1. TIDMAD: Time Series Dataset for Discovering Dark Matter with AI Denoising

Abstract: Dark matter makes up approximately 85% of total matter in our universe, yet it has never been directly observed in any laboratory on Earth. The origin of dark matter is one of the most important questions in contemporary physics, and a convincing detection of dark matter would be a Nobel-Prize-level breakthrough in fundamental science. The ABRACADABRA experiment was specifically designed to search for dark matter. Although it has not yet made a discovery, ABRACADABRA has produced several dark matter search results widely endorsed by the physics community. The experiment generates ultra-long time-series data at a rate of 10 million samples per second, where the dark matter signal would manifest itself as a sinusoidal oscillation mode within the ultra-long time series. In this paper, we present the TIDMAD -- a comprehensive data release from the ABRACADABRA experiment including three key components: an ultra-long time series dataset divided into training, validation, and science subsets; a carefully-designed denoising score for direct model benchmarking; and a complete analysis framework which produces a community-standard dark matter search result suitable for publication as a physics paper. This data release enables core AI algorithms to extract the signal and produce real physics results thereby advancing fundamental science. Abstract: Fundamental neutron physics, combining precision measurements and theory, probes particle physics at short range with reach well beyond the highest energies probed by the LHC. Significant US efforts are underway that will probe BSM CP violation with orders of magnitude more sensitivity, provide new data on the Cabibbo anomaly, more precisely measure the neutron lifetime and decay, and explore hadronic parity violation. World-leading results from the US Fundamental Neutron Physics community since the last Long Range Plan, include the world's most precise measurement of the neutron lifetime from UCN$\tau$, the final results on the beta-asymmetry from UCNA and new results on hadronic parity violation from the NPDGamma and n-${^3}$He runs at the FNPB (Fundamental Neutron Physics Beamline), precision measurement of the radiative neutron decay mode and n-${}^4$He at NIST. US leadership and discovery potential are ensured by the development of new high-impact experiments including BL3, Nab, LANL nEDM and nEDM@SNS. On the theory side, the last few years have seen results for the neutron EDM from the QCD $\theta$ term, a factor of two reduction in the uncertainty for inner radiative corrections in beta-decay which impacts CKM unitarity, and progress on {\it ab initio} calculations of nuclear structure for medium-mass and heavy nuclei which can eventually improve the connection between nuclear and nucleon EDMs. In order to maintain this exciting program and capitalize on past investments while also pursuing new ideas and building US leadership in new areas, the Fundamental Neutron Physics community has identified a number of priorities and opportunities for our sub-field covering the time-frame of the last Long Range Plan (LRP) under development. Abstract: The neutron spin rotation (NSR) collaboration used parity-violating spin rotation of transversely polarized neutrons transmitted through a 0.5 m liquid helium target to constrain weak coupling constants between nucleons. While consistent with theoretical expectation, the upper limit set by this measurement on the rotation angle is limited by statistical uncertainties. The NSR collaboration is preparing a new measurement to improve this statistically-limited result by about an order of magnitude. In addition to using the new high-flux NG-C beam at the NIST Center for Neutron Research, the apparatus was upgraded to take advantage of the larger-area and more divergent NG-C beam. Significant improvements are also being made to the cryogenic design. Details of these improvements and readiness of the upgraded apparatus are presented. We also comment on how recent theoretical work combining effective field theory techniques with the 1/Nc expansion of QCD along with previous NN weak measurements can be used to make a prediction for dϕ/dz in 4He. An experiment using the same apparatus with a room-temperature target was carried out at LANSCE to place limits on parity-conserving rotations from possible fifth-force interactions to complement previous studies. We sought this interaction using a slow neutron polarimeter that passed transversely polarized slow neutrons by unpolarized slabs of material arranged so that this interaction would tilt the plane of polarization and develop a component along the neutron momentum. The results of this measurement and its impact on the neutron-matter coupling gA2 from such an interaction are presented. The NSR collaboration is also preparing a new measurement that uses an upgraded version of the room-temperature target to be run on the NG-C beamline; and it is expected to constrain gA2 by at least two additional orders of magnitude for λc between 1 cm and 1 μm.

