Abstract

Partial least-squares (PLS) is a popular method for the development of data-driven models which in general are locally valid. To account for the time-varying properties of a process and to maintain the performance of a PLS model, the model needs to be updated regularly. In order to reduce the high model updating frequency (which leads to a heavy computational load) in typical adaptive modeling methods, in this work, a model performance assessment method is proposed to detect the significant model degradation, upon which the model updating is activated. Subsequently, a dual updating strategy based on the model performance assessment method is proposed for a moving-window PLS model in an attempt to effectively track the time-varying behavior of a process. Abstract

The Yellow River basin is a key food production centre of global importance facing rapidly growing water scarcity. Water availability for agriculture in the basin is threatened by rapid growth in the demand for industrial and urban water, the need to flush sediment from the river's lower reaches, environmental demands and growing water pollution. Climate change is already evident in the basin with long-term declines in river runoff, higher temperatures, and increasing frequency and intensity of drought. The Chinese government has exhausted most options for improving water supply. The challenge will be to switch to improved water demand management, which is hampered by existing governance structures, and lack of integrated agriculture and water resource policies.

Abstract

In soft sensor modeling, a single model can not accurately describe the complex nonlinear object, and multi-models use static model in many cases, thus the dynamic changes in actual operation of the system are almost not being considered. To overcome this problem, an adaptive soft sensor modeling method based on multi-model dynamic fusion is proposed. In this method, the training samples are first clustered by the affinity propagation algorithm, and then by training each clustering with the Gaussian process regression algorithm, a sub-model is built for each clustering. At last, the predicted values of the sub-models are dynamically fused by adaptive Gauss-Markov estimation. The proposed method is applied to predict the p-xylene (PX) purity in the adsorption separation process. Results indicate that the proposed method actually increases the model's adaptive abilities to various operation conditions and improves its generalization capability.

Abstract

We report here a clinical and molecular study on a case suffer from severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) due to a new type of bunyavirus, named SFTS bunyavirus (SFTSV), in Zhejiang Province China. The key clinical features of this patient include fever, lymphocytopenia and thrombocytopenia. We carried out a serological and molecular investigation in the indicated case and on relatives with close contact. The SFTSV infection was confirmed through amplification of viral genetic material using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) from the patient's serum, but not relatives with close contact. Subsequently direct sequence of PCR product demonstrated a homology of 94-96% in the nucleotide sequence compared to a reference sequence previously reported, in which the majority of patients originated from an epidemic area of Central and Northeast China. Our results suggest that SFTSV can occur in a non-epidemic area due to a similar strain of SFTSV that apparently affect the blood system, implying the importance of dissecting the pathogenesis of SFTS as well as mode of infection.

Abstract

Because the static soft-sensor modeling method can not reflect the dynamic information of the industrial process, a dynamic soft-sensor modeling method based on fuzzy curve and Gaussian process is proposed in this paper to overcome the problem of poor precision and robust of static model. Fuzzy curve is firstly used to manage the dynamic input data, which is corresponding to the output data of each sample time. This step will transform the input data matrix to a vector. These vectors and the corresponding output data are then buildup a new matrix. Last, Gaussian process is used to build soft sensor model based on the new data matrix. This dynamic soft sensor model is used to build 4-CBA soft sensor model in PTA oxidation process. Simulation results indicate that the proposed model is precise and efficient
