Application of foam has been found to mitigate challenges associated with field-scale CO
2 floods for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) by providing in-depth mobility control. The field pilots that have been run so far have shown varying results, inferred mainly from inter-well tracer studies and production data analysis. A research collaboration has been set up to advance the technology of using foam as a mobility control agent for CO2 EOR, with focus on integrated reservoir modelling to assist technology transfer to a high-cost environment. A heterogeneous carbonate reservoir onshore in west Texas, USA has been selected for the field trial. The reservoir has been waterflooded for more than 50 years, and a significant part of it has been on continuous CO2 injection for the last 5 years. An inverted five-spot pattern, which had rapid CO2 breakthrough in adjacent producers and is currently recycling significant amounts of CO2 , has been selected for the study. The pilot is planned for 2 years with surfactant alternating gas (SAG) injection in the first year, followed by CO2 injection in the next year. A reservoir model was created by integrating available static and dynamic information. Since the measurement of static information and production performance is usually imprecise, even the most carefully constructed models do not exactly represent reality. In this paper, we present a workflow that was used to calibrate the reservoir model to historical data for practical forecasting, which takes into account a wide range of uncertainties caused by the inaccessibility of information. Laboratory studies were performed with reservoir cores, fluids and selected surfactant to obtain the base values of foam model parameters. As an output, distributions for key performance indicators such as cumulative oil production and CO2 retention were generated for the proposed pilot to guide further decision-making. To investigate the importance of benthic vegetation for shallow infaunal assemblages, macroinvertebrates were sampled in Zostera marina meadows and in adjacent bare sand at three sites in the Skagerrak region and one in the Western part of Norway. A total of 3777 individuals were encountered, representing mainly the faunal groups Annelida, Nemertea, Echinodermata, Crustacea and Mollusca. Twice as many individuals were found in the Z. marina meadows compared to the bare sand. Oligochaetes were the most abundant group (29% of total number of individuals), followed by crustaceans (24%), polychaetes (18.5%) and molluscs (16%). Polychaetes showed the highest species number (42), followed by molluscs (30) and crustaceans (26). Multivariate cluster technique showed the highest similarities within sites and thereafter grouping according to the two different habitats; Zostera and sand. No regional differences were evident between the Skagerrak sites and the site in Western Norway, as the site from Western Norway grouped together with one of the Skagerrak sites. The high biodiversity in Zostera marina beds should have implications for the management of such areas.

Sukkertareprosjektet (2005-2008) har vært finansiert av Miljøverndepartementet (MD) og ledet av Statens forurensningstilsyn (SFT) og Direktoratet for naturforvaltning (DN). Prosjektets formål har vært å undersøke omfang og årsaker til bortfall av sukkertare på kysten av Sør-Norge. Kartleggingen av ca 600 lokaliteter viser at sukkertareskogen er sterkt redusert eller mangler helt i fjorder og skjærgårdsområder på store deler av Sørlandet og deler av Vestlandet. På ytre, bølgeeksponert kyst vokser det fortsatt sukkertare (sammen med stortare), slik at bortfallet av sukkertare har skjedd på indre, bølgebeskyttet kyst. I tillegg til redusert geografisk utbredelse, er dybdeutbredelsen for sukkertare også redusert. Bortfallet av sukkertare i dag er anslått til 80 og 40 % i hhv. Skagerrak og Rogaland-Hordaland. Det er stor variasjon i tilstanden på Vestlandet undersøkt opp til Møre og Romsdal. Det er høyst sannsynlig et samspill mellom mange faktorer som er årsak til dagens tilstand. Høy sjøtemperatur i er den enkeltfaktor som kan ha forårsaket en plutselig, regional sukkertaredød i 1997, og slik sett kan klimaendring ha initiert et regimeskifte. Overgjødsling og avrenning fra land gir oppblomstring av trådalger, tilslamming og kystvannformørking, som er sannsynlig årsaker til manglende gjenvekst av sukkertare og vedvarende dårlig tilstand. Tilførsler av næringssalter om sommeren, når de naturlig er lite tilgjengelig (bundet opp i biomasse), forskyver balansen mellom sukkertare og trådalger i favør av trådalger. Stor biomasse av trådalger hemmer taren. Grumsete vann, partikler og humus gir lyssvekning og tilslamming. Verditapet knyttet til tap av naturtype, biologisk mangfold, redusert rekreasjonsverdi og tapt produksjon av fisk og andre ressurser til næringsvirksomhet og tapt CO2-binding, utgjør store beløp. Tiltak som reduserer tilførsler av næringssalter og organisk materiale, sammen med restaureringstiltak for å øke habitatdiversiteten som utplanting av sukkertare i kombinasjon med kunstige rev, mener vi kan snu den negative utviklingen og revitalisere en forringet kystsone. Årsliste 2006 Rapporten beskriver hvilke muligheter som foreligger for å forbedre det marinbiologiske miljøet i Bjørvika-/Bispevikaområdet etter at anleggsarbeider som berører vannet i området er fullført. Hensikten er å få et rikere plante- og dyreliv i området ved transplantasjon av enkelte makroalger og ålegras samt utplassering av kunstige rev spesielt konstruert til å begunstige dyrelivet (bl.a. fisk). Forholdene i området vil ikke bli like bra som i øvrige deler av fjorden, men en klar forbedring av forholdene er mulig, sammenlignet med dagens tilstand. Det forutsettes at tilførsler fra overløp og andre lokale tilførsler blir redusert ved rensetekniske tiltak. Etablering av nytt liv i området vil også kunne ha en selvrensingseffekt i tillegg til de estetiske og rekreasjonsmessige fordelene. For god gjennomføring av arbeidet er det nødvendig med pilotprosjekt for å finne frem til teknikker og gunstige substrater, samt at de enkelte artene og de kunstige revene gir forventet resultat. Målsettingen har vært å sammefatte relevant kunnskap til en beskrivelse av de økologiske samfunn på hard- og bløtbunn langs kyststrekningen Fulehuk (Oslofjorden) - Stad (Vestlandet), med hovedvekt på forhold som kan gi grunnlag for å vurdere eutrofitilstand og utvikling. Det er store forskjeller i de naturlige miljøforholdene for planter og dyr på kyststrekningen. Likeledes er det nødvendig å ha oversikt over naturlige svigninger for å unngå feiltolkninger. For Vestlandet har sammenlikninger med 100 år gamle data gitt en sterk indikasjon på at fjæresamfunnene i de ytre kystområder ikke er eutrofibelastet. På Skagerrakkysten reduserer mangelen på kvantitative data muligheten for å gi en tilsvarende vurdering, men en svakere eutrofieringbelastning kan ikke utelukkes. Med bakgrunn i de naturgitte forhold vil Skagerrakområdet være mer sårbart for påvirkning enn områder lenger vest. Bløtbunnsamfunnene fra Jomfruland til Stad hadde generelt høy diversitet. Ytre dype stasjoner utenfor Portør, Lyngør, Tromøy, Jøssingfjorden og Håsteinfjorden, representerer muligens spesielle deposisjonsområder. Forekomstene av torsk-, lyr- og hvitting-yngel i Skagerrak har vist kraftige svingninger i bestandene siden 20-årene. På 30-tallet ble bestandene av torsk og lyr kraftig redusert, økte igjen i 50 årene, men i midten, av 70-årene inntraff et nytt dramatisk fall for alle tre artene. The results of a search for W boson pair production in pp» collisions at s=1.8 TeV with subsequent decay to dilepton (e,ee, and) channels are presented. One event is observed with an expected background of 0.56 0.13 events with an integrated luminosity of approximately 14 pb-1. Assuming equal strengths for the WWZ and WW gauge boson coupling parameters and, limits on the CP-conserving anomalous coupling constants are -2.6<