Abstract: Neutron beta decay is one of the most fundamental processes in nuclear physics and provides sensitive means to uncover the details of the weak interaction. Neutron beta decay can evaluate the ratio of axial-vector to vector coupling constants in the standard model, λ = gA/gV, through multiple decay correlations. The Nab experiment will carry out measurements of the electron-neutrino correlation parameter a with a precision of δa/a = 10−3 and the Fierz interference term b to δb = 3 × 10−3 in unpolarized free neutron beta decay. These results, along with a more precise measurement of the neutron lifetime, aim to deliver an independent determination of the ratio λ with a precision of δλ/λ = 0.03% that will allow an evaluation of Vud and sensitively test CKM unitarity, independent of nuclear models. Nab utilizes a novel, long asymmetric spectrometer that guides the decay electron and proton to two large area silicon detectors in order to precisely determine the electron energy and an estimation of the proton momentum from the proton time of flight. The Nab spectrometer is being commissioned at the Fundamental Neutron Physics Beamline at the Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Lab. We present an overview of the Nab experiment and recent updates on the spectrometer, analysis, and systematic effects.

Abstract: DMRadio-m$^3$ is an experiment that is designed to be sensitive to KSVZ and DFSZ QCD axion models in the 10-200 MHz (41 neV$/c^2$ - 0.83 $\mu$eV/$c^2$) range. The experiment uses a solenoidal dc magnetic field to convert an axion dark-matter signal to an ac electromagnetic response in a coaxial copper pickup. The current induced by this axion signal is measured by dc SQUIDs. In this work, we present the electromagnetic modeling of the response of the experiment to an axion signal over the full frequency range of DMRadio-m$^3$, which extends from the low-frequency, lumped-element limit to a regime where the axion Compton wavelength is only a factor of two larger than the detector size. With these results, we determine the live time and sensitivity of the experiment. The primary science goal of sensitivity to DFSZ axions across 30-200 MHz can be achieved with a $3\sigma$ live scan time of 3.7 years., Comment: 14 pages, 6 figures

Abstract: In this paper we present new results on upper limits for the search of Heavy Neutral Leptons (HNL) with data collected by NA48/2 (2003-2004), NA62-RK (2007) and NA62 (2015) CERN experiments. The data collected with different trigger configuration allow to search for both long and short living heavy neutrinos in the mass range below the kaon mass. In addition the status of the search for K+ → π+vv with the NA62 detector will be briefly presented.

Abstract: A timely and long-term programme of kaon decay measurements at a new level of precision is presented, leveraging the capabilities of the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS). The proposed programme is firmly anchored on the experience built up studying kaon decays at the SPS over the past four decades, and includes rare processes, CP violation, dark sectors, symmetry tests and other tests of the Standard Model. The experimental programme is based on a staged approach involving experiments with charged and neutral kaon beams, as well as operation in beam-dump mode. Abstract: We report a measurement of two energy-weighted gamma cascade angular distributions from polarized slow neutron capture on the ${}^{35}$Cl nucleus, one parity-odd correlation proportional to $\vec{s_{n}} \cdot \vec{k_{\gamma}}$ and one parity-even correlation proportional to $\vec{s_{n}} \cdot \vec{k_{n}} \times \vec{k_{\gamma}}$. A parity violating asymmetry can appear in this reaction due to the weak nucleon-nucleon (NN) interaction which mixes opposite parity S and P-wave levels in the excited compound $^{36}$Cl nucleus formed upon slow neutron capture. If parity-violating (PV) and parity-conserving (PC) terms both exist, the measured differential cross section can be related to them via $\frac{d\sigma}{d\Omega}\propto1+A_{\gamma, PV}\cos\theta+A_{\gamma,PC}\sin\theta$. The PV and PC asymmetries for energy-weighted gamma cascade angular distributions for polarized slow neutron capture on $^{35}$Cl averaged over the neutron energies from 2.27~meV to 9.53~meV were measured to be $A_{\gamma,PV}=(-23.9\pm0.7)\times 10^{-6}$ and $A_{\gamma,PC}=(0.1\pm0.7)\times 10^{-6}$. These results are consistent with previous experimental results. Systematic errors were quantified and shown to be small compared to the statistical error. These asymmetries in the angular distributions of the gamma rays emitted from the capture of polarized neutrons in $^{35}$Cl were used to verify the operation and data analysis procedures for the NPDGamma experiment which measured the parity-odd asymmetry in the angular distribution of gammas from polarized slow neutron capture on protons.

