We present the basic design of a large, light weight, spaceborne antenna for the Black Hole Explorer (BHEX) space Very Long Baseline Interferometry (space-VLBI) mission, achieving high efficiency operation at mm/sub-mm wavelengths. An introductory overview of the mission and its science background are provided. The BHEX mission targets fundamental black hole physics enabled by the detection of the finely structured image feature around black holes known as the photon ring, theoretically expected due to light orbiting the black hole before reaching the observer. Interferometer baselines much longer than an earth diameter are necessary to attain the spatial resolution required to detect the photon ring, leading to a space component. The science goals require high sensitivity observations at mm/sub-mm wavelengths, placing stringent constraints on antenna performance. The design approach described, seeks to balance the antenna aperture, volume and mass constraints of the NASA Explorers mission opportunity profile and the desired high performance. A 3.5 m aperture with a 40 $\mu$m surface rms is targeted. Currently, a symmetric, dual reflector, axially displaced ellipse (Gregorian ring focus) optical design and metallized carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) sandwich construction have been chosen to deliver high efficiency and light weight. The Einstein-de Haas (EdH) effect is a fundamental, mechanical consequence of any temporal change of magnetism in an object. EdH torque results from conserving the object's total angular momentum: the angular momenta of all the specimen's magnetic moments, together with its mechanical angular momentum. Although the EdH effect is usually small and difficult to observe, it increases in magnitude with detection frequency. We explore the frequency-dependence of EdH torque for a thin film permalloy microstructure by employing a ladder of flexural beam modes (with five distinct resonance frequencies spanning from 3 to 208 MHz) within a nanocavity optomechanical torque sensor via magnetic hysteresis curves measured at mechanical resonances. At low DC fields the gyrotropic resonance of a magnetic vortex spin texture overlaps the 208 MHz mechanical mode. The massive EdH mechanical torques arising from this co-resonance yield a fingerprint of vortex core pinning and depinning in the sample. The experimental results are discussed in relation to mechanical torques predicted from both macrospin (at high DC magnetic field) and finite-difference solutions to the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert (LLG) equation. A global fit of the LLG solutions to the frequency-dependent data reveals a statistically significant discrepancy between the experimentally observed and simulated torque phase behaviours at spin texture transitions that can be reduced through the addition of a time constant to the conversion between magnetic cross-product torque and mechanical torque, constrained by experiment to be in the range of 0.5 - 4 ns., Comment: 39 pages, 17 figures total (Main: 22 pages, 8 figures; Supplement: 17 pages, 9 figures)

Contact and projection electron radiography of static targets was demonstrated using a laser plasma accelerator driven by a kilojoule, picosecond class laser as a source of relativistic electrons with an average energy of 20 MeV. Objects with areal densities as high as 7.7 g/cm^2 were probed in materials ranging from plastic to tungsten, and radiographs with resolution as good as 90 micrometers were produced. The effects of electric fields produced by the laser ablation of the radiography objects were observed and are well described by an analytic expression relating imaging magnification change to electric field strength.

Micrometer diameter bilayers of NiFe (permalloy, Py) and cobalt oxide (CoO) deposited on nanomechanical resonators were used to investigate exchange bias effects. The mechanical compliances of two resonator axes were enhanced by severing one torsion arm, resulting in a unique three-axis resonator that responds resonantly to torques generated by a three-axis RF field. Our technique permits simultaneous measurement of three orthogonal torque components. Measurements of the anisotropies associated with interfacial exchange coupling effects have been made. At cryogenic temperatures, observations of shifted linear hysteresis loops confirmed the presence of exchange bias from the Py/CoO interface. An in-plane rotating DC bias field was used to probe in-plane anisotropies through the out-of-plane torque. Training effects in the rotational hysteresis data were observed and showed that features due to interfacial coupling did not diminish irrespective of substantial training of the unidirectional anisotropy. The data from the rotational hysteresis loops were fit with parameters from a macrospin solution to the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation. We describe the use of a coplanar waveguide whose slots are filled with resistive film, a resistively loaded coplanar waveguide (RLCPW), to measure two dimensional electron systems (2DES). The RLCPW applied to the sample hosting the 2DES provides a uniform metallic surface serving as a gate, to control the areal charge density of the 2DES. As a demonstration of this technique we present measurements on a Si MOSFET, and a model that successfully converts microwave transmission coefficients into conductivity of a nearby 2DES capacitively coupled to the RLCPW. We also describe the process of fabricating the highly resistive metal film required for fabrication of the RLCPW.

