Promoting positive development may lead to young people's active contributions to their environment through positive attitudes and behaviours. The Climate Change Attitude Survey (15-item version) aims to identify climate change attitudes differences in groups of students and to assess pre- to post-intervention attitude changes. We intended to validate and test a possible extension of this scale among a Portuguese sample of adolescents and emerging adults. We also investigated whether higher scores on this scale would be positively associated with positive youth development. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, measurement invariance, and convergent validity were assessed. The results showed good psychometric properties aligned with the original factorial structure. Significant differences were found among female and male samples regarding beliefs and intentions. A small but significant positive association was identified with a positive youth development scale. We suggest this may be an adequate instrument to assess youth climate change beliefs and intentions.

(1) Background: It is estimated that 10% of dry eye disease (DED) occurs in patients with Sjogren's syndrome (SS-DED) and represents a challenge when it comes to treatment. Both innate and adaptive immunity participate in the pathogenesis of SS-DED. Previous studies suggest that Th1 and Th17 cell immune responses are the main actors associated with the pathogenesis of this disease. Ocular surface mucins play a fundamental role in ocular surface homeostasis. In particular, the main transmembrane mucins, MUC1, MUC4 and MUC16, are dysregulated in DED and could be involved in the activation of pro-inflammatory cytokines at the ocular interface. Thus, the objective of this work was to analyze mucin and cytokine expression in ocular surface (OS) damage and correlate it with clinical symptoms.; (2) Methods: 18 patients with SS-DED and 15 healthy controls were included in the study. Samples of conjunctival cells were obtained through cytology impression. RNA was extracted from the collected samples and used to determine the expression of MUC1, 4 and 16 by qRT-PCR. Pro-inflammatory cytokines associated with DED pathogenesis (IL17 and IL-22) were also evaluated. The results were contrasted with the clinical findings on examination of the patients. (3) Results: We observed a significant increase in the expression of MUC1 and MUC4 in patients with SS-DED. MUC4 significantly correlated with both lower production and stability of the tear film, as well as greater superficial keratopathy. On the other hand, MUC1 and MUC16 were positively correlated with the presence of more severe DED symptoms. However, we could not reproduce an increase in IL-17 and IL-22 in DED patients as previously reported; (4) Conclusions: This work constitutes an approach to understanding how the gene expression of transmembrane mucins associates with SS-DED symptoms and clinical signs. Recently, scientific literature has seen significant development and evaluation of several positive psychology interventions. However, there are still lacking studies that evaluate the efficacy of this type of interventions in clinically depressed adolescents. This paper aims to demonstrate the preliminary results of a new therapy implemented to a 14-year-old female adolescent diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder: the Optimal Functioning Therapy for Adolescent. This therapy seeks to promote adolescents' optimal functioning by reducing depressive symptoms and increasing well-being. The innovation of this therapy lies in the integration of techniques from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Positive Psychology Interventions. The assessment of this therapy was made using retrospective and real-time or ecological measures (Experience Sampling Method - Csikszentmihalyi and Larson in Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease, 175, 526-536, 1987 (See CR14)) in three moments: baseline; post-intervention; and 4-month follow-up. Retrospective results showed improvement in positive trait characteristics and elimination of depressive symptoms maintained until follow-up. Real-time results showed the benefits of the therapy on the participant's daily life regarding external contexts (increased engagement and diversification of activities, places, and companies) and state characteristics (increase in positive mood and self-satisfaction, and a decrease in the negative mood), maintained until follow-up. This paper illustrates a new project developed by a cross-country team of researchers, with the aim of studying the hedonic and eudaimonic components of happiness through a mixed method approach combining both qualitative and quantitative analyses. Data were collected from 666 participants in Australia, Croatia, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and South Africa. A major aim of the study was to examine definitions and experiences of happiness using open-ended questions. Among the components of well-being traditionally associated with the eudaimonic approach, meaning in particular was explored in terms of constituents, relevance, and subjective experience. The Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) was also administered to quantitatively assess the hedonic dimension of happiness. Results showed that happiness was primarily defined as a condition of psychological balance and harmony. Among the different life domains, family and social relations were prominently associated with happiness and meaningfulness. The quantitative analyses highlighted the relationship between happiness, meaningfulness, and satisfaction with life, as well as the different and complementary contributions of each component to well-being. At the theoretical and methodological levels, findings suggest the importance of jointly investigating happiness and its relationship with other dimensions of well-being, in order to detect differences and synergies among them.