Abstract: The QCD axion is one of the most compelling candidates to explain the dark matter abundance of the universe. With its extremely small mass ($\ll 1\,\mathrm{eV}/c^2$), axion dark matter interacts as a classical field rather than a particle. Its coupling to photons leads to a modification of Maxwell's equations that can be measured with extremely sensitive readout circuits. DMRadio-m$^3$ is a next-generation search for axion dark matter below $1\,\mu$eV using a $>4$ T static magnetic field, a coaxial inductive pickup, a tunable LC resonator, and a DC-SQUID readout. It is designed to search for QCD axion dark matter over the range $20\,\mathrm{neV}\lesssim m_ac^2\lesssim 800\,\mathrm{neV}$ ($5\,\mathrm{MHz}<\nu<200\,\mathrm{MHz}$). Abstract: The Muon g-2 Experiment at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (FNAL) has measured the muon anomalous precession frequency $\omega_a$ to an uncertainty of 434 parts per billion (ppb), statistical, and 56 ppb, systematic, with data collected in four storage ring configurations during its first physics run in 2018. When combined with a precision measurement of the magnetic field of the experiment's muon storage ring, the precession frequency measurement determines a muon magnetic anomaly of $a_{\mu}({\rm FNAL}) = 116\,592\,040(54) \times 10^{-11}$ (0.46 ppm). This article describes the multiple techniques employed in the reconstruction, analysis and fitting of the data to measure the precession frequency. Abstract: We present the first results of the Fermilab Muon g-2 Experiment for the positive muon magnetic anomaly $a_\mu \equiv (g_\mu-2)/2$. The anomaly is determined from the precision measurements of two angular frequencies. Intensity variation of high-energy positrons from muon decays directly encodes the difference frequency $\omega_a$ between the spin-precession and cyclotron frequencies for polarized muons in a magnetic storage ring. The storage ring magnetic field is measured using nuclear magnetic resonance probes calibrated in terms of the equivalent proton spin precession frequency ${\tilde{\omega}'^{}_p}$ in a spherical water sample at 34.7$^{\circ}$C. The ratio $\omega_a / {\tilde{\omega}'^{}_p}$, together with known fundamental constants, determines $a_\mu({\rm FNAL}) = 116\,592\,040(54)\times 10^{-11}$ (0.46\,ppm). The result is 3.3 standard deviations greater than the standard model prediction and is in excellent agreement with the previous Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) E821 measurement. After combination with previous measurements of both $\mu^+$ and $\mu^-$, the new experimental average of $a_\mu({\rm Exp}) = 116\,592\,061(41)\times 10^{-11}$ (0.35\,ppm) increases the tension between experiment and theory to 4.2 standard deviations, Comment: 10 pages; 4 figures