We report the first measurement of the $^{10}{\rm B}(\alpha,n)^{13}{\rm N}$ reaction in a polar-direct-drive exploding pusher (PDXP) at the National Ignition Facility (NIF). This work is motivated by the need to develop alternative mix diagnostics, radiochemistry being the focus here. The target is composed of a $65/35\,\rm at.\,\%$ deuterium-tritium (DT) fill surrounded by a roughly $30\,\mu\rm m$ thick beryllium ablator. The inner portion of the beryllium ablator is doped with $10\,\rm at.\,\%$ of $^{10}{\rm B}$. Radiation-hydrodynamics calculations were performed in 1D to optimize both the remaining boron rho-R and the DT neutron yield. A charged-particle transport post-processor has been developed to study $\alpha$-induced reactions on the ablator material. Results indicate a large $^{13}{\rm N}$ production from $\alpha$-induced reactions on $^{10}{\rm B}$, measurable by the radiochemical analysis of gaseous samples system at the NIF. The PDXP target N201115-001 was successfully fielded on the NIF, and nitrogen from the $^{10}{\rm B}(\alpha,n)^{13}{\rm N}$ reaction was measured. The $^{13}{\rm N}$ production yield, as well as the DT neutron yield, was, however, lower than expected. Some of the reduced yields can be explained by the oblate shape, but the ratios of the various radiochemical signals are not commensurate with expectations based on a simple reduction of the 1D results. Preliminary 2D radiation-hydrodynamics computations are consistent with the experimental measurements, and work is ongoing to extend the radiochemistry analysis into higher dimensions., Comment: 12 pages, 9 figures, 4 tables

We analyze the spatial variation in the response of the surface geomagnetic field (or the equivalent ionospheric current) to variations in the solar wind. Specifically, we regress a reanalysis of surface external and induced magnetic field (SEIMF) variations onto measurements of the solar wind. The regression is performed in monthly sets, independently for 559 regularly spaced locations covering the entire northern polar region above 50 magnetic latitude. At each location, we find the lag applied to the solar wind data that maximizes the correlation with the SEIMF. The resulting spatial maps of these independent lags and regression coefficients provide a model of the localized SEIMF response to variations in the solar wind, which we call {\guillemotleft}Spatial Information from Distributed Exogenous Regression.{\guillemotright} We find that the lag and regression coefficients vary systematically with ionospheric region, season, and solar wind driver. In the polar cap region the SEIMF is best described by the (B$_{y}$) component of the interplanetary magnetic field (50-75% of total variance explained) at a lag the SEIMF is best described by the solar wind that varies with season and magnetic local time (MLT), from $\sim$15-20 min for dayside and afternoon MLT (except in Oct-Dec) to typically 30-40 min for nightside and morning MLT and even longer (60-65 min) around midnight MLT.

We analyze the response of different ionospheric equivalent current modes to variations in the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) components By and Bz. Each mode comprises a fixed spatial pattern whose amplitude varies in time, identified by a month-by-month empirical orthogonal function separation of surface measured magnetic field variance. Here we focus on four sets of modes that have been previously identified as DPY, DP2, NBZ, and DP1. We derive the cross-correlation function of each mode set with either IMF (B$_{y}$) or (B$_{z}$) for lags ranging from -10 to +600 mins with respect to the IMF state at the bow shock nose. For all four sets of modes, the average correlation can be reproduced by a sum of up to three linear responses to the IMF component, each centered on a different lag. These are interpreted as the statistical ionospheric responses to magnetopause merging (15- to 20-min lag) and magnetotail reconnection (60-min lag) and to IMF persistence. Of the mode sets, NBZ and DPY are the most predictable from a given IMF component, with DP1 (the substorm component) the least predictable. The proportion of mode variability explained by the IMF increases for the longer lags, thought to indicate conductivity feedbacks from substorms. In summary, we confirm the postulated physical basis of these modes and quantify their multiple reconfiguration timescales.

