Abstract

We propose a prime factorizer operated in a framework of quantum annealing (QA). The idea is inverse operation of a multiplier implemented with QA-based Boolean logic circuits. We designed the QA machine on an application-specific-annealing-computing architecture which efficiently increases available hardware budgets at the cost of restricted functionality. The invertible operation of QA logic gates consisting of superconducting flux qubits was confirmed by circuit simulation with classical noise sources. The circuits were implemented and fabricated by using superconducting integrated circuit technologies with Nb/AlOx/Nb Josephson junctions. We also propose a 2.5Dimensional packaging scheme of a qubit-chip/interpose /package-substrate structure for realizing practically large-scale QA systems., Comment: 17 pages, 11 figures

Abstract

We proposed a new high resolution single photon infrared spectrometer for search for radiative decay of cosmic neutrino background(C$\nu$B). The superconducting-tunnel-junctions(STJs) are used as a single photoncounting device. Each STJ consists of Nb/Al/Al${}_{\mathrm{x}}$O${}_{\mathrm{y}}$/Al/Nb layers and their thicknesses are optimized for the operation temperature at 370 mK cooled by a ${}^{3}$He sorption refrigerator. Our STJs achieved the leak current 250 pA and the measured data implies that a smaller area STJ fulfills our requirement. FD-SOI MOSFETs are employed to amplify the STJ signal current in order to increase signal-to-noise ratio(S/N). FD-SOI MOSFETs can be operated at cryogenic temperature of 370 mK, which reduces the noise of the signal amplification system. FD-SOI MOSFET characteristics are measured at cryogenic temperature. The Id-Vgs curve shows a sharper turn on with a higher threshold voltage and the Id-Vds curve shows a non linear shape in linear region at cryogenic temperature. Taking into account these effects, FD-SOI MOSFETs are available for read-out circuit of STJ detectors. The bias voltage for STJ detectors are 0.4 mV and it must be well stabilized to deliver high performance. We proposed an FD-SOI MOSFET based charge integrated amplifier design as a read-out circuit of STJ detectors. The requirements for an operational amplifier used in the amplifier is estimated using SPICE simulation. Abstract

The most efficient modern optical communication is known as coherent communication and its standard quantum limit (SQL) is almost reachable with current technology. Though it has been predicted for a long time that this SQL could be overcome via quantum mechanically optimized receivers, such a performance has not been experimentally realized so far. Here we demonstrate the first unconditional evidence surpassing the SQL of coherent optical communication. We implement a quantum receiver with a simple linear optics configuration and achieve more than 90% of the total detection efficiency of the system. Such an efficient quantum receiver will provide a new way of extending the distance of amplification-free channels, as well as of realizing quantum information protocols based on coherent states and the loophole-free test of quantum mechanics., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures

Abstract

We demonstrate a sub-shot-noise-limit discrimination of on-off keyed coherent signals by an optimal displacement quantum receiver in which a superconducting transition edge sensor is installed. Use of a transition edge sensor and a fiber beam splitter realizes high total detection efficiency and high interference visibility of the receiver and the observed average error surpasses the shot-noise-limit in a wider range of the signal power. Our technique opens up a new technology for the sub-shot-noise-limit detection of coherent signals in optical communication channels., Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures

27. Evaporation of Three-Dimensional Wavy Liquid Film Entrained by Turbulent Gas Flow

Abstract

A film cooling technique using a liquid film subjected to a hot gas flow in a turbulent condition is theoretically investigated. We successfully incorporate the two essential factors for the evaporating liquid film, droplet entrainment and three-dimensional film architecture, allowing for the physically-consistent straightforward formulation. The validity of the present model is convinced by reproducing combustion test results conducted for two types flightmodel bipropellant thrusters, in which the film length or dryout point shortens approximately inversely proportional to the combustion pressure. The underlying scenario to determine the film length is revealed. The gas flow initiates the originally smooth liquid film to be destabilized by Kelvin-Helmholtz instability in the axial direction and accelerates the wave crests leading to Rayleigh-Taylor instability in the transverse direction. Superposing the two types of waves produces three-dimensional cusps on the film as roots of entrained droplets. The convective heat transfer evaporating the liquid film is enhanced by the entrainment, reducing the net film flow rate, and by the cusp structure, enlarging the area of liquid/gas interface along the transverse direction in particular.