Abstract: This paper presents the beam dynamics systematic corrections and their uncertainties for the Run-1 data set of the Fermilab Muon g-2 Experiment. Two corrections to the measured muon precession frequency $\omega_a^m$ are associated with well-known effects owing to the use of electrostatic quadrupole (ESQ) vertical focusing in the storage ring. An average vertically oriented motional magnetic field is felt by relativistic muons passing transversely through the radial electric field components created by the ESQ system. The correction depends on the stored momentum distribution and the tunes of the ring, which has relatively weak vertical focusing. Vertical betatron motions imply that the muons do not orbit the ring in a plane exactly orthogonal to the vertical magnetic field direction. A correction is necessary to account for an average pitch angle associated with their trajectories. A third small correction is necessary because muons that escape the ring during the storage time are slightly biased in initial spin phase compared to the parent distribution. Finally, because two high-voltage resistors in the ESQ network had longer than designed RC time constants, the vertical and horizontal centroids and envelopes of the stored muon beam drifted slightly, but coherently, during each storage ring fill. This led to the discovery of an important phase-acceptance relationship that requires a correction. The sum of the corrections to $\omega_a^m$ is 0.50 $\pm$ 0.09 ppm; the uncertainty is small compared to the 0.43 ppm statistical precision of $\omega_a^m$., Comment: 35 pages, 29 figures. Abstract: Neutron beta decay is one of the most fundamental processes in nuclear physics and provides sensitive means to uncover the details of the weak interaction. Neutron beta decay can evaluate the ratio of axial-vector to vector coupling constants in the standard model, $\lambda = g_A / g_V$, through multiple decay correlations. The Nab experiment will carry out measurements of the electron-neutrino correlation parameter $a$ with a precision of $\delta a / a = 10^{-3}$ and the Fierz interference term $b$ to $\delta b = 3\times10^{-3}$ in unpolarized free neutron beta decay. These results, along with a more precise measurement of the neutron lifetime, aim to deliver an independent determination of the ratio $\lambda$ with a precision of $\delta \lambda / \lambda = 0.03\%$ that will allow an evaluation of $V_{ud}$ and sensitively test CKM unitarity, independent of nuclear models. Nab utilizes a novel, long asymmetric spectrometer that guides the decay electron and proton to two large area silicon detectors in order to precisely determine the electron energy and an estimation of the proton momentum from the proton time of flight. The Nab spectrometer is being commissioned at the Fundamental Neutron Physics Beamline at the Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Lab. Abstract: We report the first observation of the parity-violating 2.2 MeV gamma-ray asymmetry $A^{np}_\gamma$ in neutron-proton capture using polarized cold neutrons incident on a liquid parahydrogen target at the Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. $A^{np}_\gamma$ isolates the $\Delta I=1$, \mbox{$^{3}S_{1}\rightarrow {^{3}P_{1}}$} component of the weak nucleon-nucleon interaction, which is dominated by pion exchange and can be directly related to a single coupling constant in either the DDH meson exchange model or pionless EFT. We measured $A^{np}_\gamma = [-3.0 \pm 1.4 (stat) \pm 0.2 (sys)]\times 10^{-8}$, which implies a DDH weak $\pi NN$ coupling of $h_{\pi}^{1} = [2.6 \pm 1.2(stat) \pm 0.2(sys)] \times 10^{-7}$ and a pionless EFT constant of $C^{^{3}S_{1}\rightarrow ^{3}P_{1}}/C_{0}=[-7.4 \pm 3.5 (stat) \pm 0.5 (sys)] \times 10^{-11}$ MeV$^{-1}$. Abstract: $K^{+}\rightarrow\pi^{+}\nu\overline{\nu}$ is one of the theoretically cleanest meson decay where to look for indirect effects of new physics complementary to LHC searches. The NA62 experiment at CERN SPS is designed to measure the branching ratio of this decay with 10\% precision. NA62 took data in pilot runs in 2014 and 2015 reaching the final designed beam intensity. Abstract: Accurately measuring the neutron beam polarization of a high flux, large area neutron beam is necessary for many neutron physics experiments. The Fundamental Neutron Physics Beamline (FnPB) at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) is a pulsed neutron beam that was polarized with a supermirror polarizer for the NPDGamma experiment. The polarized neutron beam had a flux of $\sim10^9$ neutrons per second per cm$^2$ and a cross sectional area of 10$\times$12~cm$^2$. The polarization of this neutron beam and the efficiency of a RF neutron spin rotator installed downstream on this beam were measured by neutron transmission through a polarized $^{3}$He neutron spin-filter. The pulsed nature of the SNS enabled us to employ an absolute measurement technique for both quantities which does not depend on accurate knowledge of the phase space of the neutron beam or the $^{3}$He polarization in the spin filter and is therefore of interest for any experiments on slow neutron beams from pulsed neutron sources which require knowledge of the absolute value of the neutron polarization. The polarization and spin-reversal efficiency measured in this work were done for the NPDGamma experiment, which measures the parity violating $\gamma$-ray angular distribution asymmetry with respect to the neutron spin direction in the capture of polarized neutrons on protons. 26. Generalized Biplots for Multidimensional Scaled Projections