Measurements of magnetic torque are most commonly preformed about a single axis or component of torque. Such measurements are very useful for hysteresis measurements of thin film structures in particular, where high shape anisotropy yields a near-proportionality of in-plane magnetic moment and the magnetic torque along the perpendicular in-plane axis. A technique to measure the full magnetic torque vector (three orthogonal torque components) on micro- and nano-scale magnetic materials is introduced. The method is demonstrated using a modified, single-paddle silicon-on-insulator resonant torque sensor. The mechanical compliances to all three orthogonal torque components are maximized by clamping the sensor at a single point. Mechanically-resonant AC torques are driven by an RF field containing a frequency component for each fundamental torsional mode of the device, and the resulting displacements read out through optical position-sensitive detection. The measurements are compared with micromagnetic simulations of the mechanical torque to augment the interpretation of the signals. As an application example, simultaneous observations of hysteresis in the net magnetization along with the field-dependent in-plane anisotropy is highly beneficial for studies of exchange bias., Comment: 11 manuscript pages with 3 figures, and 4 supplementary pages with 2 figures. The Einstein-de Haas (EdH) effect and its reciprocal the Barnett effect are fundamental to magnetism and uniquely yield measures of the ratio of magnetic moment to total angular momentum. These effects, small and generally difficult to observe, are enjoying a resurgence of interest as contemporary techniques enable new approaches to their study. The high mechanical resonance frequencies in nanomechanical systems offer a tremendous advantage for the observation of EdH torques in particular. At radio frequencies, the EdH effect can become comparable to or even exceed in magnitude conventional cross-product magnetic torques. In addition, the RF-EdH torque is expected to be phase-shifted by 90 degrees relative to cross-product torques, provided the magnetic system remains in quasi-static equilibrium, enabling separation in quadratures when both sources of torque are operative. Radio frequency EdH measurements are demonstrated through the full hysteresis range of micrometer scale, monocrystalline yttrium iron garnet (YIG) disks. Equilibrium behavior is observed in the vortex state at low bias field. Barkhausen-like features emerge in the in-plane EdH torque at higher fields in the vortex state, revealing magnetic disorder too weak to be visible through the in-plane cross-product torque. We present observations of fifty square degrees of the Mopra carbon monoxide (CO) survey of the Southern Galactic Plane, covering Galactic longitudes $l = 300$-$350^\circ$ and latitudes $|b| \le 0.5^\circ$. These data have been taken at 0.6 arcminute spatial resolution and 0.1 km/s spectral resolution, providing an unprecedented view of the molecular clouds and gas of the Southern Galactic Plane in the 109-115 GHz $J = 1$-0 transitions of $^{12}$CO, $^{13}$CO, C$^{18}$O and C$^{17}$O. We present a series of velocity-integrated maps, spectra and position-velocity plots that illustrate Galactic arm structures and trace masses on the order of $\sim$10$^{6}$ M$_{\odot}$ per square degree; and include a preliminary catalogue of C$^{18}$O clumps located between $l=330$-$340^\circ$. We apply the method of data-interpolating empirical orthogonal functions (EOFs) to ground-based magnetic vector data from the SuperMAG archive to produce a series of month length reanalyses of the surface external and induced magnetic field (SEIMF) in 110,000 km$^{2}$ equal-area bins over the entire northern polar region at 5 min cadence over solar cycle 23, from 1997.0 to 2009.0. Each EOF reanalysis also decomposes the measured SEIMF variation into a hierarchy of spatiotemporal patterns which are ordered by their contribution to the monthly magnetic field variance. We find that the leading EOF patterns can each be (subjectively) interpreted as well-known SEIMF systems or their equivalent current systems. The relationship of the equivalent currents to the true current flow is not investigated. We track the leading SEIMF or equivalent current systems of similar type by intermonthly spatial correlation and apply graph theory to (objectively) group their appearance and relative importance throughout a solar cycle, revealing seasonal and solar cycle variation. In this way, we identify the spatiotemporal patterns that maximally contribute to SEIMF variability over a solar cycle. We propose this combination of EOF and graph theory as a powerful method for objectively defining and investigating the structure and variability of the SEIMF or their equivalent ionospheric currents for use in both geomagnetism and space weather applications. It is demonstrated here on solar cycle 23 but is extendable to any epoch with sufficient data coverage.

