BACKGROUND AND INTRODUCTION Brain metastasis velocity (BMV) has been proposed as a prognostic factor for overall survival (OS) in patients with brain metastases (BMs). In this study, we conducted an external validation and comparative assessment of the performance of all three BMV scores. MATERIALS AND METHODS Patients treated with intracranial stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) for BM at a single center between 2014 and 2018 were identified. Where possible, all three BMV scores were calculated. Log-rank tests and linear, logistic and Cox regression analysis were used for validation and predictor identification of OS. RESULTS For 333 of 384 brain metastasis patients, at least one BMV score could be calculated. In a sub-group of 187 patients, "classic" BMV was validated as categorical (p<0.0001) and continuous variable (HR 1.02; 95% CI 1.02-1.03; p<0.0001). In a sub-group of 284 patients, "initial" BMV was validated as categorical variable (high-risk vs. low-risk; p<0.01), but not as continuous variable (HR 1.02; 95% CI 0.99-1.04; p=0.224). "Volume-based" BMV could not be validated in a sub-group of 104 patients. On multivariable Cox regression analysis, iBMV (HR 1.85; 95% CI 1.01-3.38; p<0.05) and cBMV (HR 2.32; 95% CI 1.15 4.68; p<0.05) were predictors for OS for intermediate-risk patients after first SRT and first DBFs, respectively. cBMV proved to be the dominant predictor for OS for high-risk patients (HR 2.99; 95% CI 1.30-6.91; p<0.05). CONCLUSION This study externally validated cBMV and iBMV as prognostic scores for OS in patients treated with SRT for BMs whereas validation of vBMV was not achieved.

Das Ziel der vorliegenden Bachelorarbeit ist es, Zusammenhänge in der Ausübung von Freizeitaktivitäten und der sozialen Eingebundenheit in die Schulklasse ausfindig zu machen. Die untersuchten Freizeitaktivitäten konzentrieren sich auf die Nutzung digitaler Medien und die Ausführung sportlicher Tätigkeiten. In einem ersten Teil werden dabei bisherige Forschungsergebnisse und Erkenntnisse mittels Literaturstudium zusammengefasst, um den eigenen Untersuchungen im zweiten Teil der Arbeit eine Grundlage zu bieten. Für die Untersuchungen wurde eine Umfrage in drei Mittelstufenklassen des Kantons St. Gallen durchgeführt und ausgewertet. Mittels einer Soziometrieuntersuchung wurde dabei auf die soziale Integration in der Klasse geschlossen, um diese in einem zweiten Schritt mit den Umfrageergebnissen zur Nutzung digitaler Medien und der Ausübung von Sport in Verbindung zu bringen. Es zeigt sich eine recht stabile Kongruenz zwischen den theoriebasierten und den selbst erhobenen Untersuchungsergebnissen. Besonders der hohen sportlicheren Aktivität in der Freizeit können begünstigende Einflüsse auf die soziale Integration in der Klasse nachgewiesen werden. Im Gegensatz dazu ist es im Bereich der Nutzung digitaler Medien nicht die Häufigkeit, sondern die Art und Weise der Nutzung, welche sich relativ zur sozialen Stellung in der Klasse auswirkt. Als fördernd für die soziale Integration erweist sich dabei hauptsächlich die Nutzung von Online-Diensten, welche ebenfalls einen sozialen Austausch ermöglichen. Unterschiede der Geschlechter kommen hierbei stärker zum Tragen, als es bei der sportlichen Freizeitaktivität der Fall ist.

The subject of this study is the trade-off between fuel economy and transient performance in turbocharged engines. It quantifies the losses and gains of different engine control strategies. Two extreme strategies are analyzed, one for optimal fuel economy and the other for fast transient response. Models for the components that influence the fuel economy are developed and described. An optimization problem for best fuel economy is solved analytically and a fuel-optimal controller is implemented based on that result. This controller is compared to one which is optimized for fast transient response with respect to the gains in fuel economy and losses in transient response. Simulations of a highly boosted engine show that a fuel-optimal controller can improve the fuel economy of a vehicle operated at cruising speed by 1-3% and at highway speed by 4%, and that the highest achievable improvement is above 10%. The losses in transient response are around 0.4 s for cruising conditions. Furthermore, measurements on a low-boosted engine on a test bench are used to show that the fuel-optimal controller reduces fuel consumption by 1.9% at highway conditions.