Abstract: Dimension reduction and visualization is a staple of data analytics. Methods such as Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) provide low dimensional (LD) projections of high dimensional (HD) data while preserving an HD relationship between observations. Traditional biplots assign meaning to the LD space of a PCA projection by displaying LD axes for the attributes. These axes, however, are specific to the linear projection used in PCA. MDS projections, which allow for arbitrary stress and dissimilarity functions, require special care when labeling the LD space. We propose an iterative scheme to plot an LD axis for each attribute based on the user-specified stress and dissimilarity metrics. We discuss the details of our general biplot methodology, its relationship with PCA-derived biplots, and provide examples using real data.

27. Nodal structures of few electron atoms

Abstract: In this paper the nodal structure for He atom is revisited and a procedure for identifying the symmetry properties and nodal structure of the time and spin independent Schroedinger equation will be presented. Application are made to the few electron atoms, and explicit, new nodal surface equations given for states of various symmetries. In the construction of trial functions for variational calculations in quantum mechanics, and in the choice of nodal surfaces needed in Monte Carlo calculations to obtain fermion solutions to Schroedinger equation for spin independent Hamiltonians, the accuracy of the calculations can be strongly influenced by the initial choice of the trial functions. We incorporated these newly found nodal conditions in the trial functions and energy eigenvalues were calculated with a better accuracy for different symmetries.

28. Multi-Control Over Graphene-Molecule Hetereo-Junctions

Abstract: The vertical configuration is a powerful tool recently developed experimentally to investigate field effects in quasi 2D systems. Prototype graphene-based vertical tunneling transistors can achieve an extraordinary control over current density utilizing gate voltages. In this work we study theoretically vertical tunneling junctions that consist of a monolayer of photo-switchable aryl-azobenzene molecules of sandwiched between two sheets of graphene. Azobenzene molecules transform between {\it trans} and {\it cis} conformations upon photoexcitation, thus adding a second knob that enhances control over physical properties of the junction. Using first-principles methods within the density functional framework, we perform simulations with the inclusion of field effects for both {\it trans} and {\it cis} configurations. We find that the interference of interface states resulting from molecule-graphene interactions at the Fermi energy introduces a dual-peak pattern in the transmission functions and dominates the transport properties of gate junctions, shedding new light on interfacial processes., Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures

29. Ferroelectricity in $\mathbf{BiMnO_3}$ Thin Films

Abstract: The existence of ferroelectricity in {$\mathrm{BiMnO}_3$} has been a long-standing question for both experimentalists and theorists. In addition to a highly distorted bulk structure, the ionic crystal planes cause a large roughness in thin films that makes it extremely difficult to nail down the physical mechanisms underlying a possible ferroelectric-ferromagnetic phase. We approach the problem by including the substrate explicitly to study the polarization. With this model, we investigate mono-, di-, and trilayer {$\mathrm{BiMnO}_3$} thin films on $\mathrm{SrTiO}_3$ substrates. We find that thin film systems have both strong ferromagnetism and strong ferroelectricity. Substrate constraints weaken the competition between displacements induced by stereochemically active Bi-$6s^2$ lone pairs and by Jahn-Teller distortions around Mn ions found in the bulk, such that the sum of off-center displacements of Bi ions in bulk {$\mathrm{BiMnO}_3$} nearly cancel. In {$\mathrm{BiMnO}_3$} thin films, in contrast, all Bi ions displace roughly in parallel, resulting in a strongly polar structure. We also find spontaneous charge disproportionation of Mn ion pairs in {$\mathrm{BiMnO}_3$} thin films., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures

30. The He atom revisited

Abstract: In the Feynman-Kac[1] path integral approach the eigenvalues of a quantum system can be computed using Wiener measure which uses Brownian particle motion. In our previous work[2-3] on such systems we have observed that the Wiener process numerically converges slowly for dimensions greater than two because almost all trajectories will escape to infinity[4]. One can speed up this process by using a Generalized Feynman-Kac (GFK) method[5] in which the new measure associated with the trial function is stationary, so that the convergence rate becomes much faster. We thus achieve an example of Importance Sampling and in the present work we apply it to the Feynman-Kac(FK) path integrals for the ground and first few excited state energies for He to speed up the convergence rate. We calculate the path integrals using space averaging rather than the time averaging as done in the past. The best previous calculations from Variational computations report precisions of Hartrees, whereas in most cases our path integral results obtained for the ground and first excited states of He are lower than these results by about Hartrees or more.