The stable vortex state that occurs in micron-scale magnetic disks is one of the most interesting and potentially useful phenomenon in nanomagnetism. A variety of tools have been applied to study the vortex state, and collective spin excitations corresponding to harmonic motion of the vortex, but to-date these tools have measured either strongly driven vortex resonances or have been unable to simultaneously measure static properties such as the magnetization. Here we show that by combining the sensitivity of cavity optomechanics with the technique of torque mixing resonance spectroscopy, we are able to measure the magnetization, in-plane susceptibility, and spin resonances of individual vortices in the low-drive limit. These measurements elucidate the complex behavior of the vortex as it moves through the pinning landscape of the disk. Furthermore, we observe gyrotropic resonances as high as 1.1 GHz, suggesting the use of engineering defects for applications such as microwave-to-optical wavelength conversion., Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures

We report on the analysis of a microlensing event OGLE-2014-BLG-1722 that showed two distinct short term anomalies. The best fit model to the observed light curves shows that the two anomalies are explained with two planetary mass ratio companions to the primary lens. Although a binary source model is also able to explain the second anomaly, it is marginally ruled out by 3.1 $\sigma$. The 2-planet model indicates that the first anomaly was caused by planet "b" with a mass ratio of $q = (4.5_{-0.6}^{+0.7}) \times 10^{-4}$ and projected separation in unit of the Einstein radius, $s = 0.753 \pm 0.004$. The second anomaly reveals planet "c" with a mass ratio of $q_{2} = (7.0_{-1.7}^{+2.3}) \times 10^{-4}$ with $\Delta \chi^{2} \sim 170$ compared to the single planet model. Its separation has a so-called close-wide degeneracy. We estimated the physical parameters of the lens system from Bayesian analysis. This gives that the masses of planet b and c are $m_{\rm b} = 56_{-33}^{+51}\,M_{\oplus}$ and $m_{\rm c} = 85_{-51}^{+86}\,M_{\oplus}$, respectively, and they orbit a late type star with a mass of $M_{\rm host} = 0.40_{-0.24}^{+0.36}\,M_{\odot}$ located at $D_{\rm L} = 6.4_{-1.8}^{+1.3}\,\rm kpc$ from us. If the 2-planet model is true, this is the third multiple planet system detected by using the microlensing method, and the first multiple planet system detected in the low magnification events, which are dominant in the microlensing survey data. The occurrence rate of multiple cold gas giant systems is estimated using the two such detections and a simple extrapolation of the survey sensitivity of 6 year MOA microlensing survey (Suzuki et al. 2016) combined with the 4 year $\mu$FUN detection efficiency (Gould et al. 2010). We demonstrate the integration of a mesoscopic ferromagnetic needle with a cavity optomechanical torsional resonator, and its use for quantitative determination of the needle's magnetic properties, as well as amplification and cooling of the resonator motion. With this system we measure torques as small as 32 zNm, corresponding to sensing an external magnetic field of 0.12 A/m (150 nT). Furthermore, we are able to extract the magnetization (1710 kA/m) of the magnetic sample, not known a priori, demonstrating this system's potential for studies of nanomagnetism. Finally, we show that we can magnetically drive the torsional resonator into regenerative oscillations, and dampen its mechanical mode temperature from room temperature to 11.6 K, without sacrificing torque sensitivity., Comment: 13 pages, 4 figures, submitted version

