3. Studies on photocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B using the valentinite Sb2O3.

Abstract

A facile hydrolysis-precipitation was used to elaborate antimony oxide Sb2O3 (valentinite) and to study its semiconducting and photo-electrochemical properties. The X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UV–Vis diffuse reflectance, Raman and FTIR spectroscopies were used to characterize the oxide. The XRD analysis indicates an orthorhombic phase (SG: Pccn) with a crystallite size of 102 nm. The optical measurements gave a direct gap of 3.32 eV due to a charge transfer O2−: 2p–Sb3+: 6s while the capacity-potential (C−2–E) plot provides a flat band potential of − 0.46 VAg/AgCl. The valence and the conduction bands are located at (− 7.29 eV/2.56 V) and (− 3.97 eV/− 0.76 V), and the energy band diagram of the junction Sb2O3/KOH shows the efficacy of Sb2O3 as photocatalyst. As application, 81% of Rhodamine B (Rh B), a recalcitrant dye with an initial concentration of 5 mg L−1, were mineralized after 7 h under UV light by Sb2O3. According to the inhibitors study, the ·OH radical is the first active specie in the Rh B photo-oxidation, followed by O2·−. The photodegradation follows a zero order kinetic with a photocatalytic half time of 3.8 h, smaller than the photolysis (10.5 h) under UV light (254 nm). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

4. Nivel de conocimiento de Sífilis en adolescentes de dos Instituciones Educativas del distrito de Buenaventura

Abstract

Objetivo: Establecer el nivel de conocimiento de sífilis en adolescentes de dos Instituciones Educativas del distrito de Buenaventura de grados: noveno, décimo y once. Material y métodos: Estudio descriptivo de corte transversal en jóvenes entre 12 y 18 años; muestra a conveniencia de 420 estudiantes. Se aplicó una encuesta anónima dividida en 5 secciones. Se determinaron características sociodemográficas, hábitos, vida sexual y conocimiento sobre ITS. Resultados: 91% manifestó conocer sobre las ITS; 22,4% expresó conocer los signos y síntomas. 3,1& presentó diagnóstico de ITS; no reportaron casos de sífilis; 51,9% manifestó conocer la sífilis; el 10% expresó conocer signos y síntomas. 16% manifestó conocer mecanismo de prevención. 4% de los estudiantes tiene un buen nivel de conocimiento sobre sífilis. Sobre actividad sexual, 58,7% había iniciado vida sexual, 28% tuvo su primer encuentro a los 11 años o menos, siendo mayormente de género masculino. 33,8% habían tenido 1 pareja sexual, seguido de 23,8% con 6 o más parejas sexuales. El análisis de conocimiento sobre sífilis según institución educativa evidenció que el 8,9% y el 3% de los estudiantes tenía un nivel bueno de conocimiento, en la institución rural y urbana respectivamente. Al evaluar el conocimiento sobre ETS, se encontró que el 85% y 96% de estudiantes en zona rural y urbana respectivamente afirman tener conocimiento; sobre la sintomatología, 21% y 23 % es conocedor de esta, en área rural y urbana respectivamente. Conclusiones: Un alto porcentaje de estudiantes encuestados tienen un bajo nivel de conocimiento sobre sífilis; las mayores falencias se presentan en manifestaciones clínicas, la prevención y la cura de dicha enfermedad; aunque los adolescentes tienen múltiples fuentes de conocimiento, dicha información es deficiente, especialmente la transmitida por los padres y la pareja.

Abstract

Agile software development has gained importance in the industry because of its approach on the issues of human agility and return on investment. This paper shows how Scrum agile software project management methodology has been deployed and adapted to the model of software project management of a research and development laboratory. As a result of this deployment, experiences and lessons learned in seven real projects developed by the authors are reported.