Abstract: We describe a detection system designed for precise measurements of angular correlations in neutron $\beta$ decay. The system is based on thick, large area, highly segmented silicon detectors developed in collaboration with Micron Semiconductor, Ltd. The prototype system meets specifications for $\beta$ electron detection with energy thresholds below 10 keV, energy resolution of $\sim$3 keV FWHM, and rise time of $\sim$50 ns with 19 of the 127 detector pixels instrumented. Using ultracold neutrons at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center, we have demonstrated the coincident detection of $\beta$ particles and recoil protons from neutron $\beta$ decay. The fully instrumented detection system will be implemented in the UCNB and Nab experiments, to determine the neutron $\beta$ decay parameters $B$, $a$, and $b$., Comment: Copyright 2016. 37. Electronic resistances of multilayered two-dimensional crystal junctions

Abstract: We carry out a layer-by-layer investigation to understand electron transport across metal-insulator-metal junctions. Interfacial structures of junctions were studied and characterized using first-principles density functional theory within the generalized gradient approximation. We found that as a function of the number of crystal layers the calculated transmission coefficients of multilayer silicene junctions decay much slower than for BN-based junctions We revisited the semiclassical Boltzmann theory of electronic transport and applied to multilayer silicene and BN-based junctions. The calculated resistance in the high-transmission regime is smaller than that provided by the Landauer formula. As the thickness of the barrier increases, results from the Boltzmann and the Landauer formulae converge. We provide a upper limit in the transmission coefficient below which, the Landauer method becomes valid. Quantitatively, when the transmission coefficient is lower than $ \sim 0.05 $ per channel, the error introduced by the Landauer formula for calculating the resistance is negligible. In addition, we found that the resistance of a junction is not entirely determined by the averaged transmission, but also by the distribution of the transmission over the first Brillouin zone., Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures

Abstract: We report a measurement of the time-dependent CP asymmetry of B0->D(*)CP h0 decays, where the light neutral hadron h0 is a pi0, eta or omega meson, and the neutral D meson is reconstructed in the CP eigenstates K+ K-, K0S pi0 or K0S omega. The measurement is performed combining the final data samples collected at the Y(4S) resonance by the BaBar and Belle experiments at the asymmetric-energy B factories PEP-II at SLAC and KEKB at KEK, respectively. The data samples contain ( 471 +/- 3 ) x 10^6 BB pairs recorded by the BaBar detector and ( 772 +/- 11 ) x 10^6, BB pairs recorded by the Belle detector. We measure the CP asymmetry parameters -eta_f S = +0.66 +/- 0.10 (stat.) +/- 0.06 (syst.) and C = -0.02 +/- 0.07 (stat.) +/- 0.03 (syst.). These results correspond to the first observation of CP violation in B0->D(*)CP h0 decays. Abstract: Liquid hydrogen is a dense Bose fluid whose equilibrium properties are both calculable from first principles using various theoretical approaches and of interest for the understanding of a wide range of questions in many body physics. Unfortunately, the pair correlation function $g(r)$ inferred from neutron scattering measurements of the differential cross section $d\sigma \over d\Omega$ from different measurements reported in the literature are inconsistent. We have measured the energy dependence of the total cross section and the scattering cross section for slow neutrons with energies between 0.43~meV and 16.1~meV on liquid hydrogen at 15.6~K (which is dominated by the parahydrogen component) using neutron transmission measurements on the hydrogen target of the NPDGamma collaboration at the Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The relationship between the neutron transmission measurement we perform and the total cross section is unambiguous, and the energy range accesses length scales where the pair correlation function is rapidly varying. At 1~meV our measurement is a factor of 3 below the data from previous work. We present evidence that these previous measurements of the hydrogen cross section, which assumed that the equilibrium value for the ratio of orthohydrogen and parahydrogen has been reached in the target liquid, were in fact contaminated with an extra non-equilibrium component of orthohydrogen. Liquid parahydrogen is also a widely-used neutron moderator medium, and an accurate knowledge of its slow neutron cross section is essential for the design and optimization of intense slow neutron sources. Abstract: We describe searches for B meson decays to the charmless vector-vector final states omega omega and omega phi with 471 x 10^6 B Bbar pairs produced in e+ e- annihilation at sqrt(s) = 10.58 GeV using the BABAR detector at the PEP-II collider at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. We measure the branching fraction B(B0 --> omega omega) = (1.2 +- 0.3 +0.3-0.2) x 10^-6, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic, corresponding to a significance of 4.4 standard deviations. We also determine the upper limit B(B0 --> omega phi) < 0.7 x 10^-6 at 90% confidence level. These measurements provide the first evidence for the decay B0 --> omega omega, and an improvement of the upper limit for the decay B0 --> omega phi., Comment: 7 pages, 2 postscript figures