We present the first catalogue of eclipsing binaries in two MOA fields towards the Galactic bulge, in which over 8,000 candidates, mostly contact and semi-detached binaries of periods < 1 d, were identified. In this paper, the light curves of a small number of interesting candidates including eccentric binaries, binaries with noteworthy phase modulations and eclipsing RS CVn type stars are shown as examples. We report the discovery of a binary composed of two brown dwarfs, based on the analysis of the microlensing event OGLE-2016-BLG-1469. Thanks to detection of both finite-source and microlens-parallax effects, we are able to measure both the masses $M_1\sim 0.05\ M_\odot$, $M_2\sim 0.01\ M_\odot$, and distance $D_{\rm L} \sim 4.5$ kpc, as well as the projected separation $a_\perp \sim 0.33$ au. This is the third brown-dwarf binary detected using the microlensing method, demonstrating the usefulness of microlensing in detecting field brown-dwarf binaries with separations less than 1 au., Comment: 8 pages, 8 figures

We report the results of the statistical analysis of planetary signals discovered in MOA-II microlensing survey alert system events from 2007 to 2012. We determine the survey sensitivity as a function of planet-star mass ratio, $q$, and projected planet-star separation, $s$, in Einstein radius units. We find that the mass ratio function is not a single power-law, but has a change in slope at $q \sim 10^{-4}$, corresponding to $\sim 20 M_{\oplus}$ for the median host star mass of $\sim 0.6 M_{\odot}$. We find significant planetary signals in 23 of the 1474 alert events that are well characterized by the MOA-II survey data alone. Data from other groups are used only to characterize planetary signals that have been identified in the MOA data alone. The distribution of mass ratios and separations of the planets found in our sample are well fit by a broken power-law model of the form $dN_{\rm pl}/(d{\rm log} q\ d{\rm log} s) = A (q/q_{\rm br})^n s^m \, {\rm dex}^{-2}$ for $q > q_{\rm br}$ and $dN_{\rm pl}/(d{\rm log} q\ d{\rm log} s) = A (q/q_{\rm br})^p s^m \, {\rm dex}^{-2}$ for $q < q_{\rm br}$, where $q_{\rm br}$ is the mass ratio of the break. We also combine this analysis with the previous analyses of Gould et al. and Cassan et al., bringing the total sample to 30 planets. This combined analysis yields $A = 0.61^{+0.21}_{-0.16}$, $n =-0.93\pm 0.13$, $m = 0.49_{-0.49}^{+0.47}$ and $p = 0.6^{+0.5}_{-0.4}$ for $q_{\rm br}\equiv 1.7\times 10^{-4}$. The unbroken power law model is disfavored with a $p$-value of 0.0022, which corresponds to a Bayes factor of 27 favoring the broken power-law model. These results imply that cold Neptunes are likely to be the most common type of planets beyond the snow line., Comment: 67 pages, 18 figures

We report the discovery of a planet --- OGLE-2014-BLG-0676Lb --- via gravitational microlensing. Observations for the lensing event were made by the MOA, OGLE, Wise, RoboNET/LCOGT, MiNDSTEp and $\mu$FUN groups. All analyses of the light curve data favour a lens system comprising a planetary mass orbiting a host star. The most favoured binary lens model has a mass ratio between the two lens masses of $(4.78 \pm 0.13)\times 10^{-3}$. Subject to some important assumptions, a Bayesian probability density analysis suggests the lens system comprises a $3.09_{-1.12}^{+1.02}$ M_jup planet orbiting a $0.62_{-0.22}^{+0.20}$ M_sun host star at a deprojected orbital separation of $4.40_{-1.46}^{+2.16}$ AU. The distance to the lens system is $2.22_{-0.83}^{+0.96}$ kpc. Planet OGLE-2014-BLG-0676Lb provides additional data to the growing number of cool planets discovered using gravitational microlensing against which planetary formation theories may be tested. In the process of analyzing an observed light curve, one often confronts various scenarios that can mimic the planetary signals causing difficulties in the accurate interpretation of the lens system. In this paper, we present the analysis of the microlensing event OGLE-2016-BLG-0733. The light curve of the event shows a long-term asymmetric perturbation that would appear to be due to a planet. From the detailed modeling of the lensing light curve, however, we find that the