Abstract

Ainda são poucas as informações sobre as características físico-hídricas dos solos do Tocantins, apesar de ser um dado fundamental para recomendações de manejo. Os testes de infiltração de água foram realizados em um solo Plintossolo Pétrico concrecionário, uma classe de solos amplamente utilizada para fins agrícolas, mas ainda muito pouco conhecida. Este levantamento foi realizado em uma área degradada do Plintossolo Pétrico, em uma fazenda pecuária localizada no município de Brejinho de Nazaré/TO. Os dados foram coletados em solos localizados em um sistema integrado com sorgo e espécies lenhosas nativas. Antigamente, essa área era uma pastagem degradada. Para a medição da condutividade hidráulica, foi utilizado um conjunto de anéis triplos concêntricos acoplados a um sistema de abastecimento de água semiautomático (protótipo desenvolvido pelos pesquisadores da Embrapa Pesca e Aquicultura). Os dados brutos de campo foram ajustados ao modelo de Kostiakov para estimar a taxa de infiltração básica, que variou de 3,0 a 5,8 cm.h-1. Made available in DSpace on 2021-10-29T13:00:44Z (GMT). Abstract

Nos últimos 30 anos tem-se observado, por parte da sociedade, uma maior preocupação com o uso de agrotóxicos na agricultura. Nesse sentido, a pesquisa tem buscado incansavelmente produtos alternativos, que sejam mais eficientes, baratos e ambientalmente seguros. Dentre as alternativas buscadas, o uso de extratos de plantas tem se mostrado promissor. Nesse sentido, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo testar 48 extratos aquosos e alcoólicos de 18 variedades de pimentas do gênero Capsicum obtidos a partir de sementes, folhas e frutos pelo método de maceração para o controle na inibição de germinação de Hemileia vastatrix e crescimento micelial dos fungos Colletotrichum lindemuthianum, Alternaria sp., Fusarium sp. Colletotrichum gloeosporioides e Phomopsis. Destes, o extrato aquoso, obtido de sementes de Capsicum chinense foi o mais eficiente, controlando todos os fitopatógenos desafiantes, mostrando que esses extratos possuem compostos bioativos possíveis de controlar fungos fitopatogênicos. Abstract

In this paper the characterization of a gypsum plaster sample from the end of the 19th century simulating imperial red porphyry using a multi-analytical approach is presented and discussed. The results of X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis (TGA-DTA), physical and mechanical properties are summarized. In order to have further insight into the microstructure, polarized light microscopy (PLM), scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (SEMEDS), and micro Raman spectroscopy analyzes were also made. They helped to clarify the main issues raised by the other complementary analytical techniques and allowed the establishment of interrelations between the different properties, providing important information about the materials, the skills, and the technological development involved in the art of imitating noble stones with gypsum pastes. In that context, we discuss what leisure can contribute to happiness. Although happiness is partially set through inherited personality traits, there is potential for improving one's sense of happiness through leisure. Research to date focused mainly on casual leisure and leisure travel. These kinds of leisure have mostly a small positive effect on happiness. The benefits are often temporary and in the moment. We propose more longitudinal research that addresses serious leisure and project-based leisure, which may have more sustained effects on happiness than casual leisure and leisure travel.

Abstract

The use of gypsum plaster for the interior coating of walls and ceilings in the Portuguese architecture was particularly expressive in the period between the XVIII and the XX century. However, information about this important heritage is almost nonexistent, which is leading to a rapid loss of important patrimony. In this paper the results of the characterisation of five gypsum plaster samples from the second half of the XIX century belonging to the Arabian Room of the Bolsa Palace, located in Oporto, North of Portugal, are presented and discussed. XRD and TGA-DTA techniques were used to establish the mineralogical composition, and the relative proportions of the binders. Optical microscopy and FESEM-EDS observations were performed both in fractured and polished surfaces in order to determine the stratigraphy and the composition of individual layers. The results of this characterisation work showed that the plasters used were mainly composed of gypsum and hydrated lime in different proportions – a feature that was correlated with the application techniques of the decorative elements analyzed - and allowed the determining of the restoration interventions they had already been submitted to. Some physical properties like the dynamic modulus of elasticity and capillary absorption were also determined, and a correlation between the results obtained was established with previous studies performed by the authors. In order to achieve the issues of compatibility for the design of new repair products a complete characterization of the original materials is of extreme importance. Gypsum plaster materials are not an exception to that rule. The characterization work of the Portuguese historical gypsum plasters has never been done as well as the study of efficient solutions for their preservation. In this paper the results of the characterization of gypsum plaster samples from the second half of the XIX century belonging to the Arabian Room of the Bolsa Palace, located in Oporto, North of Portugal, are presented and discussed. XRD, TGA-DTA, optical microscopy and FESEM-EDS observations were used for the chemical and microstructural characterization. Some physical properties, such as dynamic modulus of elasticity and capillary absorption were also determined.