We present a search for events consistent with the production and decay of the squarks and gluinos of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) in the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron pp collider. We examined data for events containing large missing transverse energy and three or more jets. We observed no excess of events above the expected yield from standard model processes. For a choice of MSSM parameter values, we set a lower limit at the 95% confidence level on the mass of the gluino of 144 GeV /c2 for all squark masses and a lower limit of 212 GeV /c2 for equal squark and gluino masses. © 1995 The American Physical Society.

We report a measurement of the inclusive muon and b-quark production cross sections in pp» collisions at s=1.8 TeV using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The inclusive muon spectrum extends over the kinematic range | y|6GeV/c is extracted, and agrees with next-to-leading order QCD predictions within the experimental and theoretical uncertainties. © 1995 The American Physical Society.

We present new results on the search for the top quark in pp̄ collisions at s=1.8 TeV with an integrated luminosity of 13.5±1.6 pb-1. We have considered tt̄ production in the standard model using electron and muon dilepton decay channels (tt̄→eμ + jets, ee + jets, and μμ + jets) and single-lepton decay channels (tt̄→e + jets and μ + jets) with and without tagging of b quark jets. From all channels we have nine events with an expected background of 3.8±0.9. If we assume that the excess is due to tt̄ production, and assume a top mass of 180 GeV/ c2, we obtain a cross section of 8.2±5.1 pb. © 1995 The American Physical Society.

Benthosalger er en organismegruppe som kanskje bedre enn andre kan gjenspeile forurensningssituasjonen i grunne kystområder. Med bakgrunn i at dr. philos. Ove Sundene gjennomførte grundige undersøkelser av benthosalge-floraen i Oslofjorden i årene 1947-1952, ble det besluttet å foreta en ny undersøkelse i 1989 på noen av de samme stasjonene som var undersøkt 40 år tidligere. Formålet med undersøkelsen var å se om det kunne spores en forandring i artsantall, artssammensetning og dybdegrenser i løpet av denne tiden. Åtte stasjoner ble valgt ut, fra Klosund ved Drøbak og til Torbjørnskjær og Ferder. Stasjonene ble lagt til områder med god vannutskifting uten lokal avrenning fra land. Innsamling og dybderegistreringer ble foretatt på alle stasjoner ved hjelp av skrapetrekk og dykking. Artsantallet viste en reduksjon, noe som kan skyldes et usedvanlig velutviklet belte av blåskjell i 1989. Nedre grense for benthiske alger var nærmere overflaten enn tidligere. Dette gjaldt særlig på de ytre stasjonene, noe som indikerer redusert lystilgang, trolig som en følge av en eutrofiutvikling med økt partikkelmengde i vannet. Statens forurensningstilsyn (SFT)
