Hydrogen embrittlement (HE) in API 5L X70 steel was investigated by testing notched and unnotched uniaxial tensile specimens and single-edge tension specimen, SE(T). Apparent hydrogen diffusivity (Dapp = 1.4 x 10-10 m2/s) and solubility (Sapp = 4.9 mol H/m3) were determined by electrochemical hydrogen permeation tests. Through mathematical fitting, it was possible to separate the strong traps present at the beginning of the first permeation curve (φ = 0.43 mol H/m3). Uniaxial tensile tests showed a loss of ductility of up to 33% in the hydrogenated condition. Fracture mechanics tests exhibited a toughness decrease of 14% after exposure to hydrogen. The high resistance to HE was presented suggesting that these microalloyed steels can solubilize hydrogen in the matrix with low segregation, reducing the impact on embrittlement. A mix of ductile and quasi-cleavage fracture was observed in the hydrogenated samples with an increased stress triaxiality.

The conservation status of pollinators and pollination in Latin America (LA) is reviewed. The knowledge regarding native and managed pollinators (e.g., honeybee and stingless bees) and pollination services was synthetized, and the guidelines to improve the opportunities for conservation are provided, considering the threats to pollinators and the perspectives from traditional and local knowledge. The analysis indicates that diverse threats (e.g., large-scale agriculture, deforestation, overuse of agrochemicals) are linked with pollination and pollinator decline, which affect the reproduction of most native plants and the yields of many crops. LA harbours the highest bee diversity worldwide, with 26% of the total recorded species, and it is a biodiversity hotspot of vertebrate pollinators, including hummingbirds, perching birds, nectarivorous bats and other mammal pollinators. Specific recommendations to conserve native pollinators and to improve pollination services are provided, which could be considered by stakeholders and governments aiming to elaborate biocultural conservation. For example, introducing policies and legal responses for incentives to help farmers maintain natural habitats and forests, to replace or reduce agrochemicals and to improve diversified crop production with agroecological practices; refining agrochemical regulations to minimize the exposure of pollinators to insecticides and herbicides; improving knowledge and education on pollinators and pollination gives societies worldwide the opportunity to change current hegemonic agricultural practices and consumption paerns; integrating different land ethical views of ethnic minorities on a sustainable relationship between production and biodiversity. A wider view combining social, ecological, cultural dimensions may support beer decision making. This holistic socio-agroecological perspective is urgently needed to conserve and manage pollinators at different spatial and temporal scales, and to integrate pollination services, pollinator-friendly habitat management approaches and diversified farming systems. Se realizó una revisión sobre el estado de conservación de los polinizadores y la polinización en América Latina (LA). Se presentan pautas para mejorar las oportunidades de conservación, considerando las amenazas a los polinizadores y las perspectivas desde el conocimiento tradicional y local. El análisis indica que diversas amenazas (e.g., agricultura a gran escala, deforestación, uso excesivo de agroquímicos) están vinculadas con la disminución de polinizadores, afectando la reproducción de las plantas nativas y los rendimientos de muchos cultivos. LA alberga la mayor diversidad de abejas en todo el mundo y una gran diversidad de polinizadores vertebrados (e.g., colibríes, aves de percha nectarívoras, murciélagos nectarívoros y otros mamíferos). Se proporcionan recomendaciones para proteger los polinizadores nativos y mejorar los servicios de polinización, las que podrían ser consideradas por los tomadores de decisiones y así promover la conservación biocultural. Por ejemplo, desarrollar instrumentos legales, políticas e incentivos para ayudar a los agricultores a mantener los hábitats naturales, para reemplazar o reducir el uso de agroquímicos y para promover las prácticas agroecológicas; perfeccionar las reglamentaciones sobre aplicación de agroquímicos para minimizar la exposición de los polinizadores a insecticidas y herbicidas; mejorar la comunicación pública del conocimiento sobre los polinizadores y la polinización para incentivar un cambio en las prácticas agrícolas hegemónicas y los patrones de consumo actuales; considerar otras éticas ambientales de las minorías étnicas para enfatizar la necesidad de promover una relación sostenible entre producción de alimentos y biodiversidad. Se necesita urgentemente una visión más amplia que combine las dimensiones sociales, ecológicas y culturales para una mejor toma de decisiones. Esta perspectiva socio-agroecológica holística es importante para conservar y gestionar los polinizadores a diferentes escalas espaciales y temporales, y para poder integrar los servicios de polinización con enfoques de gestión del territorio favorables a los polinizadores y con sistemas agrícolas diversificados.