43. Generalized Dirac and Klein-Gordon equations for spinor wavefunctions

Abstract: A novel method is developed to derive the original Dirac equation and demonstrate that it is the only Poincare invariant dynamical equation for 4-component spinor wavefunctions. New Poincare invariant generalized Dirac and Klein-Gordon equations are also derived. In the non-relativistic limit the generalized Dirac equation gives the generalized Levy-Leblond equation and the generalized Pauli-Schrodinger equation. The main difference between the original and generalized Dirac equations is that the former and latter are obtained with zero and nonzero phase functions, respectively. Otherwise, both equations describe free elementary particles with spin 1/2, which have all other physical properties the same except their masses. The fact that the generalized Dirac equation describes elementary particles with larger masses is used to suggest that non-zero phase functions may account for the existence of three families of elementary particles in the Standard Model. This suggestion significantly differs from those previously made to account for the three families of particle physics., Comment: 21 pages

Abstract: We study scaling behaviour of statistics of voids in the context of the halo model of nonlinear large-scale structure. The halo model allows us to understand why the observed galaxy void probability obeys hierarchical scaling, even though the premise from which the scaling is derived is not satisfied. We argue that the commonly observed negative binomial scaling is not fundamental, but merely the result of the specific values of bias and number density for typical galaxies. 45. Electron Transport Through Ag-Silicene-Ag Junctions

Abstract: For several years the electronic structure properties of the novel two-dimensional system silicene have been studied extensively. Electron transport across metal-silicence junctions, however, remains relatively unexplored. To address this issue, we developed and implemented a theoretical framework that utilizes the tight-binding Fisher-Lee relation to span non-equilibrium Green's function (NEGF) techniques, the scattering method, and semiclassical Boltzmann transport theory. Within this hybrid quantum-classical, two-scale framework, we calculated transmission and reflection coefficients of monolayer and bilayer Ag-silicene-Ag junctions using the NEGF method in conjunction with density functional theory; derived and calculated the group velocities; and computed resistance using the semi-classical Boltzmann equation. We found that resistances of these junctions are $\sim${}$ 0.08 \fom$ for monolayer silicene junctions and $\sim${}$ 0.3 \fom$ for bilayer ones, factors of $\sim$8 and $\sim$2, respectively, smaller than Sharvin resistances estimated via the Landauer formalism., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