perturbation originates from the binarity of the source rather than the lens. This result demonstrates that binary sources with roughly equal-luminosity components can mimic long-term perturbations induced by planets with projected separations near the Einstein ring. We present the analysis of the first circumbinary planet microlensing event, OGLE-2007-BLG-349. This event has a strong planetary signal that is best fit with a mass ratio of $q \approx 3.4\times10^{-4}$, but there is an additional signal due to an additional lens mass, either another planet or another star. We find acceptable light curve fits with two classes of models: 2-planet models (with a single host star) and circumbinary planet models. The light curve also reveals a significant microlensing parallax effect, which constrains the mass of the lens system to be $M_L \approx 0.7 M_\odot$. Hubble Space Telescope images resolve the lens and source stars from their neighbors and indicate excess flux due to the star(s) in the lens system. This is consistent with the predicted flux from the circumbinary models, where the lens mass is shared between two stars, but there is not enough flux to be consistent with the 2-planet, 1-star models. So, only the circumbinary models are consistent with the HST data. They indicate a planet of mass $m_c = 80\pm 13\,M_\oplus$, orbiting a pair of M-dwarfs with masses of $M_A = 0.41\pm 0.07 M_\odot$ and $M_B = 0.30\pm 0.07 M_\oplus$, which makes this the lowest mass circumbinary planet system known. The ratio of the separation between the planet and the center-of-mass to the separations of the two stars is $\sim 40$, so unlike most of the circumbinary planets found by Kepler, the planet does not orbit near the stability limit., Comment: 34 pages, with 9 figures. We report the discovery of a microlensing planet OGLE-2012-BLG-0950Lb with the planet/host mass ratio of $q \sim 2 \times 10^{-4}$. A long term distortion detected in both MOA and OGLE light curve can be explained by the microlens parallax due to the Earth's orbital motion around the Sun. Although the finite source effect is not detected, we obtain the lens flux by the high resolution Keck AO observation. Combining the microlens parallax and the lens flux reveal the nature of the lens: a planet with mass of $M_{\rm p} = 35^{+17}_{-9} M_{\oplus}$ is orbiting around a M-dwarf with mass of $M_{\rm host} = 0.56^{+0.12}_{-0.16} M_{\odot}$ with a planet-host projected separation of $r_{\perp} =2.7^{+0.6}_{-0.7}$ AU located at $D_{\rm L} = 3.0^{+0.8}_{-1.1}$ kpc from us. This is the first mass measurement from only microlens parallax and the lens flux without the finite source effect. In the coming space observation-era with $Spitzer$, $K2$, $Euclid$, and $WFIRST$, we expect many such events for which we will not be able to measure any finite source effect. We present a new quantitative technique that determines the times and durations of substorm expansion and recovery phases and possible growth phases based on percentiles of the rate of change of auroral electrojet indices. By being able to prescribe different percentile values, we can determine the onset and duration of substorm phases for smaller or larger variations of the auroral index or indeed any auroral zone ground-based magnetometer data. We apply this technique to the SuperMAG AL (SML) index and compare our expansion phase onset times with previous lists of substorm onsets. We find that more than 50% of events in previous lists occur within 20 min of our identified onsets. We also present a comparison of superposed epoch analyses of SML based on our onsets identified by our technique and existing onset lists and find that the general characteristics of the substorm bay are comparable. By prescribing user-defined thresholds, this automated, quantitative technique represents an improvement over any visual identification of substorm onsets or indeed any fixed threshold method.

