Abstract

Coulomb excitation of the exotic neutron-rich nucleus Ne26 on a Pb208 target was measured at 58 MeV/u in order to search for low-lying E1 strength above the neutron emission threshold. This radioactive beam experiment was carried out at the RIKEN Accelerator Research Facility. Using the invariant mass method in the Ne25+n channel, we observe a sizable amount of E1 strength between 6 and 10 MeV excitation energy. By performing a multipole decomposition of the differential cross section, a reduced dipole transition probability of B(E1)=0.49+-0.16e2fm2 is deduced, corresponding to 4.9+-1.6% of the Thomas-Reiche-Kuhn sum rule. For the first time, the decay pattern of low-lying strength in a neutron-rich nucleus is measured. The extracted decay pattern is not consistent with several mean-field theory descriptions of the pygmy states., Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:0705.1753

Abstract

In this Letter, we report on alpha particle emission through the nuclear break-up in the reaction 40Ca on a 40Ca target at 50A MeV. It is observed that, similarly to nucleons, alpha particles can be emitted to the continuum with very specific angular distribution during the reaction. The alpha particle properties can be understood as resulting from an alpha cluster in the daughter nucleus that is perturbed by the short range nuclear attraction of the collision partner and emitted. A time-dependent theory that describe the alpha particle wave-function evolution is able to reproduce qualitatively the observed angular distribution. This mechanism offers new possibilities to study alpha particle properties in the nuclear medium., Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures

Abstract

The break-up of 11Be was studied at 41AMeV using a secondary beam of 11Be from the GANIL facility on a 48Ti target by measuring correlations between the 10Be core, the emitted neutrons and gamma rays. The nuclear break-up leading to the emission of a neutron at large angle in the laboratory frame is identified with the towing mode through its characteristic n-fragment correlation. The experimental spectra are compared with a model where the time dependent Schrodinger equation (TDSE) is solved for the neutron initially in the 11 Be. A good agreement is found between experiment and theory for the shapes of neutron experimental energies and angular distributions. The spectroscopic factor of the 2s orbital is tentatively extracted to be 0.46+-0.15. The neutron emission from the 1p and 1d orbitals is also studied.

Abstract

Data were also taken on an $^{nat}$Al target to estimate the nuclear contribution. The radioactive beam was produced by fragmentation of a 95 A.MeV $^{40}$Ar beam delivered by the RIKEN Research Facility. The set-up included a NaI gamma-ray array, a charged fragment hodoscope and a neutron wall. Using the invariant mass method in the $^{25}$Ne+n channel, we observe a sizable amount of E1 strength between 6 and 10 MeV. The reconstructed $^{26}$Ne angular distribution confirms its E1 nature. A reduced dipole transition probability of B(E1)=0.49$\pm$0.16 $e^2fm^2$ is deduced. For the first time, the decay pattern of low-lying strength in a neutron-rich nucleus is obtained. The results are discussed in terms of a pygmy resonance centered around 9 MeV.

Abstract

A study of hot Giant Dipole Resonance (GDR) in nuclei of mass A=120~130 in an excitation energy range from 150 to 330 MeV, where the GDR quenching is expected to arise, has been undertaken using the MEDEA multi-detector system. Hot nuclei were populated using complete and incomplete fusion reactions. The characterization of hot system was performed through the study of residue time of flight combined with the analysis of light charged energy spectra detected in coincidence. Gamma-ray energy spectra show an evolution of the GDR main features both in terms of width and multiplicity. Evidences of a saturation of gamma multiplicity appear at high excitation energy at variance with predictions of statistical model calculations. Gamma-ray energy spectra can been reproduced in a phenomenological way introducing in the statistical model a sharp suppression of the gamma-ray emission above E* = 240 MeV. A comparison of experimental data to models describing the GDR disappearance will be presented.

