Selective, robust and cost-effective chemical sensors for detecting small volatile-organic compounds (VOCs) have widespread applications in industry, healthcare and environmental monitoring. Here we design a Pt(II) pincer-type material with selective absorptive and emissive responses to methanol and water. The yellow anhydrous form converts reversibly on a subsecond timescale to a red hydrate in the presence of parts-per-thousand levels of atmospheric water vapour. Exposure to methanol induces a similarly-rapid and reversible colour change to a blue methanol solvate. Stable smart coatings on glass demonstrate robust switching over 104 cycles, and flexible microporous polymer membranes incorporating microcrystals of the complex show identical vapochromic behaviour. The rapid vapochromic response can be rationalised from the crystal structure, and in combination with quantum-chemical modelling, we provide a complete microscopic picture of the switching mechanism. We discuss how this multiscale design approach can be used to obtain new compounds with tailored VOC selectivity and spectral responses.

We present the synthesis, through a simple, microwave-assisted method, of lanthanoid-based 2D metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) of general formula [LnxLn′1−x(MeCOO)(PhCOO)2], including homonuclear compounds (x = 1), Ln＝Eu, Tb, and heterometallic compounds, [TbEu]. The crystalline material is formed by neutral nanosheets held together by van der Waals interactions, which can be easily exfoliated by sonication. Photoluminescent emission in the visible range was observed for all of the synthesized 2D MOF compounds via excitation of the ligand, showing benzoates are efficient antenna ligands. Efficient energy transfer from Tb → Eu was observed in the heterometallic [TbEu] compounds, which could potentially perform as luminescent thermometers. Inks containing nanosheets of 2D MOFs exfoliated in solution were prepared, and luminescent prints of Tb and Eu 2D MOFs on paper were made to show the possible application for anticounterfeiting. Frequency-dependent ac susceptibility results show the occurrence of slow magnetic relaxation in [TbEu] compounds through direct relaxation mechanisms, affected by bottleneck effect. We report the synthesis, crystal structure and photo-magnetic properties of novel Tb/Eu polymeric complexes of general formula {TbxEu1−x(α-fur)3(H2O)3}n, supported by 2-furancarboxilic acid: the homonuclear Tb(iii) complex {Tb} (1), four heterodinuclear complexes, {Tb0.8Eu0.2} (2), {Tb0.7Eu0.3} (3), {Tb0.3Eu0.7} (4), and {Tb0.1Eu0.9} (5), and the homonuclear Eu(iii)-only complex {Eu} (6). X-ray diffraction experiments show that the α-furoate ligands, acting in bridging mode, consolidate the 1D polymeric chains along the c-axis. Luminescence studies show the sensitization capability of the furoic acid ligand. Color tuning from green to red can be successfully achieved through the heterodinuclear strategy. We have measured Eu emission by direct excitation at the resonant 7F0→5L6 (395 nm), and indirectly, by excitation of the non-resonant wavelength (280 nm) which provokes ligand → Tb → Eu energy transfer. Besides, ac susceptibility measurements under varying frequencies and temperatures reveal that mixed {TbxEu1−x} complexes exhibit field-induced slow relaxation dynamics, with extremely slow relaxation times, owing to direct processes affected by the bottleneck effect. Thus, the {TbxEu1−x} complexes represent interesting low-dimensional multifunctional materials combining both luminescent and SMM magnetic properties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Interprofessional collaboration in healthcare involves diverse professionals working together to address complex patient needs. Interprofessional training wards offer workplace-based interprofessional education in real healthcare settings, fostering collaborative learning among students. While their educational value is widely recognized, debates persist regarding their cost-effectiveness due to limited research. This study assesses the cost efficiency of the interprofessional training ward Regensburg (A-STAR) within the Department of Internal Medicine I at the University Hospital Regensburg, compared to conventional wards., Methods: From October 