Simultaneous observations of microlensing events from multiple locations allow for the breaking of degeneracies between the physical properties of the lensing system, specifically by exploring different regions of the lens plane and by directly measuring the "microlens parallax". We report the discovery of a 30-55$M_J$ brown dwarf orbiting a K dwarf in microlensing event OGLE-2015-BLG-1319. The system is located at a distance of $\sim$5 kpc toward the Galactic bulge. The event was observed by several ground-based groups as well as by $Spitzer$ and $Swift$, allowing the measurement of the physical properties. However, the event is still subject to an 8-fold degeneracy, in particular the well-known close-wide degeneracy, and thus the projected separation between the two lens components is either $\sim$0.25 AU or $\sim$45 AU. This is the first microlensing event observed by $Swift$, with the UVOT camera. We study the region of microlensing parameter space to which $Swift$ is sensitive, finding that while for this event $Swift$ could not measure the microlens parallax with respect to ground-based observations, it can be important for other events. We report the discovery of a planet by the microlensing method, OGLE-2012-BLG-0724Lb. Although the duration of the planetary signal for this event was one of the shortest seen for a planetary event, the anomaly was well covered thanks to high cadence observations taken by the survey groups OGLE and MOA. By analyzing the light curve, this planetary system is found to have a mass ratio $q=(1.58\pm0.15)\times10^{-3}$. By conducting a Bayesian analysis, we estimate that the host star is an M-dwarf star with a mass of $M_{\rm L}=0.29_{-0.16}^{+0.33} \ M_{\odot}$ located at $D_{\rm L}=6.7_{-1.2}^{+1.1} \ {\rm kpc}$ away from the Earth and the companion's mass is $m_{\rm P}=0.47_{-0.26}^{+0.54} \ M_{\rm Jup}$. The projected planet-host separation is $a_{\perp}=1.6_{-0.3}^{+0.4} \ {\rm AU}$. Because the lens-source relative proper motion is relatively high, future high resolution images would detect the lens host star and determine the lens properties uniquely. This system is likely a Saturn-mass exoplanet around an M-dwarf and such systems are commonly detected by gravitational microlensing. This adds an another example of a possible pileup of sub-Jupiters $(0.2 < m_{\rm P}/M_{\rm Jup} < 1)$ in contrast to a lack of Jupiters ($\sim 1 - 2 \ M_{\rm Jup}$) around M-dwarfs, supporting the prediction by core accretion models that Jupiter-mass or more massive planets are unlikely to form around M-dwarfs., Comment: 22 pages, 7 figures, 2 tables, accepted for publication in ApJ

We present the analysis of the planetary microlensing event OGLE-2014-BLG-1760, which shows a strong light curve signal due to the presence of a Jupiter mass-ratio planet. One unusual feature of this event is that the source star is quite blue, with $V-I = 1.48\pm 0.08$. This is marginally consistent with source star in the Galactic bulge, but it could possibly indicate a young source star in the far side of the disk. Assuming a bulge source, we perform a Bayesian analysis assuming a standard Galactic model, and this indicates that the planetary system resides in or near the Galactic bulge at $D_L = 6.9 \pm 1.1 $ kpc. It also indicates a host star mass of $M_* = 0.51 \pm 0.44 M_\odot$, a planet mass of $m_p = 180 \pm 110 M_\oplus$, and a projected star-planet separation of $a_\perp = 1.7\pm 0.3\,$AU. The lens-source relative proper motion is $\mu_{\rm rel} = 6.5\pm 1.1$ mas/yr. The lens (and stellar host star) is predicted to be very faint, so it is most likely that it can detected only when the lens and source stars are partially resolved. Due to the relatively high relative proper motion, the lens and source will be resolved to about $\sim46\,$mas in 6-8 years after the peak magnification. Spitzer microlensing parallax observations of OGLE-2015-BLG-1212 decisively breaks a degeneracy between planetary and binary solutions that is somewhat ambiguous when only ground-based data are considered. Only eight viable models survive out of an initial set of 32 local minima in the parameter space. These models clearly indicate that the lens is a stellar binary system possibly located within the bulge of our Galaxy, ruling out the planetary alternative. $K2$'s Campaign 9 ($K2$C9) will conduct a $\sim$3.7 deg$^{2}$ survey toward the Galactic bulge from 7/April through 1/July of 2016 that will leverage the spatial separation between $K2$ and the Earth to facilitate measurement of the microlens parallax $\pi_{\rm E}$ for $\gtrsim$127 microlensing events. These will include several that are planetary in nature as