Abstract

NESTER; Differential cross section of the inelastic scattering of a 54 MeV/u 26Ne beam on a lead target has been measured by detecting the de-excitation $\gamma$-rays. Analysis of the first 2+ state angular distribution of the inelastically scattered nuclei shows that the process cannot be considered as a pure Coulomb excitation, and nuclear contribution must be taken into account. The charge deformation deduced, ¯C 2 = 0.392 ± 0.024, corresponds to a B(E2) = 141 ± 18 e2fm4 in agreement with a N = 16 sub-shell closure.

Abstract

Inelastic scattering of Ca-40 on Ca-40 at 50 MeV/nucleon has been measured in coincidence with Light charged particles detected over a large angular domain. The giant resonance region of the inelastic spectrum is shown to be dominated by the isoscalar giant quadrupole resonance. The characteristics of the emitted protons allow us to separate four reaction mechanisms contributing to the high excitation energy region of the inelastic spectrum (E* > 30 MeV): pickup breakup, knockout, inelastic scattering to high-lying target states, and a new mechanism responsible for the emission of fast-moving protons. A sizable direct decay branch towards hole states of K-39 is measured for the giant quadrupole resonance in Ca-40. Evidence is given for the excitation of the two-phonon giant quadrupole resonance, characterized by its direct decay scheme. The energy and width of this two-phonon state are in agreement with a harmonic picture for collective nuclear excitations.

Abstract

Prunus avium is one the most important Noble Hardwood Species in Europe. With its high-value wood, this species is of great economic interest. It can be found in nearly all the french territory except the mediterranean area and above 1000 m. But its genetic resources are seriously endangered by intensive forest management, hybridization with domestic or foreign species, unknown origin of imported seeds plantations. Prunus avium is one of the first species chosen by France for the implementation of the National Genetic Conservation Programme. The French strategy is based on a regional conservation. Two main different ways are used to preserve the genetic basis. On a first hand, an in-situ conservation network is in project in areas where natural stands are big enough to hold a large genetic basis. On a second hand, for regions without large stands, different single trees have been harvested and their progenies sown in nurseries. The plants produced will be planted in pseudo in situ forest conservation stands. Cemagref wish to explore genetic diversity by morphological and biometric measurings, and also biochemical markers. After this work, the different european collections could be compared., Prunus avium est l'une des espèces de feuillus précieux les plus importantes d'Europe. Elle possède un grand intérêt économique de par son bois de grande qualité. On rencontre cette espèce sur presque la totalité du territoire excepté le pourtour méditerranéen ; il devient rare au-dessus de 1000 m. Cependant, ses ressources génétiques sont menacées : exploitation intensive des forêts, hybridation avec des espèces domestiques ou étrangères, graines dont l'origine était mal identifiée, faible nombre de peuplements classés récoltés actuellement. Le merisier est l'une des premières espèces choisies par la France pour son programme de conservation des ressources génétiques. La stratégie française est basée sur une conservation régionale. Indépendamment d'un réseau de conservation in-situ de peuplements existants, actuellement en projet, des mesures conservatoires ont été engagées dans deux régions où le merisier ne forme pas de populations assez grandes et assez diverses pour être conservées in-situ. Les descendances d'arbres disséminés sur un vaste territoire ont été récoltées ; elles seront rassemblées dans des plantations conservatoires forestières. Le Cemagref souhaiterait explorer la diversité génétique du merisier d'une part grâce à l'analyse de mesures morphologiques, biométriques et d'autre part grâce à des marqueurs biochimiques. Des comparaisons avec les collections européennes en cours de réalisation sont envisagées.

Abstract

Process-centred Software Engineering Environments (PSEE) are the most recent generation of environments supporting software development activities. Most of PSEE are based on mechanisms promoting enforcement and automation of process activities. In this kind of mechanisms the process models are prescribed in a detailed and complete way. But the experience shows that supporting processes is more concerned with the flexibility of guidance offered during the process performance than with enforcement of a collection of predefined process models. In this paper, we present a solution to support strategic processes in a PSEE by providing a flexible guidance during process enactment.