2019 to December 2022, 7,244 patient cases were assigned to A-STAR or conventional wards by case managers, with a comprehensive analysis of all associated revenues and costs., Results: A-STAR treated 1,482 patients, whereas conventional wards treated 5,752 patients, with more males and younger patients at A-STAR. A-STAR achieved higher profit per case (€1,508.74) attributed to increased revenues and reduced material costs. It generated an average of €1,366.54 more Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG) revenue per case annually than conventional wards, due to greater medical complexity reflected in a higher case-mix index (CMI: 2.4 vs. 2.2). The increased case complexity led to longer patient stays (9.0 vs. 8.1 days) and fewer cases treated annually at A-STAR (27.4 cases/year vs. 37.8 cases/year). The higher CMI did not result in a higher proportion of patients requiring isolation. A-STAR exhibited a higher capacity utilization rate (87.1% vs. 83.9%). Personnel costs per case at A-STAR were initially elevated due to enhanced observation by the senior physician but were gradually mitigated by expanding A-STAR's bed capacity. Material costs were consistently lower on a per-case basis at A-STAR (€1512.02 vs. €1577.12), particularly in terms of medication expenses, indicating more resource-efficient operations. From the A-STAR graduates, 18 individuals were recruited for permanent positions as doctors or nurses over 2 years., Conclusion: A-STAR demonstrates economic efficiency and stability even during the COVID-19 pandemic. The substantial personnel acquisition is likely influenced by high levels of satisfaction with education and work and is economically relevant in medical staff shortages. Background and Aims: Ultra-microangiography (UMA) is a novel Doppler technique with optimized wall filtering that provides high sensitivity to low-velocity blood flows and optimized visualization of microcirculation. The aim of this pilot study was to compare intestinal vascularization assessed by color Doppler signals (CDS) and UMA., Methods: We investigated intestinal vascularization using UMA and CDS in 13 patients with confirmed inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). A cohort of 28 patients without structural bowel disease served as the control., Results: Microcirculation and dysregulated microcirculation in patients without and with inflammatory bowel disease can be visualized and quantified using UMA. In 83 % of IBD patients and 76% of non-IBD patients, a high resolution of intestinal perfusion could be achieved using UMA., Conclusions: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to investigate intestinal vascularization using UMA in patients with and without structural bowel disease. Quantification and visualization of intestinal vascularization should be further investigated in prospective studies and could help guide our therapy of patients with IBD.

The ionic transition metal complexes (iTMCs) [{Pt(C ∧ C*)(μ-Rpz)} 2 Ag(PPh 3 )]X (HC ∧ C* = 1-(4-(ethoxycarbonyl)phenyl)-3-methyl-1 H -imidazole-2-ylidene, X = ClO 4 /PF 6; Rpz = pz 1 a /2a , 4-Mepz 1 b /2b , and 3,5-dppz 1 c /2c ) were prepared from the neutral [{Pt(C ∧ C*)(μ-Rpz)} 2 ] (Rpz = pz A , 4-Mepz B , and 3,5-dppz C ) and fully characterized. The "Ag(PPh 3 )" fragment is in between the two square-planar platinum units in an "open book" disposition and bonded through two Pt-Ag donor-acceptor bonds, as shown by X-ray diffraction (d Pt-Ag ∼ 2.78 Å, 1a - 1c ). 195 Pt{ 1 H} and 31 P{ 1 H} NMR confirmed that these solid-state structures remain in solution. Photoluminescence studies and theoretical calculations on 1a , were performed. The diphenylpyrazolate derivatives show the highest photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) in the solid state. Therefore, 2c and its neutral precursor C were selected as active materials on light-emitting devices. OLEDs fabricated with C showed a turn-on voltage of 3.2 V, a luminance peak of 21,357 cd m -2 at 13 V, and a peak current efficiency of 28.8 cd A -1 (9.5% EQE). They showed a lifetime t 50 of 15.7 h. OLEDs using 2c showed a maximum luminance of 114 cd m -2 , while LECs exhibited a maximum luminance of 20 cd m -2 and a current efficiency of around 0.2 cd A -1 , with a t 50 value of 50 min.