well as many short-timescale microlensing events, which are potentially indicative of free-floating planets (FFPs). These satellite parallax measurements will in turn allow for the direct measurement of the masses of and distances to the lensing systems. In this white paper we provide an overview of the $K2$C9 space- and ground-based microlensing survey. Specifically, we detail the demographic questions that can be addressed by this program, including the frequency of FFPs and the Galactic distribution of exoplanets, the observational parameters of $K2$C9, and the array of resources dedicated to concurrent observations. Finally, we outline the avenues through which the larger community can become involved, and generally encourage participation in $K2$C9, which constitutes an important pathfinding mission and community exercise in anticipation of $WFIRST$., Comment: 19 pages, 11 figures, 3 tables; submitted to PASP

We present the discovery of a Neptune-mass planet orbiting a 0.8 +- 0.3 M_Sun star in the Galactic bulge. The planet manifested itself during the microlensing event MOA 2011-BLG-028/OGLE-2011-BLG-0203 as a low-mass companion to the lens star. The analysis of the light curve provides the measurement of the mass ratio: (1.2 +- 0.2) x 10^-4, which indicates the mass of the planet to be 12-60 Earth masses. The lensing system is located at 7.3 +- 0.7 kpc away from the Earth near the direction to Baade's Window. The projected separation of the planet, at the time of the microlensing event, was 3.1-5.2 AU. Although the "microlens parallax" effect is not detected in the light curve of this event, preventing the actual mass measurement, the uncertainties of mass and distance estimation are narrowed by the measurement of the source star proper motion on the OGLE-III images spanning eight years, and by the low amount of blended light seen, proving that the host star cannot be too bright and massive. We present the discovery of the first Neptune analog exoplanet or super-Earth with Neptune-like orbit, MOA-2013-BLG-605Lb. This planet has a mass similar to that of Neptune or a super-Earth and it orbits at $9\sim 14$ times the expected position of the snow-line, $a_{\rm snow}$, which is similar to Neptune's separation of $ 11\,a_{\rm snow}$ from the Sun. The planet/host-star mass ratio is $q=(3.6\pm0.7)\times 10^{-4}$ and the projected separation normalized by the Einstein radius is $s=2.39\pm0.05$. There are three degenerate physical solutions and two of these are due to a new type of degeneracy in the microlensing parallax parameters, which we designate "the wide degeneracy". The three models have (i) a Neptune-mass planet with a mass of $M_{\rm p}=21_{-7}^{+6} M_{Earth}$ orbiting a low-mass M-dwarf with a mass of $M_{\rm h}=0.19_{-0.06}^{+0.05} M_\odot$, (ii) a mini-Neptune with $M_{\rm p}= 7.9_{-1.2}^{+1.8} M_{Earth}$ orbiting a brown dwarf host with $M_{\rm h}=0.068_{-0.011}^{+0.019} M_\odot$ and (iii) a super-Earth with $M_{\rm p}= 3.2_{-0.3}^{+0.5} M_{Earth}$ orbiting a low-mass brown dwarf host with $M_{\rm h}=0.025_{-0.004}^{+0.005} M_\odot$ which is slightly favored. The 3-D planet-host separations are 4.6$_{-1.2}^{+4.7}$ AU, 2.1$_{-0.2}^{+1.0}$ AU and 0.94$_{-0.02}^{+0.67}$ AU, which are $8.9_{-1.4}^{+10.5}$, $12_{-1}^{+7}$ or $14_{-1}^{+11}$ times larger than $a_{\rm snow}$ for these models, respectively. The Keck AO observation confirm that the lens is faint. This discovery suggests that low-mass planets with Neptune-like orbit are common. We present a statistical analysis of the first four seasons from a "second-generation" microlensing survey for extrasolar planets, consisting of near-continuous time coverage of 8 deg$^2$ of the Galactic bulge by the OGLE, MOA, and Wise microlensing surveys. During this period, 224 microlensing events were observed by all three groups. Over 12% of the events showed a deviation from single-lens microlensing, and for $\sim$1/3 of those the anomaly is likely caused by a planetary companion. For each of the 224 events we have performed numerical ray-tracing simulations to calculate the detection efficiency of possible companions as a function of companion-to-host mass ratio and separation. Accounting for the detection efficiency, we find that $55^{+34}_{-22}\%$ of microlensed stars host a snowline planet. Moreover, we find that Neptunes-mass planets are $\sim10$ times more common than Jupiter-mass planets. The companion-to-host mass ratio distribution shows a deficit at $q\sim10^{-2}$, separating the distribution into two companion populations, analogous to the stellar-companion and planet populations, seen in radial-velocity surveys around solar-like stars.