Introduction: Hemophilia B is an X-linked bleeding disorder caused by molecular defects in the Factor IX gene (F9), leading to either deficiency or functional abnormality of Factor IX. Actual data indicate a high heterogeneity of variants in F9. Over 1000 different variants have been reported, including pathogenic single nucleotide variants (SNPs), indels and complex variants. Materials and Methods: 86 index patients and 313 relatives were studied. F9 variant analysis was performed from total genomic DNA by PCR followed either by SSCP and DNA sequencing or direct DNA sequencing. When no variant was detected by sequencing, F9 analysis by MLPA was performed. Segregation studies were performed in each family. Results: Overall, 52 different F9 variants have been identified, including 49 SNPs or small indels, a gross duplication (exons 2-6) and two deletions of the entire gene. Ten of the variants had been firstly reported by us and three are novel: c.391+5G>T; c.432T>G, p.(Phe144Leu) and c.749C>A, p.(Ala250Glu). This approach allowed establishing the carrier state of over 300 women and 12 prenatal diagnoses were performed. Conclusions: The spectrum of F9 variants identified in the Portuguese population significantly overlaps that observed in other populations. Identification of F9 gene variants in patients allows genotype-phenotype correlations and carrier detection, as well as prenatal diagnosis. Sanger sequencing of the coding region and adjacent intronic sequences of F9 still remains a valid and effective tool for the molecular study of hemophila B, providing information for appropriate genetic counseling and new insights regarding the molecular basis of the pathology. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

Entende-se por primeiros socorros os cuidados iniciais prestados as vítimas de acidente ou mal súbito, estes permitem uma estabilização clínica da vitima, impedindo o agravamento de lesões e minimizando o surgimento de sequelas. O presente trabalho teve por objetivo promover capacitações frente às situações de urgência/emergência em escolas por grupo de primeira resposta. A extensão foi realizada em três escolas públicas na cidade de Cajazeiras-PB, no período de setembro a dezembro de 2018, com ações voltadas para discentes e docentes das referidas instituições. As ações se deram por meio de apresentações dialogadas, palestras e aulas práticas que contemplaram assuntos como: engasgos, parada cardíaca, afogamento, desmaio, choque elétrico e hemorragias. O estudo viabilizou a transformação social e a produção de conhecimentos, possibilitando que todos os envolvidos exercitassem sua cidadania mediante a promoção de uma reflexão crítica acerca de questões relevantes para nossa sociedade.