Background: Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, global healthcare systems have faced unprecedented challenges, leading to significant psychological distress among healthcare professionals. Recognizing the importance of enhanced interprofessional collaboration in alleviating this burden, as emphasized by the World Health Organization in 2020, we investigated whether such collaboration could mitigate staff psychological distress during crises. To our knowledge, no study has yet explored the role of interprofessional collaboration as a resilience factor in crises., Methods: For this monocentric cross-sectional study at a German university hospital, we examined the relationship between the quality of interprofessional collaboration and the psychological distress of healthcare professionals during the initial pandemic wave. We employed validated mental health instruments, such as the GAD-7 and PHQ-2, to assess anxiety and depressive symptoms. Additionally, custom-designed questionnaires evaluated "Pandemic-Associated Burden and Anxiety (PAB; PAA)" and interprofessional crisis management experiences. A novel "Interprofessional collaboration and communication (IPC)" assessment tool was developed based on international competency frameworks, demonstrating strong reliability., Results: The study involved 299 healthcare professionals (78.6% in direct contact with COVID-19 patients). Moderate levels of PAB/PAA were reported. However, a significant proportion experienced clinically relevant anxiety, as indicated by GAD-7. Negative IPC perceptions correlated with higher levels of psychological distress. Linear regression analysis showed associations between interprofessional collaboration and anxious and depressive symptoms, and pandemic-related burden., Conclusion: Our findings highlight the vital role of enhanced interprofessional collaboration in strengthening the psychological well-being of healthcare professionals during crises. Half-lantern Pt(II) dinuclear complexes [{Pt(C ∧ N pz )(μ-S ∧ N R )} 2 ] (HC ∧ N pz = 1-naphthalen-2-yl-1 H -pyrazole; R = H, HS ∧ N: 2-mercaptopyrimidine 1 ; R = CF 3 , HS ∧ N F : 4-(trifluoromethyl)-2-mercaptopyrimidine 2 ) were selectively obtained as single isomers with the C ∧ N groups in an anti -arrangement and rather short metallophilic interactions ( d Pt-Pt = 2.8684(2) Å for 2 ). They reacted with haloforms in the air and sunlight to obtain the corresponding oxidized diplatinum(III) derivatives [{Pt(C ∧ )(μ-S pz )(μ-S ∧ N R )X} 2 ] (X = Cl ( 1-Cl ), Br ( 1-Br ), I ( 1-I , 2-I )). The single-crystal X-ray structures exhibit Pt-Pt distances typical for the existence of a metal-metal bond, which evidence fairly well the influence of the axial ligand (X). The reactions of 1 and 2 with CHI 3 in the dark afforded mixtures of [IPt(C ∧ )(μ-S pz )(μ-S ∧ N) 2 Pt(C ∧ N pz )CHI 2 ] and 1-I or 2-I , with the former being the major species under an Ar atmosphere, while the reactions of 1 with CHBr 3 and CHCl 3 need light to occur. These Pt 2 (III,III) complexes display low-energy absorptions and emissions that strongly depend on the axial ligand. In the solid state, they show a broad NIR emission ranging from 985 to 1070 nm at RT that suffers a hypsochromic shift when cooling down to 77 K. The photoemissive behavior of the dinuclear Pt(II) and Pt(III) systems is disclosed with the aid of density functional theory calculations.

Introduction: Interprofessional teamwork is pivotal in modern healthcare, prompting the establishment of interprofessional training wards since 1996. While these wards serve as hubs for optimizing healthcare professional collaboration and communication, research into patient outcomes remains notably sparse and geographically limited, predominantly examining patient satisfaction and sparingly exploring other metrics like mortality or self-discharge rates. This study seeks to bridge this gap, comparing patient outcomes in interprofessional training wards and conventional wards under the hypothesis that the former offers no disadvantage to patient outcomes., Materials and Methods: We explored patient outcomes within an interprofessional student ward called A-STAR at a University Hospital from October 2019 to December 2022. Engaging with patients discharged between May 2021 and April 2022, we utilized digital and paper-based anonymous questionnaires, catering to patient preference, to gather pertinent data., Results: Analysis of outcomes for 1,482 A-STAR (interprofessional student ward) and 5,752 conventional ward patients revealed noteworthy findings. A-STAR patients tended to be younger (59 vs. 61 years, p  < 0.01) and more frequently male (73.5% vs. 70.4%, p  = 0.025). Vital clinical outcomes, such as discharges against medical advice, complication-driven readmissions, and ICU transfers, were statistically similar between groups, as were mortality rates (1.2% vs. 1.3%, p  = 0.468). A-STAR demonstrated high patient satisfaction, underscored by positive reflections on team competence, ward atmosphere, and responsiveness to concerns, emphasizing the value placed on interprofessional collaboration. Patient narratives commended team kindness, lucid explanations, and proactive involvement., Discussion: This data collectively underscores the safety and reliability of patient care within training wards, affirming that patients can trust the care provided in these settings. Patients on the interprofessional ward demonstrated high satisfaction levels: 96.7% appreciated the atmosphere and conduct of ward rounds.