Abstract: We study the decay $\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrow\Lambda_{c}^{+}\bar{p}\pi^{+}\pi^{-}$, reconstructing the \Lambda_{c}^{+} baryon in the $p K^{-}\pi^{+}$ mode, using a data sample of $467\times 10^{6}$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-2 storage rings at SLAC. We measure branching fractions for decays with intermediate $\Sigma_{c}$ baryons to be ${\cal B}[\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrow\Sigma_{c}(2455)^{++}\bar{p}\pi^{-}]=(21.3 \pm 1.0 \pm 1.0 \pm 5.5) \times 10^{-5}$, ${\cal B}[\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrow\Sigma_{c}(2520)^{++}\bar{p}\pi^{-}]=(11.5\pm 1.0 \pm 0.5 \pm 3.0)\times 10^{-5}$, ${\cal B}[\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrow\Sigma_{c}(2455)^{0}\bar{p}\pi^{+}]=(9.1 \pm 0.7 \pm 0.4 \pm 2.4)\times10^{-5}$, and ${\cal B}[\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrow\Sigma_{c}(2520)^{0}\bar{p}\pi^{+}]= (2.2 \pm 0.7 \pm 0.1\pm 0.6) \times 10^{-5}$, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the uncertainty on the $\Lambda_{c}^{+}\rightarrow\proton\Km\pi^{+}$ branching fraction, respectively. For decays without $\Sigma_{c}(2455)$ or $\Sigma_{c}(2520)$ resonances, we measure ${\cal B}[\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrow\Lambda_{c}^{+}\bar{p}\pi^{+}\pi^{-}]_{\mathrm{non-\Sigma_{c}}}=(79 \pm 4 \pm 4 \pm 20)\times10^{-5}$. The total branching fraction is determined to be ${\cal B}[\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrow\Lambda_{c}^{+}\bar{p}\pi^{+}\pi^{-}]_{\mathrm{total}}=(123 \pm 5 \pm 7 \pm 32)\times10^{-5}$. We examine multibody mass combinations in the resonant three-particle $\Sigma_{c}\bar{p}\pi$ final states and in the four-particle $\Lambda_{c}^{+}\bar{p}\pi^{+}\pi^{-}$ final state, and observe different characteristics for the $\bar{p}\pi$ combination in neutral versus doubly-charged $\Sigma_{c}$ decays., Comment: 20 pages, 30 figures

Abstract: We report on a search for direct CP asymmetry in the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay D+- --> K+ K- pi+- using a data sample of 476 fb-1 accumulated with the BaBar detector running at and just below the Y(4S) resonance. The CP-violating decay rate asymmetry A_CP is determined to be (0.35 +- 0.30 +- 0.15)%. Abstract: We report the results of a study of the exclusive charmless semileptonic decays, B^0 --> pi^- l^+ nu, B^+ --> pi^0 l^+ nu, B^+ --> omega l^+ nu, B^+ --> eta l^+ nu and B^+ --> eta^' l^+ nu, (l = e or mu) undertaken with approximately 462x10^6 B\bar{B} pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector. The analysis uses events in which the signal B decays are reconstructed with a loose neutrino reconstruction technique. We obtain partial branching fractions in several bins of q^2, the square of the momentum transferred to the lepton-neutrino pair, for B^0 --> pi^- l^+ nu, B^+ --> pi^0 l^+ nu, B^+ --> omega l^+ nu and B^+ --> eta l^+ nu. From these distributions, we extract the form-factor shapes f_+(q^2) and the total branching fractions BF(B^0 --> pi^- l^+ nu) = (1.45 +/- 0.04_{stat} +/- 0.06_{syst})x10^-4 (combined pi^- and pi^0 decay channels assuming isospin symmetry), BF(B^+ --> omega l^+ nu) = (1.19 +/- 0.16_{stat} +/- 0.09_{syst})x10^-4 and BF(B^+ --> eta l^+ nu) = (0.38 +/- 0.05_{stat} +/- 0.05_{syst})x10^-4. We also measure BF(B^+ --> eta^' l^+ nu) = (0.24 +/- 0.08_{stat} +/- 0.03_{syst})x10^-4. We obtain values for the magnitude of the CKM matrix element V_{ub} by direct comparison with three different QCD calculations in restricted q^2 ranges of B --> pi l^+ nu decays. From a simultaneous fit to the experimental data over the full q^2 range and the FNAL/MILC lattice QCD predictions, we obtain |V_{ub}| = (3.25 +/- 0.31)x10^-3, where the error is the combined experimental and theoretical uncertainty., Comment: 35 pages, 14 figures, submitted to PRD
