showed strong to moderate correlations with the two pain scales. Demographic characteristics were not associated with the total score of the Japanese version, but significant correlations with operative time and postoperative analgesia administration existed. The scale demonstrated good internal consistency (Kuder–Richardson‐20 α:.70) and inter‐rater reliability (Kappa coefficient.72). The total score of the Japanese version decreased significantly after analgesic use in both postoperative assessments. Conclusions: The Japanese version of Algoplus® is a reliable and valid instrument for nurses to easily assess acute postoperative pain in older Japanese patients with cancer and shows good responsiveness for detecting the change in pain status. The European Health Literacy Survey Questionnaire (HLS-EU-Q47) is available in multiple languages, and shortened versions have also been developed. This study aimed to examine the reliability and validity of the short version of the questionnaire (HLS-Q12) developed for community-dwelling older adults in Japan. The HLS-Q12 was developed using 12 of the 47 items of the Japanese version of the HLS-EU-Q47. In this study, the survey was conducted by distributing self-administered questionnaires to community-dwelling individuals aged 65 years and older who consented to participate; their responses were collected by mail. The correlation between the HLS-Q12 and the HLS-EU-Q47 was tested to assess criterion validity. To test construct validity, nine novel hypotheses were proposed. We also conducted a confirmatory factor analysis of the HLS-Q12. Based on a resurvey after 5–7 days, test–retest reliability was examined using interclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) and Bland–Altman analysis. In total, 118 individuals provided valid responses to the questionnaire. The Spearman rank correlation coefficient between the HLS-Q12 and the HLS-EU-Q47 was r  = 0.98 (p  < 0.001), and eight of the nine hypotheses were supported. The ICC was 0.96 (p  < 0.001), and the 95% limit of agreement was −0.26 ± 5.9, suggesting no systematic error. Thus, the Japanese version of the HLS-Q12 was found to be reliable with high criterion validity and reproducibility. Hence, the HLS-Q12 is a useful scale for measuring health literacy among older adults in Japan. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: Advanced Practice Nurses are expected to provide lifesaving care to patients with complex acute illnesses in emergency and critical care settings. However, little is known about their competencies and barriers to practice in emergency and critical care settings. This review investigated these nurses' competencies to practice. Methods: A scoping review was conducted in accordance with Arksey and O′Malley's framework. Extensive research searches were conducted using seven electronic databases: MEDLINE, CINAHL, Scopus, Web of Science, Ichushi Web, Mednar and GreyNet International. Definitions and explanations of Advanced Practice Nurse competencies were categorized into elements and grouped according to similarity. Results: The database searches identified 2,483 studies, and data were extracted for 23 studies. Analysed studies were published between 2000 and 2021 and conducted in eight countries. Seven competencies were identified: performing advanced practice nursing, acute patient care, diagnostic assessment, interdisciplinary collaboration and consultation, leadership and system management, documenting patient care and supporting patient and family decision‐making. Conclusion: This review identified competencies unique to Advanced Practice Nurses in emergency and critical care settings. Further research is required to facilitate understanding of the crucial roles of advanced care nurses among healthcare providers. Summary statement: What is already known about this topic? Aim: This systematic review aimed to assess the effect of non‐pharmacologic perioperative oral hygiene care on reduced incidence of postoperative pneumonia (PP), surgical site infection (SSI), and the length of hospital stay in patients with cancer, and to describe the details of oral hygiene care. Methods: We searched seven databases. Eligibility criteria were based on perioperative oral hygiene care provided by healthcare professionals to patients aged ≥18 years who were surgically treated under general anesthesia and were evaluated for the incidence of PP and SSI. We reported risk ratios (RR) for dichotomous outcomes for PP and SSI using a fixed‐effects model of meta‐analysis. Results: The search resulted in 850 articles, among which two were randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and 21 were observational studies. Most studies indicated that dentists and medical care providers performed a combination of oral cleaning, and oral hygiene instructions. In RCTs, perioperative oral hygiene care significantly reduced the incidence of PP (RR, 0.86; p =.60), while in observational studies, perioperative oral hygiene care significantly reduced the incidence of PP (RR, 0.55; p <.001) and SSI (RR, 0.47; p <.001). The length of hospital stay was also significantly reduced (p <.05). However, the effectiveness of nursing intervention was not clear. Conclusions: Perioperative oral hygiene care implemented by healthcare professionals prevented PP and SSI and reduced length of hospital stays for patients after cancer surgery. As daily perioperative oral hygiene care is performed by nurses, it is necessary to research the effects of oral hygiene by nurses in the future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
