Lifetime measurements with the recoil distance Doppler-shift technique have been performed to determine yrast E2 transition strengths in 178Pt. The experimental data are related to those on neighboring Pt isotopes, especially recent data on 180Pt, and compared to calculations within the interacting boson model and a Hartree-Fock Bogoliubov approach. These models predict prolate deformed ground states in Pt isotopes close to neutron midshell consistent with the experimental findings. Further, evidence was found that the prolate intruder structure observed in neutron-deficient Hg isotopes that is minimum in energy in 182Hg becomes the ground state configuration in 178Pt and neighboring 180Pt with nearly identical transition quadrupole moments. The new data on 178Pt are further discussed in the context of the systematics along the Pt isotopic chain with respect to a possible sharp shape transition towards a weakly deformed or a quasi-vibrational ground state whereas the prolate structure increases in energy in 174,176Pt and becomes an intruder configuration similar to, for example, 180,182Hg. Using the HORUS spectrometer at the Cologne FN-TANDEM accelerator, we performed a γγ coincidence measurement on 88Zr. The reaction used was 89Y(p,2n)88Zr. A particular point of interest was the search for a potential 2+ mixed-symmetric state. In the experiment, we measured the multipole mixing ratios of the decays of the 22+ and the 23+ states and determined the energies of the 23+ and 02+ states precisely. High electronic excitations in radiation of metallic targets with swift heavy ion beams at the coulomb barrier play a dominant role in the damaging processes of some metals. The inelastic thermal spike model was developed to describe tracks in materials and is applied in this paper to some systems beams/targets employed recently in some nuclear physics experiments. Taking into account the experimental conditions and the approved electron-phonon coupling factors, the results of the calculation enable to interpret the observation of the fast deformation of some targets. To study the nuclear structure of neutron-rich titanium isotopes, a lifetime measurement was performed at the Grand Accélérateur National d'Ions Lourds (GANIL) facility in Caen, France. The nucleiwere produced in a multinucleon-transfer reaction by using a 6.76 MeV/u 238U beam. The Advanced Gamma Tracking Array (AGATA) was employed for the γ-ray detection and target-like recoils were identified event-by-event by the large-acceptance variable mode spectrometer (VAMOS++). Preliminary level lifetimes of the (5/2−) to 13/2− states of the yrast band in the neutron-rich nucleus 53Ti were measured for the first time employing the recoil distance Doppler-shift (RDDS) method and the compact plunger for deep inelastic reactions. Lifetimes of excited states of 124Ba were measured by the Recoil Distance Doppler Shift (RDDS) technique. The γ-ray coincidence data were analysed by the Differential Decay Curve method (DDCM). Projectile Coulomb excitation experiments were performed at HIE-ISOLDE at CERN with the radioactive ion beams of 140Nd and 142Sm. Ions with an energy of 4:62 MeV/A were impinging on a 1.45 mg/cm2 thick 208Pb target. The γ-rays depopulating the Coulomb-excited states were recorded by the HPGe-array MINIBALL and scattered particles were detected by a double-sided silicon strip detector. Experimental intensities were used for the determination of electromagnetic transition matrix elements. A preliminary result of the B(M1; 2+3 → 2+1) of 140Nd and an upper limit for the case of 142Sm are revealing the main fragments of the proton-neutron mixed-symmetry 2+1;ms states. The energy spectrum and electromagnetic transition properties of the supermultiplet members with two proton fermions can be constructed using the dynamical Uv(6/12)xUπ(6/4) extended supersymmetry. In order to investigate predictions of the two proton fermion—four neutron boson supermultiplet member 198Hg, an experiment with the HORUS cube γ-ray spectrometer at the Cologne TANDEM accelerator was performed using the 196Pt(α,2n)198Hg reaction. By analyzing γγ coincidence spectra and γγ angular correlations, the required experimental data—level and decay energies, level spins and multipole mixing ratios—could be obtained.