The aim of this study was to evaluate two maize genotypes with contrasting drought-resistant phenotypic traits and to characterize how the plastic phenotypic traits contribute to yield potential under drought. The maize genotypes DKB 390 and BRS 1010 present contrasting yield traits in relation to drought and were treated with two water regimes: well-watered plant (WW, ??2 kPa) and water deficit (WD, ??100 kPa). In WD conditions, DKB 390 had a greater capacity to accumulate biomass in shoots than BRS 1010, indicating that shoot traits are important in increasing yield gain in the DKB 390 drought tolerant genotype and therefore, an important phenotypic trait for breeding for high yield in drought conditions. However, neither the total root dry mass nor its ratio to the shoot was related to increased yield. A large reduction in gas exchange and increased water use efficiency was observed in BRS 1010 compared to DKB 390. These traits are likely related to yield loss mainly due to decreased transpiration rate and stomatal conductance, which led to low photosynthetic rates and reduced growth. The root angle between genotypes was a constitutive trait and can be primarily responsible for the differences in yield. However, this trait in the DKB 390 genotype was affected by WD, as indicated by narrowing of the root angle. Our work describes the relationship between the narrow root growth angle in DKB 390 and its association with an increased capacity for water uptake in deeper regions, which may result in higher yield under drought. Regarding leaf anatomy we hypothesized that both osmotic adjustment and cell wall properties can influence anisotropic cell expansion under WD conditions and result in leaf tissue with higher yield potential in DKB 390. The high plasticity of vascular tissues and wide vessels could indicate a greater propensity for embolism and a slower response to WD, leading to yield loss in BRS 1010. The results of the phenotypic plasticity of maize genotypes show a negative relationship between high plasticity and yield potential and suggest that high plasticity can result in higher yield potential only when are present in phenotypic traits responsible for higher water uptake and drought tolerance. As incubadoras de empresas participam do ecossistema de inovação viabilizando desenvolvimento e inovação tecnológicos. As incubadoras são entidades promotoras de empreendimentos inovadores e têm por objetivo oferecer suporte a empreendedores para que eles possam desenvolver ideias inovadoras e transformá-las em empreendimentos de sucesso. As incubadoras de empresas são de base tecnológica quando a tecnologia representa alto valor agregado, geralmente originados de pesquisa científica. O objetivo dessa pesquisa foi caracterizar as Incubadoras de Base Tecnológica no Estado do Espírito Santo, mostrando o seu papel, sua origem, seu funcionamento, os resultados obtidos, as dificuldades enfrentadas e as perspectivas futuras. Foram realizados estudos de caso em três incubadoras, utilizando análise documental e entrevista semiestruturada. Inicialmente foi caracterizada a inovação tecnológica na visão de Schumpeter e dos neo-schumpeterianos, e também o ecossistema de inovação. Por conseguinte, as incubadoras foram caracterizadas de um modo geral, especialmente no Brasil, e também foram analisados os fatores críticos de sucesso de uma incubadora. Por fim, foi descrito sobre o ecossistema de inovação capixaba e foi feita a avaliação das incubadoras de base tecnológica do Espírito Santo. Os resultados apontaram que as incubadoras são uma parte do ecossistema de inovação onde se notam alguns avanços, todavia, as incubadoras capixabas ainda estão muito aquém das incubadoras de sucesso no Brasil, logo, existem diversos pontos a serem desenvolvidos e para isso foram propostas ações.

Building Design Coordination is the process of communicating and integrating multidisciplinary designs into a single, coherent set of information that can be used for construction, to anticipate problems that would otherwise only be raised on the construction site. As projects grow in complexity and size, digital communication tools and other technological improvements have made it possible for physically distant design teams to collaborate in novel ways. More recently, BIM (Building Information Modelling), has opened even greater possibilities, although the design process nevertheless is often one of trial and error, demanding on each small change multiple possibilities to be considered, with decisions requiring to be validated among designers and other project stakeholders. Regardless of all the advantages that BIM has brought to the industry, testing for design changes in BIM models often requires a big effort and is a time-consuming activity that should be avoided whenever simpler processes can be used. Further developments on this study will propose a framework for building design coordination, using a non-relational graph database. The system can track design issues between unlimited users, organized into teams, handling formal project documents and keeping an historical record of the design development timeline. Since all the information regarding the design development process is stored in the form of Nodes and Relationships these can be intuitively be manipulated making it easier for teams to provide input on design decisions in real time with least cost impact to the project, providing at the same time access to pertinent information on the status of design issues and how the various stakeholders are contributing to the project. Through the use of reliable open source tools, a prototype can be implemented and made available to the industry professionals for testing, providing guidelines for modelling a Building Design Coordination system. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion
